Ahead of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards this evening (Weds 8th Feb) which sees Jackie Oates nominated for the Best Album award with her album ‘Saturnine’ and the Folk Singer Of The Year Award, Jackie will be doing a session and interview on the BBC Radio Drivetime show with Simon Mayo, immediately before the Folk Awards are broadcast live on BBC Radio 2. Jackie will also be interviewed on BBC Radio Oxford’s breakfast show the same day.

Yesterday (19th Jan) Sam Carter was involved in a guitar master class for BBC Introducing, Filmed in front of specially invited audience, the master class was filmed at the BBC’s famous Maida Vale Studios and was part of day of master classes for young musicians given across the BBC networks. After a beautiful session from Jackie on Woman’s Hour (Radio 4) yesterday – available on ‘listen again’ here - Radio 4 received a rush of emails and tweets in response. One new fan wrote, ‘I have just heard Jackie Oates singing on the programme, whilst driving to work. Wow!! What a beautiful voice. I have never liked folk music before; always found it so sentimental, syrupy, uninspiring. Hearing Jackie Oates today was like a breath of fresh air. It was truly invigorating. Her voice was calming, rich and sensual. Looks like I will be purchasing my first folk album. Hope you can get this message to her.’ Since yesterday’s performance Jackie has gone back to number 1 on Amazon’s English folk chart and hit no. 9 on iTunes Songer-Songwriter chart.
