I always say there are pliers for everything. You don’t have to destroy components while trying to get them out with the wrong tool.

As a DIY mechanic, I often struggled to remove relays from the fuse tray when troubleshooting car electricals. Most cars come with a fuse remover, but hardly any include a relay remover.

I’ve tried using connector pliers without success. Needle-nose pliers sometimes get the car relays out, but they often leave marks on the surface. Not to mention, these long nose pliers easily slip, and if the relay is too tight, it might crack as you try to pull it out. That’s where relay removal pliers come in. These pliers are specifically designed for removing relays safely and efficiently.

Damaged car relay

But there is a problem. Many tools marketed as “relay pullers” tend to mar up or damage stuck relays.

After trying a few tools, the one that truly impressed me is the Kyoto Tool (KTC) relay removal pliers.

Check on Amazon

The KTC relay pliers are made in Japan and work perfectly for removing relays with double locking tabs. These pliers have three clever design features that make them stand out as the best pliers for removing car relays.

The first feature is the uniquely shaped claws. They spread just enough to unlock the hook holding the relay in place without bending or damaging it.

The second feature is the ramps on each side of each plier which help push the locking tabs on the relay holder out of the way as you pull the relay.

Lastly, these pliers have a slot in the middle that fits the locking tongue perfectly. This slot ensures that you don’t have to wiggle a stubborn relay with a screwdriver to loosen it. They hold the relay tightly, making the job quick, precise, and damage-free.

Most importantly, KTC relay removal pliers are compatible with relays in most vehicles that use hooks to keep them securely in place.

How to Use Relay Removal Pliers

Open the pliers and position them over the relay.

Push down so the jaws press the locking tabs and disengage them.

Grip firmly and pull the relay straight out.

The jaws have flat, smooth sides, so you don’t have to worry about scratching or damaging the relay surface.

If you often deal with car electrical relays, KTC relay removal pliers are one of those small but smart investments that make a big difference.

If you’ve been searching for Malco Eagle Grip locking pliers, you may have already noticed they’re increasingly hard to find nowadays. That’s because Malco discontinued the Eagle Grip lineup and shut down their DeWitt, Nebraska factory.

Today, the Malco Eagle Grips stock has already run out in many stores. Amazon seems like the last stop where you can still get the original Eagle Grips. And once they’re gone here, they’ll perhaps be gone for good.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to own a pair of these amazing USA-made locking pliers, now is the time to grab one before they disappear forever.

Check what’s available today!

Good News

But there’s good news! Word on the streets is that Snap-On acquired the original Eagle Grip tooling and patents from Malco. And although they didn’t revive the DeWitt Nebraska factory (it was run down already), they relocated production to the East Coast.

This means we may soon see Snap On locking pliers made with the same Eagle Grips tooling. But the big question remains: will the new ‘Eagle Grips’ from Snap-On have the same quality and finesse as the originals and at a fair price?

Meanwhile, the Eagle Grips continue to dominate. In Project Farm’s lastest tests of best locking pliers, Eagle Grips once again came out on top against leading brands. That’s a strong testament to their durability and performance. It was a year of honest work from Malco, I must say!

Final Thoughts

With production discontinued and stocks running out, Malco Eagle Grip locking pliers aren’t just tools anymore — they’re collector’s items now.

Grab your set while you still can! From classic locking pliers to C-clamps and more, there’s a variety to choose from. But they won’t be around for long.

When it comes to every-day-carry multitools, the first names that come to mind are usually the big brands like Leatherman or Gerber. But not everyone wants to spend abig bucks on an EDC tool. And that’s where the Cranach 16-in-1 Pocket Multitool Pliers step in.

This is a budget-friendly alternative that packs plenty of features for campers, outdoors enthusiasts, or even just for keeping around the house. It is quite different from Cranach 14-in-1, which is more of a general-purpose multitool.

Out of the box, the Cranach multitool feels solid and well-built. At 335g (0.7 lbs) including its pouch, it has some heft. This can be reassuring for durability, but it can feel a bit heavy, particularly if you prefer carrying a lightweight tool on your belt.

However, the design is clean, functional, and the tool actually holds up surprisingly well against popular brands, at a fraction of their cost.

