A Second Ulla Popken Product Review

As I mentioned a couple of days ago I had the opportunity to do some product reviews for Ulla Popken. See my previous post about the Colour Block Knit Dress.

When I was contacted by Babe Hope about doing a product review she asked me to send her a list of a few of the items I might be interested in. I was actually quite embarrassed by the long list (I didn't want to seem greedy) but I also wanted her to know that there were quite a few pieces - and that is a good thing.

Ulla Popken has been working hard to provide more contemporary styles and I think it is obvious when you peruse their website. If you are interested here are some of the items that appeared on my list:

Plus these two items that I actually received; the Striped Swing Sweater and the Wide Leg Denim Trousers. Both of these are from their new Spring line.

I can foresee myself getting a lot of wear out of this Striped Swing Sweater once the warmer weather comes. It has 3/4 length sleeves and is lightweight so on a cool summers eve I think it will be perfect. I especially like the stripes, I thought the pattern added more interest then just a plain solid sweater would.

I also think there is a lot of versatility with this sweater; jeans, white linen pants, crisp white blouse, white tee, sandals, heels... the list is endless.

It washes up nicely after bring washed in cold water and hung to dry plus the fit is true to size. I am so happy with this piece.

The third piece I was sent to review was the Wide Legged Denim Trousers. When these showed up I was surprised to find they had an elastic waist at the back. That was 100% my mistake. Upon reading the product description again I did see where it is mentioned online.

What I loved most about these pants was the dark colour. Having the option to wear a nice dark denim in place of black dress pants is always nice. Again in the spring and summer these pants will be great to have. The fabric is very light and airy again a nice change from wearing jeans in warmer weather.

My two issues with these pants are the elastic waist, I prefer a full fabric waist and that the fabric stretched after wearing them. At the end of the night they were much more loose then when I had initially put them on. Once they had stretched they seem to be too big, whereas I would have said before wearing them they were true to size.

The material is 100% cotton so I thought they might snap back to the original shape after washing them in cold and hanging them to dry but that was not the case. One last drawback was they will need to be ironed after washing. Again that is 100% me not reading 100% cotton in the description.

By combining these two pieces you can have a new fresh spring look. I have collected a few different pieces to show you how versatile this outfit is and how you can mix and match accessories to create a variety of different looks:

Today, the boot is more fashionable than ever. This is especially important for us plus sized women, as the wrong boot with the wrong outfit could make our legs look short and dumpy, instead of let us keep their natural length or help us create the illusion of longer legs. Ankle Boots

You can choose from a flat, short or high heeled ankle boot style when putting together your outfit. Consider the occasion and how long you need to be on your feet, or what terrain you will encounter. If there’s a lot of walking involved, you’d be better off with a smaller heel or flats. Also consider canvas, suede, leather and faux leather types when integrating them into your outfits of the day. All of these styles will compliment your jeans, pants, dress or skirt, giving you a trendy and on the go look.

Mid-Calf Boots
Western stars made the Western mid-calf boot a hit by pairing them with shorts or short skirts. Now you see a wide range of choices in the mid-calf boot from those popular suede fleece-lined and sheepskin boots to other popular pull-on suede, leather and faux leather styles. They can be paired with leggings, shorts, mini-skirts, long skirts and dresses as well as capri pants. Regarding dresses, I’d again keep to the short rule. Skirts can be longer, providing they’re not too clingy or a pencil skirt. Long skirts, which flow with your movements, are best suited for mid-calf boots. An option for this style is the currently popular petticoat skirt. The various styles available have made the mid-calf boot a great fashion choice among the trendsetters. Mid-calf boots are a versatile wardrobe item to own and will allow you to add some flair to your daily outfit choices.

Knee High Boots
The classic knee high boot is suitable for almost any look. This boot, whether heeled or not, is fantastic to go with any outfit you own. They are comfortable under skirts and are particularly good choices when you are tucking in jeans or pants for a modern style. They are the most practical and stylish choice for winter, and can also be combined well with work wear, especially a suit. They have been and always will be a must for every woman’s wardrobe.

Over Knee Boots
Over knee boots are making a comeback. For the daring among us, they are a must have, and come in a wide range of fabrics and materials, pull-on or lace up styles and can be heeled or flat. For a different look you can flip them down, keeping your admirers on their toes, to what you are going to do with them next. With this style of boot, it is important that you team them with clothing that complements the look. A pair of jeans or leggings and a chunky knit jumper would look great with over knee boots. Avoid dresses and skirts, as they highlight the boot too much, making it overbearing and a little tacky looking. A Product Review for Ulla Popken

I was recently contacted by Babe Hope from Ulla Popken. Babe is an author, stylist, personal shopper and blogger. She asked me if I would be interested in doing a product review for Ulla Popken.

