The most precious of oils, Sandalwood oil is produced from mainly the heartwood of various species of sandalwood trees, mainly Santalum album (India) and Santalum spicatum (Australia). It is often cited as one of the most expensive woods in the world. Sandalwood plays an important role in many religions throughout the world, especially among people who practice Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Its oil is extracted from the wood of mature trees at least four decades old through steam distillation.

The oil from older trees has a stronger aroma, so older trees are preferred. Because this oil is so popular and the tree grows so slowly, it is endangered in certain parts of the world. I LOVE Indian Sandalwood, but for environmental reasons, I use high grade Australian Sandalwood (and LOVE it too!). Australian Sandalwood, is botanically referred to as Santalum spicatum, (aka Waang and Dutjahn).

Sandalwood offers a wide variety of health benefits, including as an anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antispasmodic, antiseptic, astringent and more. A soothing, cooling disinfectant oil, a must in everyone home. Commercially, manufacturers add it to a variety of personal care and industrial products, including deodorants, soaps, mouth fresheners, lotions, and air fresheners. As a fixative, it helps these products maintain their scent. In perfumery, Sandalwood is used as a base oil to hold a blend together.

Sandalwood oil has a cooling effect that can relieve inflammation in the digestive, excretory, nervous, and circulatory systems. It can counteract the side effects of pharmaceutical antibiotics, fevers, and infections. It is also effective for speeding up wound healing and providing relief from bug bites. It has a refreshing effect on the skin making it useful for relieving irritation caused by environmental pollutants.

Sandalwood eases depression and insomnia, calms nervous tension and stress, & lowers high blood pressure. On the respiratory system it eases laryngitis & bronchitis, & lessens the symptoms of colds, flus and catarrh. Physically it has mild astringent properties giving it the ability to induce contraction in the skin, gums, and muscles. Its effects on tightening the skin allow it to reduce the signs of wrinkles. It is wonderful in the treatment of acne due to its antiseptic and soothing qualities, whilst also showing hydrating qualities. Most helpful in the healing & soothing of psoriasis, eczema, & dermatitis.

Oddly, sandalwood can help with loose teeth because it strengthens the hold of the gums.

Its use in cosmetics and in incense used for religious ceremonies is connected to its disinfectant properties. The fragrance repels small insects. When added to lotions or bath water it prevents wounds from becoming infected.

Sandalwood oil works on the entire energy body, on virtually every organ in a positive way. Interestingly sandalwood contains high levels of sesquiterpenes…These chemical compounds stimulate the pineal gland, creating deep relaxation throughout the nervous system and boosting mental focus. No wonder it is so good for your entire being, making it a good option for enhancing meditation when used in a diffuser or vaporiser, or applied as an anointing oil. It has a sweet woody scent and is excellent for grounding, invoking calmness, and awakening sensuality.

There are no known risks when using sandalwood oil as a topical agent other than it should not be used on the skin at full strength.

CUMIN Cuminum cyminum

CUMIN

Cuminum cyminum

AKA Kammom, Kammun, Jeera

Cumin is not an essential oil that is commonly found in retail aromatherapy ranges and is not particularly enjoyable (in my opinion) to use just for its aroma, which is a spicy, green, warming curry like aroma with punch. it’s a workhorse oil. It’s an amazing energising & grounding oil. Stimulating yet calming on the mind, digestive system & musculoskeletal systems.

Cumin Essential Oil is obtained by extraction from cumin seeds and carries the same therapeutic benefits as raw cumin. Not to be confused with black cumin (aka black seed). Due to its intense and pungent aroma it is best used sparingly in aromatherapy blends and should not be used in dilutes over 0.4% (approximately 8 drops in 100ml of base). Cumin is a popular spice, a member of the parsley family, that has been used for thousands of years and is traditionally reputed to improve immunity, aiding digestion and even weight loss. Cumin is used to improve circulation, lower blood pressure and for detoxification.

Perfumery: Middle Note

Chakra: Solar plexus & throat

Dosha: Balances all three doshas.

