PLEASANTVILLE – More than 75 people showed up to help clean up the trash during the Pleasantville Clean up Day, sponsored by Sponsored by the STEP UP program. The day was also made possible by partnering with the Atlantic County Utility Authority, Shoprite, YouthBuild, Covenant House and the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City. Mayor Jesse Tweedle stopped by to thank the volunteers for their time. One volunteer, Kayel Cotto, 19, of Somers Point said he felt it was important to take action. “That’s what YouthBuild is all about. We need to walk the talk. If some of these young guys see an older guy picking up trash, they may think, ‘it’s cool if I do it too,’” he said.

Galletta dispatched to become patrol officer

ABSECON – Promoting from within, the Absecon Police Department named Neal William Galletta its newest patrol officer.

He has been an Absecon dispatcher since 2009.

Born and raised in PomptonLakes, he now lives in Brigantine.

Memorial Day ceremony planned

The City of Pleasantville will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor its veterans at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28 at the Greenwood Cemetery, located on Washington Avenue near the intersection at New Road. ABSECON – The Absecon Democratic Club elected officers at a Tuesday, May 15 meeting at the American Legion Hall.

Mark Lowenstein was elected president; Bart Richter, vice president; Pat Dalton, treasurer; JoAnn Elco, recording secretary; Aileen Dey, corresponding secretary; Jeff Pattison, sergeant at arms; and Jerry Savell, municipal chairman.

UNITY is having its first annual Youth Explosion: Poetry Event noon-3 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Boys and Girls Club in Atlantic City, 317 Pennsylvania Avenue. Actor and comedian Kevin Hart will appear. Author Cassandra Ulrich will sign books during the event. Special performances by Raymond Tyler, host of WTTH “The Touch,” musicians Voices in Power, comedian Dupree Lee and author Marte’ King will be part of the event as well. Comedian, actor Kevin Hart to appear at local talent event

PLEASANTVILLE – Actor and comedian Kevin Hart is scheduled to appear at the Youth Explosion Event Saturday, May 26 in Atlantic City, according to Yvette Soklove, event organizer.

Most recently, the actor has appeared on the television show “Modern Family” as the Dunphy family’s neighbor Andre. In addition to his standup comedy work, Hart is also known for his appearances in the movies “Along Came Polly,” “Little Fockers,” “Scary Movie 4,” “Soul Plane,” “Death at a Funeral” and “Think Like a Man.”

The talent show will be noon-3 p.m. at The Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City, 317 Pennsylvania Avenue, Atlantic City. Admission is $5, $3 for children.

Police investigate burglaries

ABSECON – Absecon police are investigating two recent burglaries.

The first occurred Friday, May 18 in the 100 block of Wynnewood Drive.

The second was reported Monday, May 21 in the 700 block of Shelburne Avenue.
