The biggest and the most elegant Parisian cabaret, famous throughout the world for its gorgeous shows. The Name “Lido” was given in honor of the eponymous Venetian beach in 1928. The designers decorated the interior with the views of that beautiful place, to create an atmosphere of rest and eternal holiday. It was very original institution, combining casino, a small swimming pool and spas. In 1946 the Clerico brothers bought it and opened Lido (Cabaret Lido de Paris). It still does not look like anything in the world.

Since the foundation the cabaret’s owners set for themselves only one goal – to surprise! They wanted to create a place in which would be combined the traditions of the old Parisian cabaret with modern technical advancements and scenic scale of Broadway shows. They came up with a revolutionary formula for visitors, known as the “a good dinner plus gorgeous view”. It met with such success that all the other institutions of Paris, and then the whole world copied it.

Since its inception “Lido” was not only a unique cabaret, but a platform for the fashion shows, a stage for charity concerts and famous artists such as Frank Sinatra and Sir Elton John. In 1998, the football team of France chose “Lido”, to celebrate their victory in the World Cup! Jacques Chirac, George W. Bush and Tony Blair had dined here!

The territory of the Parisian “Lido” is huge – about 7500 square meters. Cabaret occupies six floors! The entire space of the building is left to chance so that the dancers can change costumes in a few moments.

It has 1,150 seats but the room is designed so that the scene is perfectly visible from each seat.

The scale and grandeur of this cabaret emphasizes his backstage. The corridors of ”Lido” are like a small city with the hairdresser, hospitals and gyms. This space is called the “aircraft carrier.” No one knows who came up with the name and why. As the artists say perhaps the whole thing is in the giant rooms, which house the equipment of the show. They are somewhat similar to aircraft containers.

Chef Philippe Lacroix, who commands the cooking in the kitchen in Lido, is as famous in his art as the designers and producers of the show in theirs. He combines traditions of French cuisine with the novelties so successfully that his style is unanimously recognized as unique.

Dinner starts at 19.00 served with a glass of champagne, it is the traditional gift for any traveler. The orchestra of Lido is also known all over Paris for its arrangements.

The show starts only at 21.30, when hunger is appeased, and the guests can fully enjoy the art of dancers, singers and circus performers.

Each show on the Champs Elysees accumulates the most advanced innovations in the entertainment industry. The impressive stage-transformer, pool with a capacity of 80 tons of water, numerous fountains, which use about 60 thousand liters of water during the show! Here you can see the Egyptian pyramids, growing from the floor, the ice arena, the flame spewing dragon, a fabulous oriental city on the scene.

Once you are in the “Lido” you are guaranteed to forget about the existence of the world! At least, for those six hours that the show lasts. It should be noted that today each show costs 9 million EUR! The most famous directors and designers are invited to make the show. Viewers are always amazed with the extraordinary special effects. Waterfalls and fireworks, laser picture and sound make the fantastic show completely unforgettable.

The main theme of all submissions to the Lido has always been and always will be a woman in full force and formidable beauty sensual eroticism. Everything that happens on the stage is intended to show the beauty and sexuality of the female body, expressing the beautiful world of her soul. The legendary costumes of Lido dancers, decorated with the incredible number of ostrich feathers, make a women look like a beautiful flower coveted and inaccessible, enticing and elusive. It’s worth seeing at least once in lifetime.

Lido show in Paris is, without a doubt, a great work of theater, which gives people many caches of their own souls. No one has ever left this room indifferent or disappointed. The atmosphere is truly French elegance and charm, combined with excellent professional dancers, actors, musicians, designers, directors of this great action.

In short, the “Lido” – is the prestige! This is a charm! This is the show! The show, which has been going on for decades! Every year almost 600 000 people visit Lido and the number of those who want to see it with their own eyes is just growing !

Lido’s high bar sets the tone for the rest of the cabaret in Paris, but no one has ever been able to overcome it.

Cabaret is located at – 116 bis, avenue des Champs Elysees.

Champs Elysees (Avenue de Champs-Elysees) is one of the main thoroughfares of Paris and one of the most popular, the crowd of tourists does not dry out here, even late at night. The name comes from Greek mythology. Elysian Fields or Elysium – “island of the blessed”, home to the heroes who have received immortality from the gods.

The famous Champs Elysees is stretched between Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. Compared to the age of Paris Champs Elysees is a relatively young street. The width of the street is 71 meters, the length is 1915 meters.

