I have just finished reading all of the Harry Potter Books, and I wanted to say what i love about them.

My favourite characters from Harry Potter are:

Harry Potter because he is brave

Draco Malfoy because he has cool hair.

Cho Chang because she is pretty.

Fred and George Weasely because they are cheeky.

Ronald Weasley because he is silly

Professor Lupin because he is weird.

My favourite parts in the books are when Fred pretends to be George in the first book and the tri-wizard tournament in the fourth book.

The class I would like to take the most is the defence against the dark arts because it has a new professor every year.

My least favourite professor is Professor Snape because he is mean, and he doesn't like Harry's potions.

weekend time!

hey guys... are you as glad as me it's the weekend?? touch wood, everyone here seems to have recovered from the nasty bug we've had.

i found my mojo yesterday, got caught up on emails, made some new jewellery, photographed it, listed it, cleaned the house and sorted a few things out :) it feels good to be back on track... now if only the sun would come out, life would be perfect ;)

there's couple of things i wanted to share - first off, i'm hosting a giveaway over at why girls are weird - you can win $25 store credit to my etsy shop.

second, the beautiful victoria did a feature on me yesterday - and she drew this cute little picture of me - i love it!!

lastly, my shop had a mini facelift and listed some new items - many are one of a kind - so if you see something you like grab it before it's gone!!

what do you have planned for you weekend?? we're having a curry night tonight - hoping the spices warm us up ;) i have a few valentine-y things to do tomorrow - including putting the finishing touches to my valentines giveaway {so far there are 14 prizes!!}

what makes you happiest?

The sensation of having complete freedom and being, doing, experiencing exactly what you want to in that moment. Feeling like you're right where you're suppose to be.

do you have a ‘happy place’?

I know this is going to sound cheesy and some of you may want to throw up after this, but my happy place is this moment that happens just about every night in my home. My husband and I are curled up in bed, warm, under the blankets and the certain charming way he wraps his arms around me makes me feel like I am in the safest place in the world. That, hands down, is my happy place. >inserting puking noises here<

do you have a favourite happy song?

My favorite happy song is by Melissa Ethridge, I'm the only one. I can't even recall at the moment what the lyrics are exactly, but the combination of rockin' music and passion in Melissa's voice when she sings that - it wakes up every cell in my body.

what gets you past a bad day?

The idea of a better tomorrow. And knowing that my actions and choices right now are what help create it. Including how kind I am to myself.

what makes you happiest?

Waking up in the morning after a really great sleep, to the smell of fresh bread from the bread-maker with my best friend (husband) at my side!
Also, currently feeling Pip kick and wiggle around makes me smile.

do you have a ‘happy place’?

I have a few:
My destination happy place is definitely Newfoundland.
Also, anytime I am outdoors, in the forest walking or sitting by a lake I feel calm and happy.
My last happy place is at home: sitting in front of my sewing machine or baking in the kitchen. Activities I do to help me relax when I feel stressed.

do you have a favourite happy song?

I find music in general helps to keep my spirits high. As long as it has a good beat, some positive lyric, or a really catchy tune it is sure to keep me smiling :)

what gets you past a bad day?

Knowing that tomorrow is a whole new day! Happy feelings are much stronger than sad feelings so I know that eventually the negativity will float away. Also a really good cuddle from my hubby or my pup puts me in a much better place.

Tell us a little about you and your business.

My name is Amanda, and my shop/blog is Dragonflight Dreams. I'm a freelance graphic designer by day and a hobbyist screenprinter/crafter by night - or really whenever I can find the spare time. My current home is in Round Rock, Texas (think northern suburb of Austin) with my boyfriend and our puppy. I've been called a 'cool geek,' which I guess just means that my extreme geekiness isn't immediately apparent and I'm not completely socially awkward. I love books and movies and art, and dragons, and have a pretty ferocious sweet tooth. My shop sells screenprinted goods (mostly shirts and tote bags at the moment) with my own unique designs. Everything is printed by hand. My blog started as just a way to chronicle my adventures in screenprinting and running a shop, but it's grown to be more of a general 'this is my life' blog, which can include anything from outfit posts to recipes to cute puppy pictures, along with the screenprinting stuff.