I was unfamiliar with Ulla Popken having only visited the site a few times so I was excited for the opportunity. When I went to the site to do some research I was pleasantly surprised. I have since learned that the president of Ulla Popken has been working very hard to improve the whole line; making it more contemporary in style, more accurate fit, and better fabrication.

I would have to say that what they are doing is working. I found a lot of things that I think would fit well into my closet. Is it high fashion? No, but that isn't who their market is - it is plus size women over 40 (unfortunately yes I do fit into this category). I do think that even women under 40 could easily find pieces they would enjoy.

I think you will find a number of pieces with great potential. I say potential because I do think some of the styling could be done differently, the silhouette seen on the models appears to be the same throughout the site. When shopping and see you something interesting consider what it might look like with a wide belt, a scarf, a chunky necklace, numerous bracelets, tights - look for the potential.

Babe asked me to send her some ideas of items that I might be interested in. I was actually quite embarrassed by the numerous items on the list but I thought it was important she know - hey there are a lot of great things here. ( I will share my complete list in my next posting)

I left it to Babe to decide what she wanted me to review. On December 23rd (perfect timing) a package arrived with three pieces in it. One of which was this Colour Block Knit Dress

I have had the opportunity to wear this dress a couple of times and love it. Comfortable, comfortable, comfortable while being stylish. The sizing was perfect but what I loved the most was the fabric. I thought it was like a jersey knit but it is actually a blend of rayon and spandex making it super soft and resilient. I hate when jersey dresses stretch out after you have worn it half a day - nope not this one. For a true product test I actually wore it to my nieces 1st birthday. I was on the floor playing games with the kids, in the kitchen cooking and relaxing chatting with friends. By the end of the day it still looked great and kept its shape. As an aside I was asked if I had lost weight -nope, just a flattering dress.

Typically a straight knit dress like this may not necessarily be flattering without a belt or some to create a silhouette but the way the colour blocking is used in the design it actually makes the eye see a silhouette. The green and black point up bringing the attention to the chest and the waist is minimized because it appears your waist is only as wide as the black.

One of the other reasons I chose this dress is the potential I saw in it. There are so many ways you can wear this dress casual and dressy so I have put together a grouping of various accessories you could potentially wear with it.

I should also add that after a wash, it kept it's shape. I washed it in cold and hung it to dry. Easy to care for clothing, it doesn't get any better!

An Interview With Designer Karen Kane

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Karen Kane. I love to hear about people who follow their passion to make a dream come true. Read all about Karen's story...

Tell me how you started designing? And for how long?
I grew up loving clothes, and I learned to sew when I was young so I always designed things I'd wear myself. When I graduated high school, I moved to Los Angeles to attend FIDM. That's where I learned about pattern making and the fashion industry more broadly. After graduating from FIDM, I worked as a pattern maker for a few years, which is how I met my husband. We worked together, and after a couple years, we decided to start our own company. The first season of Karen Kane shipped at the end of 1979, so I guess that's when I "officially" started designing!

Can you describe the clothing Karen Kane offers?
I believe in clothing that's versatile enough to last several seasons, yet fashionable enough to be of-the-moment. We're known for our clothing's comfort, ease, and longevity. I want women to not only look good in what they wear, but also to feel great while they're wearing it.

Karen Kane provides clothing in regular and plus sizes. Why did you venture into the plus size market?
We started our women's division in 1999, after we received a lot of requests from customers for it. We really felt like there was a void in the market for women who wanted clothing that was not only flattering but also updated and fashion-forward at the same time.

When designing for the plus size woman is there anything you focus on or try to accomplish with your designs?
We always want to create a cohesive and complete collection so that our women's customers have as many options as possible. I think it's always important to balance the basics with some more trend-driven statement pieces each season. I like to think we try to provide a little for everyone - basic tees and tanks for our customers who love our core essentials, as well as a lot of great fashion pieces that are long-lasting enough to work for several seasons.

What is your approach to design for each season?
It totally varies by season! Sometimes I'm inspired by a color story, other times it might be a print or pattern that I fall in love with. For holiday, I love all the rich colors paired back to neutrals. You'll see a huge burst of color this spring...that's my favorite thing about fashion - there's never a formula!

