Blotting Pizza and 14 Other Easy Things You Can Do...

2015-10-29T16:33:00.000-07:00

Being healthy doesn't have to be hard. There are small things you can start doing right now that will make you feel and look better within just a few days. Take a look at these simple steps that will change your life.

1. Blot your pizza!
According to Labdoor, blotting your Dominos pepperoni pizza will save you 4.5 grams of fat and 40.5 calories. Doesn't sound like much, right? Scale that to the average American's pizza intake: 23 pounds per year. That will save you 6611.2 calories every year or the equivalent of 20.4 fewer slices of pizza. That's ~1.9 pounds prevented from going to your waist. A small win!

2. Make a grocery list
Before you go to the grocery store, make a list of everything you need. If it's not on the list, don't buy it. This will prevent impulse buying and bringing unnecessary junk food home.

3. Eat breakfast - every day
You aren't doing your body a favor by starving yourself all morning. Eat something—even something as small as yogurt and fruit—before you head out the door. Eating breakfast kickstarts your metabolism and will help you regulate your weight.

4. Drink water
Staying hydrated is an easy way to control your hunger (often we mistake dehydration for hunger). Always keep a reusable water bottle handy and substitute water for juice or soda. You'll cut calories instantly.

5 Life-Changing Things That Happen When You Downsize

2015-10-29T15:58:00.001-07:00

In our reality, we are bombarded with messages of rampant consumerism, accumulation, money, and advertisements at every turn, because our economy thrives off of people buying things they don’t really need.

We have been tricked into believing that the key to happiness lies within our purchases, when it really begins within ourselves.
Lately, though, minimalism seems to be gaining traction as more people realize that they have no use or interest in participating in conspicuous consumption anymore. If you have had enough of the idea that more stuff equates to more happiness and want to downsize,

Here are 5 life-changing things that happen as you downsize:

1. You will have less to worry about.

As you detach yourself from the endless, unsatisfying paradigm of getting into debt to buy things you don’t really want or need, you will find a very welcoming reality on the other side of that – one of sheer peace and bliss. In the end, you don’t really own the stuff you buy; it ends up owning you instead. So, as you reduce the amount of clutter in your house and focus more on lasting sources of happiness that lie within you, you will eliminate a big source of stress and anxiety from your life.
Many people report that finances are a major source of distress in their daily lives, so by drastically cutting back on your consumption, you will feel a huge weight lifted from your shoulders.

2. You will feel liberated from the expectations of others

Many people buy new things that are out of their price range to simply impress others. They want others to notice them, praise them, and feel happy for them. However, that temporary satisfaction you gain from other’s acknowledgment quickly fades, and you will always need to buy more, have more, and be more in order to keep their attention.
When you adopt a minimalist lifestyle, however, you start to remember what really matters in life. You see that you don’t need to impress others; all you need to do is feel content with yourself, and that comes from your own heart. As long as you love yourself and stay true to your character, no one else’s opinion really matters. You could have one outfit to wear and a mattress to sleep on, but as long as you feel fulfilled at the end of the day, no amount of money or possessions could ever replace that feeling.

3. You will have more money to spend on experiences rather than things.

Another bonus to living a simpler life is that you will have a newfound interest in spending your money creating memories rather than stuff. After all, studies have shown that people who spend money on experiences rather than things are much happier at the end of the day. Minimalists value a trip across the world more than buying a new suit, and it’s easy to see why.
We all just want to feel something, and find real meaning in life. Meeting new people, exploring uncharted territory, and growing as a person offer a chance to feel alive, but can you really say the same thing about new clothes, houses, and other material items?

4. You can focus more on your own passions rather than possessions.

By spending less time worrying about buying new items to replace ones that aren’t “trending” or fashionable anymore, you can put your attention toward what you feel passionate about. Maybe you have been wanting to train for a marathon or go exploring in your state, or take up a painting class at your local museum. The possibilities are endless when you strip away what weighs you down and put your energy into your personal interests and desires.
We have a limited time here in this current existence, so many of us have realized that we must truly seize the day and focus on what brings us value, not what adds superficial value to a broken system.