Check Price on Amazon

Key Features

The “16-in-1” label isn’t just marketing fluff. This tool comes loaded with practical features, including:

Needle-nose pliers with pipe grip and wire cutters

Rope cutter

Screwdriver and bits

Scissors

Bottle opener and can opener

Knife

Whistle and Fire Starter

What really stands out about this 16-in-1 Cranach multitool is how you can access the knife and other tools without opening the pliers. That small design detail makes it more convenient to use than many multitools.

Performance in Use

The pliers themselves are sturdy, but the cutters are a weak point. They’re small and quite blunt. Actually, I struggled cutting stranded wire. In fact, when testing it, the jaws jammed and I had to pry them open. This can be disappointing especially if you need something you can use to cut and strip electrical wires on a camping van or RV.

Another drawback is the pouch design. There’s a small pocket inside meant for storing screwdriver bits, but it actually makes it tricky to slide the multitool back in without carefully looking.

A better idea would have been to sew that pocket for bits onto the side of the pouch, so that the main compartment is clear and easier to use.

Cranach Multitool Knife

On the other hand, the knife blade is sharp, easy to deploy, and handles small cutting jobs effortlessly. The fire starter works well once you scrape off the protective black coating on the magnesium rod — a small learning curve, but worth noting.

Everyday Use

For camping, hiking, or tossing in the glove compartment, this multitool checks most boxes. Around the house, it’s a handy problem-solver when you just need a screwdriver, scissors, or a quick blade without hunting down your full toolbox.

Gift-Worthy?

Definitely. The Cranach multitool makes a great Father’s Day or Christmas gift, especially as a stocking stuffer. It’s not a premium Leatherman replacement, but at this price point, it delivers excellent value for money.

Video Review

Want to see how it actually performs? Check out my full hands-on review of the Cranach 16-in-1 Pocket Multitool Pliers on this YouTube video

Verdict

The Cranach 16-in-1 Multitool Pliers strike a balance between affordability and functionality. While it has its flaws such as bad wire cutters, it shines as a versatile everyday carry for light tasks and outdoor adventures.

If you’re after a durable, feature-packed multitool without breaking the bank, this one is worth considering.

Pliers don’t just belong in the garage. They can bring fun to parties, too. At my daughter’s birthday, my wife used balloon expansion pliers to make confetti balloons that sparkled all around. She even used them to open some balloons wide enough to slip in fresh flowers. Others she filled with petals and a little water, turning them into colorful ice balls that kept bottled drinks cold with flair. The outcome was just pure glamor and a hit with both kids and guests.

Confetti balloons for Birthday

What Are Balloon Expander Pliers?

Balloon expander pliers — also known as balloon pliers, balloon mouth expanders, or balloon stuffing pliers — are designed to gently stretch the opening of a balloon so you can stuff it with decorations. Instead of struggling with your fingers and risking popped balloons or sore finger tips, these tools make the process quick, easy, and safe.

If you’re into balloon art or party decorating, balloon expansion pliers are a must-have.

How to Use Balloon Pliers

Using balloon pliers is simple:

Stick the metal tips of the pliers inside the neck of the balloon.

Squeeze the handles — this expands the opening for you.

Add anything you like it the balloon: stickers, prizes for popping games, confetti, glitter, or even small flowers.

Once filled, just remove the pliers and tie or seal the balloon as usual.

Why Use Balloon Pliers?

Fingers alone can’t stretch balloons evenly.

Pliers prevent tearing and reduce hand strain.

They speed up balloon decorating.

Perfect for larger balloons used in décor or games.

Creative Uses

Floral ice packs for engagement party

These are some of the creative thinks ballon expansion pliers can help you achieve with ballons:

Confetti balloons for sparkle.

Prizes or stickers inside balloons for fun popping games.

Flowers or greenery for elegant balloon centerpieces.

Frozen balloons with flowers as colorful ice packs for parties.

LED lights for glowing night-time décor.

The Best Balloon Pliers I’ve Used

Most balloon expanders look nearly identical — the difference is often in brand names. My favorite so far is the SavgU Balloon Stuffing Pliers. The longer prongs reach deeper into the balloon neck, which makes it easier to drop decorations inside. Other pliers with short prongs often create a bottleneck, forcing you to push items down with your finger.