Skin & hair care: Regulates sebum production, eliminating acne-causing bacteria, astringent, antiseptic and anti-bacterial, skin toner. Soothes an itchy scalp and improves hair strength & shine.

Mental & Emotional: Helps ground and quiet the mind, bringing feelings of peace and clarity. Enhances mood, reduced feelings of tension & anxiety, improves sleep quality & increases mental alertness & memory. Eases nervous exhaustion.

Physical: Improves circulation, stimulates, calms & improves the entire digestive process

Increases Breastmilk production & regulates menstruation. Increases Thyroid function & aids weight loss. Detoxifying & reduces fluid retention. Pain relief of Rheumatoid arthritis, Rheumatism, Muscular aches and Pains & Migraines.

Eases asthma & soothes coughs.

Action: Antibacterial, Carminative, Digestive, Diuretic, Antiseptic, Anti-spasmodic, Emmenagogue, Nervine, Tonic.

Safety: Considered toxic in aromatherapy, never use on sensitive, hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin, or on mucous membranes, Cumin is photosensitising & must be avoided during pregnancy. Due to cumin being a photosensitiser and dermal irritant it is always recommended to use in a dilution of 0.4% or less. Excess Cumin shows anti-fertility, emmenagogue & mild abortifacient properties.

Here is a simple recipe incorporating Cumin & Rosemary to create a hair treatment serum for strong, healthy beautiful hair.

AKA Mānuka myrtle, New Zealand tea tree, Broom tea-tree, Manuka bush

When people hear you say the word ‘Manuka’ many tend to automatically assume you are referring to Manuka Honey, that’s my experience when teaching my essential oil classes. Manuka honey is well known for its wound health abilities, and is produced when bees collect the manuka tree’s nectar. The essential oil of Manuka with its powerful skin healing abilities is produced via steam distillation of the leaf & twigs. 1 tonne of foliage can produce between 2 to 3 litres of pure manuka oil.

Manuka is part of the same family as tea tree and eucalyptus. Most notably Native to New Zealand, the manuka tree is also native to some parts of Australia. A plant well used in Maori culture, Maori folklore attributes the manuka as being the ‘female’ tree and the kanuka, (another related NZ native) as being the ‘male’ tree. I wonder if it is due to the Kanuka being tall, and the manuka being a short shrub…

A versatile oil, with a warm earthy spicy aroma, manuka offers purification & cleansing on all levels. What a wonderful oil to work with during Spring, a motivator for spring cleaning of our internal and external environments.

Perfumery: Although not commonly used in perfumery, I consider it a Middle note for the purpose of blending. I couldn’t think of a single essential oil you could not blend it with successfully.

Dosha: Balances Kapha- Uplifting and energising

Chakras (Pranic system): Although, as with jasmine and jatamansi I believe that manuka has the ability to affect all chakras positively, the primary chakras are as follows:

Forehead ~ clear & focuses the mind,

Throat ~ calming & clearing,

Spleen ~ energising & strengthening,

Solar plexus ~ gives strength & confidence

Physically manuka, improves energy levels & combats fatigue, relieves coughs and colds, sooths inflammation, and improves muscle and joint pain.

In skincare it is used to treat ringworm, calm insect bites, clear athlete’s foot & acne, heal cuts & wounds. It promotes wound healing through its many actions. Manuka reduces the appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, UV damage & rosacea.

It is protective energetically on the nervous system; calming & stabilising, it balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Energetically & emotionally manuka can help promote feelings of relaxation and dispels depression. You can use manuka essential oil to help ground and centre your energies in preparation for deep meditation or any other activity requiring you to be totally present . Energetically Strengthening & supporting, it is the perfect oil for soft empathic souls.

Cleansing and Clearing, manuka is purifying, odour neutralising, thus the perfect Spring clean motivating aroma when diffused or used in home cleaning solutions, making it a versatile addition to every household.

Actions: Potent Anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, anti-photoaging (UV protective), anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, deodorant and expectorant.

Make your own Cleansing & Clearing Room Spray.