5. You create more physical space, as well as mental space.

Minimalism goes far beyond clearing up space in your home or apartment; it cleanses the soul and revitalizes the heart. It makes you feel empowered and liberated, leaving behind ideals that only lead to disappointment and stress from trying to make it in the rat race. It gives clarity, and a chance to start anew with fresh ideas and inspirations about what you want to accomplish, and offers a wellspring of opportunities for how to capture the true essence of life.
Downsizing isn’t just about a reduction of physical stuff; it’s about a worldwide revolution, an expansion of consciousness that will help humanity thrive, not just survive. Detachment from possessions means you can see beyond this superficial reality created by people only interested in profits into one that you have created from your soul.
This journey will help you break your chains to the modern way of living, and enter a new, exciting world that you manifest from your highest desires – and no one can take that away from you.
Money and possessions are temporary, but memories and experiences make an everlasting imprint on your soul.

8 Children's Halloween Costumes You Shouldn't Try at Home

2015-10-27T16:25:00.002-07:00

We've all probably seen it once or twice: You're at a Halloween party or out trick-or-treating or even wearing your costume to school (because most schools are cool enough to let you do that nowadays), and this one idiot shows up wearing something that really should never have made a public debut.

But what happens when the offending costume just happens to be on a young child? The result can be a very confusing combination of occasionally funny and so, so wrong. After all, it's hard to imagine what could motivate a parent to dress their little bundle of joy as a young Hitler.

But despite the assumed judgment that comes to these parents, year after year we manage to see dark humor on trick-or-treating children. So today, we've prowled the internet to find some of the most inappropriate children's' costumes for your viewing pleasure—or displeasure. Prepare to cringe.

1. Chucky. What better way to get your kid into the Halloween spirit than by dressing him or her up as film's most bloodthirsty doll? If the kid is old enough to know that Chucky is, in fact, a child's plaything, we can pretty much guarantee a future fear of Barbies.

2. Hitler. Why in the seven hells did people all over Instagram think it was a good idea to dress their child up as a genocidal historic figure? We'll let these questionable parents remain anonymous simply because we're feeling generous.

3. King Joffrey. Now your child, too, can get in on the murderous fun by dressing up as the one character in Game of Thrones that everyone wished would've done us the favor of dying sooner.
King Joffrey Costume

4. Christian Grey. If your kid isn't old enough to read the books, then they're not old enough to dress up as the titular BDSM master. Especially not at school. (Here's looking at you, parents on Instagram).

5. Cigarette Baby. Don't worry! Little Timmy isn't smoking yet! But with this costume, just give it a few years...

6. Baby Marijuana. The natural next step! This one is pretty funny, but way out of the realm of the necessary. Drugs for Halloween—that's not exactly an A-plus decision right there.
Weed Costume

7. Baby Bartender. Your child may be more than ten years below the legal drinking age, but that won't stop baby bartender from serving you a drink that'll knock you out cold. He probably put Absinthe in it, just FYI.

8. Whoopie Cushion. Why are babies on the Internet dressed as fake farts? Because that's all whoopee cushions are. Fake farts. We wonder if the costume could actually operate as a legit whoopee cushion—but please don't sit on your baby to test it out.

jose mourinho rumours latest news speculation on chelsea manager

2015-10-27T16:15:00.001-07:00

Representatives for Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho are reportedly planning ahead for the possibility of their client being sacked by the Blues.
PSG and Inter Milan have been named as potential next employers for the Portuguese, while Monaco claim they have held discussions.
Continue for updates.

Monaco Shareholder Reveals Mourinho Talks

Tuesday, Oct. 27

"On Saturday night the first contact was made with Jose Mourinho about training Monaco," said shareholder Alessandro Proto, relayed by Sport (h/t Joe Mewis of the Daily Mirror).
"We are still in a very early stage but we are convinced that Mourinho could train Monaco," Proto added.