If you want something sturdier, farm banding pliers can double as balloon pliers. On the farm, you can use them to expand rubber elastrators for docking lambs or castrating baby goats. And during parties, use them to expand balloons for decor! I like the Elekmundo goat banding pliers because they’re stainless steel, durable for farm use, yet gentle enough on balloons.

A Small Wish

The only thing I wish balloon pliers (and banding pliers) had is a locking mechanism to hold them open. That would make stuffing balloons — or stretching rubber rings on the farm — even easier.

Final Thoughts

Balloon pliers may be small, but they’re a big help for anyone who wants to create unique party decorations. From confetti balloons to floral ice packs, they turn simple balloons into show-stopping décor. Whether you go with a classic set like the SavgU pliers or a sturdy farm option like EleMundo, you’ll wonder how you ever decorated without them.

When working with canvas—whether for painting, framing, or screen printing—achieving a perfectly stretched surface is both an art and a challenge. While stretching canvas by hand might seem straightforward, it often leads to uneven tension, sore fingers, and even tears, especially when working with delicate materials like fine linen. That’s where canvas pliers come in.

Canvas pliers are designed to provide extra grip and strength, allowing you to pull the fabric tightly and evenly across the frame while keeping it taut. This ensures a smoother, professional-looking finish and makes the process far faster and less tiring compared to stretching by hand.

Whether you’re an artist preparing a canvas for painting, upholstering furniture, or tackling a DIY framing project, canvas pliers are indispensable.

For my latest project, I set up a canvas for my nephew who loves to paint. I used a pair of canvas pliers to pull the fabric tight before stapling it onto the frame. This gave him a solid surface to work on and reminded me how useful a pair of canvas stretching pliers is when preparing canvases for painting.

In this review, I’ll explore some of the best canvas pliers, highlighting their features, strengths, and ideal use cases. Whether you’re stretching fine linen, heavy-duty upholstery fabric, or anything in between, this guide will help you find the right tool for the job.

Here’s a quick overview of the tools I’ll review:

C.S. Osborne No. 249 – A heavy-duty, professional-grade tool built to last; excellent grip and durability but requires two hands.

TOPINCN Canvas Stretching Pliers – Budget-friendly cast iron pliers with a simple old-style design; sturdy but not spring-loaded.

Yeeyeah Heavy Duty Canvas Pliers Kit – A complete starter kit with pliers, staple gun, and remover; good value though the staple gun can be inconsistent.

Timsec Canvas Stretcher Pliers Kit – Affordable multipurpose set with staple and tack removers; ideal for small upholstery or DIY canvas jobs.

Keep reading to find out which pliers are best for your specific needs and some tips for getting the most out of them!

Top 4 Best Pliers for Canvas

1. C.S. Osborne No. 249 – Canvas Stretching Pliers for Upholstery

The C.S. Osborne No. 249 is a heavy-duty tool that stands out for its strength and durability. Designed for professionals and serious DIY enthusiasts, these pliers are particularly well-suited for stretching upholstery fabric, leather, and canvas.

Checl Price on Amazon

Key Features and Performance

Durable

The Osborne 249 is built to last a lifetime, with an all-metal construction that feels incredibly solid in hand. While its sand-cast finish might not be the most polished, it speaks to the rugged nature of this tool.

Furthermore, the C.S Osborne canvas pliers are made in the USA. This guarantees high-quality craftsmanship and hence the higher price point.

Offers a strong grip

These pliers allows for an impressively tight grip, even with aging or less-than-strong fingers. It’s particularly useful for those working on thick or heavy fabrics like leather or hair-on-hide.

Design and Usability:

The plier’s size and weight give it a substantial feel, making it ideal for heavy-duty work.It works well in tight spaces where larger fabric stretchers may not fit.

The downside of Osborne Canvas stretching pliers is that you cannot operate them with one hand. You need both hands to open and hold securely, which can be a bit cumbersome. I reckon a spring mechanism would improve ease of use.

Nonetheless, these pliers provides a firm and even pull once it grips the fabric.

