sleepover fun

miss lola is having some of her friends round tonight for a slumber party. she's been getting things ready all day, making cakes and organising some craft activities for them all to do! my mr is escaping for the evening - the thought of 7 little girls is too much for him ha!

i'm still feeling a bit groggy from this cold - we've been taking it easy(ish) the past couple of days, hopefully it'll pass soon - baya hasn't let me sleep much the last couple of nights and i'm a very tired mama.

i'm planning on watching a movie this evening, tucked up in bed while the kiddos have fun downstairs. i've some work i ought to be doing, but my head isn't switched on so it'll have to wait ;)

diy - valentine's love notes

the girls wanted to make some cute little notes to give to some of their friends for valentines - we settled on these cute little heart note/envelopes - easy to make yet they look super cute!

i made this heart template that we printed out on cardstock {you can click on the image below to download the pdf} you could of course just use some pretty paper and cut a heart shape out :)

when you have your heart cut out, on the blank side you can write your love letter/ draw a picture -whatever takes your fancy

then, to fold it into an envelope, first you need to fold both sides in to the middle - like below

then fold the top of the heart down as below

finally, turn the heart around and fold the point of the heart down and seal with a sticker - done!

i think these would be perfect to sneak into wallets/lunchboxes/coat pockets too!

meal planning

one of my goals for 2012 was to clean up my diet. lack of time and lack of money had led me to eating to much junk and processed foods. way back when, i used to meal plan. not only did it allow me to budget better, but also plan healthy meals and save time - as knowing in advance what we were going to be eating that day meant no last minute panics over what to cook for dinner.

it also encouraged me to try out new recipes and foods that were in season. and it meant the mr didn't have for lunch what i was planning on making for dinner.

so, this week i finally got around to starting meal planning again. and of course - a pretty meal planning sheet is far better than a scrap of paper right?! i made this cutie - i'm planning on putting one in a pretty frame, and using a wipe-off marker so i can use it over and over.

i tend to only plan out our evening meals, but there's space on the sheet for breakfasts and lunches too if you wanted. a typical weeks evening meals might look something like this:

mon: spaghetti & veggie meatballs

tues: hassleback potatoes & veggie chili

weds: stir fry veggies & rice

thurs: home made pizza & wedges

fri: veggie pot pies & salad or veg

sat: pasta bake with garlic bread
sun: veggie roast, with roast potatoes, veggies, gravy & yorkshire puddings

i'm in the middle of transfering all my recipes from the scraps of paper to these cute recipe cards {again, click on the image to download a full size, printable size}

My name is BeaG, I was born in the Netherlands in 1964, but now live in a lovely village near Gent, Belgium. I started my Etsy shop back in mid 2006.

What is your inspiration?

I never have to look for inspiration, because as long as I can remember my head has been filled with all kinds of creative ideas.

If I look at something, anything, my imagination starts improving it or making things out of it.

Have you always wanted to have a creative career?

I have always been creative in many ways, but never considered a creative career, until chronic health issues forced me to give up my previous career and stay at home.

Describe a typical day in your life

I design, I create, I love, I think, I read, I write, I suffer, I rest, I challenge, I help, I share, I care.

What are you currently obsessed with?

Obsession isn’t my style, but I am passionate about creating. Even when in bad health, I keep creating inside my head. It gets me through the bad times.

My second obsession is collecting crafting materials (I love to recycle/upcycle).

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully I will still be able to design, create, share and sell my creations.

If so, I will probably have the same life I’m leading now, and that would be perfectly fine with me, since I am happy!

a little bit rusty

as the Mr was outta town last night, i spent my night watching 'call the midwife' on the iplayer and doing a little sketching. it's been way too long since i've done any drawing, and I was a little rusty, but still it was quite fun! they turned out better than i hoped - i'm not the best drawer in the world, but i'm fairly pleased with them! i always seem to have difficulty drawing men.... not so sure bout that last one of my Mr. still, an evening of creativity did wonders for my soul ♥♥♥

it's a happy monday here - we have the girls auntie visiting, so we've been catching up, playing games and listening to some music. the kiddos and i all love the beatles - we visited the beatles museum in liverpool last year, nothing makes me happier than listening to my two year old singing "will you still love me, when i'm 64" :)

we had a fun, chilled weekend and we're all set up for the week. i'm hoping to get a few new pieces listed in the shop this week, and there's still a couple of days left to enter the giveaway. diy - lampshade makeover

in my new year decluttering, i moved an old lamp into the living room, and i realised that i wasn't loving the lampshade anymore. it was ok - not broken or stained, but it just didn't 'fit' with the feel of the room. i figured it would be easy enough to recover, rather than buying a new one. i used some pretty fabric from my stash, some vintage trim and my trusty old glue gun, and in lesst than 10 mintues my lamp was as good as new!