Mourinho Representatives Reportedly Exploring PSG and Inter

Monday, Oct. 26

In the event Mourinho is dismissed from Stamford Bridge, he may reunite with Inter Milan in Serie A or move on to reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, according to ESPN.com's Miguel Delaney. Delaney stated Mourinho's top choice would be PSG, and the two sides have already been in contact.
If he were to flee to PSG, Mourinho could become the second manager ever to win league trophies in five different countries. A return to Inter would also be a logical move after he left the club on excellent terms.

Chelsea Boss in Turmoil at Stamford Bridge

Neil McLeman of the Daily Mirror reported Mourinho could be sacked if the Blues lose Saturday's Premier League showdown against Liverpool.
The Chelsea boss made "foul-mouthed" remarks to referee Jonathan Moss at half-time of the Blues' recent 2-1 loss to West Ham United, according to the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel. The incident got Mourinho ejected from the dugout, and the FA hit him with a misconduct charge.
Chelsea are languishing in the bottom half of the table and already face a huge fight just to make the top four, let alone defend their crown.
One can't blame Mourinho's representatives for organising a contingency plan, because it appears the writing is on the wall unless the 52-year-old can spark a remarkable turnaround quickly.

Wine Ice Cream make Everyone getting mad

2015-09-19T16:48:00.000-07:00

Everybody Stop Everything Because WINE ICE CREAM

Last night I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I came across the most beautiful sight my eyes have ever seen:

You saw that right: WINE ICE CREAM. And we’re not talking wine-flavored ice cream, we’re talking actual wine with 5% alcohol right smack in the carton. I know exactly how you must be feeling right about now, because I felt the same way when I first learned the news.

giphy.com

Right? Or maybe it was more like…

giphy.com

And because the magnificent people at Mercer’s Dairy (the gods who make the WINE ICE CREAM) know that every wine aficionado has a slightly different palate, there are eight resplendent flavors to choose from. Read ‘em and drool:
• Chocolate Cabernet
• Cherry Merlot
• Red Raspberry Chardonnay
• Strawberry Sparkling
• Peach White Zinfandel
• Riesling
• Port
• Spice (red mulled wine)
I know. I KNOW!

giphy.com

We need to have a slumber party right now.
But here’s the bad news. Evidently, WINE ICE CREAM has been around since 2006, so this glorious gift to the mortals has been in existence for a full nine years without me knowing. Thinking about all that time I’ve wasted eating ice cream and drinking wine separately is an all-out crying shame.
Since I didn’t know about it, I figured there must be other folks out there who were also woefully, miserably in the dark and I knew I had to rectify the situation immediately. So here I am, shouting it to the masses, screaming it from the rooftops: WINE ICE CREAM, everybody. WINE fucking ICE CREAM.
You’re welcome.

Dog stands guard for week until trapped friend found

2015-09-17T23:56:00.001-07:00

Thanks to a loyal setter and a group of volunteers, two dogs were found safe after a week lost in the woods in Washington state.
Tillie, the setter, stayed with her doggie friend Phoebe for a week. She left each day to go find help. Phoebe a basset hound, was trapped in a concrete cistern in a ravine where Tillie stood guard.
The nonprofit animal rescue organization Vashon Island Pet Protectors had posted photos of the dogs on their Facebook page, hoping someone would spot them. On Sept. 14, they received a call saying that while they were out on their property, a "reddish" dog had come up to them a few times, before promptly heading back into a ravine.

MISSING DOGS FOUND!!! HOORAY FOR TILLIE...and a HUGE HANKIE ALERT. We are overjoyed to report that after being missing for a week, Tillie and Phoebe are now safe after being found deep in a ravine off monument road - with Phoebe being stuck in an old cistern. VIPP volunteers have been helping search for the dogs and today we received a call from a community member reporting that for the past few days a "reddish" dog had been coming up to them when they were out on their property and then promptly heading back into a ravine. So with a needle in the haystack hope we made our way into the ravine and after a bit of searching, finally heard that sweet sound we have been waiting for all week.