Extremely heavy-duty and long-lasting.

Excellent grip strength for pulling tight, even stretches.

Versatile: works on canvas, upholstery fabric, leather, and more.

Bulky and heavy, which may be tiring for extended use.

Requires two hands to operate due to the lack of a spring mechanism.

Rough sand-cast finish may not appeal to those seeking a sleek design.

Verdict

The C.S. Osborne No. 249 is a workhorse of a tool. While it may not be the lightest or easiest to use, its durability and pulling power make it a worthwhile investment for anyone stretching heavy materials or tackling upholstery projects. It’s an ideal choice for professionals and enthusiasts looking for a tool that will stand the test of time.

2. TOPINCN Canvas Stretching Pliers

The TOPINCN stretching pliers are a budget-friendly option for upholstery and canvas work. Made of cast iron with a rough curved handle, they provide a solid non-slip grip. The black varnish finish gives them a traditional look, while the 3-inch wide jaws are suitable for gripping fabric and leather.

Heavier than modern aluminum models.

Rough finish may feel less refined.

Verdict

The TOPINCN pliers are a solid entry-level tool for canvas or upholstery stretching. They lack modern conveniences but get the job done at a very reasonable price. Best for DIYers or occasional use.

Yeeyeah Heavy Duty Canvas Pliers Kit

The YeeYeah Canvas pliers kit is a solid value for anyone stretching their own canvases or doing light upholstery. The 4.75″ wide pliers with rubber-padded jaws give a firm grip, and the spring return handle makes them easy to use. It comes as a full set with a 3-in-1 staple gun (uses D, T, and U staples), a remover, and 1000 staples—so you don’t have to shop around for separate tools.

Assembly is straightforward. All you have to do is attach the spring.

The only drawback is the staple gun that sometimes doesn’t drive staples deep enough. But for the price, I think it a handy all-in-one starter kit that covers everything you need to stretch canvases at home.

The Yeeyeah kit is a must-have for artists or DIYers looking to build and stretch their own canvases. With all the essential tools included, it offers convenience and solid performance at a fair price.

4. Timsec Canvas Stretcher Pliers Kit

The Timsec kit offers more than just pliers — it also comes with a staple remover and tack puller, making it handy for both canvas stretching and reupholstery work.
Verdict

The Timsec kit is a great budget-friendly choice for small upholstery tasks or casual canvas stretching. With the extra tools included, it provides excellent value for DIY projects at home.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever tried stretching fine linen or heavy canvas with your bare hands, you know how quickly it can lead to torn fabric, sore fingers, or even bloody knuckles. Canvas pliers take all that strain away by giving you extra grip and leverage, letting you pull fabric drum-tight while keeping it smooth and even across the frame.

With pliers, you’ll work faster, achieve a tighter stretch, and end up with a professional finish that’s hard to get by hand alone. Whether you’re preparing canvases for painting or tackling upholstery projects, a good pair of canvas pliers is essential. Once you start working on larger frames — 36” and beyond — they become less of a convenience and more of a necessity.

The bottom line: if you want consistently taut, professional-quality results without wearing out your hands, investing in a solid pair of canvas pliers is the smart choice.

Knipex held their summer edition update on July 3 this year. As expected, they released a few new tools. Most of them are just slight upgrades to existing ones. But for pliers fans like us, even small changes matter.

Here are three standout tools worth talking about. All of them are pliers, of course.

1. New Knipex Multicrimp PV

The Multicrimp has always been a favorite. This new PV version is designed with solar work in mind. It comes with a new die set for crimping MC4 and MC4 Evo 2 connectors. The crimping range is between 4 and 6 mm².

2025 Knipex Multicrimp PV (97 33 03)

What’s great is that the new Knipex multicrimp PV uses the same die magazine as the previous version. This means you can use the crimping dies interchangeably.

It is also good to note that the tool-free die change feature has not gone. It lets you swap the dies in seconds without needing any other tool. Quite different from ordinary multifunction crimpers such as the haisstronica 6pcs that requires a screwdriver to change the dies.