Once there was a withered arm of the Seine here, in the beginning of XVI century it was a swampy place where French kings came to hunt ducks. In 1616 Marie de Medici ordered to built here three avenues with elms, and in 1667 the landscape architect Le Nôtre arranged exquisite park walking area that continued Tuileries garden. Both sides of its territory were drained and planted with trees. This road stretched then to the present area of the Rhone-Poincare on the Champs Elysees. However, at the time of Louis XVI the area remained uninhabited and not safe for walking. That’s why in 1777, at about the level of the current house number 73 on the Champs-Elysees was built a guard post.

The first houses appeared on the Champs Elysees, at the time of the construction of the royal palace at Versailles.

At the end of the 18th century, the Champs Elysees had a view of a small forest where in some places were stalls, shops and huts. On weekends poor people gathered on the Champs Elysees, hoping to take a break from the six-day working week. They settled on the fresh grass, drinking wine, dancing and singing vaudevilles.

The Second Empire had made some changes in the appearance of the Champs Elysees. More prestigious buildings, luxury villas, lights, pavement paths began to appear here. In 1815 the anti-French coalition troops entered the capital of French. They included the British and the Cossacks of Alexander III. As a place to camp they chose the Elysian Fields. As a result, almost all the old mansions that were in those places, were completely destroyed. A lot of time and money was needed to restore them.

Large-scale construction began on the Champs Elysees in 1840. By this time many of the sights of Paris were at their present locations (for example, the Arc de Triomphe). The whole process of building of the Champs Elysees was under the strict control of Baron Ossman, including the creation of the garden areas. Their appearance has remained virtually unchanged to this day.

Champs Elysees is the traditional place where military parades are held on July 14 (Bastille Day) and on November 11 (the end of the First World War). Crowds of Parisians flock here at the moment of “national jubilation”. It was so, for example, on July 14 in 1989, on the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. So it was on July 12 in 1998, when France became the first champion of the World Cup (on the Champs Elysees was meeting more than 3 million people!).

On the Champs Elysees there are many cinemas, commercial centers of the largest automobile campaigns, world-famous cabaret “Lido“, one of the most expensive Russian restaurants “Rasputin”, a huge store of musical production Virgin Megastore, a lot of travel agencies.

Restaurants are gradually giving way to American food service type of McDonald’s. However the famous restaurant Le Fouquet’s (the oldest restaurant in France (among his guests were Sacha Guitry and Charlie Chaplin)) is still “alive”.

Avenue de Champs-Elysees is one of the best streets in Paris and, according to the popular expression in France: «la plus belle avenue du monde» – «the most beautiful street (prospect) in the world»

All the roads of France are divided into public and private toll free motorways (autoroutes). Highways are very expensive, especially you will feel it, if you go from Paris by car to the south of France to the Riviera Côte d’Azur, where you’ll pay almost every hour, and sometimes more often. Payment is made either by the highway entrance of the plot (the price indicated on the map pointer or light displays for each vehicle), or check-out. It looks as follows: you take the ticket at the barrier on the racks of payment, and you will pay for it at the entrance or exit, and if the payment is made at the exit, then you carefully store card to the end of travel. The disadvantage of charge at the end of travel is that you do not know in advance how much you will have to pay.

The speed limit on motorways 130 km / h (on some sites – 140 km / h).

A distinctive feature of the French roads is the widespread deployment of high-speed radars and ambush police patrols anywhere on the roadside. If a car moving towards you on the road honking to you with its headlights for no apparent reason, then, there is a patrol ahead.

Speаking of the violations, the traffic police in Paris and on any other French roads severely punishes for seat belt, presence of alcohol in the blood in excess of the permitted limit. This rate corresponds to one glass of wine (no more than 150 g.) Or a glass of beer (0.33 g). The norm is calculated in parts per million, and if the verification of this figure in your blood exceeds the allowable level, then get ready for a huge fine or deprivation of rights.

If you are stopped by highway patrol without any reason, do not be nervous or worried, it is probably a routine check. If there is a situation in which you really break the rules, then in any case, do not raise the tone, in general, argue with the police is not accepted. Word of the police is the law, and the laws in France and, of course, in Paris, honored, so the offer of a bribe to the police can easily end up in the local jail and in the future can take away your right to the entrance to France in particular, and the Schengen area in general.