A small one-woof response when we called out "Tillie." A few minutes later we found her laying beside an old cistern with her head resting on the concrete wall. Heart sinking...we knew that meant Phoebe was inside the cistern and every breath was held and every doggie prayer offered that the peek over the rim would somehow find her safe. And gratefully... this time we have a happy ending with dear Phoebe found perched on some concrete rubble that held her out of the water. For nearly a week Tillie stayed by her side with the exception of the few minutes of each day when she went for help. A huge thanks to Joe Curiel for realizing something was up and a round of applause to the awesome and amazing Miss Tillie. A true friend and a humbling example of the power of love.

Camilla Luddington: Amazing Esquire 'Me In My Place' Photoshoot

2011-07-07T00:45:00.000-07:00

Perhaps now most famous for portraying Kate Middleton in the hurriedly assembled and completely craptastic Lifetime movie about the new royal couple just before their wedding, regally hot British actress Camilla Luddington fortunately took the honors of the latest and greatest 'panties in the boudoir' actress to be featured in the amazing Esquire 'Me In My Place' photoshoot.

I'm still not exactly sure all of these sextastic thespianics are actually living in these loft apartments straight out of interior designer magazines, but, I also don't care. What does concern me are sweet cotton-clad asstastic, and flexible hotties in sheer tops and sexy bras. And, this Camilla Luddington pictorial delightfully addresses all of my concerns. Enjoy. Katrina Kaif shot on a nude beach!

2011-07-07T00:42:00.000-07:00

Imagine Katrina Kaif, one of the sexiest ladies of Bollywood, shooting on a nude beach in Spain! Well, don’t carry your imagination further, for Katrina had her clothes on during the shoot.

But the actress says it was quite amusing to be surrounded by a lot of nude people on a beach while shooting for a scene for the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol.

In Katrina’s words, shooting on the nude beach was “funny” and she tried to be “normal about it” and sat in one corner, but the male actors were having a lot of fun and making noises.

The shoot was done for two days at the beach Lloret De Mar, Costa Brava in Spain. However, the shoot did not go without hiccups as the crew had to request the nude people not to enter the camera’s frame while the shots were being taken.

Hope the fun didn’t fizzle out! [Source: allvoices.com]

Andy Murray needs to channel his inner Napoleon Dynamite

2011-06-25T18:08:00.000-07:00

For a long while I considered that the worst job in the history of sport must have been working as 50s middleweight genius Sugar Ray Robinson's accountant. Encouraging fiscal prudence in a man who not only has a hairdresser on standby 24 hours a day but also employs a bloke to whistle during training sessions was clearly a monstrous task – and when your client is more than happy to step in the ring with Jake La Motta there's little hope in simply shouting at him till he does as he's told either.

This month I have had to reconsider. First in response to the news that Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has hired a consultant – the manager of Vampire Weekend no less – to change his bad-boy image, but mainly because, as usual when the Wimbledon juggernaut is rumbling into view, somebody out there seems to have been tasked with convincing the world that Andy Murray is a zany and lovable young pup.

Barton has apparently changed as a person more often than Mystique the shape-shifting mutant from the X-Men, yet such is his ability to set his satnav for destination controversy and floor the accelerator, I'd imagine the easiest, cheapest and quickest method of changing the British public's perception of the Liverpudlian hothead is to pump tons of mescaline into the UK water supply. This would probably result in many people seeing Joey as a 15ft-high, fire-breathing orange reptile, but that would at least be a step in the right direction. It's either that or paying Sepp Blatter to stand next to him all the time – something that is guaranteed to make anyone look like less of a git. Although in the latter case Ratko Mladic's lawyers may already have got there first, obviously.

As to Murray, well, the attempts to make him appear like an adorable eccentric seem even more doomed to stalk that dark parallel world in which the contrived and failed public images of the rich and infamous stumble about seeking redemption with the slow, remorseless stupidity of zombies scenting human flesh – "Oh look there's a contrite and much stronger as a person Tiger Woods. And – over to the left of devoted family man Ryan Giggs – there's another one. And another …"

Michael Jackson's Death, Two Years Later

2011-06-25T18:06:00.000-07:00

Today marks two years since the shocking death of Michael Jackson, and unsurprisingly, controversy surrounding the singer has hardly died down.