And yes, the changer magazine still offers the same safe and tidy storage for your dies. It has a belt clip so that you can carry it on your waist, which is one of the reasons I like the Knipex Multicrimp so much.

2. Evostrip and ComStrip Wire Strippers

Knipex also introduced two automatic wire strippers: the 12 40 200 Evostrip and the 12 62 180 ComStrip.

The Evostrip is an update to the NexStrip. It now features a two-component handle for a better grip. The handle feels more comfortable and is less likely to slip.

Another change is the small arrow added to guide you on where to place the cable for cutting. It’s a tiny detail but quite helpful.

Just like before, it can strip wire from 0.03 mm² up to 10 mm². But now it can strip insulation up to 22 mm long, which is 2 mm more than the previous version.

Also, the adjustment lever at the top has been replaced. There’s now a locking wheel at the bottom of the lower jaw. It gives you more control over how deep the blade cuts.

3. New Knipex Extra Slim Cobra

The Extra Slim Cobra is perfect for tight spots. It has a narrower and longer head than the standard Cobra.

This new version comes with a few upgrades. The gripping capacity has increased. It can now handle up to 40 mm for round material and up to 36 mm for hex shapes. That’s an improvement from the old Cobra ES that has 32 mm limit.

The jaws have also been slightly redesigned. They now include a transverse groove to grip things like small nails and cotter pins. You can use it like a nail holder to hold small nails when hammering.

You also get a front gripping function, similar to what you find on the Knipex TwinGrip. This lets you grip and remove small stripped screws.

But it doesn’t replace the TwinGrip. It just gives you more options.

And now, the Extra Slim Cobra comes in two sizes: 10 inch and 7 inch. That’s 250 mm and 180 mm if you prefer metric. The smaller size will definitely be handier for tighter spaces.

Conclusion

That’s the Knipex summer update. These tools don’t break new ground, but they do make already good tools even better. If you own the older versions, you’re still in good shape. But if you’re looking to upgrade, these refinements are worth checking out.

Which one catches your eye the most? Let me know in the comments.

When troubleshooting solar panel issues, I always start by inspecting the MC4 connectors. As a seasoned solar technician, I’ve replaced countless failed MC4 connectors, many of which appear burned. And in nearly every case, it comes down to one simple mistake: a bad crimp.

Sure, there are other culprits like connector mismatches, factory defects, incomplete insertion, or even harsh weather conditions (especially on rooftop installations). But a bad MC4 Connector crimp? That’s the number one reason most MC4 connectors fail.

Some folks swear by sticking to the original Staubli connectors to reduce MC4 connector issues. But while quality brands do matter, I hold the opinion that even a Staubli connector will fail if the crimp is bad.

That’s why in this guide, I walk you through exactly how I crimp MC4 connectors the right way for a safe and solid electrical connection.

Why Proper Crimping Matters

An MC4 connector is only as good as the connection inside it. A loose or under-crimped pin creates resistance, causes heat buildup, and can even become a fire hazard. Something as simple as a poor crimp can turn your entire solar panel investment into smoke.

So let’s get into the proper way to crimp MC4 solar connectors—from disassembly to the final click.

Step-by-Step: How To Crimp MC4 Connectors

Step 1: Disassemble the MC4 Connector

Start by unscrewing the end cap and sliding off the compression sleeve.

Before you do anything else, pass the wire through the end cap and sleeve. This step is easy to forget but absolutely necessary before crimping.

Step 2: Strip the Wire

Strip back about 1 inch (25 mm) of insulation from the end of the wire. Make sure you don’t nick or damage the strands.

Step 3: Insert the Wire into the Connector Pin

Grab the correct male or female connector pin depending on what side you’re working on. A female connector pin goes into the male MC4 connector while the male pin goes into the male connector housing.

Insert the bare conductor into the pin so that the wings rest on the wire strands, right where the insulation ends.

Step 4: Crimp the Connector Pin

Place the connector pin with the wire inside your MC4 crimping tool. I’m using my favorite 6-in-1 haisstronica crimping set which comes with MC4 crimping dies.

Make sure the open wings are facing the side of the crimper with the “W” pattern.

Now squeeze the tool fully to make a tight, solid crimp. If your crimper doesn’t fully close the wings in one go, do a second crimp—but don’t overdo it.