If you had to pick one or two of your favourite pieces from this seasons collection which would they be?
It's tough to pick just a couple, but if I had to, I'd say one would be the faux fur shawl collar jacket - it's a stunning piece that you'll want to own forever. The metallic drop shoulder pullover is another one I'd say is a must-have this season - metallics are everywhere this year!

What do you think is a must have for this season?
Anything sequined, metallic, furry, and FUN! There are so many great over-the-top pieces this season, that I think it's the perfect time to try something new you might never have considered before. I always suggest taking one thing into the dressing room with you that you think you'd never wear...I always find myself discovering new styles that later become staples for me. It's a great way to keep things fresh and exciting.

I called all my favourite shopping friends and we all met at SexyPlus Clothing on a Friday night. We were greeted with a smile from Stefanie (boutique owner) as always and we jumped into shopping immediately.

k,k, - back to the topic… I think it is easy to get stuck in a rut trying on the same sort of cut, style even colour but keeping an open mind of suggestions from your friends will help you to avoid that style rut. I figure they are not going to steer me wrong, they have to be seen with me!

A Product Review of Neon Budha and Pure Handknit

I was given the privilege of doing a product review for two companies: neon budha and Pure HandKnit, sold separately but distributed by the same company.

You have seen more and more companies becoming more socially aware and ethical in how they do business and these two companies are leading the industry. Here is how…

Although Canadian designed, the clothing is manufactured in Chiang Mai with a focus on women. These women are given the opportunity to benefit from the core ethical working standards which are company paid health care, maternity leave and continuing education which includes English classes for not only staff but also their family and friends.

Both companies are also environmental conscious using solar power to heat hot water, Thailand staff are kept cool and Canadian staff warm by installing extra insulation, and dozens of trees have been planted to offset their carbon air foot print.

And if that wasn’t enough they donate 1% of each sale to various organizations plus any excess yarn and fabric is donated to non-governmental women’s organizations to be used to generate income.

Now let’s look at each company individually starting with Pure Handknit. Made with 100% cotton yarn, what is so unique about Pure Handknit is that each piece is individually knit by hand by 3500 women knitters in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Handknit! I know, I was surprized to learn this too. It is rare to find an entire line of clothing knitted by hand.

I LOVE the two sweaters they sent me which were both in cream colour:

They look great; they fit to size (offering women’s sizes in 1X-3X) and wash perfectly. I washed both on gentle, with cold water and hung them to dry. I was so happy to find they kept their shape.

The look and the quality of each piece is gorgeous to say the least. I can’t express how the quality is really what makes these pieces. You would expect to find sweaters like this to be WAY more expensive.

When I was initially asked to do a product review I was secretly hoping I would get one of each piece to try, I loved everything in their line. For a knitwear company their styles are fashion forward and unique. Here are just a couple of my favourites from their line:

Now to neon budha, their tagline is nirvana for your body and soul. They offer lifestyle clothing for travel, work, home and yoga. Made from 100% preshrunk cotton blends, this line is for women looking to be comfortable but stylish. Using an amazing mix of colours neon budha has made knitwear something completely acceptable to wear to the office and not just something you wear to run out and get groceries.

Again, the sizing was true to size (1X-3X), washes great, and cozy, cozy, cozy. When I wear the shirts I received from neon budha I can’t help from rubbing my arms. The material is so soft; they are my favourites to pull on for a chilly fall day. I know you can’t see me but I am wearing one right now!

A Thank You from My Friend, Michelle.

As you may remember, one of my friends lost everything in a fire recently. I sent out an email asking for donations.

True to the human spirit, when someone is in need people come together to help however they can. We were blown away by the generous donations from friends, family and even strangers. Each member of her family was outfitted from the donations received.

Michelle has asked me to send out a thank you to all who donated clothes, accessories, shoes and gift certificates to help her family. She would like to send out a couple extra special thank yous to:

I was recently contacted by Julie, one of the partners at Ashaki Charles Designs. She wanted to introduce me to their up and coming company that is based out of Toronto.

As you know I love to support Canadian businesses as much as I can so I sent Julie a few questions to help us learn more about Ashaki Charles Designs. Here is our online interview:

Tell me a little bit about your clothing line.The line is an on-trend, vintage-inspired collection of feminine pieces. May-December, our debut collection, includes gowns, maxi dresses, mini dresses and jumpsuits. Our clothing is figure-flattering; whether flowing or structured, made to compliments every silhouette.

