I know there are a lot of new CTMH Consultants out there, so I created this video to help my new team members and any of you who might benefit.

In this video I'll show you how to create a card using supplies that come/came in your Spring/Summer 2012 New Consultant Kit. Bear with the length, because I wanted to show the basics from start to finish. I hope you learn a thing or two!

I added a couple ink colors, but in the video I explain that you can easily omit the tulip and sunset if you don't have them, and only use the Cocoa, Lagoon, and Olive that come in the kit.

CTMH Florentine + Hooray Bouquet Thank You Card

I just can't get enough of the Hooray Bouquet stamp set right now. I love how all the flowers from the set not only coordinate with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge, but they layer so beautifully.

For this card I cut out the 3 sizes of flowers on my Cricut (1-1/4", 2", 2-3/4"), then I stamped the largest and smallest with the Hooray Bouquet flowers to add some interest. I wanted to showcase the beautiful patterns from the Florentine paper pack so I cut them in strips for the background of the card. The swirl stamp is from the You and Me stamp set (retired), and the lacy border is from a Martha Stewart border punch.

I created a very similar card (from this post) with the Stella paper pack. The paper in CTMH's paper packs coordinates so well together and I love it all so I like to display several of the patterns in my cards! :)

Blinged Out Flower Pot Mother's Day Card Using CTMH Stella

Today I'm sharing a special card I made for my mom for Mother's Day, and while I'm at it, I'm entering it into Heart2Heart's challenge this week. I haven't played along with H2H in a while, and this week the challenge is to share something created for mom. My mom is a florist so I almost always make things for her that involve flowers. (Mom, if you're reading this...don't look any farther til after Mother's Day!) :)

This year she gets a whole pot of blinged out flowers! She's like me—we both LOVE us some bling! This card was inspired by one I saw on the Scrapbooks, etc website by Tracy Kyle (via Pinterest). My version uses 3 different flowers cut on the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge in various sizes. I just love that cartridge...it has everything!

The flowers lift out of the pot to reveal your message.

Look at all that bling...oooooh, so pretty! I used a combination of bling buttons and rhinestone designer brads from CTMH. For the brads, I snipped off the brad part with some pliers so I was left with just the top rhinestones, and adhered them with glue dots. It's pretty top-heavy, so be sure you're working with heavy cardstock-weight paper like CTMH's, and you may want some extra layers for reinforcement.

The paper I used is from CTMH's Stella Paper pack. One of the things I love most about CTMH is how everything coordinates perfectly. I have 6 different patterns to work with from one paper pack and they all coordinate together beautifully.

Altered $1 Frame for Mother's Day (or Anytime) with CTMH Stella

Happy National Scrapbooking Day, everyone! I hope you're doing something crafty today. I will be doing a little crafting for some Etsy orders tonight, but my husband and I have good friends in town this weekend from SoCal, so we'll be doing some sightseeing most of the day.

But I still have a project to share with you! Here's a cute little frame I made for my Mother's Day workshop using one of the $1 unfinished frames from Michael's craft store. I was inspired by the one Kelly English-Triggs made here. I just loved her style so I put my spin on it with the Stella paper pack from CTMH.

Lots of fun embellishments going on with this frame (I'm an embellishment lover). I used the Love Life stamp set for the swirl and "Live. Laugh. Love." sentiment. I love the fun swirls and background stamps in this set, plus some all-purpose shapes and sentiments. Other embellishments include a bling button, color-ready garden wooden shape, paradise paper flower, heart cut from the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge, and that fabulous pinwheel made from just a strip of paper.

To create the pinwheel I cut a 12" strip of paper at 1-1/2" and used a Martha Stewart border punch on one side to get the lacy edge. Then I scored it every 1/4" on my Martha Stewart score board, accordion-folded it, and glued the 2 edges together. To turn it into a pinwheel, I bunched together the non-lacy side and pushed it down flatten it into a pinwheel and hot-glued it to a smaller circle. Make sense? Baby Boy Name Frame for Max: New Style!

I've been a busy crafting bee lately so I have a lot to share with you in the coming weeks!

As you probably know, this {What's in a Frame} nursery decor is one of my favorite types of projects! I recently had an order from my Etsy shop for a baby boy named Max. Well, this short name didn't look good in the design I normally use for my name frames. So I pondered for a while and finally came up with this new design.

I just love how it turned out! If your baby's name is longer but you like this style, I could use initials instead.

Here's a close up of those darling pennants. I used my Cricut with the Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out the pennant shapes with CTMH Pacifica cardstock. That cute little beaver is cut out from the DCWV Green mat stack.

The tree and plaid-leaf paper is also from that paper stack. The green hexagon paper is from CTMH's new Lucy paper pack and the light blue paper is from the retired Caboodle paper pack.