Where did the name ‘Dragonflight Dreams’ come from?

As anyone who knows me can attest, I have a bit of a thing for dragons (<---- understatement) and a thing for the idea of flying and a habit of dreaming big. The name Dragonflight Dreams is a marriage of all three. Since the designs I'll be putting out for the shop portion will also tend to be of a whimsical and/or fantastical nature, it seemed doubly fitting.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Oh man. Um, not anywhere terribly different from where I am now, I don't think. I'll likely still be living here in Texas (I do love it here), and still freelancing and screenprinting. I hope my shop will have grown quite a bit by that time, as well as the blog. Ideally, Ian & I will have gotten hitched and started on that whole family thing by then. I'll have learned to sew by then (just bought my first machine and have my first lesson later this month), so I'd like to be seeing the fruits of that labor by then.

Who or what is your inspiration?

This has always been a hard question for me. For the designs I create, I guess the answer that makes the most sense is: stories. Whether it's mythology or more modern fiction or a movie or just a story I invent in my head, every idea comes from some sort of story.

Asides from work, what else keeps you busy?

My other work, haha. Aside from running the Dragonflight Dreams blog and shop, I'm also a full-time freelance graphic designer (my 'real' job). So that takes a good chunk of time. Aside from that, I'm part of a writers group, like to go out and do things with friends, watch a lot of movies and cook and play video games with my boyfriend, read a lot of books, romp around with our puppy, travel (when time & money allow), hiking, Pilates, etc.

Do you have any advice for any one thinking of setting up their own business?

Dragonflight Dreams is still less than a year old, so this bit of advice comes more from my 6 years of freelancing: don't undersell yourself. Make sure you're charging enough to cover your time, skills, and effort (and base materials, if applicable). It can be tempting to put a lower price than your competitors, just to garner the cheapskate buyers looking for lowest price, but in the long run that is not the kind of client or customer that will keep your business afloat. Do your research and see what other businesses similar to you are charging, for sure, just to make sure you're in the ballpark, but ultimately you need to charge an amount that is fair to you.

late last night, i went to quickly check something on blogger - i logged in to find that my blog wasn't listed on my dashboard, and when i typed in the url i saw this:

I FREAKED OUT!!!!

my entire blog had gone.. it was nowhere to be found. i contacted blogger, scoured the forums for any clues and ranted on twitter. freaked even more when i realised my backup was months out of date.

i started to envisen a life without this blog - could i even contemplate starting from scratch?? after two whole hours going round in circles, checking anything i could think of, i clicked my blog link from my google account page and it was BACK!!! just like that. i was so happy i could of cried {ok, i might have!}

the relief was riciculous - so pleased to have this little corner of the internet back - it made me realise how important it is to me.

also - it tught me the vital lesson of backing up your blog REGUARLY!

i'm happy i'm still hee - life without you guys is unimaginable ;)

etsy love - tsubasafan

Hey there! Tell us a little about yourself and your shop.

The first thing that everyone notices is the name. Strange I know, but when I signed up for etsy nearly two years ago, I had never thought I would open up a shop. It’s just a username I’ve used for about five years or so now and is from a book series I love, plus it has the bonus of meaning ‘wings’ in Japanese. I’m a bit of a nerd in my off time.

My shop is dedicated to whatever catches my eye when I’m at home or walking around campus working on my next big project. The style of the shop has changed here and there as you can see as I become better acquainted with my tools and objects.

Currently I’m working on my bachelor degree in art and so far it’s going great since aside from jewelry I’ve been working on my digital work. Though, when you live in Kentucky it takes awhile to get home on the weekends. I have eleven pets, a husky named Star, a cat named Bunny, among others such as Claude, Creampuff, and Lady. I’m a bit of an oddball.

What is your inspiration?

You name it and I’ll probably get a few ideas from it. I love old movies, cartoons, history, and fairytales and well they kind of make a hodge podge for me to draw ideas for pieces from. Also when I’m wandering around campus, I might see a cloud or a building just so and think of color schemes or something I can use that for.