How did the two of you get started in the fashion industry?
We started out making our own jewellery because we had a difficult time finding contemporary pieces available for plus size women. When compliments turned to requests, we began designing and selling our creations, leading to opportunities to accessorize fashion shows and photo shoots.

What do you think your clothing line brings to the Canadian plus size woman?
Ashaki Charles Designs brings Canadian plus size women the option to wear the same designer clothing as their smaller counterparts. A few mainstream designers have launched plus sized lines, but the clothes are always different to those in available in smaller sizes – the material, style, price; you name it.

As a Toronto based design company, where do you see the plus size clothing industry heading?
We see the industry headed for expansion and acceptance. There’s no reason why Canadian women have to do almost all of their shopping overseas and across the border. There are only a handful of major retailers in Canada carrying plus size clothing and three out of five are owned by the same parent company.

I see you were chosen as one of a few designers to feature your line at Full Figured Fashion Week 2011 in New York. What was that experience like?
It was a great experience. We were able to participate in a whole list of activities including industry parties, fittings and of course the runway show. The backstage rush is completely different when your name is on the line.

And what response and/or positive things have happened since attending Full Figured Fashion Week?
We met some great people at FFFWeek and we’ve kept in touch. We’ve participated in the NAAFA (National Association for the Advancement of Fat Acceptance) 2011 Conference in DC, The Fuller Woman Expo in Detroit, FNO Plus in Virginia, The Clothing Show at Toronto’s Exhibition Place and at Pop-Up Plus in New York.

Your clothing seems to be made for a curvy figure however your product is available in sizes 2-32. Do you begin by designing for a fuller figure and scale down the size or vice versa?
We design our clothes with various women in mind. The beautiful thing is that all women have curves, some just have more than others. The larger the size, the more curves our clothes facilitate. When we select one of our designs to go into production, we ensure it’s one that will appeal and compliment women of any size.

What can we expect from Ashaki Charles Designs in the coming future?
You can expect more high quality vintage-inspired pieces, continued use of colour, clean lines and the introduction of separates.

Aside from your website where else can find your designs?
Ashaki Charles Designs can also be found at SexyPlus Clothing in Toronto. They are also going to be available in Atlanta, GA in the near future.

It has been awhile since I updated my list of places to shop on my website PlusSizeFashion.ca I am happy to say there are a few new Canadian stores. Shopping for plus size women in Canada keeps looking brighter.

After A Fire, My Friend Is In Need Of Your Clothes!

A dear friend of mine lost her home in a fire yesterday; 90% of it was destroyed. What was left is damaged by smoke and water. She has literally lost everything. Her voice mail this morning was asking me if I had any clothes that she might be able to have.

Michelle is someone who would be the first on my doorstep if it had happened to me so I want to help her however I can. I believe in a time of need we have to access all of our resources and that is why I have turned to you.

VIP Shopping with Penningtons

Sorry for the delay in telling you about my VIP Penningtons event. I am sure you can understand that the life of a VIP can get very busy :)

I should start by saying it has been sometime since I have been shopping in a Penningtons store. I check out what they have online regularly but actually visiting a store - it really has been awhile.

Penningtons invited a number of local Plus Size Bloggers and customers to the Heartland store in Mississauga for a new shopping experience and to be "Styled to Surprise".

I would highly recommend you make the trip to Mississauga to visit Ester (Store Manager) and her staff at the Heartland store. They knew their merchandise and were eager to help, but not "too" eager - if you know what I mean.

I was greeted with a refreshment and let loose to go shopping. There were appies, a DJ, a make-up artist, stylists and a fireman. Hmmmm, curious right?

While shopping I was asked if I had been to the fitting room to see the surprize. My response was, unless it is that fireman waiting for me in the fitting room, I am in no hurry. (Sorry honey, he was a fireman dressed in fireman gear!)

Surprise!

It was firemen in the fitting room but not like you think (or wish). The big reveal was an innovative mirror that when you stood on a mat it would prompt a video scenario to start with two firemen appearing in the mirror with you. They flirt, offer you champagne all the while your reaction is being captured electronically, ending with you having an option to share it all on Facebook.

I did find it odd, why would I want to share my shopping for clothes with someone I haven't seen since Gr. 3? (insert sarcastic tone now, "Thanks again Facebook for reconnecting us!") Conveniently, while I was in the fitting room there were a number of technical glitches so I never had to step on the mat. When I shop for clothes, I shop alone. I grab my pieces, try them on, and I don't leave the fitting room unless I need a different size.

