The “incident” that happened at Avery Fisher Hall was at the end of Quarter To Three when the stage collapsed.
A fan recalls the incident and no one was hurt. This is 1974Vol 1 of the Kivak Master Series. Future volumes
of 1974 are forthcoming. According to BruceBase the circulating copy of this show is in mediocre quality.
Now we have a major upgrade! This one runs at the correct speed and the sound is balanced. I don’t have
“Cupid In The City” to compare it, but going by the comments on BruceBase, this should be an improvement
to the existing copy. The sound is very good, maybe even better depending on how you rate your shows.
You can even hear Bruce’s dialogue clearer on the setup for “She’s the One.”
Listen to the bells at beginning of Jungleland! Stunning and beautiful!

This is 1974 Volume 6. It took great effort to get this recording into shape. It ran slow on disc one and I corrected it to
sound closer to normal. At least to my ears. Disc two had another set of problems, where sound was primarily coming out of
one channel. I also corrected that. Tape warp was a culprit on the last two songs. You can begin to hear it in spots during
“Sandy” and then it worsens during “A Love So Fine.” I was able to remove many of the spots where the sound drops out on
“A Love So Fine”, but there was nothing I could do to correct the warp sound. Kitty’s Back is not complete clocking at 6:08
and there may be edits in other songs that escape me at the moment. The overall sound was on the muddy side, so I EQed it
which made some improvement. None of these shows will ever be sonic masterpieces, especially with the recorders available
in 1974. The intention for the master series was to replace the previous circulating recordings that had been dubbed from
cassettes and losing quality with each subsequent trade. Cassettes were the primary format for trading in the 70s. You can
imagine how many generations a cassette recording had to go through before reaching the 100th person during a trade.

With that said, there’s much in this recording to enjoy. There’s a very unusual moment when the band starts SPIRIT and then
stops and starts over again. LOST IN THE FLOOD is a nice rare treat, along with the beautiful violin playing by Suki Lahav
on INCIDENT and JUNGLELAND! Overall you can hear the intensity and energy of a young Bruce Springsteen and his almighty,
legendary E Street Band!

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

Speed adjustment needed, running too fast. Sides 1 & 3 adjusted with factor of 97.5%, but side 2 of tape running amazingly fast: factor of 90%. After adjustments, still some indications that speed may be a little slippy.
At 4:04 in Baby Can Dance there's a sudden deceleration (and more so four seconds later). Speed corrected whole section with factor of 106%, but could only do at single setting, as no accelerate/decelerate tool available.

JEMS is very pleased to issue this previously uncirculated recording
of an historically important and otherwise unheard show.

The recording from Kean College in Union, NJ is now the earliest
document we have of the "new look" E Street Band featuring Max
Weinberg on drums and Roy Bittan on piano. According to the essential
Brucebase Wiki, this free, outdoor show (which took place behind the
student center) was the fourth date played by the new line-up,
predating by 12 days Avery Fisher Hall, October 4, which had been the
first circulating recording with Max and Roy.

It gives us a fascinating glimpse into a period of transition for
Springsteen. As such, some of the arrangements heard here are
distinctive as the reconfigured band sorts out how to play the "basic"
set. While Bruce had previously performed songs in early 1974 that
would later appear on Born to Run, the only new material essayed at
Kean is a unique version of the Born to Run outtake "A Love So Fine,"
still in such an embryonic state that the chorus sung isn't "a love so
fine" at all, but another title rumored to have been recorded for BTR:
"A Night Like This." He also tags the end of the song with several
lyrics from the Isley Brothers' "Shout." According to Brucebase, by
the time the song is played again at Avery Fisher, the chorus had
changed to "A Love So Fine" for keeps.

The Kean tape also captures the earliest known cover of Sam Cooke's
"Cupid" and a particularly punchy full-band version of "For You," a
song Springsteen performed solo throughout most of 1974-75. Nearly
every track here is a little different than you're used to given that
two of the band members are still learning their parts.

Our generous taper, The Big A, says he used a "standard-for-the-time,
no-frills, fat-paperback-sized Radio Shack-type tape recorder with a
built-in mike" to record the show. That description seems to match the
tape, which has hallmarks of ALC (automatic level control) where the
first note of a song starts out loud and a bit distorted before the
level adjusts. There are some distorted frequencies in the recording
and it is not as good as the very best we have of the era. But
considering the circumstances (it was the first Bruce show he ever
taped), the outdoor venue, the gear, the PA volume, etc. it is quite a
listenable document of the performance. We worked hard to improve the
sound, but most of what you hear is just what it is. Samples provided.

