An unlocked cell phone is a way to free yourself from a wireless carrier.

If you’ve purchased a particular cell phone, you like it and know how to use it, but you don’t care for your wireless carrier, cell phone unlocking is an option that you might consider.

Unlocking your cell phone is as easy as accessing a new IMEI code. This code is typically found on the SIM another SIM card of service provider. Most cell phone providers lock their mobile phones so you can only use the phone with their service. It comes as no surprise that the web offers plenty of information and cell phone unlocking services.

Before you decide to unlock your cell phone, it’s a good idea to know a little about the process. Most cell phones are designed to utilize a SIM card or the Subscriber Identification Module. The Subscriber Identification Model is issued by the carrier and provides the cell service by automatically activating the cell phone that it’s inserted in. A locked phone is programmed to only recognize or read the SIM card from that particular carrier.

With an unlocked cell phone, it will recognize the SIM card from any of the carrier. As defined, the lock is the software setting which keeps the cell phone loyal to its one and only carrier. In the United States, if the carrier provides discounted cell phone plans, locked cell phones are commonly found.

Locked cell phones are important to wireless carriers because they help subsidize the phone costs. Many of these locked cell phones might be sold at a significant discount if the user agrees to a new two year or three year service agreement.

After a period of time, some carriers agree to unlock the cell phone upon the users request. There is an applicable service fee for subscribers that wish to unlock from their wireless provider. Sometimes proprietary settings which are installed on the locked handsets can cause the cell phones to fail to function when using other carriers even when they are unlocked.

According to some consumers’, the practice of most carriers when it comes to unlocking the phones, including the use of proprietary settings, essentially defeats the SIM handsets benefits. But unlocking a cell phone doesn’t have to be so difficult, there are easy ways where you can unlock your cell phone by your own.

You can unlock your cell phone in two basic ways. Sometimes you can unlock it by entering the code in it. This code is connected to your phone and was linked to a particular serial number of your handset. In fact, the code can be purchased for under $30.00 and once you’ve unlocked it, you can switch to other cell phone providers or travel internationally.

With some mobile phones, the process isn’t quite so simple. Some phones have to unlock the service or the operating system, meaning that the phone basically has to be rewritten in order to remove your lock. If you have this kind of handset, then you will need a data cable programming to unit which is quite expensive. After unlocking the cell phone, you will receive a message that says it has been unlocked which means you are now free to select your service provider that you want. Once you get a new service provider, it is important to inquire if the phone will become locked again, since it is still possible.

Are you using a Blackberry? Unlock it here.

With so many different cell phones being launched, there’s no doubt that technology has indeed come a long way.

This is clearly seen on how cell phones transformed from being a simple communication device to an almost all-in-one gadget that makes our life easier and exciting.

If you’re old enough, I’m sure you’ll remember having one telephone number for an entire household. If you were lucky, you might have had a telephone in your room. This single telephone number was tethered by a phone line and was likely the cause of many family arguments.

Fast forward 20 years and wireless mobile phones were introduced to a new generation. These amazing devices made it so you were never far from anyone and you can take calls or send a text message, a photo or video to your favorite contacts instantly. Cell phones have made staying in touch much easier.

With all of the innovation and technology available today, some cell phones have become difficult to use even for the savvy customers. This is why choosing the right cell phone can be a time intensive task.

There are a number popular cell phones, and even though they offer endless features to the end user, some of them are confusing to use. Despite this, there are still a lot of cell phone handsets that are user friendly.

The best way to determine what cell phone is a perfect fit for you is by comparing a number of makes and models before purchasing a new cell phone. You can easily do research on available mobile phones by checking out the web sites of popular cell phones or by searching on Amazon for deals, user reviews and wireless service.

There are so choices and this can make selecting a mobile phone a difficult task. Popular models include the T-Mobile G Phone, the Samsung Flipshot, RIM Blackberry Pearl, and Apple iPhone 3G.