In the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, accused of administering the pop icon's fatal dose of meds, the defendant is allegedly maintaining his innocence so adamantly, TMZ reports that Murray wants to refuse any plea offer, including deals with no jail time.

Behind the scenes, Murray's team just won court approval to view hours of outtakes from the MJ documentary 'This Is It.' In gaining access to the top-secret footage, the defense seeks proof that Jackson was unwell in the days before his 2009 cardiac arrest.

As for Jackson's kids, Prince, Paris and Blanket were spotted taking in a movie on Friday. The three are in the care of their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, and reportedly thriving.

And outspoken as always about her family's dramas, 'Celebrity Apprentice' contestant LaToya Jackson has been making the rounds promoting her upcoming book. In 'Starting Over,' she insists Murray is merely the fall guy in a broader conspiracy plot carried out to kill her brother.

"This is definitely something that was premeditated, that they had planned to do, and they planned to take my brother out, and my brother knew it, and that's why my brother told me repeatedly....that this was going to happen to him," she said in a recent interview, according to CBS News. "He explained to me, 'It's because of my catalog.'" (Michael Jackson co-owned the lucrative Sony/ATV catalog, including Beatles music.)

A flock of Michael Jackson devotees are expected at his Las Vegas estate today, which is open to the public in memory of the singer's death. And later this year in Vegas, Cirque du Soleil kicks off 'Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour.' The musical extravaganza "turns his signature moves upside down" using acrobatics to interpret Jackson's legacy, according to Boombox.

Finally, for fans who are flush with cash, Jackson's iconic jacket from his 1983 'Thriller' video goes up for auction this weekend, expected to fetch $400,000 -- a pricey, but personal, piece of nostalgia that truly symbolizes the artist in his finest hour.

Gwyneth Paltrow Provides Etiquette Education

2011-06-25T17:59:00.000-07:00

Gwyneth Paltrow and her security guard drop off her daughter Apple at school in North London on Friday (June 24).

The 38-year-old actress recently gave some etiquette tips in her latest GOOP newsletter.

“Summer is officially here, and for us that means traveling to see loved ones and having loved ones travel to see us,” she wrote. “I had some questions about the etiquette of being a proper houseguest (and some queries about what is polite in this modern era), so I asked the very witty expert on the subject, Derek Blasberg, to guide me in the right direction.”

Chris Martin persuades Beyonce to perform at Glastonbury

2011-06-25T17:56:00.000-07:00

He’s written a couple of pretty good tunes in his time but it looks like there’s something else we should thank Coldplay star Chris Martin for.

I’m told US superstar Beyoncé was reluctant to sign up to playing Glasto because she was worried that her brand of divalicious pop wouldn’t go down well with the hardcore festival crowd, especially after her hubby Jay-Z received a truckload of flak for headlining the festival back in 2008.

But after a few calming words from Chris, he managed to convince his pal that she would have an absolute blast.

Organiser Emily Eavis said: “Chris is a bit wary of people knowing he’s been so involved. I don’t know why because it’s actually cool. Chris is as loyal as they come – he’ll do anything for Glastonbury.

“He’s really an unlikely frontman, most people are a bit more all-consumed with their own thing.”

I’m told Beyoncé plans to throw everything she’s got into tonight’s performance after splashing out on a staggering £100,000 stage show.

Emily added: “Luckily we spoke to Beyoncé before she planned her tour this year, so she managed to put Glastonbury in her schedule, then build a European tour around it.”

There’s an extra-special surprise for Bey and hubby Jay-Z after the no-doubt electrifying set the Destiny’s Child star is set to perform this evening.

Best mates Chris and wife Gwyneth Paltrow are hosting a special celebration party for her after the performance.

My sources tell me Gwynnie has been beavering away for weeks organising the little shindig that will undoubtedly be the must-have party ticket of the weekend.

My backstage source reveals: “It’s being held in a private Winnebago area before a select few head over to the nearby Babington House hotel.

“Gwyneth’s made sure there’s Cristal champagne and Belvedere vodka on tap for the guests.”