Typically I don't have my hair or make-up done, I don't have the right shoes, I leave my socks on when trying on dresses - the process is not a pretty one. I would rather the first time my friends see my new clothes be when I have completed the entire look.

Maybe I am just showing my age, not sure, but if this is something you might find fun go check it out. The "mirror of men" will be at the Heartland store for 3 months.

Now to the good stuff: shopping! Penningtons very graciously gave us $150 to spend that night and with the extra 20% off New Arrivals, my fashion math calculates that to be $180 in new clothes.

I was honestly Styled to Surprise when I started shopping! Previously, Penningtons wasn't on my go-to-list for clothing. While I have found pieces there in the past, I would often find a cut or style I liked but would wonder why they would use such an unflattering pattern or colour.

It was obvious they have worked really hard to change this perception. I found the clothes to be younger, flattering and stylish. One of the reasons I started this website and blog was out of frustration and not being able to find stylish clothes. With the largest plus size chain stores all being owned by the same company I felt our hands were tied. I do believe they have heard our cry for something different.

I now see Penningtons as a company who offers on-trend clothes without being too trendy.

I think I am your average 40+ (eeks!) woman who just wants to have clothes that are fashionable and flattering. I am not in my 20's, I don't have to or want to wear "off the runway" styles; you will never see me in purple skinny jeans. (Oh boy, never say never!) Silhouette is more important to me than wearing a designer name. I also expect to get a season or two out of my clothing purchases. I really think Penningtons hit the mark on all accounts.

Their Fall styles offer a good jumping off point. The styles work such that that by adding accessories and mixing and matching you can create a unique style of your own.

I usually wait until late September/October to go shopping for Fall so shopping this early was a treat. I had my pick of styles, colours and sizes. On my third round in the fitting room I wondered why I hadn't shopped in August before!

Everything I tried on fit, I actually had so much stuff I consulted with the stylists Giselle and Sebastion to help me weed down my purchases. It was honestly the best shopping experience at Penningtons I have ever had.

I left with 2 dresses, a sweater, jeans, a top, and a tank for a total of $260, minus the $180 I had to spend, it only cost me $80. I love everything I bought and got two thumbs up during my mini fashion show for "the dude" and my MIL (Mother-in-Law).

I will share my purchases with you later. When I went online they didn't have everything listed and I didn't think the pictures did them justice. Not to mention I have been droning on and on in this blog post.

I will end this post with a suggestion to check out Penningtons. If you haven't been there for awhile I think you will be "Styled to Surprise"

I'm A VIP Don't Ya Know?

I know I was surprized to learn this too but I am very excited. Penningtons has invited me to a VIP event this Thursday evening.

It is quite hush hush as to what it is about. I have only been told to be prepared to be amazed and that I will be one of the first to see an "innovative in-store installation". What is that you ask? I don't know BUT it sure sounds interesting and something I don't want to miss.

There is also going to be hors d'oeuvres, professional styling and make-up - sounds like my kind of event. I will be sure to take lots of pics and tell you all about it.

My fun so far has been announcing to "the dude" everyday how I can't do things because I am a VIP. "I am sorry, you want dinner made? Sorry VIP's don't make dinner" And just incase you are wondering... VIP's don't do dishes, dust, sweep, or walk the dog, but they do expect fresh coffee and warm croissants brought to them in bed.

Strangely, I have heard a few times this VIP thing is going to my head. Hmmm, maybe I should be more concerned about my head instead of my hips no longer fitting through the doorway.

Here are some of the best patterns, styles, cuts and fabrics to keep you looking stylish and sexy all summer long.

Plus size women may find bathing suit season the big uneasy. Remember, your body is perfect just the way it is! Your curves are a sign of your femininity and beauty. Be bold this summer, feeling sexy and confident, is to believe that you are. You have the right to love your body and to feel strong and beautiful at all times.

The first order of business, “Go With It!” The styles and patterns that best optimise a beautiful feminine body are ones that harmonize with your curves. For instance, go with a more rounded or curved pattern to better match your shape.

If you wear a straighter pattern, such as vertical or horizontal lines, they may be fighting against your natural curves. The straighter pattern will stand out on your body, creating less harmony and look more detached and rigid. Diagonal lines can replace horizontal or vertical. Diagonal lines are less widening than horizontal, and less lengthening then vertical. They can often work very well as a substitute, depending on your body type. I would suggest patterns that have more flow, ease and curve, such as pokadots, floral prints and paisleys.