The vast majority of cell phones available today have the ability to snap digital photos. Since cell phones are designed in order to perform various tasks, the picture quality can differ from phone to phone. Today’s cell phones aren’t just made to communicate, but can be used as an alternative to carrying around a camera and a video camera. The Samsung Flipshot is a popular camera phone because it provides high resolution pictures where you can almost see the soul of your subject, plus, it has a unique design which makes it look sophisticated. The Samsung Flipshot is a 3.0-megapixel resolution camera. It has a flash for low light pictures and a camcorder with video and auto focus for sharper images. The Flipshot is unique because if features the Flip and Twist method. When open. the Flip has the capability to swivel up to 180 degrees and once it faces away the user, it will automatically flip backwards and then turns horizontally to become a miniature digi-cam. The Flip supports Bluetooth technology that allows the user transfer or send photos easily.

The RIM Blackberry Pearl is another Smartphone that offers many features that a user will enjoy. The Blackberry Pearl has an enhanced version of QWERTY keyboard for easy typing, a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player and video capabilities.

One of Blackberry’s biggest rivals is the Apple iPhone 3G. The 3G has the same features as the original Apple iPhone. It offers a speed 3G wireless performance, new App store support for cool applications and GPS mapping.

The Samsung Flipshot is currently available for $399.99, not including airtime and calling plans, the RIM Blackberry Pearl has a price tag of $199.95, not including airtime and calling plans.

The Apple 3G costs $199 to $399, depending on the model you choose - again this doesn’t include airtime or data plans.

It’s worth noting that these types of Smartphones require both a calling and a data plan in order to take advantages of all these features. Simpler phones that don’t offer as many features, like access to the internet, can also be found
and are a less expensive option for those that are trying to stay budget conscious, or are more interested in having a mobile phone just to talk.

It’s your job as a savvy consumer to compare phones, calling and data plans to make sure that you get the best cell phone deal that you can for your unique calling needs.

When it comes to our needs, we always want to get the best of everything. This is true also when it comes to our cell phone. Almost everyone has a cell phone because you can do so many things with it. From short messaging, receiving and making a call, to taking pictures and video, to playing music, to sending and receiving emails - the functions of modern cell phones truly have evolved. In many parts of the globe, a cell phone is a necessity because of the need for communication and even entertainment.

Some people might think that if you don’t have a cell phone, you are either living under a rock or you’re simply not in.

There are millions of cell phone users worldwide and because of this different network carriers are on a battlefield to win the subscriptions of many users. Different cellular networks have introduced new features that enable users to simply do more. There are now software application extensions, internet surfing, push button functions, music synchronization and many others.

Aside from additional features, some companies that offer cellular services also provide discounts and subscription promotions. Among these perks and bonuses, you’ll still need to find a viable wireless plan. Finding the right wireless plans for a particular group of user may be difficult. This is true especially since the mobile phone industry offers hundreds of different plans to choose from. One of the reasons is that while they seem to help the masses, most of these plans actually have hidden costs and instead of minimizing the expenses, they actually add burden to the consumers.

How can you find the best cell phone plans? When choosing the best plans, you have to filter out the available options first. If you have an existing plan, analyze if you are making the most out of that plan. If there are additional charges made, find out the reason why you regularly exceed the plan that you are paying for. If they reasoned out that it is an excessive call, then you must upgrade your plan. Consequently, downgrade it if you are using the monthly phone service that has more options than you actually need. If you are considering a prepaid plan, carefully estimate what services and how often you’ll be calling.

Before choosing a wireless plan, these are some factors that you have to consider before signing a service agreement: roaming services, peak time, in-network calls, and off-peak time. To assure that you don’t get a cell phone bill the size of Mount Helen, assess when and where you make your cell phone calls. Do you make most of your calls in the evening or on the weekends? Many cellular carriers offer free nights and weekends, which means that calls made during these times won’t count against the minutes offered in your calling plan. Do you find yourself out of network often? Roaming charges can quickly add up, so you’ll need to make sure that you don’t have to hand over your first born to pay for these services.

It’s advised to check providers that offer additional off-peak times since it can help you save money. Some wireless carriers offer unlimited services to those that use the same network. For instance, Verizon Wireless offers unlimited “in-calling” to subscribers. This means that you can make unlimited calls to other Verizon Wireless subscribers for no additional fees. Family calling plans is another top pick, since it outfits your entire family with handsets and a calling plan. When using family calling plans, the calls are subtracted from the family’s free air time, allowing the family to save more money.