Pro tip: Never use pliers or general-purpose crimpers. Use a proper MC4 crimping tool.

Step 5: Perform a Pull Test

Gently pull on the wire to check the crimp.

If the wire slips out or the pin feels loose, discard the pin and redo the crimp with a fresh one. You only get one shot per pin.

Step 6: Assemble the MC4 Connector

Once your crimp passes the pull test, insert the crimped pin into the MC4 housing until you hear a click.

Then, slide the compression sleeve back up and tighten the end cap firmly. Make sure the rubber gasket is properly seated to seal out moisture and dust.

Done! Repeat for the other connector

Congratulations—you’ve just crimped an MC4 connector like a pro.

Now repeat the process for the second connector (positive or negative) and double-check your work before plugging everything in.

Watch It in Action

Prefer watching? I’ve put together this quick video to show the entire MC4 crimping process step by step

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned installer, getting the crimp right can make or break your solar installation. A proper MC4 connector crimp does not just prevent callbacks but ensures electrical safety and optimal performance of your installation.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably tried a number of crimping tools—some good, some not-so-good, and some that left you crimping twice just to get a decent hold. So when I got my hands on the Haisstronica 6pcs Crimping Pliers Set, I was curious to see if it could really replace a toolbox worth of crimpers. But after testing it for a few weeks, I can confidently say: this crimping set is a keeper.

One Tool, Six Functions — Replaces 6 Different Crimpers!

The standout feature of this Haisstronica crimping set is its versatility. It comes with six interchangeable die sets, and each die is designed for a specific type of terminal. With just one tool, you can cover almost every crimping scenario you’ll encounter.

Get the Haisstronica 6-in-1 Crimping Set on Amazon

Here’s what each die does:

Die Set A – For heat shrink connectors and terminals. Ideal for automotive and marine applications where you need moisture protection.

Die Set B – For insulated terminals. My go-to for standard wiring jobs.

Die Set C – For non-insulated terminals. Offers excellent conductivity where insulation isn’t needed.

Die Set D – For open barrel terminals, often found in OEM automotive wiring.

Die Set E – For ferrule terminals. A must-have if you’re working on control panels or stranded wire.

Die Set F – For Solar MC4 connectors. I didn’t expect to use this one, but it came in handy for my solar projects. It makes a solid crimp on an MC4 connector barrel.

Having all six of these in one kit saves space, time, and money. No need to juggle a drawer full of single-purpose tools.

Solid Construction and Professional Feel

The tool itself feels sturdy and well-built. The forged jaws are crafted with precision technology, which gives you even, consistent crimps every time. Unlike those cheap crimpers that press on a tiny spot and force you to re-crimp, this one gets it right in one go—one and done.

The ratcheting mechanism is smooth and precise. You can pre-clamp the connector in the jaws, insert the wire afterward, and then finish the crimp. This is especially helpful when working in tight or awkward spaces.

And yes, it automatically springs open after each crimp. That may seem like a small feature, but it makes a big difference when you’re working quickly.

Comfortable, Ergonomic Grip

The handle is a blend of molded plastic and rubber, making it both comfortable and non-slip. Even during long sessions, the grip feels good in the hand. I’ve crimped 18, 16, 14, and 10-gauge wires with it. Some thinner wires need a bit more force, but I can still handle it with one hand.

Easy Die Swapping

Switching dies on the Haisstronica multicrimp pliers is fairly simple. Just use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws, swap the dies, and attach the screws back. There’s even two extra screws in the kit, just in case you lose one.

And if removing the screws is too much work, Haisstronica offers an alternative model that does not require a tool to remove dies. It has an inbuilt locking mechanism that locks the dies in place and you just need to squeeze in the locking levers to release the dies when changing them out. This kit comes in a nice branded carry bag with velcro straps inside to hold the tool in place. It also has mesh pockets inside to store the die sets. Check it out in this video I created.

For the plastic storage case, it has labelled slots for each die. It makes it easy to organize the die sets and tell which one is missing. The premium kit even includes a laminated reference card that illustrates the type of connector and wire guage for each die set. This is super useful, especially for a beginner or DIYer.

