1000-core processors will speed PCs for 20 times

2011-01-09T03:56:00.000-08:00

Scottish scientists have made a 1000-core processor, and claim it will be 20 times faster than today's processors and will use less power energy.

Dr. Wim Vanderbauwhede leads a research team at the University of Glasgow with the aim to create a futuristic processor with programmable chips called FPGAs (field programmable gate array). Instead of being constructed in the form of integrated circuits of conventional computer chips, these processors can be customized. In very demanding programming, the research team, for example, was able to share the processor core 1000, each had its own budget. To give you a broader picture of this, today's fastest processors on the market of consumer electronics, such as the Intel Core i7, have six cores. However, according to Daily Mail, 1000-core processor processes the 5 gigabytes of data per second, which is "20 times faster than modern computers. Scientists have each of these cores provide its own memory, making them even more accelerated, according to Mashable. Most interestingly, however, that they managed to influence the increase in speed without bothering to use more energy. Precisely because the FPGA's energy efficient, etc. Vanderbauwhede calls them "green option". Will we soon see these processors in laptops? Scientists will present their research at a symposium next March, but according to Vanderbauwheda "this type of processor will become habitual and will in the next few years more to speed up your computer.

The results of reading brain waves can be seen on Xwave, free application for iPhone that displays graphics that you can pick up the ball on the way to concentrate on your thoughts. Or at least so it seems.
Since it costs $ 100, not at all unusual to have high expectations for Xwave "earphones" because they expect us to such devices, and should pleasantly surprise you. When you connect Xwave through the headphone output on your iPhone, the application will make sure to measure the different waves of your brain. For example, on one screen, if you focus your thoughts, you can make the graphics the ball to move more and more on the screen. New rules on network neutrality brought disappointment

2010-12-22T09:36:00.000-08:00

Advocates of network neutrality in the United States have long lobbied for legislation that will prevent ISPs to slow down or even block competing content. Now that the new rules are adopted, many of them challenging.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), independent U.S. government agency, which has similar duties as the local Croatian Agency for Post and Telecommunications, has approved the rules on network neutrality (net neutrality) that prevent Internet service providers (ISP - Internet Service Providers) to discriminate against legal content on the Internet. Advocates of network neutrality, the Republicans and the ISPs all, miraculously, disappointed in the legislation, says Mashable.

Specifically, advocates of network neutrality have long lobbied for legislation that will prevent ISPs to slow down or even block competing content. Many ISPs want to charge for content producers of fast delivery of their news, videos, pictures, etc., to make, or discriminate in favor of their own content and services offered, such as television, or IPTV services VoIP telephony. Imagine the internet as an example, two roads, a quicker, a second slower. ISPs will decide which road to miss your content from the web site, and it is the vision of what the Internet is not like anybody, except, of course, large corporations in the market.

According to information coming from the United States, so called. Open Internet Order, which has been watered down version of network neutrality (Net Neutrality), prevents the fixed broadband providers to block access to certain content and applications, however, these rules are different for wireless service providers (wireless) access services and are not quite so clear to those who would like advocating principles that preserve the free and open Internet.

Namely, end users should be able to decide for themselves which content and services they want without any interference by ISPs. While in theory this is so, according to Dan Gillmor for Salon.com, in practice it actually means that "new rules encouraged to devise new kinds of services that will do just that." Moreover, the discrimination would be explicitly allowed companies like AT & T and Verizon customers for the iPhone and iPad, which, among other things, the most important devices that allow users to access the internet.

Group Public Konowledge issued, therefore, release on his blog in which he warns that at every important point and controversial issue concerning the "openness of the Internet" and what that principle means - not a company to create "fast line" for the "priority" content, or exactly what wireless company they can and can not - the actual language of the rules muted, ambiguous or even contrary to the text of the implementing rules on Internet neutrality.

According to ArsTechnica.com, Republican FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell accused because the FCC saying that "this is the darkest days in the history of the FCC."

Politico writes that, after the FCC approved the rules, the Republican Party began to plan for their abolition, even if these rules are approved remains an open question whether the FCC authority to implement these laws. Specifically, in April this year a U.S. court ruled that the FCC should not stop giant Comcast in controlling user traffic over peer-to-per downloading.

Pioneers of the World Wide Web, such as Tim Berners-Lee, from the very beginning to argue that the Internet is a neutral network. Despite all telephone, cable and wireless giants were clearly expressed the wish that "regulated" the network and according to the rules that they make. However, it certainly is not in the interest of millions, of ordinary people who fight for their freedom on the Internet.

Toshiba show 3D TV that doesn't require 3D glasses

2010-12-20T11:09:00.000-08:00

Toshiba will show its no-glasses 3D television for the first time outside of Japan in January at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Unlike other 3D televisions that require viewers wear a pair of glasses, Toshiba's TVs achieve the illusion of depth thanks to a thin sheet of small lenses in front of the display. The lenses split light from the screen to one of nine points in front of the TV. If the viewer sits in one of these sweet spots they see the 3D illusion.

The TV was first unveiled at October's Ceatec show in Japan and drew long lines from people eager to see it.

"

It has been three months, I think we should show [the TVs] with better technology," said Masaaki Oosumi, president of Toshiba's digital media network unit. He was speaking to a small group of reporters late Friday at a Toshiba event.
At Ceatec Toshiba showed two models, a 12-inch and a 20-inch television. At the time, Oosumi recognized the need for larger screen sizes for markets outside of Japan and said the U.S. market demands screens of around 40-inches and larger.
Both models are due on sale in Japan before the end of the month. The TVs will cost around ¥120,000 (US$1,430) and ¥240,000 respectively.
Oosumi didn't provide any more details about Toshiba's CES plans, but he did confirm the company would be working on making larger screens in 2011.
"Next year is the key year to extend development of the technology and extend the screen size," said Oosumi.
The International Consumer Electronics Show runs from Jan. 6 to 9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
