Time for some jazz! This week saw the end of an era with Gilles Peterson's stint on BBC Radio 1 coming to an end. So much of what I know about music started in one way or another through listening to GP's shows. I've followed him from Jazz FM to Kiss FM to BBC Radio 1 and now it's going to be BBC 6 Music. Hey folks something different this week. I was in Hong Kong a week ago doing a gig for the launch of H&M's Marni line. It was a four hour set and here's a two hour section from the first session. I spent the weekend digitizing a bunch of new records I've been picking up over the last month on my travels around the usual LA stores. A lovely Max Roach find I've been hoping to come across plus more music from Ahmed Jamal an artist that I'm getting more and more into. A cool version of Little Sunflower comes from Jerke Kluge's Deep Jazz combo that I heard on the latest Hedonist sessions plus a new collaboration from MixCloud's always point duo UniverSouLove and the Hedonist. A fantastic version of Marvin Gaye from Pharaoh Sanders that I'd never heard before and was kinda taken aback when I was digitizing the album I picked up as it's right at the end.

Starting off this week's show with a bunch of records I picked up while in Copenhagen earlier this week. I found a pretty healthy record store scene over there. I was a little surprised to be honest. Check out Street Sounds if you are over there ever. It's pretty much all jazz all the way except for one Seu Jorge track at the end. I have a couple of tracks with the unmistakable voice of Andy Bey, one with Horace Silver and one with his sisters. Ahmad Jamal does a beautiful live version of 'Round Midnight recorded at the Montreal Jazz Festival in '85. A track from Sun Ra plus a japanese cover of a Sun Ra track from Yann Tomita. I've also dropped right at the end a quite nutty Soil & Pimp Sessions track from their new record. You're probably used to crazy jazz from those guys but this is goes another level, hopefully I won't scare away too many of you :) Enjoy and it's going to be all jazz all the time until mid December when I wrap up the year with the usual Rewind selection.

This week started with the great latin band Ocho and then it just went all Brazil for 30 mins, it just seemed to make sense. From Bossa Nova, to Brazilian jazz flavors and funk all the way to french bossa, it's all there. After the quick Brazil detour it is back to business as usual. I got sent a great rework by Italy's Suonho who takes an inspired pass at Donny Hathaway's classic The Ghetto, check Suonho out on SoundCloud, lots of great music. There's also a new track from Suen Kuti, Benny Sings, and a great new project from AM & Shawn Lee. I wrap things up this week with another track sent to me via SoundCloud from LA's Hang Glider, look for his very promising EP on iTunes and on vinyl. Enjoy and see you next week.