Albert Einstein said it best when he said: “Everything is energy.” It’s true, we literally live in a sea of vibration! Colour, sound, smell & taste all are represented by bands of frequency. All our senses (except smell) receive sensory data from the environment which is transferred through the nervous system to the brain. At the brain level, data is interpreted based on our beliefs.

The sense of smell is received by the receptors in the nose and that signal is transferred to the olfactory bulb which is part of the limbic brain. Because smell goes directly to the brain, it is the brain’s direct link to the environment. Everything is energy, everything has its own signature frequency, be it colour, aroma, sound, food, thoughts... And these frequencies are multidimensional.

Even, and most importantly, water has its own frequency depending on where it comes from, how it is treated, what is said to it. Dr Emoto demonstrated time and again that the frequency of water can be changed easily with the use of words and feelings. Remember that the human body is made up of around 80% water, we can change our frequency easily with thoughts and substances.

At the same time, all dis-ease in the human body has a frequency. The key is to match the frequency of that which you are attempting to heal, with a substance that emits a frequency in the correct direction of healing for you. It sounds simple, yet remembering that every part of the human body has a different frequency, if the body were to be bombarded with just one frequency in the effort to heal an illness in one part of the body, you may well cause disease in another if not applied in a targeted manner. One way to segregate the body to approximate frequency zones is using a Chakra system, I use the Pranic Healing chakra system in my work. In my book “Natural Prescriptions” I give list of essential oils which work best using the PH Chakra system.

As an example, let’s look at the Throat Chakra and the essential oils associated with it.

The Throat chakra controls and is responsible for the Thyroid, Voice box, Trachea, Parathyroid, Lymphatics, Mouth, Saliva Glands, Oesophagus, Carotid Arteries & Shoulders.

Useful essential oils for this area of the body include Angelica, Lavender, Sandalwood, Neroli, Sage, Frankincense, Orange, Basil, Bergamot, German Chamomile, Cypress, Menthol, Peppermint, Spearmint, Cinnamon, Wintergreen, Petitgrain, Immortelle, Manuka, Kunzea, Cumin.

Energetically this chakra is responsible for expression, communication, higher creativity & knowledge and is the “pressure relief valve” for the entire energy body. It is the abyss and is referred to as Daath in the Kabalistic tree. It is the bridge between your higher and lower self. Its colours are blue, violet and green. When other colours are introduced into the throat chakra from other chakras in the body (via thoughts or actions) imbalances to health can occur. A congested solar plexus could introduce incorrect frequency to the throat chakra manifesting an illness such as hyperthyroidism. Depletion of the sex chakra will cause the throat chakra to become partially depleted perhaps creating an illness such as hypothyroidism.

These imbalances can be gently corrected energetically with essential oils applied (correctly diluted) to the throat area (but of course you can see other chakras would need correction also from these simple examples), and of course you could layer the healing with the use of sound, colour and other dimensions of frequency.

How do you choose which essential oil to use? You let your body choose. Which appeals to you, smell them, let your body decide. Just as animals know which herb to eat to make themselves feel better, so we have the ability to do the same. Your body knows what frequency feels best.

For the spiky thing. Pine needle tea is incidentally high in vitamin c.

The pine has a rich history throughout the ages in various ancient traditions. An evergreen, pine symbolised immortality. The ancient Egyptians buried an image of the god Osiris in the hollowed-out centre of a pine tree, perhaps to remember the story of Osiris being thrown into the Nile by his brother Seth and eventually lodging in a pine tree. The Greeks considered pine to symbolise fertility. The Romans the pine was an object of worship during the spring equinox, whilst druids utilised pine to celebrate the winter solstice & the passing of the seasons. The Scottish Gaelic saw Scots pine as a symbol of durability. And today of course we know that the pinecone represents the pineal gland in new and old traditions and teachings, a symbol of human enlightenment, resurrection, eternal life and regeneration. The pine tree and its parts have always been an important facet of ancient life, and I have touched on just a few traditions.

For lung and sinus congestion, simply add a few drops of pine to a warm to hot bowl of water and inhale (best with a towel over your head) or mix 20 drops of pine into 30 grams of ointment base or shea butter. Apply as needed.

