Ta Prohm is where most of the scenes from the movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, was shot. And like in most major temples, Cambodian children would often hang around to sell souvenirs to tourists.

A boy reading in one corner, who seemed to be minding his own business, caught my interest. I approached him and asked, "What you reading?"

"Temple book of my brother," he replied.

"For school?"

"No, for tourists. I want to be tour guide – big money. Souvenirs, small money only," he answered.

"Brother a tour guide?" I asked.

"Yes, tour guide, big money."

At that point, I decided to leave him with his reading, but not without giving him first a reassuring nod and a smile of admiration at his focus and dedication to learn.

Rain was pouring while we were on our way to Baagas Beach in Cagayan de Oro last year. We didn't really mind the bad weather because were not going there to swim, but to attend a birthday celebration.

After I was done eating, I saw that the skies have cleared outside and so I decided to walk along the beach to appreciate the calmness of the sea. That's when a rainbow appeared.

Let this photo remind us that amidst life's trials, there is always hope for the human spirit's triumph in the end.

Corner Photography

I heard from a friend that there's an emerging trend of photography on using corners as a subject. That was the inspiration for this photo which I took outside Suntec City Mall in Singapore.

However, after searching the internet for other samples of "corner photography", I discovered it's quite difficult to find one because of the generic nature of the terms.

Life is sometimes like that. We encounter things which we thought was simple and easy, only to find out that there's more effort needed to do it than we expected.

And the only way to go is to trust in ourselves and believe that somehow, we'll be able to find our way out of that corner and be able to discover the rest of the room.

Lacson Mansion

A visit to Bacolod is certainly not complete without taking a trip to this place.

It was New Year when we found "Icus The Cat" crying alone on the street as a newborn kitten. We took him in and has stayed in our home ever since.

I was never a cat person, until he became our pet. Now, I think cats are awesome.

This is a chandelier inside the grand ballroom of the Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum in Tacloban City, Leyte. The place really looks unassuming from the outside, but inside you'll surely feel like you've stepped inside another planet, or at least traveled back in time.

The place has so many stories, and Warays who have been inside during the Marcos years all say that what I see now is but a small fraction of its original grandeur. Imagine that.

This is Balbacua, a Southern Philippine dish that I was able to taste for the first time in Bohol. It's a casserole mainly composed of sliced oxtail, beef skin and fat.

Indeed, this original Cebu specialty is a heart and gout attack waiting to happen - but what's the point of living without a little danger, right?

It was my first time in Bohol and what better thing to do on the first day than to go see a Tarsier.

Quiet, furry little creatures - showing almost no reaction to the people taking pictures of them. If they could speak, I think they'd say that they would prefer to be left alone so they could sleep.

A favorite for photographers, this massive sculpture at Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig is called Specific Gravity.

An sculpture made by Reg Yuson back in 2007. He says, "The huge suspended boulder defying the natural order of things, invites the audience to contemplate their relation to the sculpture's surroundings through their affinity with gravity."

Personally, I hear David Archuleta singing "Zero Gravity" whenever I pass by here. :D

Dinagyang Festival 2011

It was my first time to watch the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo. I took so many photos and I couldn't decide which to post. So I randomly picked this one.

San Joaquin Church

The San Joaquin Church is located in the southernmost part of Iloilo. A 19th century church that became a fort when the Moro raiders invaded the southern Panay coast.

Carved on the church's facade, at its pediment, is the Rendicion d'Tetuan - a sculptural relief depicting the Spanish victory over Moorish forces in the Seige of Tetuan.

In 1974, this religious structure with a military motif was declared by the National Historical Institute as a national historical site.