first step is to cut a rectangle of fabric, a couple of inches wider than your shade, and long enough to wrap around with an inch overlap

next, i glued down one of the shorter edges, making sure it was realatively straight.

i wrapped the fabric aroudn the shade, keeping it fairly taut, and then glued it down when i got back around to the start, and fixed down the over lap too.

the next step is to tuck and glue the excess around the rims of the shade, you may need to cut a little to fit around the supports.

once that's done you can add any trimming you like :)

i was pretty happy with how it turned out!!

i've been thinking and thinking over the past cdouple of weeks, but i hadn't come up with my word for 2012. then, last night i was reading krsyten's blog - why girls are weird and saw the accent vlog she'd posted. when this was going around last year, i wanted to play along but chickened out.i decided there and then to record my own, that this was something i had to do - fight the fear.

and then it hit me - my word for the year is

BRAVE

what i wore: slipper day

the sun is deceptive in these photos - it looks like a lovely day but it was bloody fah-ree-zing!!! by the time i went inside my fingers were numb :/ i haven't taken outfit photos for ages, thought it was time and i needed to show off my hair too ;) in the end i chickened out of dying it black - it's near on impossible to get out if i didn't like it, so after bleaching my roots and putting a slightly darker red dye on, i trimmed my fringe back in and felt much better! i think my resolution for this year is to keep on top of the dyeing - faded hair and inch long roots made you feel terrible!

i'm wearing one of the new necklaces available in my shop - it's such a cutie {and yes, i went out in my slippers - they're soooo toasty warm!}

Hello lovelies, I'm Ruby from Dotty Delightful, and I am honoured to do a guest post on here. I attend and organise craft fairs in and around Blackpool, UK. I have some hints and tips on participating in a craft fair.

There are loads of ways to set up your stall, you will get into the groove of how you like things and its always worth looking around for ideas to help you have a great display.

A couple of important things which I think are worth knowing are:

I always take a table cover, this can be a double duvet cover (perfect size), a tablecloth, a sheet etc, make sure its ironed and folded in your bag so it looks crisp and fresh.

A cushion for your bottom, I have been caught out lots of time with all day on a hard chair - not very good for the posterior!

Change - make sure you take some, sounds obvious but it is important, especially if you have odd prices IE 99p

A price list of your items, I stick this to the spare chair so I can see how much things are without having to lean over the stall

A drink and a snack, unless you plan to buy one at the fair (unless your at my fairs when you will get complementary teas and coffee for free!)

Cards/ leaflets with your name on and a contact number and website if you have one, so many order come after the fair from people who take your details.

Carrier bags, even though we all want to cut down on plastic bags some people will want a bag, I love paper bags with things stamped on them or if you're handy with the sewing machine then some bags whipped up on that and maybe charge 50p or something to cover costs.

A calculator - in the hope someone will want to buy loads!

A couple of tricks and tips:

I always price things on a round number or to the nearest 50p, this way it is easier for me and my small useless maths brain to add up and not look like a fool!

If you are going to be brave and use 99's then a psychological tip is someone will be more willing to pay £9.99 than £10.00, they think they are getting a bargain and your only losing out on a penny.

Try and add height to your table, if its eye level its better, make good use of your table space by using bookshelves, rails etc.

I hope these tips have helped you in some way, also make sure you write a list of the things you need to take so you can cross them off as you pack, its almost certain if you don't you will forget something. It also handy to take safety pins, a few pegs and drawing pins to attach things to your stall. Make friends with other stall holders who can keep you in the loop of up coming fairs.