I also used a lot of fun CTMH embellishments. I'm an embellishment hoarder, I must admit. I LOVE embellishments, and especially with all the frames I design, I like to have a wide variety because I never know what I'll need at my fingertips.

In this frame you'll find some mocha opaques, durables round studs, milepost shapes, and buttons from the Basic assortment and Blues assortment. (I love all the fun designs in Close to my Heart's buttons...and at $5.95 for 72 designer buttons, it's a great value!)

Pemberley & Hooray Bouquet Thank You Cards

Do you have some scrapbook paper that you love so much that you don't want to cut into it? You know, the paper you keep holding onto but never using because it's too pretty.

That's how I feel with this floral print from CTMH's Pemberley paper pack. I must admit, I get a major fail on the credit for this card design. Not giving proper credit is one of my biggest pet peeves...I thought I had pinned my inspiration card to Pinterest to find later, but I've just searched for longer than I care to admit, and to no avail! So please, if you've seen this design around, let me know whose it is. (It wasn't CTMH.)

Ok back to the card. When I saw the card that inspired this one, I thought it would be perfect to use with this paper since it uses one big piece. So once I saw the card, naturally I stopped everything and went to recreate my own!

I cut the flower shapes on my Cricut with CTMH's Art Philosophy cartridge, then stamped with the coordinating Hooray Bouquet stamp set (one of my favorites...it's so versatile!). The pretty resin flower from the Bouquet Assortment makes a pretty little flower center.

I made a few cards from the Pemberley paper pack. The card base is 4" wide instead of 4-1/4" because that way the little border that hangs off makes to total width 4-1/4". By making it 4" wide that also helps you get more card bases out of your 12"x12" paper! Don't you love that CTMH's paper comes with zip strips now? The 1/2" Outdoor Denim border is the zip strip from one of the Pemberley papers.

I used a Designer Rhinestone brad in the center of one of the flowers...it also adds a nice touch. I'm such a bling girl!

I hope I've inspired you to cut into some of that paper you've been hoarding. Try out this card style...it will showcase it much better than being shut away in your paper organizer :)

Highlight of Your Day: Scrapbook Layout with CTMH Elemental & Cork Alphabet

I shared this layout a while ago at my Design Team submission on the Practical Scrappers blog, but I forgot to share it here.

Just look at my nephew's big beautiful eyes! What a cutie! I don't know how well you can see it, but his face is covered in highlighter. I was *supposed* to be watching him, but I got sidetracked and he was being awfully quiet. I turned around just minutes after he was out of my sight only to find that he was getting artistic with a highlighter. That's my boy!

I laughed so hard I had to take a picture. If you click the photo you can see it larger.

The paper used is Elemental. Lots of fun graphic patterns in that paper pack. I also used some Outdoor Denim and Cranberry cardstock. I stamped the (retired) Noted Backgrounds stamp set on the cranberry cardstock for added texture. And I used CTMH's color-ready cork alphabet for my title, paired with the A Typeface stamp set. I left my cork letters plain, but they accept ink very well so you can turn them any color you want with a sponge dauber and a CTMH ink pad of your choice!

The A Typeface stamp set is only $6.95 and is a must-have set, in my opinion. It's a great font and great size for layouts like this, cards, and lots of other paper crafting projects!

DIY Burlap Magnets

Happy Monday! Today I'm sharing some magnets I created as a gift. I found this fun printed burlap at a local specialty paper store called Paper Zone (which is unfortunately out of business now).

I used some clear decorative stones I found in the floral section at my local craft store. I adhered the burlap to the stones with a generous amount of Mod Podge. Once it dried, I adhered a white piece of cardstock of the same size to the back of the burlap with more Mod Podge. (Since the burlap has holes, I didn't want to be able to see through it.) Then I added more Mod Podge to seal it all up.

Once everything was dry I added a small button magnet to the back with some hot glue. And there you have it, a fun set of burlap magnets!

Time to Get Creative!

Free up some time for your creative outlet

If someone asked you to explain what a hobby is, you’d probably explain it as something you enjoy doing in your free time, right? But nowadays, when jobs, family, school, friends, sporting events, church, and other group activities make so many demands on our time, there are days when it feels like it is all we can do to squeeze in the necessary things like eating, sleeping, showering, and a couple of quick chores around the house. So what do we mean when we talk about supposedly “free” time?

No matter how busy we get, we can always manage to find a few minutes here and there to watch our favorite television shows, or at least check our Facebook updates and Twitter feeds. We can make time for things that feel like breaks in our otherwise hectic schedule. And that is just what we need to do in order to keep up on our crafting.