Oh, for an invite to that little soirée...

Epic Rap Battles of History 10: Ben Franklin vs Billy Mays

2011-06-25T08:30:00.000-07:00

YouTube has become a place where people can express themselves in many ways; it can be a prank on a friend, a prank on a number of friends or even a soldier dancing like Carlton. There’s even space for NicePeter to carry on making his sketches like the Epic Rap Battles of History 10 which sees Ben Franklin vs Billy Mays.

The Epic Rap Battles have become extremely popular with some of the videos soaring past the 13 million views marker and they certainly aren’t new to us. We have reported on several of them with perhaps my personal favorite being Hulk Hogan vs Kim Hong-Il partly because of the appearance of the Macho Man Randy Savage.

For those of you who perhaps haven’t seen any of the Epic Rap Battles the idea behind them is that after each video, you comment on who you want to see next. NicePeter then checks through the comments and decides on which choice he likes the look of most and then goes ahead and makes a YouTube video.

The latest Epic Rap Battle was added on June 23rd and has managed around 100,000 views already; watch out for this to simply take off. We would like to warn you that some of the language is choice so watch it at your own discretion, as always you can view it at the bottom of the article.

What do you think of the latest Epic Rap Battle of History? Let us know in the comments section below.

2011 NHL Draft Open Thread

2011-06-25T02:00:00.000-07:00

Just a year ago, the Boston Bruins grabbed Tyler Seguin with the second overall draft pick (Thanks, Toronto) (Thanks, Burkie) (Thanks, Kessel).

Tonight they sit a little lower (at 9), but a lot more comfortably, just nine days removed from winning the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 39 years.

Their needs aren't as great and the talent isn't as remarkable, but any draft is an important one in today's NHL.

All 30 teams, including the Winnipeg Jets, are present and accounted for, so let's get this thing started. Edmonton's on the clock.

The disease which is common in women, can develop at any age, and can affect your metabolism and physical appearance.

Peter Falk’s 5 best ‘Columbo’ episodes

2011-06-25T01:49:00.000-07:00

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — With the death of actor Peter Falk this week at the age of 83, it’s a good time to reflect on what the public came to see as his signature role, that of Lt. Columbo.

Interestingly, when “Columbo” series creators Richard Levinson and William Link were seeking an actor to play the role in the TV movie “Prescription: Murder” in 1967, they wanted either Lee J. Cobb or Bing Crosby. Only after those actors turned down the part, and Universal Studios producer Richard Irving suggested Falk, did Levinson and Link agree to hire the then-40-year-old actor. See video montage of Peter Falk’s life.

After one more pilot, “Ransom For a Dead Man” in 1971, “Columbo” became part of “The NBC Mystery Movie,” a fondly remembered rotating series of glossily produced 90-minute to two-hour presentations that included “McMillan and Wife,” “McCloud” and other shows.

Here, then, are the five best “Columbo” episodes. All seven seasons of the original NBC CMCSA -0.55% series are available on DVD from Universal Home Entertainment, in a price range of $15 to $25 each.

1) “A Friend In Deed.” Original airdate: May 5, 1974 — the final episode of the show’s third season.

During “Columbo’s” first season, each episode was 90 minutes long. NBC decided to extend the shows to two hours for the next season, and some of the episodes from 1972-73 show the strain of trying to fit in another half-hour.

By the third season, however, “Columbo’s” show runners had truly mastered the two-hour format. In “A Friend In Deed,” Columbo is presented with his greatest challenge — how to catch a killer who is also his supervisor. Richard Kiley plays Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Halperin, who helps establish an alibi for a rich man, Hugh Caldwell, who has just killed his wife. [Source: marketwatch.com]

Murder, Inc. (1960)
Although this gangster flick received only middling reviews, Falk won heavy praise for his vicious portrayal of Abe Reles, the leader of the titular Brooklyn gang who was believed to be responsible for more than 30 murders. Although it was Falk's first major film role, he earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. Falk described the role in his 2006 autobiography as the role that "made my career."
