Are online pmp training really worth it?

Life is all about learning. As long as you live, you are learning continuously.

A person loves to study. Learning new things, inputting another informative knowledge into their minds then share it with others or apply it in our daily living. Even postgraduates still love to continue studying in the form of institutional learning – going to universities and such. A Project Manger’s reason is to enhance and improve the things they’ve learned – even PMP trainings are quite about skills, application way of learning and very practical.

All of us had been used to go to school ever since when we are still little kids; bringing books and bags then travels to school back and forth. You can meet different kinds of people then choose which of them you want to be with always. Who wouldn’t miss the arguments with our professors, telling them that what we are thinking was right and theirs are wrong? We even have fun playing with sports activities and join very great school activities.

But, as our technology got even more advanced, most students, especially to those who are already graduated with their first courses yet continued pursuing their studies, uses online classes. Their reasons are valid, though. Most of them are already working but they still want to learn more, so they surf in the Internet and look for online classes and after some clicking, done! They’re already in the class.

Let’s take for example, Project Management. It is concerning online and may have contributed greater than any other course, because they are able to study even in the hectic of their schedules. It may sound good, but does this really is greater than normal ways of going to school?

It is quite hard to explain, but, let’s just take a look of some advantages of both parties:

Advantages of Institutional Project Management Classes:
- You will be able to meet different kinds of people which will help you learn to be a very flexible and able to adjust anybody’s personality.
- By handling different personalities, it would not be that hard for you to handle different projects with different problems and environment…
- Project Management is an all about application. If you do attend normal PMP classes, you would be able to practice applying it with Project team members that will give you ideas on how you should handle a project.
Advantages of Online Project Management Classes:
- You would be able to learn many things at the same time.
- You could also learn things out from different countries even though you are not physically there.
- Even in your hectic schedule, you are able to both work and study.
- You will not need to bring lots of heavy books just to learn because lots of online PMP books are always available in the web, such as PMBOKs, PMP study guides, etc.

And lots and lots of advantages are seen out there. So, let’s not talk about disadvantages because I am not referring to which is way of doing classes is better but I just differentiating between online and normal way of taking classes. But I guess that every person has their own way of learning things. PMP is quite a not-so-easy course and it needs a lot of time to even pass the certification. And every person has different status in life, in a professional and non-professional way. Their schedules and availability is different. So, either online project management class or the institutional one, it depends on them; how to manage their time equally will be the basis on their career in the years ahead.

Free PMP Exam Prep Tips and Tricks

Project managers are the ones who make decisions and carry them out. They have the final decision on most points, can spend budget, can change schedules, and can approve or refuse scope. For the pmp test, assume that the project manager is large and in charge! Another attribute of project managers is that they are proactive in their approach to managing tasks and information. They do not wait for changes to occur. Instead, they are actively influencing the factors that contribute to change. Instead of waiting for information to come to them, they are actively communicating and making certain they have accurate and up-to-date information.

Don’t Get Stuck

You should expect to find a few questions on the pmp exam that you do not know how to answer. You will look at it and see the correct answers, making it impossible to pick just 1. Even using every good technique, you will still have to make an educated guess at some questions. Some test takers can get quite upset at this, and it can undermine their confidence.

If a question stumps you, simply mark it for review and move on. Never spend 15 minutes staring at a single question unless you have already answered all the others. One question is only worth one a fraction of a percent on the pmp exam, so if you do not know the answer, do not obsess over it. You may even discover mat a block of questions seem especially difficult to you. This experience can be discouraging and may cause your confidence to waver.

Don’t be alarmed if you happen upon several difficult questions in a row. Keep marking them for review and keep moving, until you come to more familiar ground. You may find that questions later in the test will offer you hints or jog your memory, helping you with those you initially found difficult.

You will have a few minutes at the pmp exam beginning to go through a tutorial. You probably won’t find much value in the actual tutorial; however, you absolutely should take it. After going through it, you will be given a chance to wait before taking the test. Use that time to write down essential formulas and processes on your scratch paper.

Scratch Paper

You will be given five sheets of blank paper when you walk into the pmp exam. You may not carry your own paper into the test. When you sit down to begin the exam, you should write down a few key things.

The PMP Exam Changed on 31-August-2011

The Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential examination has been revised in 2011. This is based on updates to the professional role of a PMP® credential holder recently found by PMI’s Role Delineation Study (RDS).

When:The new examination has been released on 31 August 2011. This means that the new PMP Exam Format is now active, and you need to be aware about it.The PMP exam will still be based on PMBOK Guide Version 4. However, PMI has adviced that about 30% of the PMP Exam questions will get changed to reflect the project manager’s role as defined by the recent Role Delieation Study.Education and experience eligibility requirements for the PMP credential will not change, however.

What has changed in the PMP Exam?Certain areas of the PMP exam will be tested in a different way because an existing domain was seen to be common across all content areas of the exam. Specifically, the Professional and Social Responsibility content area will now be tested in every domain rather than as a separate domain on the exam.This means that questions from the Professional and Social Responsibility area will now be spread out in each knowledge area and process group.

1. Check your PMP Exam Eligibility

Many people have years of experience, but they think they are not eligible for the PMP Exam, because their title/designation is not Project Manager. It is perfectly OK if you are not a Project Manager. Your title could be Project Engineer, Team Lead, Project Lead, PMO, Project Supervisor etc. What you should make sure is that you have experience in planning, executing tasks, monitoring and controlling. 2. Get the Required 35 Hours of Project Management Training

One of the Requirements for the PMP Exam is 35 hours (35 PDU) of formal Project Management Training. Formal training provides you with a holistic view of project management. With a formal training, you can pick up areas where you lack actual experience, and learn the proper project management methodology.

Certifications most likely to land you a new job

Takeaway: PMP and CCNA lead the way for certifications that are in most demand.

Project Management Professional (PMP) is the most frequently desired certification according to the latest Dice report, with nearly 2,200 requests in job postings on any given day, up nine percent year/year.

Following close on the PMP’s heels are CCNA certifications. Job postings for Cisco Certified Network Associates were at 1,200 on any given day, up 21% yr/yr. Entry-level network technicians have found CompTIA’s Network+ certification helpful in job hunting.
Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP) certification is asked for frequently in IT jobs based in Washington, D.C. This is because that certification, along with Security+, is required of contractors by the Department of Defense.
ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) experience and expertise remains a top area. Dice says it is becoming even more vital, with service deliverability being so essential. Those with ITIL credentials can command a six-figure salary.