Have you always wanted to have a creative career?

I think so, from as far back as I can remember, and you can see this on the walls of my closet back home, I’ve wanted to draw and create. Though for a time I was really big into dinosaurs and wanted to be a paleontologist, but I never agreed with hot weather and math. Now though, I’m working on figuring out and simplifying my style, as I love all kinds and experiment with all sorts of things and going to school is helping me with that.

Describe a typical day in your life

Wake up, check my email, tumblr, and twitter. Make a note if I sold anything and then get ready for classes. I walk half way across campus, bundled up in my coat and spend, depending on what day it is, my afternoon or mornings working on art projects. When I come home I do a little browsing on the web some more and do some reading which in turn gets the ideas flowing for my next piece.

What are you currently obsessed with?

Oh, there’s so much I obsess over on a regular basis. I’m really, really fond of the manga series One Piece right now as well as working on my etsy teams, and working on a werewolf short story for a writing contest. Did I mention I was a nerd?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In five years? Well I would hope I’d be done with school in a place where a few of my cats and at least one of my dogs could stay with me, a career, and hopefully a thriving etsy store. I’ve also been considering opening another store that would cater to either my artwork or maybe even starting an etsy sweet shop so maybe in the future that could be a possibility too.

sick days

happy monday! i hope you've all had a better weekend than i did. saturday night i started feeling a little queasy, by the time i went to bed that had turned into full blown sickness that kept me awake all night. miss baya was a little sick too. by sunday morning kiki had come down with it too. yesterday was a pj day - spent snuggled on the sofa. thanlkfully it didn't hit the kiddos to hard but i felt like i was dying. seriously. i can't remember when i last felt that sick. the kiddos were good to me - lola made sure everyone was fed and they let me sleep on and off on the sofa all day ♥♥♥♥

a good nights sleep last night seems to have helped. the sickness has gone and i've managed to drink some water and eat a little toast. but i am exhausted! even the simpliest task is beyond me today. i think it's another lazy day for me.

i'm a little behind on bloggy stuff/emails and the like - if you're waiting to hear from me, i'll be on it soon i promise! for now - it's back to the sofa to watch some moomins :)

braving the cold out on the deck this morning!

happy weekend friends! it's mighty cold here - no snow though - just lots of rain! apart from taking miss lola to her history club this morning, it's been a staying home kinda day. i've gotten caught up on my housework and listened to some good tunes. the kiddos made themselves an indoors picnic and played lots of made up games - it's been a surprisingly good day! sometimes it's the quiet days that turn out to fill your heart with love ♥♥♥

i think we'll make some homemade pizzas for dinner - pizza and a movie sound like the perfect end to the day.

Self Love Revolution

i stumbled across this yesterday on {the new to me} a is for ampersand. amy is hosting a month of self love posts on her blog, you can go HERE to read about it, and HERE to sign the 'self love declaration of independnce'.

her aim is to encourage us to embrace who we are and to fight our insecurities. amy has a month of positivity planned - i'm looking forward to reading it all. so many women live with self hatred and a negative body image. i spent most of my teen years and early twenties fighting eating disorders. while i'm in recovery i wouldn't say i am cured - there are still days when i seriously dislike myself. it's time to take a stand and refuse to be beaten down by society's view of what we 'should' look like. i don't want my three girls growing up and feeling as inadequate as i did.

what makes you happiest?

Well lots of things make me happy - coffee, pretty nail polish, my boyfriend's hugs, blogging, good books, pizza, candy... I could go on and on. I guess what makes me happiest are the little things in life.

do you have a ‘happy place’?

My apartment has become my happy place. I'm very quickly decorating it so that it is all mine and it's a place that I can get away from all the pressures that every day life brings.

do you have a favourite happy song?

Oh gosh, it changes all the time. Pretty much anything upbeat makes me happy. Oddly, whenever I'm asked this question I think of the song Smile by Vitamin C because it's what got me through my first week of high school - haha, that was over 10 years ago!

what gets you past a bad day?

