Im not referring to those clients with serious medical conditions which is certainly beyond their control, I’m referring to our own compromised health conditions brought on by poor diet and lack of exercise. One essential component to good diet and health I learned about years ago (from a Chiropractor friend of mine) is the importance of hydration. Thats’ right, plain old fashioned water. Not water with “stuff” in it, not water that costs any money, not water with fancy names, just plain old mother nature provided water that all Americans have access too. Here are some staggering, no nonsense water statistics. ”75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it is capable of slashing the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.”

How have we allowed such a simple, healthy, daily to do health benefit to get so out of sight? I was walking out of a home improvement store last week, and there was a van out front offering glasses of water to patrons. When I approached to get mine they asked “what flavor would you like added?” What? Why would I intentionally add a chemical filler to one of the last surviving unaltered substances that exists on this planet? I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. Shoot, I actually make a game out of trying to drink enough water each day. My daily goal is 3 litres. I always have my water bottle with me. I make myself little hydration goals like trying to finish 1 litre while I run my errands. And I also make sure I have water by my bed side and try to drink an least half a litre during the night.

So, as you can see, I am passionate about hydration. It’s one of the easiest, healthy “to do’s” we can do for ourselves. Proper water intake each and every day. And with that, I leave you with this. ”According to a survey, nearly three quarters of Americans are aware of the recommendation of drinking eight glasses of water a day, though only 34% actually drink this amount of water each day. Most humans consume only about 6 servings of water a day and nearly 10% declared they do not drink water at all.”

I do. That’s why I added Paul Zane Pilzers (author and economist) video to my website for his unique perspective on individual health coverage. He was interviewed on the WealthTracktalk program. He states, “if your spouse and children are healthy, run, don’t walk to get an individual health plan independent of your employer coverage” and here’s why. If you tie all of your families health coverage to an employer plan, all your eggs are in one basket. If you lose your job, your entire family will be without coverage versus only you. Group/employer coverage costs are based on the health of that company’s employee’s. It is reviewed annually, and if there were claims submitted the year prior, chances are your employer will to take more from your paycheck in the next year. Are you a younger employee working with older colleagues? Then your picking up their health tab. When you chat around the water cooler is the discussion about family members health problems, or serious illnes in the past year? If so, you are helping to pay for those expensive claims.

Now, is it smart to have the actual employee covered under group coverage? Absolutely, because the employer is paying 50% of that individuals coverage, but that’s where it stops. Spouse and children are not given the same deep employee discounts, and so your paying more for your family coverage than you have to. Pilzer’s advice is to purchase individual coverage while you are young and healthy. Why? You keep this type of coverage forever, regardless of layoff’s, illness, or if you choose to become self employed, and your monthly costs will only increase with age and inflation, it will NOT increase due to any type of illness.

I encourage you to check out Pilzer’s 7 minute video interview on my site under the “Helpful Resources” tab. It’s an interesting perspective!

Plan4HealthInsurance is happy to review your current health portfolio with you so you can feel confident you have the right, and least expensive coverage for your family.

Hello All,

I am relatively new to the world of “blogging” but I do feel it will be an effective vehicle to express details of health related topics that can’t be detailed on web pages. As you read on my web site bio page, I believe that wellness, and health care prevention is by far the best “health” policy for all of us. I want my clients to to be ABLE to afford health insurance, but at the lowest rates, therefore I will focus some blog topics on elements of “Wellness/Preventative” care, in addition to a broad range of topics including but not limited too; Obama health reform and what it means to us on a day to day basis; I will periodically highligh health providers plans and detail any changes they announce; also share success stories whereby having health coverage was a blessing and saved somebody from contemplating bankruptcy.

I hope you find my weekly blogs informative, perhaps funny, but mostly I hope it’s useful information you will remember and use.

Thank you for reading,