If you are driving and you have children in the car, the lack of special child seats with seat belts entails a heavy fine.

If you take a car for rent in Paris, there are two figures on the right of your cars number, it is the code of the department: Paris – 75, and in the suburbs 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, etc. Thus, you can easily find out where is the car from.

At the afternoon and at the evening in Paris, it is possible to travel by car, of course, except for the peak hours. Streets are especially deserted on Sundays. Cars are mostly small, this is the specific of the city, there is a huge number of narrow streets and serious parking problems. It is always difficult to find a place to park your car. But on many streets there are paid parking lots where you can park your car from a couple of minutes to 2 hours. Parking cost is 2 euros per hour. When you pay the parking fees, be sure to put a ticket under the windshield, so that it is visible, because otherwise the highway patrol’s tow truck can pick up your car and take it to the fine-parking. You can also use the underground parking lot, there are many of them in Paris, but their cost and utilization are high.

The speed limit in Paris is 50 km / h in the center, and on the ring roads it is 80 km / h

There is a lot of Highway Patrol in Paris, and they regularly check the correctness of parking.

Also note that the Parisians are extremely conscious drivers in traffic and they pay special attention to pedestrians.

Features of bus tours.

This kind of tours are very popular with visitors of Paris. Variety of routes, professional guides, interesting historical facts and legends, great sightseeing, modern, comfortable buses are all pluses of the bus tours.

The disadvantages include the fact, that every year in the French capital, just as in any other big city, the number of cars grows , and as a consequence, the hours of traffic jams increase, congestions appear in places where they had never been, there is a problem with parking places. You know, it’s one thing to hear the fascinating story of the guide, constantly watching the spectacular change of scenery outside the bus – it’s really cool. It’s quite another thing to stand in one place for an hour and a half or two, sitting in a bus, surrounded by a dense ring of cars and exhausting fumes. In this case, the pleasure becomes highly questionable. As a result of these delays, the tours program is affected, and now instead of 20 minutes you are offered 10, 5 to get off the bus and make pictures, and sometimes they even have to drive past, to somehow keep the time frame of the excursions.

But if you’re lucky and you dont get in a car bog, then surely, going to the bus tour, you will learn and see a lot of amazing and beautiful. This is a good option for traveling to review the center of Paris (again, if you can avoid traffic jams), but especially bus tours are indispensable when visiting the suburbs of Paris, such as Versailles or Fontainebleau, the castles of the Loire. When you go to Versailles on the bus you get into the palace much faster than those who stand in the regular queue.

Typically, such excursions are offered by agencies in which you purchase tickets to France, or they are included in the excursion packages. Also, you can make a program of your stay in Paris, choosing the most interesting excursions on your own.

Benefits of walking tours.

Walking tours in the historic center of Paris are traditionally popular with visitors. These mobile exciting excursions can explore and consider in detail quite a lot of sights and monuments. And you certainly do not have to waste time in traffic jams. Varied program of excursions, and professional, friendly guides will answer your additional questions. During the tour, you can make memorable pictures and plunge into a true romantic atmosphere of the city without any rush.

In Paris there are many ensembles, ” communities ” of streets, squares, blocks, united with one style, era, idea, story or an author, and just moving around on foot can fully penetrate the meaning and purpose of these architectural monuments, reveal their secrets and get into the spirit of the place. Many travel agencies offer a variety of themed tours of Paris with a different value and the number of people in the group.

A few words about the night walk. Night walk through the historic center of Paris is safe. The city center is patrolled by police squads and there are many cameras. Also, the center is a place where wealthy bourgeois live, and all ethnic diasporas and disadvantaged sections of the population, who arrange unrest, of which we hear on TV, live outside the old city, and rarely any of them can be seen in the center. Therefore, as a rule, nothing criminal happens here. Mostly young people couples and tourists from around the world are walking at night, photographing the night Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. In the late evening the Champs Elysees is especially crowded .

Traditional boat trips

Boat trips and walks along the Seine extremely popular with visitors to Paris. City astounds with his inspired beauty by day, but you will be really fascinated and amazed by its nocturnal. This is a grand symphony of fantastic architecture and light. Many buildings are not just highlighted, on the creation of their overnight appearance worked the most famous masters of the world, artists from France and other countries. And while all of the most important buildings located on the Seine quays, look remarkably effective in the dark, though the most spectacular are the views of the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame de Paris and the Palace of Justice , castle towers of which are always eye-catching.