My dog Monte. It doesn't matter how bad my day is, when I come home and he's jumping all over me and SO happy to see me I just cannot be upset. The unconditional love is just awesome for getting me past a bad day.

The little things in life, like singing really loud to a favourite song, getting something pretty in the post or laughing with friends and family.

The moors. Northern England has so many forests, streams,lakes and hills. You can't not be happy there.

pinch, punch, first of the month

can you believe it's february?? the month has started here with beautiful sunny skies - albeit it freezing cold too!! i'm looking forward to all that february has to offer - i have some great things planned for the blog as well as some fun IRL stuff too

we're still a house full of sick people - my cold seems to be lingering and the kiddos all have it too. there hasn't been much sleep to be had here for the past few nights. to top it all off, miss baya had an accident with a pan of hot water on monday. thankfully she's not badly burnt, i managed to get her out of the way, so only a little splashed back onto her leg rather than pouring all over her. still, she has quite the burn on her leg, poor baby.

i finally got around to tackling a couple of projects on my to-do-list yesterday - a glitter lampshade for the girls room {i saw the idea here} and the doily lampshade that has been on my list for almost a year :O here's a couple of pics - I'll take a better one of the doily lamp when it's dry and hung up!

Hello all, I'm Elisabeth of Manic Mrs. Stone and I thought it'd be fun to share some of my life with you. I am a very goal-oriented person and am constantly making lists and checking them off. Well, one of the things on my list of things to do in 2012 was to connect to a crystal. I've never done this before but have been studying and felt it was the right time, especially in preparing for big changes in my life (a new home, a second baby, etc). So here is how I did it!

I went to my favorite alternative bookstore and checked out the crystal table. Anything that seemed to speak to me, I immediately picked up. If it then felt right to me, I got it. I picked out 4 crystals, giving one (the tiger's eye) to my daughter because she fell so in love with it. My two favorites below are the green adventurine and the red jade.

I then needed to cleanse the crystals. There are many techniques for cleansing a crystal but the way I chose to was running them under water, using visualization, and then smudging them. Pictured below is the smudging process. You can see that my daughter had fun helping me with it. You can also see an adorable little dreamcatcher pouch that I fixed up as a way to carry my crystals close to me at all times.

And as of now, I've become seriously connected to my adventurine crystal. I am always grabbing for it and feeling the need to hold it close to me. I decided to look up what it's specific purposes and meanings were (remember I only bought it because I felt a connection to it at the store). It turns out that adventurine is a very healing and soothing stone that is quite known for blocking negative energies. So it totally makes sense to me why I'm really attached to it right now. I'm in the process of really taking charge of things in my life and learning to express myself openly - often resulting in critisism and negative energy from family members. I am also preparing for a really big event in my life (a natural VBAC) and have been trying very hard to focus my positive energy and thoughts on it. It really seems that adventurine is perfect for me at this exact moment and I'm so glad I went with my intuition in choosing a crystal to connect to.

Crossing that off my 2012 list!

letterbox love

i love getting snail mail...nothing beats a handwritten letter dropping into my letterbox to make my heart happy. in these days of texts, emails and im's it's easy to forget about writing real letters... i've been penpalling since i was around 7 or 8 and it's still as exciting to get a handwritten letter now as it was then! if you fancy getting some snail mail or you want to send me some please email me - i need more!!!

also, my kiddos are keen to have some penpals too. they love getting mail and would love some other kiddos to write to. lola is 8, kiki is 5 and baya is 2 - if you have kiddos who'd love a penpal {or three} i know my kids would be stoked! drop me an email and we can swap deets :)

sleepover fun

miss lola is having some of her friends round tonight for a slumber party. she's been getting things ready all day, making cakes and organising some craft activities for them all to do! my mr is escaping for the evening - the thought of 7 little girls is too much for him ha!

i'm still feeling a bit groggy from this cold - we've been taking it easy(ish) the past couple of days, hopefully it'll pass soon - baya hasn't let me sleep much the last couple of nights and i'm a very tired mama.