Excellent Performance

So far, I’ve used this tool for automotive wiring, some basic electrical jobs, and even a solar setup. I did have to adjust it for smaller gauge wires on my tiller project, but once I did, it worked like a charm.

My only real gripe? The tool is a bit bulky, which made it tricky to fit into some cramped spaces—like underneath the chassis wiring in my truck. Also, note that the set doesn’t include connectors, just the tool and dies.

📹 See It in Action: Watch My Full Video Review

To help you get a better feel for what this tool can do, I recorded a hands-on video showing how I tested each die with different terminals and wires. Check it out below:

Final Verdict

The Haisstronica 6pcs Crimping Pliers Set is everything I hoped it would be—versatile, durable, and consistent. It’s ideal for anyone who needs to crimp multiple types of terminals without hauling around a dozen different tools.

It is also budget-friendly compared to buying six separate crimpers, and it doesn’t compromise on quality. Whether you’re a pro or a serious DIYer, this tool will always produce a manufacturer-grade crimp!

👉 Ready to Upgrade Your Crimping Game?

If you’re ready to ditch those flimsy crimpers or tired of switching between multiple tools, the Haisstronica Crimping Set is a smart upgrade. It’s one reliable tool that transforms into six different types of crimpers—perfect for almost any wiring job.

I highly recommend it, and you can grab it here on Haisstronica at a discounted price.

End-cutting pliers, or end nippers, are essential tools for cutting nails, screws, and wires. They are also an excellent rebar tool for tying and cutting rebar wire, making them a must-have for construction and metalworking professionals.

When looking for the best end cutters for the job, you want one that cuts as flush as possible while requiring minimal hand strength.

Todd Osgood in his review of the best end nippers on Project Farm YouTube channel put several end nippers to the test, and here’s a break down the top five performers based on his rigorous evaluation.

Why Do You Need End-Cutting Pliers?

End cutters are invaluable in many scenarios. Whether you’re working in a cramped attic to clip off roofing nails or preparing a horse stall by removing sharp protrusions, these tools make quick work of cutting through mild steel nails and screws. Their high leverage design ensures effortless nipping or pulling of nails while reducing strain on your hands.

While end nippers are excellent for cutting mild steel nails and machine screws, they are not suitable for hardened fasteners or stainless steel screws. Applying excessive force on such materials can damage the tool’s jaws.

However, as Todd demonstrates in his torture tests, some models hold up exceptionally well under extreme conditions.

What Is Tested?

Project Farm tests various aspects of these pliers, including:

Flush Cutting Ability – How much material remains after attempting a flush cut nails and staples.

Cutting Force – How much hand strength is needed to cut through nails and screws.

Knife Durability – How well the cutting knives withstand repeated use on penny nails, screws, including an extreme test against a 3/16 drill bit.

The Top 5 Best 8-Inch End-Cutting Pliers

After analyzing the results, here are the top five performers:

Strengths

Knipex dominated in almost every category. It required the least amount of force to cut through both nails and screws and suffered only minor damage while cutting a drill bit—an extreme test that broke every other competitor.

Flush Cutting: Ranked among the best with minimal staple length left.

Price: $63

Verdict

If you want the absolute best and are willing to invest, Knipex is the top choice.

Strengths

Wiha performed admirably, ranking second in cutting force and flush cutting ability while maintaining strong durability.

Price: At $25, it’s an excellent balance of affordability and performance.

Verdict

If you’re on a budget but still want high-quality pliers, Wiha is a fantastic choice.

GearWrench Dual Material End Cutting Nipper Pliers

Key Features

Made from alloy steel

Has dual-material cushion grip handles for comfort

Check Price on Amazon

Strengths

GearWrench placed in the top three across most tests, offering solid cutting ability and reasonable durability.

Price: At $35, it sits between budget and premium options.

Verdict

A strong contender for those wanting good performance without the premium price.

Gedore Lever-action end cutter

Key Features

Offers excellent leverage but is hindered by dull cutting edges.

Check Price on Amazon

Strengths

Gedore required relatively low hand force for cutting but was priced at a premium.

