I’m an avid road cyclist. I spend a lot of time on the streets near my home on Long Island, motoring up the steepest hills the North Shore has to offer, going as fast as I can down them. It’s fun, it’s healthy exercise, and a great way to get some fresh air.

Until you crash

I had a bad accident a couple of weeks ago. My brakes locked up winding around a hairpin turn going 32 mph, I slid 20 feet on my hip and elbow. It could have been worse, I didn’t break anything, and thank goodness there were no cars coming in the opposite direction, or it could have been much worse.

My healthcare coverage didn’t have to kick in, I was ok (save for a bit of road rash – painful). But having that healthcare safety net is key to my peace of mind, and it protects my family and millions of Americans from crushing healthcare bills.

Every year on November 1st through December 15th, Americans have a chance to reevaluate their healthcare options and change their plans according to their needs. Called Open Enrollment, this time of year is crucial for health insurers, as it’s the one chance every 12 months to attract new members. After the year in which we’ve all been so focused on our health and wellness, we still need to think about how we care for ourselves and our families.

Some of the most interesting and significant PMD Media work in the past few years has been run on behalf of the healthcare industry. Hyper-local campaigns with multi-lingual creative, vaccine awareness in specific towns and counties, medicare initiatives targeting first responders – we’ve been tasked with all kinds of outreach, and some of the most innovative OOH strategy out there (shout out to our agency partners Kinetic, Rapport, Horizon, Talon & Billups, and our media partner Adkom).

Don’t forget about Open Enrollment on November 1st this year – ending on December 15th. It’s the best way to choose a new health plan, or modify your existing coverage.

Please reach out if you or your healthcare clients are looking for hyper-local awareness on a national scale. And for goodness sake, wear a helmet if you’re going cycling!

To know the legend of the Brooklyn Academy of Music is to understand the nature of America’s best performance and multi-arts centers as they once were, and as they promise to be.

Since 1861, the Borough of Brooklyn has grown up around BAM, and was shaped in part by the pull of its considerable gravity. Decades before there was Lincoln Center, Wallis Annenberg, or Kennedy Center, there was BAM.

Dance, Film, Theater, Music, Visual Art, Opera, Talks, and Community Events, all come together in one central square.

Past BAM artists have included Enrico Caruso, Sarah Bernhardt, Merce Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, and Jay Z. BAM has hosted numerous live TV events, like MTV’s Unplugged and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. BAM’s annual Next Wave Festival changes the performing arts landscape, year after year.

And then 2020 happened, a year we all want to forget, but a bright light is shining in Fort Greene once again, as we turn the page.

BAM is back. With a season relaunch unlike anything else in its history, BAM is taking it outside to another one of Brooklyn’s historic landmarks, developing a wide-ranging slate of outdoor affairs for the coming season, including 1:1 Concerts, a Pop-Up Magazine event, and Movement Theatre Company’s production of Aleshea Harris’s play What to Send Up When It Goes Down, presented in partnership with Playwrights Horizons.

The City of New York, and indeed the rest of the country are lucky to have institutions that continue to form the fabric of what culture and community mean in the modern age.

PMD Media and our family of friends and colleagues are overjoyed at the return of such an institution.

Welcome back!

Want to return to the days before Covid-19? Get the vaccine. That’s the message. Plain. Simple.

The images are just as simple – people together, unmasked, happy. Wouldn’t it be great to get back to those normal moments?

Centura Health, a leading health care provider in Colorado and Western Kansas, was focused on encouraging people to get vaccinated.

Out-of-Home was the one-to-many medium just right to reach people. But there was a problem; the neighborhoods where Centura wanted their messages to be seen have extremely limited OOH options, a common occurrence outside the top U.S. markets.

Fortunately, Rapport Worldwide knew who to call. In the key cities of Pueblo Colorado, and Garden City Kansas, PMD Media, in partnership with Rapport, pinpointed locals in their towns and neighborhoods, displaying storefront WindowPosters along main streets in small businesses.

How can we help your clients? Shoot us back an email today, it would be fantastic hearing from you!

Every night, more than 30,000 people across the Bay Area don’t have a place to sleep. Black and LGBTQ people are disproportionately represented in that number, far exceeding their percentage of the general population. No single government, business or community organization could tackle the issue alone, it takes an entire community.

Asking a simple question leads to some startling answers, and possible solutions.

WHY do so many San Franciscans not have a home in their hometown?
WHY haven’t we solved homelessness by now?
WHY should you care?

