I have an drilled well about 140 feet, I've always had issues with the water, iron 10ppm anyhow , Bacteria iron, magnesium, a little sulphur, and maybe even some other bacteria, as my clear lines turn black inside, it was never used for drinking water. The only thing hooked up right now is water softener with salt. its not doing the job lol.
When I flush the toilet or run the bath on the top floor, water backs up in the sink on the floor below. I had a guy come look at it today - just someone who dabbles in plumbing. He tried to snake the line at the problem sink and couldn't fix it. He told me the problem is a clog in the toilet on the top floor. I'm not convinced - water seems to be able to move freely...
When connected to city sewers a decade or two ago, they evidently did ABS (recycled plastic resin) out to 75 feet from the house, and then switched to SDR35 (PVC) the rest of the way out to the street. It is written that SDR35 is often used for the final run to the city sewer. My question is WHY? Why don't they use the same kind of pipe the whole way? The pipes are in great condition, but there is root...
I noticed water was leaking into the toilet bowl — I confirmed via the food coloring trick, but it's also quite visible that water is constantly flowing down the walls of the toilet bowl. Note there is no water leaking outside of the toilet.

I contacted Kohler and they said the only way for the water to leak into the bowl is either the flapper or the flush valve gasket is malfunctioning.

I replaced the flapper with a new one but it's still leaking...
Per code, can I use a male plug into a female elbow, or is a female cap on to a male pipe end required?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a vinyl bathtub surround that would work well with a vintage tub? I've been finding that most that I see have to be used with the matching model tub. The rest of my bathroom, ceiling to floor (including the whole bath area) is the vintage peach tiles from the 60's (?). The walls behind the tub tiles are falling out because the walls are crumbling behind them.
I don’t have much experience with plumbing although have tackled some rudimentary things in the past and am somewhat handy. The pipe drips about a small bowl amount per month. Looks like someone had put some putty or some patch on it in the past. What would the simplest fix be here? I have a lot of other repairs piling up would be cool to diy this one.
