I’ve been a proponent for a long time of scrapping the name “press release” entirely in favor of the more accurate term, “news release”, considering the fact that what passes for effective PR these days is increasingly bypassing the gatekeepers entirely to speak directly to the end user.

According to the terrifically insightful book, The New Rules of PR & Marketing:

“Millions of people read press releases directly, unfiltered by the media. You need to be speaking directly to them!” 

As the NY Times article clearly points out, the days of lazy, unfocused, throw-out-a-bunch-of-stuff-and-see-what-sticks days of public relations are over.

Now more than ever, it’s about feeding the influencers content they’re interested in that will have relevancy to their respective audiences, combined with distributing content directly to the audiences that will consume it.

To me it’s a little like the Reese’s Peanut Butter cup:   Is my blogging mixed in with my tweeting or is my tweeting mixed in with my blogging?

In the end, who cares?  The point is that the continued convergence of Web 2.0 tools and the content they share enable web publishers to find ever more effective and easy ways for disseminating messages across multiple platforms with the click of a button.

In practical terms for Samson Media, when I write a single article on my blog, it automatically generates an RSS feed that gets send out to my RSS subscribers, automatically sends itself to the blog plugin in my LinkedIn account and now can be posted on Twitter with the click of a single button without ever leaving the original page. 

Is this “broadcasting” for the new millenium?  Or narrowcasting?  Whichever, it sures allows me to easily leverage my content across multiple platforms and reach hundreds of people quickly, easily and for free.  Check it out!

Samson Media launched an all-new website aimed at Fresh Water Aquarium enthusiasts.  The new site, named www.aquarium-keepers.com, the fully optimized site built on the Wordpress platform, is aimed at attracting search engine traffic to the keyword content and then generating passive income streams that include ebooks sold on Clickbank, clicks on Google Adwords ads and commissions generated through related affiliate programs via Commission Junction. 

The site also includes an automated lead generating email marketing system that offers a 10-part mini-course as a means to upsell the $20 ebook.

The design was developed for Samson Media by Creative Mind Consulting Group, of Montclair, NJ.

Which is no small feat considering there are 27, 200,000 results for that phrase.  You read correctly —27 MILLION.

Well, I’m happy to say that as of this writing, Samson Media is now number two after the local business listings (Click HERE to see) for “website designers new jersey“.  And that’s not all!

Take off the “s” and make it “”website designer new jersey” and we’re now a solid number two ABOVE the local business listings (click HERE to see).  And that’s with over 40 million results!

And check out “email marketing new jersey“.  Yup, that’s us sitting up there at number one on Google with over 24 million results.  Not too shabby.  Not too shabby, indeed.

Ah, The Good Ol' Days.

Opened up the Saturday New York Times today with my morning coffee to get the not-so-latest news.

Granted. Saturday is usually a thin day for the Gray Lady.

But I was amazed when I realized, and then counted, that between the entire business section AND the entire sports section there was not a single ad of any kind. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

This seems proof of three things:

Underlining point number 3 is the fact that more than ever, small and medium-sized businesses that want to not only survive but thrive, need to check their outdated assumptions of sales and marketing at the door about how best to reach people who are interested in their products and services.

Because while I LOVE reading the New York Times, I would never advertise in it nor recommend advertising in it, or any other newspaper, to any of our clients. It’s just too passive and prone to happenstance. You have to hope that the day your ad runs, the potential prospects who may possibly need what you have to offer just happen to see your ad. If not, Oh well! Another bird cage lined. Another fish wrapped. Another puppy potty training on your expensive ad.

To that end, I say this to any and all businesses, large and small and everything in between: Wake up and smell the coffee people! Adapt or perish.