It is easy to take our creative projects too lightly and write them off as unimportant things that we can get to any time. But when we’re “too busy” to take that precious creative time, we’re depriving ourselves of more than just completed projects—we’re denying ourselves the chance to take a break, change the pace of our day, and exercise our minds in a different way. We need that time and that creative outlet to focus on just one thing for a change, one thing that we have greater control over than the other variables in our lives. That kind of focus and sense of control brings with it a sense of satisfaction that is independent of project completion.

So, instead of waiting for free time to magically come along on that rare lazy Sunday afternoon, free up some time in your busy day to sit down and do the creative work that you love. Even if you give away the completed project, the gift of time and relaxation you’ve given yourself may be even better!

Snow Dog Scrapbook Page Using CTMH Wonderland

My husband and I LOVE going to the snow. We are both snowboarders, and we have a husky who LIVES to play in the snow, so it's safe to say we take trips to the snow several times each winter. When we lived in California we would go to Mammoth Mountain for days at a time because my in-laws have a condo there. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a cabin in Washington yet. So we've gone on a few day trips.

All that to say, I have a lot of snow pictures. And I finally got around to scrapping some of them. I used the CTMH Wonderland paper pack (now retired) for this fun layout. These pictures are probably my all-time favorite of Oslo. They totally capture his personality when he's in the snow :)

I used the Trinity Alphabet stamp set with White Daisy pigment ink for the title to mimic snow. I love the look of using pigment ink, especially for this, but I hate using it. It's so darn messy! But what won't we do to achieve the look in our head?! I had to stamp it a couple of times so it was thick enough. Thank goodness for CTMH's clear MyAcrylix stamps!

The half-doily strip of paper is the zip strip from one of the papers. All of CTMH's patterned paper has a 1/2" zip strip on it that makes a great border on your cards or scrapbook pages. Once you cut it off you are still left with a 12"x12" piece of paper.

These fun clear snowflakes are from the Top Coats Icing Overlays, which are—you guessed it—retired. They actually sold out quickly...they were a hot item! The blue snowflake is a dimensional element and I topped it with a shimmer brad and some silver glitz glitter gel.

The layout I used is called Performance from the Magic how-to book. Using this book made the layout come together SO quickly. I love how it includes cutting diagrams so you know what sizes to cut your paper. If you're looking for a way to create your scrapbook layouts quickly, I highly recommend this book. My Wedding Invitations

I've been married for 5-1/2 years, but I've never shared my handmade wedding invitations with you! I figured since wedding season is upon us, someone may find some inspiration from them :)

I made them long before I began this blog...they were actually the first cards/invitations I ever made. And I had never even taken decent photos of them until recently.

I went to a wedding show and found a little company called The Invitation Factory. She had all kinds of wedding invitations on display and I fell in love with this one. It's hard to tell, but the darker creme paper is shimmery.

Her business is out of her home, and what she does is design the invitations, then pre-cuts/scores all the paper for you and gives you the supplies & templates, then you assemble and print the necessary items. The paper is amazing...very high-quality...she said it was imported from Italy.

As you can see, this invitation is fairly involved (especially for a beginner). Lots of pieces to print and attach together. There was also a response card in the pocket but I don't have it anymore. It was just a little shorter than the Directions card so it layered perfectly.

I put together all 150 of the invitations on my own and enjoyed every second of it! It was my first time folding on scored lines, using glue dots, and adhering paper together with a tape runner. Who knew paper crafting would become such a huge part of my life?!

I also created these programs. But no template/design help here...I created these guys all on my own. I wish I had a picture of the inside and back...they are just as lovely.

Butterflies & Flowers Bella {What's in a Frame}

Here's my latest {What's in a Frame} nursery decor. I still have 3 more to make in the next 1-2 weeks, so you'll have plenty more to see!

I used CTMH's Bella retired paper pack to create this design. I just love those purples and greens (my wedding was similar colors!). Do you see the new product I snuck in here? Look at the butterfly below. It's part of the Color-ready garden wooden shapes. The wood is so pretty just left as-is, or sponge some ink on it to make it any color you'd like! I sponged the edges with some smokey plum ink.

To create the glittery flower center I squeezed some liquid glass onto a chipboard circle. Then I sprinkled liberally with Martha Stewart glitter (I mixed brownstone & smokey quartz). I LOVE liquid glass. It's such a multi-tasker...it's a super strong clear adhesive, or you can use it on your projects to give a raised/glossy finish. It's definitely a must-have in your craft supplies.

I also love these chipboard butterflies. They are irresistibles, which means when you sponge ink on them you are left with the pretty white pattern. Guess what?! The Miracle Irresistibles are on clearance for only $1. SCORE! Go snag some!! (And check out the rest of the clearance deals!)