Remember the law of contrast. In contrasting sizes, the differences are emphasized. When a small scale is next to a large scale it will appear smaller and the larger scale will appear larger. I would suggest keeping patterns on a larger scale. Rather then having a tiny print, be bold and do a larger print. Your body can handle it and it will be a better fit and more flattering.

This same concept of “Go with It” also applies to the best cuts and styles for your body. When dressing for the office, a light cotton Lenin blazer with a shall collar may have more harmony and match your body’s softness, opposed to a jacket with a straight angled lapel.

For casual, stick with summer tees that have a rounded neckline. A beautiful cowl neck is stunning on a woman with a larger chest depth. The flow and drape of the fabric, will match the beauty of your curves.

If you have a more “A” shape body type, wear skirts and trousers that flow away from the body. If you have a less extreme “A” shape, a straighter skirt and trouser may be in better proportion.

Generally avoid pleats in your trousers and skirts they will create more width and bulk.

When it comes to finding the perfect summer time beach bathing suit, look for styles that support you. A soft halter top or sweetheart neckline with a criss-cross backing may be supportive and flattering. Tank-inis and one piece bathing suit may flatter your body type well. A solid colour bathing suit may be less distracting and create a more uniform look.

When it comes to fabrics, choose more natural fibres, such as cotton or silk blends. Steer clear of fabrics that are too clingy, they will only create an unflattering look. Cotton has good strength and abrasion resistance. It absorbs moisture quickly and is quick to dry which provides a cooling effect.

Silk also has excellent drape and luxurious hand. It is the thinnest of natural fibres. It is breathable and lightweight.

No matter what it is your shopping for this summer, remember the three keys.

Number one... choose patterns that match the scale and curve of your natural body.
Number two... find cuts and styles that best optimise your body type by mirroring your body shape rather then wearing styles that are fighting against you.
Number three... look for fabrics with natural fibre blends, they will be the most cool and comfortable for summer time heat.

OneStopPlus.com Now Shipping To Canada!

Wow I thought I was sleeping at the wheel yesterday when I stumbled onto OneStopPlus.com and read they were shipping international! I wondered how long that had been happening without my knowledge.

Today I learned it was announced yesterday, phew, I feel much better and don't feel like I have been missing out.

If you are not familiar with OneStopPlus.com they are a marketplace for plus size woman and men. Basically, it is a one-stop shop for all of their Redcats brands which include Woman Within, AVENUE, Jessica London, King Size (for men), and Roaman's.

Since their launch in 2007 they have also added online retailers to their offering also Torrid, Igigi, Kiyonna, Ulla Popken and more.

When reading their shipping policies alot of the existing online retailers do not ship internationally through OneStopPlus.com. I recommend reading their specifics before placing an order.

Slipping Bra Strap Solution and a Giveaway

A cure for slipping straps? I know right!

I was recently contacted by Paula from the StrapDoctor to try her innovative product. She provides a simple solution to stop bra straps that slide down your shoulder.

Now sometimes you may be going for this look (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) but most times it is annoying, frustrating and can totally turn a “look” from good to bad really fast.

I received my package and was happy to find each comes with 2pairs; 1 narrow and 1 regular width.

Instructions were really simply...

1. remove from package – done.

2. insert under each strap – easy peasy.

3. oh I am done already – no slipping bra straps.

The material is a like a clear rubbery plastic, smooth on one side, rough textured on the other. It is this texture that sticks to your bra strap. The smooth side goes against your skin.

They are super comfortable. Now I have to say with these girls, 46 Long J I don’t typically have problems with bra straps slipping but a few of my bras will move around enough to be annoying. These are the ones I used the Strap Doctor on and it was great. No slippage, so comfortable you forget they are even there.

And that is what I THOUGHT was the only drawback but it turns out that isn’t a problem either. At night getting ready for bed I undressed and forgot about them. Just as I was falling asleep I remembered, and jumped up to make sure I didn’t lose them. Later I learned from Paula that the straps are designed and tested to stay on even in the wash. Yes, they are reusable so I do recommend you keep the packaging to use as a place holder for them when not in use.

The StrapDoctor also works with dress straps, tank tops and probably any other clothing that just won’t stay on your shoulder.

I appreciated the opportunity to try this cool product but what impressed me most was the story of how Paula came up with the idea. Inside the packaging is her full story. I will give you the really fast version… as a farmer in P.E.I. Paula would get frustrated with her bra strap sliding all the time while she worked. She decided to fix the problem which was inspired by shelf liner material.