For full body pain relief mix 60 drops pf pine with half a cup of castile liquid soap and pour into a warm bath.

To use as needed anywhere, add 9 drops of pine into a 10ml remedy roller bottle full of jojoba oil. Apply to sore joints, cuts, your temples to relieve nervous tension.

What does the TGA want? Domination of health.

Who are the TGA? Interesting question. TGA stands for the Therapeutic Goods Administration... what they are, is an "arm" of the government that clamps down on anyone giving health advise or selling health products that doesn't pay the ferryman. They aren't actually part fo the government, but they try to look like they are (like councils do, smoke and mirrors) They are predominantly funded by sponsors AKA the pharmaceutical industry. I'm not making this up. So the people that get all the easy approvals, are the people paying the bills. It kind of operates like gangsters walking the street collecting protection money.... you don't pay for protection (licensing), you're business burns down.

I'm not some random conspiracy theorist (I AM a conspiracy researcher, if it doesn't add up, I want to know why???)

I HAVE witnessed with my own eyes the crushing of anyone giving healing options to those in need. Over and over again. I don't understand why one human can't go to another and have a private conversation about their health problems and receive help without TGA approval. You certainly won't be busy helping anyone as a natural therapist unless your WOM is impeccable and people have valued your assistance in the past.

This week, everyone wants to know why I substituted greater celandine for bloodroot in our Four herb products... some have been quite pushy and I suspect are from the TGA. I'm not going to disclose my recipe creation methods, except to say, my methods of selection are unlike most others. I use a combination of 20 hyears of experience in health, intuition, bioresonance testing ( a dirty word in the TGA), personal testing and other methods to come up with my recipes and remedies.

I'm NOT allowed to make a claim on anything, and I don't... but some seem to want to drag a claim out of me. It doesn't take much to be caught out making a claim by accident, it's very very easy to make someone slip up and unintentionally make a claim. When I feel, like someone is using solicitor techniques on my, ie... asking the same question several ways until an answer is gleaned, I get suspicious. If someone specifically asks to me to provide evidence (that I know to be required of the TGA to issues an infringement)

I don't meant to offend anyone, but if I am asked the same question repeatedly with no good reason, the conversation will be over. If you give me a spiel about a relative with cancer or with a detailed diagnosis data, I will shut the conversation down. If you insist I say what a specific herb will do, or insist I give you a link to a website detailing it, you guessed it, the conversation is over. The simple act of making a product wth an ingredient in question, then giving a link to the relevant ingredients giving a claim is, you guessed it, technically making a claim and an offence. Even a verified review placed on our website by a happy customer making a claim about a product, can land us in hot tea. The last TGA I was forced to delete or edit most customer reviews on my website... these were legitamate reviews of people that were feeling better.

Mandarin Essential Oil, The Children's Remedy

Botanical name - Citrus reticulate

Mandarin is a delicious & versatile easy to work with essential oil that should be in every budding aroma hobbyist’s kit (and every professional’s kit too!).

An excellent choice for children, the fragile and the elderly, mandarin is a very safe oil to use for all the family (when used correctly). Mandarin is sometimes referred to as "The Children's Remedy" and relieves colic and tummy upsets in little ones.

A very detoxifying oil, mandarin helps to reduce cellulite and fluid retention and tones loose skin. It is beneficial for mature skin, but also for acne, congested and oily skin. Mandarin may assist in the preventing/reduction of stretch marks and scars.

I consider mandarin to be an excellent oil to be used on the following major chakras:

Heart (serving the physical Heart, Thymus Gland, Lungs & Arms),

Solar plexus (serving the Gastrointestinal System, Lower Emotions, Diaphragm, Pancreas, Liver & Stomach.) &

Meng Mein (serving the Kidneys, Adrenals & Blood pressure)

…although it is still useful when working with other chakras.

As a Pitta dosha oil, Mandarin is cooling & soothing on the mind, body & emotions, and relieves stress and depression with its joyful fun energy. Useful for digestive issues, due to it’s tonic and stimulant effect on the stomach and liver and a calming effect on the intestines, calming diarrhoea and flatulence. Use as a sedative for insomnia, irritability, restlessness, stress and nervous tension. Mandarin is also useful in the management of asthma.

