what i wore - doily diy

eeep! i found this half post hiding in my drafts!! a few weeks back i added some cute doily pockets to an old cardigan, and thought it'd be fun to share. it's a great idea for jazzing up an old cardigan. i just hand sewed the doilies on and voila! done :) i've had a tonne of compliments - fighting the urge now to do it to every cardigan i own ha!

it's going to be a noisy last day of february here - it's Miss Kiki's half birthday. i don't know when we started celebrating half birthdays - mainly it's just a good excuse to bake a cake!!

it's kinda our weekend today & tomorrow as G has his two days off. lola and her dad are off to the cinema later to watch star wars 3d - i think the other two and i will do some crafting while they are out!

ten years

ten years ago today this man walked into my life, on the day i very nearly left this world. he was there at the worst, when no one else was. he gave me a reason to live when i had none. he made me smile. he made me laugh. he made me live.

ten years on and we've had good times and some bad. but we're still here, together, with three beautiful kiddos and a fantastic life to show for it.

he's my world and i would be lost without him

it's been a sunny & fun saturday. kiki went to her friends house for the day, and lola had a friend round to play. the house has been full of giggles and glitter all day ♥♥♥ the sun has been shining, my laundry is drying outside, miss baya and i have been bouncing on the trampoline and watching the clouds float by.

i've spent the past hour moving things around so that miss lola can have the playroom as her bedroom, instead of a bedroom/playroom. she's getting bigger and in need of some space to call her own. we're almost sorted, all that's left to do is move the play kitchen upstairs and her wardrobe down to her room, but that will have to wait till the mr is home to help.

i've some good tunes blasting out to sing along to while we work, dinner is cooking and all is good :) today has been one of those days that fill your heart and soul and just make you feel good!

i'm looking forward to some crafty time in front of a movie this evening while i wait for my mr to get home from work.

it was a wet & blustery day so you get these from the comfort of my bedroom ;) seriously - i'd have probably blown away if i'd of gone outside! i haven't worn this dress for a while - and i'd kinda forgotten how short it was until i saw these, maybe i should wear it over jeans?!

still, i picked up the legwarmers in the sale at h&m - i love mustard accessories so much right now. and the boots were a thrifty find yesterday - and a bargain at only £2.

p.s please excuse the big under eye bags - the kiddos kept me up most of the night before :/

writing, my family and really good food.

do you have a 'happy place'?
not really a 'place', but taking a bath or a shower always makes me feel happier! i mentally pretend to be 'washing' away negative energy, haha! sounds crazy, but it works for me!

do you have a ‘happy place’?
My favorite happy song is "New York" by Alicia Keys (her version, not the original with Jay-Z) I don't live in New York, but I love it, so the song makes me so happy.

what gets you past a bad day?
Usually taking an hour or two to be by myself, do some writing and look at old photos. Also, I keep a list of goals, accomplishments, and "happy memories" in my notebook and always read it when I feel bad.

i'm happiest when i'm laughing so hard i can barely breathe. whether that's with my family, my boyfriend, friends or coworkers, i love those little moments. and lucky for me they have been happening a lot in 2012.

do you have a ‘happy place’?

it's not a specific place i guess, but i love when the weather is just perfect and i can drive with the windows down and have my arm hang out in the breeze.

do you have a favourite happy song?

i'd say my favorite happy song is also my favorite song ever, "billie jean" by michael jackson. it instantly puts me in a good mood.

what gets you past a bad day?

talking to friends or family usually makes a big difference, and puts everything in perspective. even just being around people i love helps a lot too.

diy vintage fabric garland

i've been wanting something to hang on the wall above my bed for ages, but as we're on a zero shopping budget right now, it needed to be something i could create from things i already had in the house. then the other day i was looking in my fabric scrap box for something for kiki, when i pulled out a rectangular piece and the idea for a garland/bunting cross. i love vintage fabrics, i collect them like crazy and am loathe to throw away scraps. this seemed like a great way to use some of it up, and brighten up my room at the same time.

all you need

a rectangular length of fabric {mine was roughly 4 foot long and around 12" wide, you can make it as big/small as the space you like}

bias tape

cut your fabric to your required lenght, measure a strip of bias tape that's around one and a half times as long as the fabric. iron in half, pin the fabric into it {leaving equal lengths on each side} and then sew in place.

all that remains is to cut the garland, you could measure the strips out if you want it to be perfect, but i just free handed it. each of my strips is around an inch wide, and i stopped cutting about half an inch below the bias tape.

then hang in place and admire your handiwork ;)

there's nothing better than cookies fresh from the oven. yesterday the kiddos and i did a spot of baking, though i think they could make these without my help now! this is my go to cookie recipe, simple, tasty and very adaptable :)

ingredients

1 egg

120g brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

80g butter

100g flour {all purpose}

1 tsp baking powder

100g quick cooking oats {i tend use steel cut oats, blitzed in my blender}

1 tbsp milk

*preheat oven to 180C, 350F, gas mark 4 grease a large baking tray.

*whip egg, sugar & vanilla, then beat in the butter.

*mix in the flour & baking powder, then stir in the oats & milk.