Very special thanks to The Big A for loaning JEMS the master tape and
to the ER Archive, who had a copy of the show that helped lead us to

I literally have no specific information on this show. It was a CDr trade some years ago, but is awesomely clean. I've had several versions of this show and the 25th Anniversary recording has been my go to version for a while. What made me revisit this plain 2CDr set was the name scribble on the discs - "Silver Anniversary." I thought that this may just be a play on words, but alas it appears not. This recording is from the notes with the CDrs claim, to be a pre-fm recording from the KBFH. There are three mentions the KBFH within the show itself - none being over the music. However, it clearly states "from the Los Angeles Forum," which I know is incorrect. Except this show contains Future Times/Rejoice which sounds exactly like the rest of the show. There are several other differences - no BBC or Tommy Vance intros. No BBC or Tommy Vance outros. This show also contains Rick Wakeman's solo, the full version of Awaken and Madrigal which leads directly into On the Silent Wings of Freedom. All super clean recordings like the rest of the show.

Now I'm no audiophile, but I've compared (by listening) all other ROIO SBD/FM versions of Future Times/Rejoice that I have and NONE of them match what is on this recording. Maybe someone else can solve the mystery? The show is from Wembley, but the KBFH clearly states LA Forum. Could Future Times/Rejoice and the other "extras" mentioned above actually be from the LA Forum and mixed into the rest of the Wembley show by the KBFH? I don't know. You be the judge. Until then, enjoy this show for (what appears) to be the first time in its entirety.

I just wanted to say that technically this is Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. But, for the sake of consistency,
a lot of those early shows booked Bruce Springsteen as a solo act. Somewhere in the mid-seventies the ads for the venues
began mentioning the E Street Band. At this particular time the MC introduces just Bruce Springsteen.

This is 1974 Volume 4 of Joe Kivak’s master recordings. Here is a classic Bottom Line show and for the most part the sound
is pretty damn good! Rosalita is the only song that kind of goes off the deep end into an explosion of distortion. The
levels on the recorder must have been accidentally turned way up. The show kicks off with a great version of “Then She
Kissed Me” According to BruceBase Jungleland is cut, but here is the complete jazzy version! Sandy however, stays true to
being incomplete. Born To Run in it’s early stages has different lyrics. Listen for the line “And then watch the world
explode.” Having this early version of BTR is in itself worth having. The classic “No Money Down” is another rare song
that makes this show special. I would loved to have been at this show seeing Bruce Springsteen in such an intimate venue.
Wow, just look at the ticket scan on the artwork, it reads $5. Can you imagine paying 5 dollars to see Bruce Springsteen?
Wow, that was something!

Following on from the must-have Paris Left Breathless (3CD+2DVD) featuring a 1965 Paris concert, the M. Claudel label releases a new release capturing the band's 1964 French tour. The Beatles' true global fame began with the news that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" reached number one in the US during this Paris performance, followed by the success of their first American tour. While large-scale concerts became the norm thereafter due to capacity constraints, until this French tour, the band's name was limited to the UK and a small part of Europe. This release captures the 1964 French tour, just before they made their international debut.

This French tour was a grueling one, spanning a short period from January 15th to February 4th, 1964, with two shows per day every night, except for two dates on January 21st and January 28th. The schedule felt like an extension of their time as local stars, before they achieved popularity. While the setlist for this French tour is still unclear, and audio and video recordings are limited, I hope that the materials included on this album will help shed light on this historic page. One theory suggests that this year's French tour not only featured different sets for each day, but also different setlists for day and night. This likely represented rehearsals for the band's upcoming first American performance. I hope that this album will inspire those who pick up this album to delve deeper into their own research and unravel the mystery. I believe this 1964 French tour is well worth the effort.

Only the first day of the tour took place in Versailles, with all subsequent performances taking place at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. Since Versailles was the first day, recordings and filming were reportedly conducted there, but the audio and video recordings have rarely been available until now. This album not only includes never-before-seen fragments, but also includes color footage from the Olympia Theatre in Paris and never-before-seen footage, providing a comprehensive look at the tour.

Let's start with the audio recordings. Opening the set is a performance in Versailles on January 15, 1964. This is, of course, a first-time recording. It features recordings of Torini Lopez and Silvie Vartan, who opened for The Beatles. Sylvie Vartan's "Love Shock" is a familiar song, even released as a single in Japan. The Beatles only performed one song on the first night in Versailles, "From Me To You." At the end, you can clearly hear him strumming his guitar and saying "Thank You." It's rare to see such an MC over the song.

Next is a recording from the Paris Olympia concert on January 16. This is the first recording unearthed in the last decade or so to be recorded with accurate pitch and closer to the master recording. Paul excels in "I Saw Her Standing There," pushing his voice to its limits and varying the vocal technique to create a rare, passionate performance. Both "Twist and Shout" and "Long Tall Sally" end with "From Me To You," played as the curtain falls at the end of the show. These two songs likely served as the endings for both the daytime and evening shows. The different endings suggest that various setlists were being experimented with during that year's France tour. Since "Long Tall Sally" begins with vocals, the intro features a guitar countdown similar to that featured on "AROUND THE BEATLES."