i'm planning on watching a movie this evening, tucked up in bed while the kiddos have fun downstairs. i've some work i ought to be doing, but my head isn't switched on so it'll have to wait ;)

diy - valentine's love notes

the girls wanted to make some cute little notes to give to some of their friends for valentines - we settled on these cute little heart note/envelopes - easy to make yet they look super cute!

i made this heart template that we printed out on cardstock {you can click on the image below to download the pdf} you could of course just use some pretty paper and cut a heart shape out :)

when you have your heart cut out, on the blank side you can write your love letter/ draw a picture -whatever takes your fancy

then, to fold it into an envelope, first you need to fold both sides in to the middle - like below

then fold the top of the heart down as below

finally, turn the heart around and fold the point of the heart down and seal with a sticker - done!

i think these would be perfect to sneak into wallets/lunchboxes/coat pockets too!

meal planning

one of my goals for 2012 was to clean up my diet. lack of time and lack of money had led me to eating to much junk and processed foods. way back when, i used to meal plan. not only did it allow me to budget better, but also plan healthy meals and save time - as knowing in advance what we were going to be eating that day meant no last minute panics over what to cook for dinner.

it also encouraged me to try out new recipes and foods that were in season. and it meant the mr didn't have for lunch what i was planning on making for dinner.

so, this week i finally got around to starting meal planning again. and of course - a pretty meal planning sheet is far better than a scrap of paper right?! i made this cutie - i'm planning on putting one in a pretty frame, and using a wipe-off marker so i can use it over and over.

i tend to only plan out our evening meals, but there's space on the sheet for breakfasts and lunches too if you wanted. a typical weeks evening meals might look something like this:

mon: spaghetti & veggie meatballs

tues: hassleback potatoes & veggie chili

weds: stir fry veggies & rice

thurs: home made pizza & wedges

fri: veggie pot pies & salad or veg

sat: pasta bake with garlic bread
sun: veggie roast, with roast potatoes, veggies, gravy & yorkshire puddings

i'm in the middle of transfering all my recipes from the scraps of paper to these cute recipe cards {again, click on the image to download a full size, printable size}

My name is BeaG, I was born in the Netherlands in 1964, but now live in a lovely village near Gent, Belgium. I started my Etsy shop back in mid 2006.

What is your inspiration?

I never have to look for inspiration, because as long as I can remember my head has been filled with all kinds of creative ideas.

If I look at something, anything, my imagination starts improving it or making things out of it.

Have you always wanted to have a creative career?

I have always been creative in many ways, but never considered a creative career, until chronic health issues forced me to give up my previous career and stay at home.

Describe a typical day in your life

I design, I create, I love, I think, I read, I write, I suffer, I rest, I challenge, I help, I share, I care.

What are you currently obsessed with?

Obsession isn’t my style, but I am passionate about creating. Even when in bad health, I keep creating inside my head. It gets me through the bad times.

My second obsession is collecting crafting materials (I love to recycle/upcycle).

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully I will still be able to design, create, share and sell my creations.

If so, I will probably have the same life I’m leading now, and that would be perfectly fine with me, since I am happy!

a little bit rusty

as the Mr was outta town last night, i spent my night watching 'call the midwife' on the iplayer and doing a little sketching. it's been way too long since i've done any drawing, and I was a little rusty, but still it was quite fun! they turned out better than i hoped - i'm not the best drawer in the world, but i'm fairly pleased with them! i always seem to have difficulty drawing men.... not so sure bout that last one of my Mr. still, an evening of creativity did wonders for my soul ♥♥♥

it's a happy monday here - we have the girls auntie visiting, so we've been catching up, playing games and listening to some music. the kiddos and i all love the beatles - we visited the beatles museum in liverpool last year, nothing makes me happier than listening to my two year old singing "will you still love me, when i'm 64" :)

we had a fun, chilled weekend and we're all set up for the week. i'm hoping to get a few new pieces listed in the shop this week, and there's still a couple of days left to enter the giveaway. I also have one or two ad spaces left if you want to jump on board for february - it's going to be a fun month!
