Do you really want the site found? If the website has great design, great content and can make use of itself to others, then yeah—it needs to be found. If it's a commercial site to bring you business, then having it found is essential.

2. The starting point to getting your site found easily is to make the WHOLE site easy to use for not only your target audience, but also the search engines themselves. This means lots of text content (so the search engines can see your keywords) and not hiding links in graphics or flash animations.

3. Design your site so that large, long pages are split into several sub-pages each with their own specific subject... putting everything on one page is not only a chore for the onlooker to read, but also makes really heavy going for the search engines.

4. Get links coming in! Trusted, relevant links coming into your site are the key to getting yourself noticed by search engines. We're not talking just simple links in directory lists...

5. Try and focus on getting a few of your main target search phrases and keywords embedded in your site's own text. And when asking for incoming links, don't do them like:

" www.lakevyrnwy.com - a nice hotel in Wales"

but aim to make the LINK ITSELF more descriptive than a URL (notice the above 'wrong' example and the below 'good' example go to the same place...)

A good example for that site would be:

"For a unique experience, visit Lake Vyrnwy Hotel's site— a premier country hotel in Wales—with lots of activities and superb cuisine"

Notice that 'hotel in Wales' is the link, but the URL is still the same, but this time, the link CONTAINS relevant keywords ('hotel' and 'Wales'). This is a very important rule to follow.

For more advice and tips, visit Pixelmakers web design, Shropshire