Durable: It performed well without experiencing damages on the cutting knives despite the visibly blunt edges. It could have ranked higher if the knives were sharper.

Price: $70

Verdict

A solid performer, but its price may push buyers towards Knipex instead. Also, the cutting edges are quite blunt that they chew throught the nails instead of cutting cleanly.

Barnwell End Nippers

Strengths

A well-rounded option with decent flush-cutting ability and mid-range cutting force.

Price: Affordable at $34.

Verdict

A great mid-tier option, though not as strong in durability as the top three. However, Barnwell is currently unavailable in the market, making Wazakura a perfect alternative for those looking for similar performance.

Other Notable Mentions

Wazakura Hand Forged End-Cutting Pliers (Best Flush Cut)

In the Video, Wazakura end nippers offered the most flush cut, leaving only 0.023 inches of the nail sticking out—twice as short as the second-best competitor. However, despite thie stellar flush-cutting performance, the knives of these Japanese end cutting pliers suffered severe damage while cutting screws.

A unique thing about Wazakura end cutters is that they are hand-made from S55C carbon steel. However, they come bare without handle grips but they retail at a fair price below $50. They are the perfect choice if you want end nippers that will shave off penny nails closest to the panel.

Popular brands

Popular brands such as Channellock, NWS, and Bates disappointed. They experienced severe damage when cutting screws, making them less durable choices.

Final Thoughts

Knipex clearly stands out as the best overall, offering superior performance, durability, and ease of use. However, Wiha is the best budget-friendly option for those who want great performance at a lower cost. If you need a balance between affordability and capability, GearWrench and Barnwell offer great alternatives.

Lastly, I like to mention where a tool is made because it matters sometimes. For instance, the Knipex, Gedore, Wiha, and Barnwell end cutters are all made in Germany. GearWrench is from China, and Wazakura is from Japan.

When it comes to electrical installation jobs, having the right tools makes all the difference. That’s why I absolutely love the Klein Tools 8-Inch Long Nose Pliers and Wire Stripper/Cutter Bundle. These pliers are not only made in the USA, but they are also designed with the needs of electricians, HVAC technicians, and industrial workers in mind.

Precision & Versatility

The wire stripper is a workhorse, capable of cutting, stripping, and looping 10-18 AWG solid and 12-20 AWG stranded wire with ease. Meanwhile, the long nose pliers feature a slim head design, making them perfect for working in tight spaces, and the extended handles provide extra reach and leverage—a huge plus when dealing with tricky installations.

Glow-in-the-Dark Handles – A Game Changer

My favorite feature? The hi-viz, glow-in-the-dark grips! These electrical pliers are coated with a synthetic cushioned material that not only makes them comfortable to hold but also easy to locate in the dark.

Whether you’re working in attics, basements, or behind drop ceiling tiles, you won’t have to waste time searching for them.

I bought this bundle as a birthday gift for brother, who works nights for a major cable provider. He often struggled to find his wire strippers and cutters in dimly lit spaces, but ever since using this hi-viz klein set, he’s been raving about it! The glow-in-the-dark feature is bright enough that he can spot pliers instantly after flashing his torch.

And it’s not just him—HVAC techs, union electricians, and industrial workers all swear by these pliers. One electrician even tested them by tossing them into attic insulation before coming down the ladder, and his coworker found them within seconds!

How the Glow Feature Works

To get the most out of the glow-in-the-dark feature, you need to charge the handles with a light source. Even a flashlight will do.

When fully charged with strong light, the handles glow brightly for about 20 minutes before gradually dimming. While they don’t glow indefinitely, they’re still far easier to find than regular-handled pliers.

If they ever go dim, simply pass a flashlight over them, and they’ll instantly light up again—perfect for finding misplaced tools in dark crawl spaces, attics, or job sites at night.

Worth the Investment?

Sure, they might be a bit pricey, but for the quality, durability, and convenience, they are worth every penny. Just remember: keep them clean—dust or grime can dim their glow over time. A little maintenance goes a long way.

Whether you’re a professional tradesperson or just need a reliable tool for DIY projects, this Klein Tools bundle is an absolute must-have. And if you happen to love night fishing, they double as a handy tool for that too!
