UPDATE 2/20: Jasper is doing great and is a wonderful, happy little boy! He's been practicing his grown-up skills like riding in the car (crated), wearing his new collar and learning to walk on a leash. He's already been on a few long (by his standards) walks with his big foster sisters and he has surprisingly good stamina for such a little guy. If we had to describe him with just a few adjectives we would probaby call him "cheerful" and "enthusiastic." He's almost always happy, and when you whistle he comes running into the house so fast his little legs are just flying. Then he'll run down the hall, land on the dog bed, and turn around to look at you with a playful glint in his eye. He is a GREAT little puppy and will make someone a wonderful companion!

Jasper is a male border collie mix puppy about 9 weeks old and as of 2/2/12 he weighs 9 lb. He came into rescue because his owner said he was too exuberant. Any puppy takes dedication, attention and patience, but as puppies go, Jasper is really well behaved.
He loves to play, both with other dogs and people. But if nobody will play with him he's capable of entertaining himself with toys, or he will take a nap. He enjoys a good cuddle either right-side up or on his back lying on your lap, and he will hang out like that with you for quite a while unless something distracts him that he needs to go investigate.

He will cry for a little bit if you lock him away from everyone or if he gets lonely, but he usually doesn’t cry for long and he’s been really good about sleeping through the night at his foster mom’s house. Other than that, he really doesn’t bark much at all.
  
Jasper is quite resilient and not afraid of much, but he’s also not overly bold and careless either. For example, he went for a walk with his foster mom and some horses came up to the fence to investigate, and rather than run towards or away from them or barking like many dogs would, he just stood there quietly with an interested expression on his face and took it all in, then continued on his walk.
  
Like most puppies Jasper is pretty mouthy, and we’re working on getting him to interact more with toys than hands. He’s just starting to learn to play tug with something other than pants legs.
  
Jasper has the cutest little kink at the end of his tail that we think is natural. It gives him a rather distinctive appearance, as does the long white stocking on his left front leg. What sets Jasper apart the most, though, is his loving and well-balanced personality. He’s just a sterling little guy, and will make someone a great companion and friend.

If you are interested in possibly adopting Jasper, in addition to the application on this website you will be asked to complete a more detailed one for the Idaho Domestic Animal Welfare Group. Upon approval, adopters will be asked to sign a contract which will state that Jasper will be neutered at 6 to 8 months of age. Jasper has had his first shots, and his adoption fee is $100.