In Paris, there are several large companies engaged in water excursions, and passenger service along the Seine. All landing ships are concentrated in a few major areas. At the Eiffel Tower is the largest marina – «Bateaux Parisiens», there is also a pier on the Ile de la Cité in the Notre Dame Cathedral, near the bridge of St. Louis, on the island of St. Louis, at the Botanical Garden. You can catch a boat of «Botabus» company, to make a river cruise on the Seine, on the pier at the bridge of Austerlitz (Pond d’Austerlitz), or on the dock of Notre Dame de Paris – the harbor Montebello. Near metro Bastille you can catch a boat of «Ca-nauxrama» company and take a trip on the Canal Saint-Martin with the arrival back to the metro Bastille.

I will say that of course, to see the expositions of most famous art museums in Paris, visit its palaces, parks, villas, excursions, walks along the Seine, gardens, parks and suburbs will give you an incredibly rich experience. But do not try to grasp the immensity, it is impossible to visit all the museums and see all the sights, to remember all the information in a short one or two weeks, you decide to spend in Paris. Be wise and sensitive – make a reasonable, interesting program for you that allows to relax, touch the beautiful and positive emotions.

Good luck and have bright impressions…

Café de Flore is one of the most famous Parisian cafes, a shelter of intellectual and creative audience, which is located in the historic district of Paris.

In the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of the most famous Parisian cafe – Cafe de Flore (Le Cafe De Flore). It was opened in 1877. Since its inception, café has enjoyed great popularity among the bohemian audience. Hence, a proper atmospere. Intellectuals nowadays again do not leave the Café de Flore without attention.

It is located in the sixth district of Paris, at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Rue Saint-Benoit. In the same area, near the cafe, there are such famous attractions as the Luxembourg Palace and Gardens, Theater “Odeon”, the church of Saint-Sulpice, the mansion of Monet, the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, cafe Les Deux Magots, etc. These Popular tourism attractions contribute to a steady stream of public and in the café itself. On weekends, free tables here simply do not exist. And if you want to visit the café and relax in the silence, it’s better to choose a weekday for that.

The name of the Cafe de Flore was in honor of the statue of the goddess Flora, who was standing on the opposite side of the boulevard Saint-Germain. Interior of halls has been preserved to this day almost in the same form in which it was during the days of World War II. In this café you can see the domination of the style of Art Deco, which is made with mahogany paneling of the walls and seats.

During the difficult times of scarce military Café de Flore became famous because of its food allowance(ration) where always fresh eggs were presented . As a tradition, and nowadays, egg dishes are marked on the menu in a special section. The rest of the dishes do not differ significantly from the other Parisian cafes and restaurants. But we should be prepared for a slightly inflated prices. For example, a cup of tea costs at six – seven euros.

However, tourists are not deterred, but rather the contrary. In addition to the conventional Parisians, in the Cafe de Flore for a cup of morning coffee or an evening absinthe always famous people came. In the XIX century – poets and writers ,in the early XX – politicians, since 1947 the Café de Flore – a place of pilgrimage for musicians and jazzmen. Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, Camus and Hemingway, Rimbaud and Verlaine, Picasso, André Breton – are just a few of the famous cafe regulars.

Every year in the Café de Flore held a traditional ceremony of awarding “Flora Award.” It was established in 1994 with the help of modern French writer Frederic Beigbeder and assigned to the talented French authors.

The specificity of the public has led to the fact that poetry and music, books and even some scenes in the movies are repeatedly devoted to Cafe de Flore.

Unforgettable Paris suburb, a place where was the country residence of French kings for centuries, beginning with Louis 7 – (1120-1180), a place where extremely important historical events in French history took place . And today Fontainebleau welcomes its visitorsin in the full splendor of it, recalling the days when France was ruled by great kings.

Fontainebleau has long been a favorite estate of the French monarchs, the site of numerous royal hunting and jousting. The king Francis began the building of non fortified royal castle – the Fontainebleau, which we can admire today. Francis invited famous Italian architects and artists for construction and interior decoration of the palace, among whom was Benveutto Cellini, who turned a standard country house in a true work of art. You will understand what I mean, when you find yourself inside the castle.