Next is the recording from the Paris Olympia concert on January 19th. This includes one opening song by TORINI LOPEZ, a different song from the Versailles concert. Finally, the Beatles include five songs plus the ending "From Me To You." While these tracks have been familiar since the vinyl era, the CD era has seen such a significant improvement in quality, making it astonishing considering how much they've improved since then. Also included is recordings from the Paris Olympia concert on January 22nd. These include "This Boy," which plays in the background while the narrator speaks, and "Long Tall Sally" and "Twist and Shout," which are recorded midway through the tour. While these are fragments, they are all previously unreleased.

While numerous recordings of the 1964 Paris concert have been released, many have had iffy dates or jumbled track listings. Of course, this is understandable, considering the tour's exact setlist and even the songs played are unknown. However, this release meticulously examines these recordings and presents the most accurate dates and track order possible. The latter half of the disc also features interviews.

Next is the video DVD. As always, the groundbreaking feature of the M. Claudel label's Live Chronicle series is its ability to unearth footage. Many fans look forward to never-before-seen and high-quality footage each time. This release, featuring footage from the 1964 France tour, does not disappoint. First up is footage from the January 15th Versailles concert. The curtain rises to begin the concert, and George's presence at the front reveals that the opening song was "Roll Over Beethoven." We also see John and Paul singing "I Saw Her Standing There" side by side, and the three of them standing at the microphone for "This Boy." The most surprising footage is the close-up footage, almost as if it were filmed onstage. It includes close-ups of Paul singing "From Me To You," Paul strumming his bass, Ringo smiling as he drums, and even a shot of John directly to the side onstage, from behind. The most striking feature is the perfect synchronization of the video and audio. Of course, the audio from the Paris Olympia concert is used where there's no audio, but the performance is nearly identical, making it seamless and, above all, almost like a silent film brought to life.

All of the footage from the Paris Olympia concert is from the January 16th show. The opening curtain opens to George's "Roll Over Beethoven," but it's in color. Vivid color footage from a 1964 concert in France! It's amazing that something like this even exists. It's like a moving photograph, like the Beatles in their suits from the black-and-white era. Considering that even color photographs of stage performances from this era are rare, this footage is truly priceless. Other footage, edited from previously black-and-white footage, recreates the Paris Olympia concert as closely as possible. There's also a scene at the end where Paul leaps back to his post, and a scene where he desperately delivers a MC in French. Also, while a scene from the Melbourne concert, John, impersonating a disabled person to rouse the audience, was featured in "Anthology," this footage from Paris also includes a similar scene. It's surprising to learn that John had been performing these tasteless jokes for so long. Again, the audio is perfectly synchronized with the video, allowing for seamless concert viewing. In addition to the performance scenes, the DVD also includes extensive footage from the time, including reels of footage of the Beatles strolling the streets of Paris and scenes inside and outside the venue. Shot as news footage from the time, the footage is shot from a journalistic perspective, showcasing not only the concert itself, but also the Beatles' personal lives, their fans, and their immense popularity in France. The tour documentary follows the tour chronologically, following the Beatles' departure from London's Heathrow Airport, their arrival at a French airport, their journey to their hotel, and their return to London after the tour.

This is the latest installment in M. Claudel's Live Chronicle series, a culmination of the 1964 French tour. This complete set includes never-before-seen audio and video. It also includes never-before-seen footage of Versailles and color footage of Paris. And what's more, it's of this quality. Be sure to get this along with "PARIS LEFT BREATHLESS" (3CD+2DVD), which features the 1965 Paris concert. This meticulous recording of the Beatles' early years before they ventured out into the world shows that their first tour of France that year must have been a special one for them. This is a beautifully pressed, permanently preserved edition with a beautiful picture disc.

OK, this one's a little different. Ruud upped the version of this from the double silver on 13th Feb 2009; which in turn was taken and torrented on dime by tvc15_it two years later (which is where I got it from).

Immediately I listened to it, I was taken by what good quality it seemed to be, but hidden under an unbelievable layer of thick hiss. Out came iZotope RX denoiser tool.
Sure enough, it's very clear underneath the murk. Hint of tidal sound on first side (eccentric tape at some stage in the past), but it's beautiful on side 2 (Width Of A Circle onwards).
Sector boundary errors checked using TLH, but no amendments required.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He also had a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as lesser-known acts.

Dan never traded copies of his recordings, although he did give some copies away to friends. These releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever circulated, and are direct from his master cassettes.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