Most of all don't panic, enjoy yourself as it will go so fast. Happy crafting x

winter has finally hit over the weekend - it's been FAH-REE-ZING here!! we were planning on heading out to a home ed group this morning, but nobody woke up very early, and there was a heavy frost overnight, so we've opted to stay home and do some crafting instead!! i finally got around to dyeing my hair yesterday, it was so faded and my roots were embarrassing! i toyed with the idea of going black, but in the end i stuck with the red.

i think this mama got outta the wrong side of bed this morning. i'm having one of those days. i'm short tempered and cranky, tired and snappy.

i feel like a big blob today, i must of tried a million outfits on, but everything just felt wrong. my hairs a mess of roots and i could quite happily hide under my duvet :/

i'm trying to keep smiling.... i know its just that i'm tired and need to catch up on some sleeps. we have family visiting this afternoon - so i'm pretty sure that'll cheer me up! and tomorrow i'm gonna dye my hair so the roots will be gone!

how to: upcycled cushion covers

wandering around the shops the other day, getting annoyed at how expensive all the super cute cushion covers i was drooling over were, i suddenly realised that my giant stash of thrifted, vintage pillowcases were just crying out to be upcycled into cushion covers.

i've made cushion covers before, and they're pretty straightfoward - but using pillowcases mean most of the work is done for you!! plus you can thrift pillowcases for pennies if you don't have any on hand. you could jazz them up with lace, doilies etc - i might add some to mine, but i was on a time limit when i was making these.

pick out some pretty pillowcases

turn the pillowcase inside out, lay the pillowform on top {making sure it's at the open end of the pillowcase} and draw a line where you'll need to sew

sew across the line you marked on each of your pillowcases

cut off the shut end of the pillowcase, a couple of mm away from your sewn line

turn the right way out, insert your pillowform, throw on the sofa and enjoy!!

sunshine and birdsong

too many late nights are making this mama into a cranky one. i think i need to get to bed earlier than 1am for a few days! after the kiddos had done their homeschool this morning we took a walk down to the river. the sun was shining, warming my back and the birds were chirping. the kiddos had fun running around, picking flowers and throwing stones into the water. fresh air and sunshine made me feel less zombie like.

time for lunch now - we're having noodles in satay sauce, then miss lola has book group and brownies this evening

I'm Sara, I'm 26 years old and I live in a little town near Rome,Italy.

I love to make polymer clay jewelry and little home decorations, now are my favorite hobbies, but I love also to draw and paint! I started my jewelry hobby seven years ago, but recently I started to outline a my own style and decided to start my adventure on Etsy. Then I opened my Etsy shop and called it FlowerLand. With my works I'd like to suggest an ideal, ethereal, fantastic,intimate world rich of colors and happiness.

What is your inspiration?

My major inspiration is the Nature and its beauty. Usually I want to convey a feeling and I choose combinations of colors and shapes that do it right! I can find an idea in a advertisment, in a magazine page, in a documentary, in a hight fashion dress, reading a book... When I can I project my works lying down on a lawn, is so relaxing!! I love to sketch my ideas on the first sheet I find and than place them into a sketchbook (otherwise I'll lose it, of course!), may happen that an old sketch become a new inspiration!

Have you always wanted to have a creative career?

Yes! I love drawing since I was a children. I was a very shy girl and throught drawing and colors I could express myself. In school, art teacher was always my favorite! At age 14 I enrolled at an institut of art where I learned a bit of Industrial Design. I wanted to become a illustrator or a cartoonist or a designer...After hight schools I took a “fashion and costume” degree. Now I'd like to work in the fashion world!

Describe a typical day in your life

I have so strange hours in my days...

I wake up late, at 12 pm because I love working at night when no one can bother me!

After waking up I have a brunch and do houseworks, then check e-mails and dedicate my time to my Etsy shop or photographing my last works. At 17-17,30 pm I go to shopping. At 19,30pm I cook dinner and go to the swimming pool, for aquagym lessons. At 21pm I have dinner. I dedicate the rest of the time to my jewelry, or to my Etsy shop , my blog and searching for interesting things on the web, or I go out with my boyfriend!. At 2-2,30 pm I go to sleep.

What are you currently obsessed with?

I'm obsessed with everything about my hobbies and my Etsy shop. When I have a new idea could happen that I don't sleep for thinking about. Each time I say to myself “Sara, please, keep calm and resting your brain!”But I can not do without!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I hope I'll have a my family and that my hobby will becomes a job!

I went from being single, never married and no kids to a full-time girlfriend and step-mom! I love zombies, Alice in Wonderland, baking, jewelry making and re purposing vintage finds.

my goal for 2012 is to take a family vacation to the beach - my step-kids have never been! And to work on my first jewelry line to offer up in my shop. Oh, and to get my first tattoo!