The “All In” campaign is simple enough, money alone won’t house all their neighbors (Tipping Point Community will spend $100 million by 2022). The initiative seeks to win hearts and minds as well, asking people of all types to open their homes, talk with their neighbors and their landlords, utilize the existing vacant housing today. Quite literally urging residents to open their doors to those most in need.

It takes an average of 5-7 years for new housing to be built in San Fransisco, but thousands of homes are vacant tonight.

Tipping Point Community, their agency Billups Worldwide and PMD Media have teamed up for a hyper-local ad campaign seen in small business storefronts throughout 8 neighborhoods.

Combining PMD WindowPoster Display and PMD Digital Integration, mobile ads are served in the same neighborhoods where storefront billboards are seen.

Devoted to patient care, education, and research, and in the wake of COVID-19, NYU Langone wanted to assure all patients that they were safe visiting their doctors and seeking treatment.

The NYU Langone Brooklyn location at 60th Street in Sunset Park Brooklyn caters to women at all stages of life, fitting into busy schedules with Sunday appointments and walk- in availability. Because the location is in the heart of Chinatown Brooklyn, doctors and staff members speak both English and Chinese, and communicate with patients in their preferred language.

First off, this is NOT a depressing post about Covid-19.

This is a hopeful story about how one great American city is taking a stand, and asking its residents to do something to help keep their neighborhoods vibrant.

Life in Seattle has changed since March, with downtowns eerily quiet, commuters working from home, and tourism almost nonexistent.

Normally tasked with bringing in tourists from out of town, Visit Seattle is looking inward, to the residents and locals of the city and its surrounding neighborhoods, to shop, eat, browse, and support the small businesses in their community.

With the help of the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority (RTA) and the Wunderman Thompson – Seattle office, Visit Seattle’s message is simple: stay here, spend your time and money here, in the city you know and love.

It’s a simple ask.

I don’t know Seattle as well as my own hometown, New York City, but I can personally relate to the message. Walking around Midtown, Chelsea and Greenwich Village last week, I was constantly looking for the throngs of tourists that normally crowd the city streets, with no sign in sight. It was a strange feeling.

Out of town tourism is down, way down, all across the U.S.. International travelers are staying away for the foreseeable future, and it’s widely believed that tourists from within the U.S. will be returning sooner.

We’re not there yet. Only when Covid-19 is fully in the rear view mirror, will people begin traveling again, and start spending money in the local small businesses that give each great metropolis its flavor, its originality, its character.

Seattle is one of these urban treasures. It’s asking its residents to Do Something. Dine. Shop. Enjoy your hometown.

I can’t wait until we can all do these little things again, without a second thought.

Stay safe, be happy, enjoy your loved ones, and DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!!

“Businesses have had to make heart-wrenching decisions on how to cut costs to stay afloat, and many small businesses may not have the means to market or promote themselves,” said Katherine Kertzman, president and CEO of the Seattle Southside RTA in a statement to Seattle PI.com “This campaign encourages King County residents and visitors to support local businesses and ‘Do Something’ at their own comfort level and pace. We’re very excited about this collaborative campaign, and we are optimistic that locals and visitors alike will come together to support businesses countywide.”

Horizon Media is using a multi-channel approach over the course of three months this Fall. PMD Media has been an integral part of that effort, with its consumer-facing OOH storefront billboards.

Just as important is PMD’s unique relationship to the independent small businesses that make up its 35,000 location OOH network.

Starting in September and running through December 2020, PMD’s WindowPoster Displays are targeting consumers in 10 markets, from the barber shop in Boston to the taco spot in San Francisco. WindowPoster Displays invite new users to scan a code on the spot.

Small Business Direct has also been employed to connect storefront management with PayPal itself, serving as the bridge between the two. PMD Media personnel have been running in-store app demos with management, enabling SMBs to sign up for the touch-free system within minutes. This effectively gives neighborhood businesses a new and faster way to get paid.

PayPal has sweetened the offer with no transaction fees through the end of the year, a welcome incentive for so many mom and pop shops that are struggling through this turbulent economy.

PMD began a 10 market initiative early last month. “Support Small Business” was the message.

Now we’re putting these relationships to work – with a brand new product to simultaneously benefit the small business owners, as well as provide a vital service to the advertiser.

Introducing Small Business Direct.

If you’re an advertiser catering to small business, now is the time to engage, interact and support these vital, community-based businesses. (think Facebook, AMEX, Intuit, Staples, Zoom)

It’s time: Go Beyond the Advertiser-Storefront Relationship.

Email us back anytime to discuss the possibilities.