When choosing your phone plans, it’s important to communicate what you’re looking for in a phone. Do you need to access the internet? Do you text message a lot? If you know what you’re looking for in a calling plan, a sales representative can better assist you in finding the best cell phone plan for you.

If you’re looking to add a bit of style to your mobile phone, a cell phone cover or cell phone skin is a great way to do so.

Cell Phone covers shield your mobile phone from the elements like wind and rain.

Leather cell phone covers are an affordable way to protect your cell phone. Many leather cell phone covers have a clip that makes it easy for people to carry their mobile phones on their belt or in a pocket without fears of dropping or losing it. Typically these covers can be found for between $20.00-$50.00, depending on the model of the cell phone.

Before buying a leather cover for your mobile phone, be sure to use a cover that fits your handset correctly, since cell phone covers aren’t a “one size fits all” item.

If you just want to personalize your phone and you’re not too worried about the protection aspect of a cell phone cover, you might want to consider a cell phone skin. Cell phone skins are typically thin plastic covers with a design of your choice that adheres to the exterior of the handset, but can easily be removed if you decide to change it later. These skins can be personalized with your favorite photo, your favorite team logo or an array of designer styles.

Whether you’re looking for added style or protection for your mobile phone, cell phone covers and skins are one way to personalize your mobile phone without spending a lot of extra cash.

As many people are looking to cut expenses wherever they can to deal with the current economic conditions, it’s no wonder that prepaid cell phone cards are gaining in popularity.

Prepaid cell phone cards offer an affordable and manageable solution to your cellular calling needs and eliminate large bills caused by excessive text messaging or going over your monthly allotted minutes on a traditional calling plan. These prepaid calling cards are especially suited to those that don’t use a mobile phone excessively, but want the convenience of having a cell phone in the case of emergency or the ability to contact friends or family on a less frequent basis. They are also great for someone that doesn’t want to have a credit check or put down a costly deposit for cellular services.

In order to use a prepaid cell phone card, a consumer will need a prepaid mobile phone. This type of mobile phone can be found at numerous popular retailers, including Wal-Mart, Target and Walgreens. Other retailers like gas stations sometimes carry prepaid phones and calling cards, too. In addition to these retailers, you might also find prepaid phones at AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores, if you choose to go straight to the source. Another option is Virgin Mobile, which specializes in prepaid cell phones.

Before purchasing a prepaid cell phone card, it’s important to make sure the card will work with your phone - the prepaid minutes must be from the same carrier that services your phone, otherwise the card won’t work.

So if you’re looking to trim your monthly bills or want a mobile phone without paying a small fortune, consider a prepaid mobile phone and prepaid cell phone cards before you spend money on a costly (and lengthy) calling plan.

You’ve heard of drug sniffing dogs no doubt. They’re the canines who find illicit drugs through their highly developed sense of smell. Well now a Philadelphia jail is using a dog named Bomber to sniff out cell phones, which are banned items.

Bomber, a Belgian Malinois, began working in the city’s six prisons in January. He’s the only dog trained to sniff out forbidden phones in prisons in Pennsylvania.

Following the lead of his proficient proboscis, he has found 10 cell phones in the past three months - more than guards found all last year in the state’s 26 prisons.

The prisoners are able to sometimes sneak the cell phnes in with them, but Bomber is on the job to make sure their infraction doesn’t go unpunished. Man’s best friend indeed.

In a sign of the continued decline of cell phone demand, Sony Ericsson has announced layoffs. The announcement came on the heels of a very bad quarter.

Mobile handset maker Sony Ericsson said Friday that it swung to a net loss of 293 million euros in the first quarter of 2009. Last year, the firm posted a profit of 133 million euros. The firm posted a pretax loss of 370 million euros, in line with a forecast it gave in March. Sales fell to 1.7 billion euros, from 2.7 billion euros last year, primarily due to continued weak consumer confidence and de-stocking. The firm plans to further reduce operating expenses by mid-2010 and cut another 2,000 jobs. It expects the global handset market to contract by at least 10% in 2009, from 1,190 million units in 2008. End of Story”

Nokia, the world’s largest cell phone manufacturer also announced job cuts after posting a 90% decline in net profits over the same quarter one year earlier.
