It seems like it was good thing the bridges were kept intact, as a few new games with familiar characters look pretty promising. Do Street Fighter, Golden Axe, Bionic Commando, Commando, Tecmo Bowl, and Super Mario ring any bells?

Street Fighter IV
I am not sure if it's possible but Street Fighter almost left the video game world's collective conscience when the last Street Fighter II machines were wheeled out of the world's arcades. Yes there was a Street Fighter III, but it ran into the slump that is usually reserved for sophomore sequels. The fourth iteration may very well be a classic in the making in its own right. It's similar to previous Street Fighters in that the game plays in the familiar 2 dimensional, face to face fighting style. Where the game shines is the addition of 3 dimensional graphics backed by a decade of technological improvements. This is the beauty of the game, joining the old with the new. Capcom also announced the return from retirement of your old fighting buddies Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Dhalsim. Check this one out as soon as possible. In the mean time Capcom's trailer for the game is a must see.

Other Classics Returning (w/ approximate release dates per EGM)
Golden Axe: Beast Rider (personal fave) - PS3 & XBox 360 - Summer '08
Bionic Commando - PS3 & Xbox 360 - Sometime '08
Commando 3 - XBL Arcade & PSN Store - January '08
Tecmo Bowl (personal fave) - PS3 & Xbox 360 - Summer '08

EGM Reviews Summary
This month's winner was Super Mario Galaxy. If it wasn't for Jeremy who gave Super Mario Galaxy a 9.5, Mario would have had a Platinum Award to place on his mantle as well. Which means Shoe and Shane gave Super Mario Galaxy a 10, for those of you who don't know EGM's rating system. Jeremy, who obviously is jealous of Mario and his fame, robbed the poor man of what he deserves. He was annoyed by a few lapses of the camera controls and the coin collection stages after the game is won.

Other games rated include:
Nights: Journey of Dreams (Wii, Sonic Team) - 7.2 Avg., 7.5 High, 7.0 Low
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii, Cavia) - 7.0 Avg., 7.5 High, 6.0 Low
Soulcalibur Legends (Wii, Namco) - 5.8 Avg., 7.0 High, 4.5 Low
Trauma Center: New Blood (Wii, Atlus) - 5.0 Avg., 6.0 High, 4.0 Low
Assassin's Creed (PS3/XBox360, Ubisoft Montreal) - 5.8 Avg., 7.0 High, 4.5 Low
NCAA College Hoops 2K8 (PS3/XBox360, Visual Concepts) - 7.2 Avg., 7.5 High, 7.0 Low
NCAA March Madness '08 (PS3/XBox360, EA Canada) - 6.7 Avg., 7.5 High, 6.0 Low
Rock Band (PS3/XBox360, Harmonix) - 9.2 Avg., 9.5 High, 9.0 Low
MX vs. ATV: Untamed (PS3/XBox360) - 6.0 Avg., 7.0 High, 5.0 Low
Time Crisis 4 (PS3, Namco Bandai) - 3.7 Avg., 4.0 High, 3.5 Low
Mario Party DS (DS, Hudson Soft) - 6.5 Avg., 6.5 High, 6.5 Low
Socom: US Navy Seals Tactical Strike - (PSP, Slant Six) - 6.3 Avg., 6.5 High, 6.0 Low

Check Out My Video Game Channel on Squidoo

This is a Squidoo Lens that shows videos from YouTube that are video game related. In this edition, EGM reviews some of the latest games just in time for the holiday season. They also touch on the reasons behind delays of some much anticipated games.

The competion was tough in this month's reviews. There was actually a tie for Game of the Month between Mass Effect (XBox 360, BioWare) and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (XBox 360/PS3, Infinity Ward). Mass Effect received an average rating of 9.2/10, a high of 9.5, and a low of 9; while COD4 also pulled in an average of 9.2 and a high of 9.5 but was "dinged" with an 8.5 from Crispin. His main beef was with the "tin-duck mentality" of the enemy who seem to peep their head out without any thought and in the same spot every time throughout the battle field.

Other games rated include:
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games (Wii, Sega) - 6.3 Avg., 7.0 High, 6.0 Low
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (Wii, Kuju) - 8.0 Avg., 8.5 High, 7.0 Low
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii, Intelligent Systems) - 8.8 Avg., 9.0 High, 8.5 Low
Need for Speed: Prostreet (PS3/XBox 360, EA Black Box) - 7.7 Avg., 8.5 High, 7.0 Low
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground (PS3/XBox 360, Neversoft) - 6.5 Avg., 7.5 High, 5.5 Low
Manhunt 2 (Wii/PS2, Rockstar Toronto) - 5.3 Avg., 7.0 High, 4.0 Low
Blacksite: Area 51 (XBox 360/PS3, Midway Austin) - 5.7 Avg., 6.0 High, 5.0 Low
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (XBox 360, IO) - 7.2 Avg., 7.5 High, 7.0 Low
Uncharted: Drakes's Fortune (Playstation 3, Naughty Dog) - 8.5 Avg., 8.5 High, 8.5 Low
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (XBox 360, Ubisoft Montreal) - 6.7 Avg., 8.0 High, 5.5 Low
Timeshift (XB360, Saber) - 5.7 Avg., 6.0 High, 5.5 Low
Contra 4 (DS, WayForward) - 7.8 Avg., 8.0 high, 7.5 Low
Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends (DS, Office Create) - 7.5 Avg., 7.5 High, 7.5 Low
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (DS, Think & Feel) - 7.2 Avg., 8.0 High, 6.0 Low
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus (PSP, Kojima Productions) - 7.3 Avg., 7.5 High, 7.0 Low

As for games that unfortunately are not going to be released this year, here are the latest expectations from EGM (let's hope they are worth the wait):
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo) - February 2008
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3, Konami) - March 2008
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii/PS3/XBox 360, LucasArts) - Spring 2008
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (PS3/XBox360, Ubisoft) - Spring 2008
Burnout: Paradise (PS3/XBox360, EA Games) - Spring 2008
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3/XBox 360, Rockstar) - March 2008
SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3, Sony CEA) - Spring 2008
Too Human (XBox 360, Microsoft Game Studios) - March 2008
Indiana Jones (PS3/XBox 360, LucasArts) - Summer 2008
Splinter Cell: Conviction (XB360, Ubisoft) - Spring 2008
Home (PS3, Sony CEA) - Spring 2008
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (PS3/XB360, EA Games) - Spring 2008

That's it for now. No not Christmas and Hanukkah... well yes that too. I mean the annual Video Game Awards (aka VGAs). The event five years running where the video game industry's highest fliers are recognized for their contributions to the incredibly dynamic, progressive, technology boundary pushing world of gaming. The event is planned to run on Sunday, December 9th on Spike TV at 9pm EDT/11pm PDT.

To top it off, Samuel L Jackson will be hosting the event for the third consecutive year. New game cameos are supposed to be made by Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (Sony), DLC Halo 3 Maps (Microsoft), Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Ubisoft), Borderlands (2K), and TNA iMPACT! (midway), to name a few. Human cameos are supposed to include beauties Tia Carrera and Tila Tequila, UFC fighters Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin, funny-men Steve-O, Patton Oswalt, and Brian Posehn, and the spectacularistic closet video game lover Don King.

Also very cool this year, viewers will be able to determine the winner of the "Most Addictive Game" award by placing their votes at http://www.vga.spiketv.com. Voting ends Saturday night before it airs.

For You Kids Growing Up With XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Playstation 3.

You have to try these classic video games!!!