Pay attention to the gallery of Francis 1, in which traditionally were apartments of queens, here is a golden bed, adorned with emeralds, breathtaking ballroom and salon of Louis 13, decorated with unique wall paintings. Magnificent apartments of the Duchess of Etampes, the Hall Napoleon, where stands the imperial seat, the gallery of Diana (a priceless library of the castle), and more. For the luxury of the dance halls must lock Napoleon, or rather, Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of the emperor loved balls.

I must say that the French monarchs were very fond of the castle Fontainebleau. After the death of Francis 1, the castle wаs under the watchful eye of King Henry 2 of Valois, and Catherine de Medici. It was then that the famous architect Philibert Delorme was invited to lead the construction. At time of King Henry 4 a large channel appeared near the castle , which the king commanded to fill with fish. The channel has a length of 1,200 meters. In the old days royalty and their entourage were riding on it in decorated boats, and fireworks were tripled on it. But when Louis 14 with the whole court moved to Versailles, which became his favorite, Fontainebleau castle gradually fell into decay, and only during the reign of Napoleon , who started the reconstruction of the royal residence, it again shone in all its glory, acquired in the interiors of their incomparable delicious features of the Empire style.

Fontainebleau castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens with a pond where you can walk and go to the observation deck of the Grand Canal. Besides all the indisputable artistic merit, the castle also has a unique historical collection. You should visit here the museum of Napoleon Bonaparte , with a collection of his personal belongings and gifts to the emperor.

Of course, Fontainebleau deserves your attention, and because this castle is a real jewel of art, and because it is a real witness to many significant events in the history of the French monarchy. Here was born the King Philip 4 Beautiful who weakened the power of feudal lords in the country and defeated the Order of the Templars. Henry 3 was born here – the last king of France from the Valois dynasty. Also here was born King Louis 13 – the husband of Queen Anne of Austria.

And it is here, in the courtyard of the castle Napoleon Bonaparte took leave of his guards, after his abdication.

You can get from Paris to Fontainebleau by yourself , by the subway station Gare de Lyon , where you need to get on the train, departing every hour. The journey will take 45 minutes.

Yet even here there are 2 star hotels and hostels, which will be quite comfortable with people who are not looking for classical interiors, they return to the hotel tired after a day of traveling around the city, wanting, above all, only to rest and gather strength for new exciting discoveries .

The hotel is located at 11 rue Gerando. The closest metro station Anvers (line 2).

Address: 53 rue Richer. Nearest Metro: Cadet, Grands Boulevards and the Rue Monmartre.

Like everywhere else, in France, among the pupils and students hostels are very popular. Of course, not only students can stop here, but young people have advantages, especially the owners of an international student card ISIC. Prices here in half two times lower than in the cheapest hotels. Rooms for 2-4 people, shower on the floor, although in some hostels there are single rooms with showers.

You may find yourself a suitable hostel on the site www.hostelworld.com .
Any kind of accommodation during your stay in Paris, of course, you should book in advance, regardless of class. To book, you would need to collect some information about the hotel via the Internet, make a comparative study of prices and, finally, have a bank card to make a deposit for the booking. Sometimes when booking, money transfer is used.

Note that even if you book through the Internet rather than over the phone, is always better to call the hotel before the trip and make sure that everything is fine.

Keep in mind that the maximum occupancy of hotels and hostels is in May and June. Also, you may have problems with taking numbers during the Christmas and New Year holidays and during major international summits and exhibitions. So if you plan to visit Paris during these periods, book rooms in advance, no less than a couple of months.