In perfumery it is regarded as a top note, meaning that in order to get the best out of it, you’ll need to pair it with a middle (i.e. lavender) and base note (i.e. sandalwood), knowing that as a top note, the top note is the introduction of the perfume on the wearer, and will soon dissipate leaving the middle and base note to carry the fragrance. This particular example would enhance mandarin’s calming cooling nature and create a beautiful heart centred perfume. Of course, there are many middle and base notes to choose from, and it will all depend on your personal preference, the aroma you are attempting to create, any contraindication of pairing oils to consider, and of course the properties you are enhancing with your combination. Mandarin is a citrus oil, but not phototoxic, so that’s one big plus of choosing it when needing a citrus in a perfume.

To use safely, follow the following dilution scale:

0.5-1%

Here are 3 Calming diffuser recipes to try at home:

3 drops Mandarin

2 drops Clary sage

1 drop Rose

The chemical that gives these berries their red color is called anthocyanin. By drinking the tea up to three times a day, you can reduce your symptoms of arthritis and joint pain.

Raspberry is high in potassium, B vitamins, and magnesium which make it useful for leg cramps, insomnia, and nausea. By combining the nutrients in the leaf and berries, the female reproductive system can greatly benefit. The leaf is also said to lead to shorter and less painful labors.

Native Americans have been using raspberry extract for thousands of years as tea to strengthen the uterus of pregnant women. You can even keep this tonic in the fridge if you prefer cold tea. For a stronger infusion, leave the mixture of herbs and water overnight in a glass jar. Drink three times a day for no longer than 4 months.

You can also make a tincture using the same mixture. This is highly beneficial for using on skin or as a more concentrated form for internal purposes to help relieve premenstrual symptoms and heavy bleeding. Plant Essentials Raspberry Leaf herb is organically grown in Croatia.

JATAMANSI ~ Nardostachys jatamansi

AKA Spikenard, Nard, Bhootkeshi

One of the very few essential oils that has a positive effect on all the entire human chakra system and balancing on all doshas (referred to as tridosha), this amazing earthy oil is a must in every basic essential oil kit. Jatamansi (Jata means dreadlocks, and Mansi means human) is commonly found in parts of India, China and Tibet and is part of the valerian family. A sacred plant, an adaptogen, with its earthy, fresh dirty root like aroma (mmm) is clearly not everyone’s cup of tea in fragrance, but really is a must have when you understand it’s breadth of usage. And when your body reaps the benefits, over time you will crave its unique smell.

It’s another of my favourite essential oils (also available in dried herb form for internal use), having a positive effect on the Nerves, Mind, Intestine, Uterus, Heart, Kidneys & Skin. Ayurvedic texts show it has the following potential actions: Neuroprotective, Anti-stress, Anti-depressant, Anti-seizure (Anticonvulsant), Antispasmodic, Anti-inflammatory, Antihypertensive, Deodorant, Antibacterial, Antifungal, Carminative & Stomachic, Anti-histaminic, Heart Tonic, and Mild Diuretic & Laxative.

My main interest in Nard lay in it’s Heart and Mind tonic features specifically. Something everyone could benefit from in the current state of the earth. Cognitively enhancing, and a wonderful heart tonic, it feels to me that jatamansi heals the most important parts of us, the most energetic parts our heart and minds. These two parts of us actually contain the largest portion of mitochondria in our body, and create the largest electromagnetic field of all the parts of our body.., I’m sure many energy healers would agree in the exponential potential for multidimensional healing, with focus on these two areas.

The last two years have pushed our emotions and resilience into overdrive, leaving us all requiring a very special kind of adaptogen…is it jatamansi? I think so. Soothing anxiety and fear, calming overactive minds, cooling every aspect of ourselves, helping us stay in the now and not burdening our hearts and minds with the possibilities of where we as a society are travelling. Not to say we should be ignoring what our futures hold, but that we need to give ourselves time to live where we are now, while we have lost control, it helps us feel centred, able to cope & buddha like. To travel through this great awakening, a place that could feel like a cyclone depending on your perspective, it’s nice to be able to sit in the centre and observe, preparing, but not worrying about the next step. Perhaps the earthy, grounded, nurturing, calming nature of jatamansi is where we as a community are headed… toiling the earth, tending our food gardens, teaching our children the way of the new earth. Living in the now and enjoying it.

