Little girls have some of the cutest accessories. From hats, to purses, to headbands there is always a way to jazz up a little girl. If your little one really likes wearing headbands, then help her create this adorable birds and butterfly headband. We are excited to share this new project with you, because it features two new items designed by Cathie and Steve.

This crafty duo is at it again, and they have created a line of Mod Melts and Mod Molds. This new line is now available at Michaels, and it gives you a new way to embellish any craft project. This headband makes a great summer accessory for your little girl. It was designed by Kindra Boroff, a talented freelance designer, and make sure you assist your little girl in making this project, as it is a little more of an advanced project. ·       FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors - Ocean Cruise, 2 oz.

·       Mod Podge ® Mod Melts - White Milk Glass

Fabric Glue
White thread
Needle
Scissors

Instructions

1.    Cross two pieces of the yellow ribbon in the back at one end and adhere with fabric glue. Wrap the headband with the ribbon, crossing the two ribbons. Secure the ribbon in a few places in the back as you wrap the headband. 

2.    Cut five pieces of yellow ribbon 2 ½” long. With a piece of thread, start a running stitch at the top corner on the end of the piece of ribbon. Continue the stitch across one side and up the other end. Pull the ends of the threads together to create a petal and secure with a knot. Repeat the steps for the other petals.

3.    Using a piece of thread stitch the five petals together at the bottom of each petal. Secure the ends of thread together to create a flower. Repeat the steps for the other two yellow ribbon flowers and the two light teal flowers.

4.    Create the butterfly and bird pieces with the Mod Melts and Mod Molds listed. Paint the pieces with Ocean Cruise. 

5.    Paint the bird nest with Wicker White and the eggs with Ocean Cruise.

6.    With a dry stencil brush and Wicker White, rub the edges of the pieces lightly.

7.    Hot glue the pieces to the ribbon flowers and glue to the headband.

Foam paintbrush

Rule the roost (or at least the back yard) this summer in these fantasy bird masks!   

The basic materials are FolkArt or Apple Barrel paint in your favorite colors, Extreme Glitter in hologram or confetti, paint brushes, card stock and a fabric mask.

Base coat the mask with splashes of color and leave to dry. Coat the mask with Extreme Glitter to add a touch of sparkle.

 

While the Extreme Glitter is drying, fold a piece of card stock in half and cut a triangle so that the folded edge stays in tack. Using the above photo as a guide, open the triangle and fold the bottom edge over 1/4” as well as cut slits in the center and round out the edges. Admittedly there is no perfect pattern for this beak---each one is different. Re-fold the triangle to get a beak shape. Glue the tip of the beak together to give it a point.

 

 

Next, glue the beak to the mask.

 

To add durability to the card stock beak, paint the area with Mod Podge. Thread the ribbon through the holes on the edge of the mask and tie. I added a dot of hot glue to make them double secure. You can also add gems with Mod Podge directly on the mask and use hot glue to attach feathers.