*shape into balls, place on the baking tray & flatten slightly. bake for 15 minutes.

yesterday we made half with choc chips & half with peanut butter chips in. you can experiment and try whatever you like - grated apple & cinnamon, mixed spice & cranberries, butterscotch chips, marshmallows are all ones we've tried and liked.

happy pancake day!

what better way to start the day then with a pile of pancakes?!

the kiddos love it when i make pancakes, normally it's a treat reserved for lazy sundays, so to get them on a tuesday was exciting ;)

guest post: hand carved rubber stamps

i'm excited to bring you this fantastic diy by katrina alana today - i can't wait to try it out myself!

Steps:

Draw a design on the tracing paper or download our recycle rubber stamp pattern here.
Flip the tracing paper so that the design you drew is facing the carving rubber. Go over the design with a pencil to transfer the image.
Cut the edge of the design using the cutter.
Cut-out the design using the pen knife making sure that you carve at a 45 degree angle.

Make sure you cut one section of the design at a time. Cut at a 45 degree angle going one way and cut at a 45 degree angle going the opposite way. You will make a V shape incision. Go over sections of the design until you completely remove the excess rubber.

Ink the carved rubber stamp.
Make a test impression.
Carve-out any imperfection and do a test impression until you’re happy with the rubber stamp.
Stick the mounting tape and remove any excess tape by cutting it off.

Stamp the design on tracing paper and trace the outline of the rubber stamp as well. This will allow you to position the stamp on the wooden block properly.
Once you have an idea on how to position the stamp, stamp on the wooden block.
Clean the stamp using the baby wipes. Baby wipes are perfect for cleaning used rubber stamps.
Use glue or Modge Podge and a brush to seal the wooden block.

woot! we actually have some sunshine today {albeit in between the rain showers ;) } - sunny skies do wonders for the soul. the kiddos have friends round, three extra girls in the house today! i love having a houseful of kiddos - it's so nice to hear them playing and having fun!

as they are all busy, i've had time to photograph, edit and list the new rings in my shop -here are a few of them:

i started this blog 2 years ago{!} initially just as somewhere to talk about my life & my kiddos as we don't live near our families, it was a good way for them to 'see' us. i found that i loved to blog, and loved the friendships i have made.

my favourite subject in school was drama :)

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

i hope that my little shop is still going strong, that my family and i are all happy and healthy, perhaps living abroad somewhere. i'd like to spend more time crating and expanding my business as my kiddos get older. perhaps have a little cafe/shop by the sea.

what makes you happiest?

My six week old baby Wilfryd! No one can explain how much work babies are but similarly no one can explain how much happiness they can bring you! He has recently started smiling which is the most incredible thing, he is starting to experience happiness himself!

do you have a ‘happy place’?

I am a very much a home body and family orientated. I am happiest at home surrounded by my cats, my boyfriend and my baby! Maybe with some good tunes, good music and a sketch book too!

do you have a favourite happy song?

SUCH a hard question! At the moment I would say it was 'Leonard Cohen's - Famous Blue Raincoat' which may seem like an odd choice! I dont know that many people would describe Leonard Cohen as happy music but my son was born to that song so hearing it makes me feel so happy, and makes me cry at the same time!

what gets you past a bad day?

Its hard to remember the good things when you are consumed with a bad day. I tend to think 'tomorrow is a new day' try to think of all the good things that have happened that day or how lucky I am so be healthy and loved. Putting on good tunes helps too! Even if its sad songs, I find they often help to let me wallow and then snap out of it!

what makes you happiest?

I'm not sure what exactly it is that makes me happiest, it's some sort of mixture of being happy with myself, and finding beauty in the world. But of course the equation to my happiness is normally: Iced coffee, new art supplies and alone time.

do you have a ‘happy place’?

My happy place is any where out in nature. I feel very peaceful in forests, fields and cemeteries. When I was younger I would walk to the local cemetery even. My other happy place would be my little art studio. I have pictures of beautiful and happy things all over the walls. It is of course where I create, and that in itself is happy!

do you have a favourite happy song?

My favorite happy song is "Getting Better" by the Beatles. I remember when I was just getting over my depression, I turned on this song and literally danced to it. My little puppy Mowgli danced along with me, and I sang it with him. "It's getting better since you've been mine" was my favorite part, since he was a huge factor in getting over my depression. The song now is very bitter sweet since he passed away, but things always do get better

what gets you past a bad day?

If I'm ever having a bad day, or feeling depressed, I know all I need is to go exploring nature. If that doesn't work, helping someone else always will. Sending someone a sweet message, a small package, or simply telling someone they are beautiful gets me out of a bad mood very very fast.

time for self love

this seems to be an ongoing 'thing' for me. i put myself at the bottom of the looking after list and suffer the consequences. i think to myself that i'm too busy to give myself some time. by the time the homeschooling is done, housework done, kiddos fed, played with, looked after, blogging done, crafting done, shop work done.... i'm too exhausted to think about myself.

yet i know that i am a better person all round when i take some time for me. be it a soak in bath, an hour out of the house without the kiddos, half an hour of yoga or hooping - these things keep me sane, give me back my 'zest' and make me feel oh so good.

i was excited yesterday when the lovely elisabeth emailed me last night about the '30 days mind & body' that she was participting in with a few other bloggers. it was just the push that i needed.