Of recent, we have seen many clients with heart and mind related injuries coming into the store for guidance (if you know where I am going with this). It occurred to me writing this article, that this could be the missing, healing link. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me before?.

Turpentine. When I speak about this fabulous little critter in my Beginner Aromatherapy classes, I’m always faced with odd looks, what… Turps? Essential oil?? Yes Turps.

Also known as Essential oil of Turpentine, spirits of turpentine, pine tree terpenic, pine oleoresin, gum turpentine, terpenes oil or turpentine from Bordeaux.

Turpentine, is the distilled resin of several variety of living pine tree, produced in many countries around the globe. In Australia, it can be distilled from Eucalyptus. When you go to the hardware store, you’ll find “Mineral” Turpentine”, and “Pure Gum” Turpentine, the later is from plant matter, all be it an industrial grade, the former a toxic petrochemical.

The aroma of turpentine essential is quite a sweet, fruity, lolly like fragrance, and I find in perfumery blending, that is serves well as a top note. In the making of space cleansing sprays, it adds a light & airy, yet powerful element to cleansing negative energy from a space, whilst uplifting the spirits of those in the area. I have many favourite essential oils, but I have to say, turpentine, certainly is one of my absolute go-tos, and still fascinates me to this day. There are many more uses & nuances of turpentine that I am not able to go into in this space, suffice to say, there is a powerful connection to explore between turpentine, DMSO & Reishi mushrooms.

Useful in the treatment of cellulite, I discovered through my usual scientific method of N=1 just how quickly turpentine can move on stagnant blood, via dilating the capillaries, bringing fresh blood flow to every part of the body requiring it. Cold, stagnant areas of the body, and orange peel skin quickly smooths out and warms. That is the power of turpentine. My research led me, to find, that turpentine baths are quite a popular thing in Russian Spas for the purpose of altering blood pressure and detoxification, depending on the method (emulsion) of use.

The eminent doctors of antiquity, Hippocrates, Dioscoride or Galien, used the terpenic oil for its properties against lung diseases and biliary lithiasis. Since those early times, many other eminent doctors have found a variety of purposes for which to apply the miracle of turpentine.

Modern aromatherapy describes the following properties of turpentine oil: antiparasitic, analgesic, revulsive, disinfectant, balsamic, active on bronchial secretion and pulmonary and genito-urinary tract infections, haemostatic, dissolving gallstones, diuretic, antispasmodic, antirheumatic, deworming, being an antidote for poisonings caused by phosphorus.

Moving to America and we’ll find an interesting doctor, Jennifer Daniels, telling of turpentine used as a folk remedy amongst plantation slaves. Every 6 months or so, the poor families would use turpentine, a cheap and accessible product, as a kind of rejuvenation tonic, clearing and cleansing the body of unwanted parasites and ills. There are modern protocols for the use of turpentine in ridding the body of stubborn parasite infestations. I’m not recommending you do this; I’m simply pointing out turpentines multifaceted life.

How To Create A Simple Turpentine Cellulite Bath:

Add 5ml of turpentine essential oil to 50ml of castile liquid soap. Run the bath ensuring you keep the temperature control to as close to body temperature as possible. Add the turpentine mix, swish and then step into the bath immersing your entire body from neck down. Stay in the water, as long as you can. You will feel warmth, a slight burning feel to your skin, and an increasing itch, fear not, this is your circulation, finally allowing fresh blood to reach areas of your body, long forgotten. You will sweat, this is a great indication the turpentine bath is working! Stay in the water for as long as you can (or want). Once you are done, step out of the bath, dry yourself, but do not rinse off (unless you must). Put on a bath robe, and now the fun begins. Keep moving, stretching and bouncing for as long as you need to, to avoid scratching.