In Paris, traditionally there are two season sales: summer and winter. And this time is a real feast for those who love shopping, appreciate quality and style and is ready to spend days wandering through the galleries of department stores and boutiques, enjoying their purchases. Each year, the exact date of the beginning of the seasons is changed. But as a rule, the summer sale begins in the first decade of July (in the last two years –it starts on the first days of July), and winter sale, that starts either immediately after the Christmas holidays or in the second week of January. Generally, in Paris since 2010, the owners of large networks and simply stores have been allowed to establish flexible start dates for winter sales, and today they decide when to close one and open the next season. In the famous Galeries Lafayette – which is the favorite store of Edith Piaf, Claudia Schiffer and Catherine Deneuve – sale can go far beyond the traditional second week of January, and possible discounts can be up to 70%. During these days it can be 50% – 90% price discount in the traditional brand boutiques: Zara, Mango, Benetton, French Connection, H & M, Morgan, C & A, Orsay, Marks & Spenser, and many others.
In many Parisian shops operates the “Tax Free” international system. Making purchases at stores that operate under this system, you can count on a return of an amount equal to 11-16% of the cost of purchased goods at the border of France. But it’ll be if the total amount of goods purchased in the same store and on the same day and purchase is not less than 175 euros. As a rule the stores that operate with the discount of export must be marked with “Tax Free Shopping” label, but often this sign is absent. Then you can ask the seller about that: Tax Free is understandable in any language. But, of course, such giants as the biggest Parisian department store Prentamp or Galery Lafayette have special racks where the”Tax Free” checks are issued.
The very process of shopping looks like this: in the store where you make the purchase, you show your passport, and the seller writes a special “Global Refund Cheque” for you, which is stamped at the customs at the airport. Giving this check and purchases at the counter “Cash Refund”, you will collect your cash. Usually, even if there is a small queue, the whole procedure takes less than 20 minutes.
In practice, sellers often include in the check only the name and the quantity of these goods, the amount of the purchases and the sum, that relates to be returned, information about the shop, and seller’s signature, and you aren’t asked to show your passport. In such cases you need to enter your passport details by yourself. And keep in mind that tax for books, food, wine and tobacco products is not refundable.

Place de la Bastille, also known as Bastille Square, is a stunning attraction in Paris with an amazing history. Once the location of the notorious Bastille stronghold, Place de la Bastille is remembered for the start of the French Revolution in 1789. A great history, with amazing sights and culture, Place de la Bastille is a perfect historical attraction in Paris to visit.

A Brief History

The notorious Bastille stronghold, which was finally constructed in 1382, was a massive building that featured 8 huge towers, each standing 72ft in height. The purpose of this stronghold was to protect the city from invasion during the famous Hundred Years’ War. The Bastille stronghold would later turn into a prison, housing criminals sent to jail by the King. Famous inmates of the Bastille Prison included Sade, Fouquet and Voltaire. It was well known that the treatment of these prisoners in the Bastille Prison was inhumane and strong, nevertheless the prison remained open until the “Storming of the Bastille” in 1789.

The Bastille Prison

On July 14 1789 the Bastille Prison was stormed by a rebellious group opposed to the National Guard. The Bastille Prison was overrun and the prisoners inside were released. This day marked the start of the French Revolution and is still celebrated around France as Bastille Day, a French national holiday since it was declared in 1860.

Following the storming of the Bastille, the prison was demolished. Nowadays you can see a marking of where the Bastille Stronghold/Prison once was, and some remains of the foundations are also visible along Boulevard Henri IV.

Want to know more about the history of Place de la Bastille and the French Revolution?

The French Revolution Walking Tour is a great way to learn about the significance of one of the most important events in modern history in an interesting and real way. The walk is highly entertaining and visual – allowing you to experience history right in front of your own eyes. Hear the gripping tales of the revolution from the overthrow of the monarchy to the guillotine, relive the troubled times leading up to the storming of the Bastille prison, the capture of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and the Reign of Terror. Learn about Louis XVI – the proud king who lost his throne and his life and Marie Antoinette – the Austrian Queen who uttered the infamous phrase, “… then let them eat cake.” It can all be experienced on the French Revolution Walk.

Bastille Square

Bastille Square was constructed in 1803 and includes a giant Elephant shaped fountain, columns depicting the revolution and other monuments. The only column left standing in the current day is Colonne de Juillet, which was constructed to commemorate those who lost their life in the revolution of 1830 when King Charles X was overthrown. This 171ft column is a magnificent sight, constructed with beauty and elegance. Atop the mammoth column sits the Spirit of Liberty statue, another magnificent piece of art that is worth seeing.

Opéra Bastille (Bastille Opera)

Opened on July 14th 1989, the Bastille Opera building was constructed to be part of the grand projects initiated by former president François Mitterrand. The design of the Opera house was meant to be a direct replacement for the Palais Garnier, Opéra National de Paris. The Bastille Opera House is considerably larger than that of the Palais Garnier, with over 2700 seats, it is an upgrade to the original Opera house which tends to only show ballet performances in the modern day.

Opera Bastille

Inside the Opera Bastille are many shops and even a metro exit, making the Opera house a lot more “people friendly” than Palais Garnier. There are a large selection of Opera and Ballet shows taking place in the Bastille Opera House on a daily basis and it is highly recommended to catch a show if you are visiting Place de la Bastille.