Eventually, you will feel able to sit still. Your done, go rinse off, be sure to take in a good amount of hydration and relax. You’ll notice that only the areas that itched and burned, were the areas of your body that felt cold, congested or had cellulite. If you feel able, repeat in a week, and you will find long lasting benefits. As always, there are other things you can do to assist the process such as diet improvements, body brushing, drinking lots of pure water etc …

Now, the method in the spas is a little different as far as starting with less turpentine, and staying in the water for a very short time, building the strength of the essential oil, and time spent slowly over many days. I’m not one to waste water.

BATH NOTE: A burning sensation is felt under the skin for up to an hour after the treatment, which can be quite uncomfortable. If nervous, start smaller than what I have stated.

Possible Uses:

SKIN & LYMPH: Skin whitening, clears cellulite, clears accumulated toxins

BLOOD: Increases circulation, may increase or decrease blood pressure (depending on ingredients added to it).

DIGESTIVE: clears constipation, energises a sluggish digestive system,

URINARY: Clears cystitis, antiseptic, diuretic.

MUSCULOSKELETAL/NERVES: Gives relief to gout, arthritic, rheumatic or neuralgic pain.

RESPIRATORY/IMMUNE: Cold & flu relief, sore throat, nasal congestion.

ENERGETICALLY: Clearing, cleansing, uplifting, purifying.

General Safety:

Do not use on mucous membrane for persons with sensitive skin, may irritate the skin when used in bath or massage do not use at all on anyone who is known to have sensitive skin or who is susceptible to skin reactions.

Bicarb is such such a simple ingredient that we use every day at Plant Essentials.

Also known as Sodium Bicarbonate & Bicarbonate soda, bi-carb is a powerhouse of a product which is cheap, non-toxic and kind to the environment, and is the answer to all your household and beauty needs.

Deodorise a space

Fill a contain with bi carb, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil if you desire. You can leave the container open, or put a lid on it with some holes punched in. A great way to deodorise a cupboard or your fridge.

Fruit and vegetable scrub

Clean dirt and residue off fresh fruit and vegetables, just sprinkle a little bi-carb on a clean cloth or vegetable brush. Scrub and rinse.

Clean cleaning cloths & sponges

Clean dirty, smelly sponges and cloths -- remove odours from sponges by soaking overnight in bi-carb solution.

Cleaning your Oven

Sprinkle bi carb over your oven door and then spray it with a bottle filled with vinegar or water and citric acid. The reaction will life cooking spills. Wipe over with a clean cloth.

Stainless steel Pots and Pans

Cleaning stainless steel appliances and sinks -- rub stainless steel with a moist cloth and dry bi-carb to shine. Rinse and dry.

Carpet deodoriser

To eliminate pet & other odours, sprinkle a handful of bi-carb onto your carpets, leave for 20 minutes and then vacuum. You can rub some essential oil through the bi carb before doing this to add a wonderful aroma. Think Lavender, Lemon or Geranium! (Be sure not to use an essential oil that has strong colour such as etiver or Myrrh.

Bathroom cleaner

Mix bi-carb with water to a paste, to scrub into grout with a sponge or toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly. Clean the bath tub -- sprinkle bi-carb on a clean, damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. Sometimes I clean with vinegar first.

Clean Quartz crystals

You won't want to do this with all of your crystal collection, but you can do it with Quartz that has hard to clean corners or a rough texture that dust easily gets stuck in (This includes Amethyst, Citrine, Carnelian, Smokey Quartz etc - but be sure it's Quartz) Put your crystals in a bowl of clean water, sprinkle citric acid, then sprinkle bi carb. Watch all the dust dirt and grime lift. Rinse with clean water and let dry.

Beauty Regime

Mix some bicarb with distilled or purified water into a paste and use as a face or body exfoliation. Follow with your favourite moisturiser or serum.

Skincare Production - deodorant paste recipe included

We use Bi carb for a few purposes in our skincare making process. It's a fantastic base ingredient to make super effective deodorants, and we use it to adjust the PH of some of the products we make. Here is a simple deodorant paste recipe you can make at home:
