This does not affect his movement or his love of chasing the ball in the yard.

Kit is SPDR sponsored and has an adoption donation of $150. This helps offset the costs of medical and veterinary costs for our other dogs in need. SPDR is a 501c3 Washington state non profit.

If you are interested in Kit, please contact foster mom Robin at bcmama@frontier.com. You may submit an application on www.pnwbcrescue.org.
Please remember that a border collie is a commitment for up to 14 years of age. Please read up on the breed and make sure it will fit into your family lifestyle and the needs of the dog. Thank you for thinking rescue when adding to your family

Please meet Joan. She is a female border collie who has been seriously hurt. We are not yet accepting applications for her as she needs to recover, however, we are trying to raise money to pay for her medical bills.

Joan is around 1-year-old. She was spotted running with one of those steel spring traps that damage legs badly. Despite the trap, she could not be caught. Three days later she was seen again. This time she came to the person; he took her immediately to the shelter as she could not use her very seriously wounded leg,

The shelter contacted Rescue. The Seattle Purebred Dog Border Collie Rescue Rep. accepted her as a foster and agreed to do what we could to fix her leg.

Joan has now had that surgery. The tendons were very badly damaged, but the bone is not broken. Only time will tell if her leg can be saved. For right now, it is stitched after being cleaned and is (hopefully) healing. If she cannot put the pad of her foot down, she will need the leg removed.

If you can help in any way with the costs of Joan's surgery, please click on this link http://spdrdogs.org/help/seven_ways.html. On the right hand side is a "donate" button if you wish to use PayPal. You may also mail a check directly to SPDR:

Flash is fast, athletic, ball driven and is the perfect size and age - 11 months and 40 pounds. He's small and compact, and will be classified in the 20 inch jump class. This is another Nana, who, at age 10 is still so intense and active that she qualifies faster than three year olds.

He thinks every toy and ball is his - can't figure out how to handle both a tennis-sized ball and small soccer ball and frisbee, all at the same time, but he gives it a go. He is a very quick learner and quickly grasped that a sit (and control of enthusiasm) was necessary before a ball would be thrown.

Flash probably left his litter early and is now learning how to interact properly with other dogs. He is good with people, but, like the large majority of Border Collies, should not be expected to be paraded down Main Street, meeting all encountered folks. He doesn't need the stress. For obvious reasons, a home with small children is not in the cards.

Quick, smart, good in the house and a crate, did I mention fast? He even settles nicely beside you when the situation warrants.

Flash is neutered and up-to-date on his shots.

Last Update: Thu, 09 Feb 2012 08:56:44 -0800
DogId: MINDY (WA#3697)
Gender: F
Age: 2 yr - 5 yrs
Location: Ravensgate Border Collie Rescue - Camano Is., WA
Rescue: Ravensgate
Special Needs: none

MINDY is a beautiful girl, probably Border Collie / LGD (Marrema or Great Pry.) She is about 6 years old. She weighs about 55 pounds. She has a fairly light build (compared to a LGD) sort of like a slightly heavier setter.

She is very calm and friendly, slightly aloof with strangers but not once she gets to know you. She is fairly independent about exploring in the manner of a LGD, and will sound an alert if she hears something "out of the ordinary".

She is very sweet and likes affection, but not fussy or needy. She loves to run (lope) around, but is not super speedy or intense at all.

She doesn't seem to give a hoot about cats, and ignores mine.

Mindy greets new dogs a bit bruskly, but quickly starts wagging her tail in a playful way.

She rides nicely in the car, is reported to be housetrained, and does not jump up on people.

So far she seems very LGD in personality, but with a playful Border Collie side.

Mindy's adoption donation is $210.00 Besides being neutered, updated on vaccines, and microchipped - it also includes a 42 page adoption packet with tons of information, martingale collar, leash, and a copy of Dr. Patricia McConnell's newest book "Love Has No Age Limit" which has very good information that will help make any adoption a success.

This incredibly sweet boy started out his life in a puppy mill, so he's very shy at first meet ... but as soon as he warms up to you, he's an absolute love! Oz is a miniature australian shepherd. He's overweight, so a home that will take him for walks or hikes would be ideal. He hasn't had much leash training, but he would love to learn. He's got a great temperament & tries very hard to please his person. --- We'd like to see Ozzie go to a home with a fenced yard for his safety. He gets along great with other dogs. We're unsure of his cat status, as we have no kitties to test him with. He's approximately 5 years-old, neutered & up-to-date on shots (including rabies) . Adoption fee of $150. --- For more info on Ozzie or if you have any questions, please email us ... or if you'd like to fill out our online application, please see the link on our shelter page. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WA431.html

She doesn't always know how to relate to other dogs and interpret their body language, probably due to a lack of experience. When she first came here, she was recuperating from surgery - after that process, you could tell that she hadn't done a lot of running and moving - her coordination has improved as her muscles have strengthened. She probably isn't a good agility prospect, but would be a great companion dog.

Now for her story - when she was about 1.5 years old, she swallowed a rock that became lodged down below and required surgery to remove it. Then recently, a week before Christmas, she apparently found a bone and swallowed it. This time the family wasn't in a situation to cover the surgery expense and she was surrendered to rescue. (As you can tell, she's quite inquisitive.)

Since the operation she has recovered nicely. She shows excellent manners with people.

She really does love to play with other dogs, but they can misinterpret her body language and make her uncomfortable. We have a 15 pound ball-of-fire here and he and Blu have some rollicking sessions that are great for her confidence and development.

Blu would do best in a situation where folks are around much of the time, where she can be nearby or in her crate, which she enjoys. She
has an excellent recall. She is house-trained and good on a leash.

Blu is SPDR affiliated with an adoption donation of $150. For more information on her, please fill out the online adoption application
and contact Bob: harleybob@att.net or call him at 253-229-2623.

Paige is a mix of Border Collie and ?? In behavior and temperament she is much more like an Aussie or cattle dog in that she is confident and forward and can be hard-headed. She is NOT aggressive but she does have a big bark and sometimes rushes towards new people or dogs in what can be an intimidating manner to the uninitiated (i.e., she’s rude). She also postures and pushes when meeting new dogs and is not very good at reading dog body language. Again, I think a lot of this behavior will temper with time and the proper management but in the wrong hands she will continue this naughtiness. We've been in public many, many times and her behavior is very manageable but she will need an experienced and dog savvy owner who will continue to help her remember her manners. She's pretty bomb proof in that not much upsets her. She can go anywhere and is unphased by crowds, noise, odd surfaces and other new experiences. With other dogs she plays rough and would be better in an only dog home or with a male. A big plus is she LOVES cats and would be a good cat companion. She's also fabulous with my sheep who will stick their head through the fence for a good face cleaning from her.

All this being said, she is a charming, snuggly, sweet thing that worms her way into your heart. She is NOT obsessive and has no toy drive to speak of, but she does have snack drive and she is a quick and willing student who enjoys our training sessions. She is also healthy, happy and athletic and could probably be a great riding/biking/hiking companion for the right person.

To summarize:

What she IS:

Sweet and cuddly with people
Great with cats
Good with livestock
Good with poultry
Good in the house
Good in the car
Athletic
Curious
Silly
Potty trained
Crate trained
VERY smart

What she ISN’T:

Subtle
Hyper-sensitive
Obsessive
Good at initial meet and greets with other dogs
Soft
Lazy

Paige is a stray pick up who was not reclaimed from the shelter. She has been with me in foster care since September 2011 where she has lived in a multi-dog, multi-cat, multi-livestock environment and has been spayed and had her rear dew claws removed. She acted very much like a 9-10 month old when she came into foster care and I would guesstimate her at between one and two years of age now. She has some basic training and a very good recall.

While she is a wonderful, potty trained, non-destructive house companion she is also young and will need the appropriate mental and physical stimulation. A bored child is a naughty child and it is up to us to set these pups up for success by making sure all their needs are met.

Paige weighs aprox. 40# and is currently being fed Orijen Adult formula. Her adoption fee is $200.

If you think you are a suitable candidate as a Paige companion please fill out an online application and then EMAIL ME at stockdogs@comcast.net.

>

Update:

Micah, like Bear would be an excellent companion dog for a solitary person. He isn't the kind of dog that is comfortable meeting strangers. It can be stressful for him and for the handler, so why do it? Someone who is around home most of the time and who actively worked with him would find him to be a great pal.

As indicated earlier, he is not good around youth, due to his being teased by a bunch of them in his original circumstances.

He loves to lay on the front porch, or under a tree when the weather is good, watching for any trespassing squirrel or other interloper. He'll come like a streak when it's time for the daily routines.
When he gets to know a person, he's playful, loyal and quite funny.
You may not be that solitary person mentioned above, but perhaps you know one that might be a good fit for Micah.

******************

Micah's Resume:

Age: 6 years
Weight: 45 pounds
Coat: Glossy, rough(longer), mostly black, brown around ears, white chest and toe-tips, wonderful tail feathers. A striking dog.
Shots: Up-to-date, neutered as well.
Looks: Deceiving, on first glance. Piercing eyes hide a reasonable and neutral dog.
Good with cats: Lived with one
Good with kids and youth: No, he was teased by kids who threw things at him when passing by his yard and he is not comfortable with them. Having said that, he lived with a 16 month old toddler and was very respectful.

Good with adults: Prefers to keep to his small circle and has no wish to meet and greet the rest of the world.

Good with other dogs: Pretty much keeps to himself, doesn't go out of his way to engage (which is good!)
Good with balls: Yes. Also loves tug-of-war, see below.
Good as a rodent hunter: Outstanding.
Good in the house: Yes, excellent.
Good in his crate: Yes

Thing to do: Develop a proper cooperative relationship with Micah, allowing him to trust the handler in all situations.

Fun things to do: He loves to play ball and tug-of-war. Watch him get funny - enjoy his antics. Go hiking together in the boonies. Put him on rodent patrol.

Micah has a we/they view of the world and will flourish in a situation where this is understood by his adopter. The Packworks (www.packworks.org) folks in Arlington Washington will be part of your introduction (and will elaborate on we/they as being a breed characteristic rather than an anomaly) and handling training.

Micah is SPDR affiliated with an adoption donation of $150. If his resume is of interest to you, please fill out the online adoption application
and contact Bob: harleybob@att.net

Bear is not a border collie but might be border collie and retriever mix. He has golden red highlights to his fur -- all natural. He has black spots on his tongue which is common these days in some lines of golden retrievers. He has lovely brown eyes that melt a human with one glance.

Trinity is highly trained in the classic competition Frisbee moves such as a back vault, leg weaves, flips, spins, etc., and you can see a video of her in competition here: http://www.youtube.com/cassiemily
Please note that physical moves like those shown in the video require the same conditioning that human athletes require, including warm-ups, cool-downs, core strength training, etc. – it’s not a party trick to pull out for the relatives twice a year.

She also knows target, high five, roll over, heel, sit, stay, down, and how to walk on her hind legs.

She has qualified for the National Disc Championships for 4 years in a row. She is used to performing in crowds and noise and is super focused on her person.

That’s her “business” profile, now let me tell you about her personal life. Trin is very sweet and super responsive to her person. She has had more training in her 6 years than most people give to one dog or even three dogs in their entire lifetime. She is VERY connected to her person and seems to understand everything you say or direct her to do, not just her established “tricks”. She is happy, personable and rock solid in any situation. Needless to say, she is SUPER smart and simply put, a “to-die-for” dog if you can handle her one/two issue (see later paragraph).

She is also certified through Therapy Dogs International and can do Therapy visits or Reading With Rover. Whether she should continue in Disc competition is debatable (at 6 yrs. old, it might be a good idea to ease off to prevent joint issues, etc.), but it would be quite cool to be able to give Frisbee “demos” for hospitalized kids or adults if they could all come out to a lawn or viewing area.

Trin is very affectionate, very friendly with people, a quick and eager learner, and a joy to live with.

BUT - Trinity has one/two major issue (yeah, there’s always a “but”). She has had a long term antagonistic attitude towards one female dog in her former household and other female dogs in general. And although I have not duplicated that (to be honest I take the “prevent and avoid” technique, as I do NOT want one of my dogs in a fight, or to teach them that dogs attack them, so I have not really tested this behavior out. Trinity has met all my female dogs through a fence.), it would be remiss of me to not stress this behavioral issue. I have done lots of dog/dog socializing with her and she has been great with all my male dogs, but so far has only been loose with one of my girls and that was outside in a very large open yard. She will be ok living as the only dog, or with the right male dog. She has not interacted with any of the other dogs in a playful manner when out in the yard with them, just kind of ignores them. I will stress that with the other female in her former home, this was minor scuffles leading up to a major one and it was serious, so if you aren’t absolutely sure you can handle this, please don’t apply to adopt her.

The other half of the issue is that she is also too focused on cats. She has not hurt a cat that I know of, but this is a hard behavior to manage and can too easily lead to a really bad end for the cat, so I am saying NO CATS.

In competition and training, Trinity is totally focused on her person, so the dog issue has not been a problem, but remember, her former person is an experienced handler, and Frisbee is a fast-paced sport which like sheepherding, takes the dogs entire attention. This would not be the case, for example, on an off leash hike.

Trinity is not a good choice for a home with small children. She is used to being super-engaged with her person, so as the Frisbee activities diminish, other activities must be substituted. As I said, hiking might be “out” as the chance of running into another female dog is high. But agility, continued trick training, tracking, and many other activities are all great. I don’t mean that she has to be kept manically busy (over stimulated), but that she still needs a full, varied and interesting life.

6 years is pretty much prime of life age for a Border Collie. Trinity is not a “retired” dog, she just has a 6 year resume, and an impressive one at that!

Trinity is spayed, current on vaccines, house trained, crate trained, and microchipped.

Trinity's adoption donation is $210.00 Besides being neutered, updated on vaccines, and microchipped - it also includes martingale collar, leash, and a copy of Dr. Patricia McConnell's newest book "Love Has No Age Limit" which has very good information that will help make any adoption a success.

Please note: I work to find each dog the home that meets their individual needs. They (the dogs) are my clients, and my “customers”, not people. My process is not “first come, first served”. I am not trying to place each dog as-fast-as-possible, but rather doing my best to ensure that when I choose a home for one of my beloved fosterdogs, that it is one that will deserve and earn the privilege of having that dog as a family member, and will prioritize their needs with the same dedication that is afforded to all family members.

>

GAVIN is a male short coated Border Collie. He is 1 ½ years old.

He is a very “herdy” kind of Border Collie. He has a hard time ignoring any stock that he can see. Most of my foster dogs ignore my horses even though their play yard borders the pasture with about 50’ of fence line. Gavin watches them all the time and gets very excited and serious if they come up to the fence. If it was a 4’ stock fence, he would probably jump over, but it’s a 5’ dog fence. I took him out to see how he did on sheep and he got good grades. He has a sense of balance and is very keen. Once he settled in he was very good about keeping out at a balance point and keeping the group together.

This keenness is very good on stock, but will cause problems if his home is not properly fenced and he can get to a neighbor’s livestock.

He LOVES his toys and could be trained to be a detection dog. He’s not a casual pet, he needs some kind of a job. He has exceptional hearing or perhaps smell, because in his previous home he found a water leak dripping inside of a wall. He repeatedly continued to lay in front of the wall and stare at it until they got so curious that they opened up the wall to see what was there and found the small leak. After they fixed it, he never stared at the wall again.

Gavin loves to play with other dogs once he gets to know them, but he is not good at meeting other dogs if they come right up in his face. He also needs some confidence building being out and about and meeting new people in the right way. He doesn’t do well with direct eye contact and people who need to get too close too fast.

For the above reasons, he will need to be in a home with an experienced person (not just someone who has had dogs before, but someone who understands and has corrected behavior issues).

Gavin LOVES his person and is sweet and cuddly and a totally awesome dog when in his comfort zone. He just needs a bit of help to expand that zone. He is wonderfully athletic and agility would be a great way to help him gain confidence. He has been good with my cats but is too easily over-focused on the chickens. I would not trust him loose with chickens.

A herding home would be wonderful for him, but only with someone who has the ability to start a dog from scratch, or knows someone who can. He could also be a great goose control dog, or detection dog.

He is the kind of dog that bonds very tightly with his person and can have that kind of person/dog relationship that changes people’s minds about whether or not dogs have souls.

Gavin is neutered, current on shots, crate trained, and microchipped.

Gavin's adoption donation is $210.00 Besides being neutered, updated on vaccines, and microchipped - it also includes a 42 page adoption packet with tons of information, martingale collar, leash, and a copy of Dr. Patricia McConnell's newest book "Love Has No Age Limit" which has very good information that will help make any adoption a success.

LAIRD is a beautiful 11 month old male Border Collie. I am constantly amazed by the quality of dogs in rescue and the fact that someone would give this dog up absolutely stuns me! But – too bad for them, and good for Laird, ‘cause now he can have the perfect home with someone who deserves this exceptional dog.

He has not had much training, but boy does this guy catch on quick! He is going to be someone’s dog-of-a-lifetime. A real go-everywhere, do-everything kind of dog. He is NOT for someone who just wants to go for on-leash walks and play in the backyard. He deserves much more than that – he deserves a “big life”.

Laird has apparently killed some chickens, but honestly, I don’t hold him accountable for that. Loose chickens make a pretty fun dog toy, especially for a young dog. I keep my chickens in a very large pen, taking away the temptation to chase them and Laird has not shown much interest in them. Where I live, loose chickens are not really appropriate anyway, as I like them too much to simply feed them to the coyotes. So to me, the chicken “incident” is a non issue.

This smart boy has already learned to ride on the back of an ATV. He has been around horses on a trail ride, but will “herd” them through the fence if given an opportunity (note: this is NOT appropriate exercise for a dog). He might have actual herding talent, but I have not had a chance to test him on stock.

He will for sure be a great hiking buddy, and I bet he will be a dream Agility dog. He is great with all the dogs here and ignores my cats. He is very friendly to all people and likes affection. He wants a person who likes to snuggle a bit for TV/movie time. He is good about being brushed and having his nails trimmed.

He is good off leash on my property, and sticks fairly close to me but his recall is not specific and perfect yet.

Laird is crate trained, neutered, current on vaccines and micro chipped.

Eli was tested on sheep and has excellent instincts. He is now in Sheepdog School and will be of interest to herding folks.

**********************************

Looking for a dog that just oozes typical Border Collie, with great potential when properly handled? Then it would be worth your time to
investigate Eli.

Eli is a very engaging dog that loves to respond to his human. When he first came here, he was unsure of what was required and as a consequence he would lie on his back and look at me, beseeching a response. In a short time he learned that he could act on his
instincts and display and develop his self-confidence. (The same cycle was observed in a temporary foster home.) So, once he settles in to a permanent home, without a harsh command atmosphere, he'll blossom into a reliable Best Dog in the World.

He's around a year and a half old, weighs in at 40 pounds. He doesn't chew, is crate-trained (loves his crate), seems to be house-trained.
After he was here a chort time, he began to honor me by putting his front paws on my chest - this is something that I appreciate and do
not try to discourage.

Eli is neutered and up-to-date on his shots. He gets along well with the other dogs, behavior with cats is unknown. He loves to play with Queen, another foster dog here. If you have a dog looking for a partner to run off energy with, Eli would be a good choice. As with many Border Collies, a dog park is not the best venue for hium, since he would try to chase and herd other dogs and probably get in trouble. He will chase stock and has no recall in that situation.

Eli would be a good fit for someone looking for an athletic dog that wants a running, hiking or agility companion. He is extremely fast and very fit.

Eli is SPDR affiliated with an adoption donation of $150. For more information on him, please fill out the online adoption application and contact Bob: harleybob@att.net or call him at: 253-229-2623.

Missy had a tough time in life before coming into the foster program. We are so pleased that Missy is now ready to find her perfect home. Missy is truly a very sweet, female, Red Tri color Border Collie about 3 years old, spayed and current on standard vaccinations. Missy is about 30+ pounds and has very small frame. She is very petite.

Missy loves people and can even be a little bit of a Velcro buddy. If she could crawl right up on your lap & stay there, she’d be in heaven. She wants to be right by your side all the time. Missy’s house trained and also crate trained. She willingly goes in and out of her crate, in fact, she loves her crate and will sometimes go in just to relax. Missy knows basic obedience and has good recall, but it would really benefit her to attend a class with her new person(s). We don’t know how Missy is with children or cats as we don’t have any.

Missy came to us from the Tri-Cities area by way of her guardian angel Robin Bridges, of Wind River Rescue. Missy had been attacked by a dog in a neighborhood and a good samaritan took her in to the local shelter. No owner ever came for Missy and the shelter could not provide the medical attention she needed. Robin had her vet checked and it was determined that Missy had been badly bitten in the face and at least one front tooth was broken off at her gum line. Robin drove Missy to be fostered with us here in Selah. Our veterinarian removed the broken tooth and treated Missy’s wounds. We discovered that Missy was afraid of new dogs. As a puppy, she may have never been socialized with other dogs. Through a few short months of rehabilitation in our home, we’re pleased to report that Missy now lives very happily and comfortably with 8 other dogs. Missy has chosen one of our dogs as a special buddy and playmate that she loves to romp around with. She will even “play bow” to invite other dogs to play. If Missy feels too much pressure, she will quietly retire to her crate for a little peace and quiet. She’s learned to peacefully establish her own space and has come a long way since she first arrived. Missy probably isn’t quite ready for dog park play dates, but she will get there in time.

Ideally, Missy is looking for a quiet home where she can be doted on and can go everywhere with her person. She will stick to you like glue. We think Missy would make a good hiking, jogging partner as long as she feels her person near enough for support. It’s very possible Missy will soon become a happy, reliable off leash dog partner. Missy has a ways to go in her rehabilitation, but encouragement from the right person, Missy is going to blossom immensely. She is an extremely loving dog and she’s only looking for that in return from her person.

If you’d like to meet Missy, please fill out an online adoption application then contact her foster dad Mike at thatlldo@elltel.net. Missy’s adoption donation is $150.00. This is used for medical expenses and the special needs of our foster dogs. Missy is being fostered in Selah WA, which is about the middle of the state. Thank You for thinking of a rescue dog!

I’d love to cuddle up and appreciate you.”

Skylar’s owner was a college student who was unable to keep him upon graduating. Skylar was rarely alone at the quad and would prefer a companion who wants to hang out or travel with him. He would be in heaven if he could be with you all day long. At six years of age, he’s game for whatever you’re up to, preferring a variety of nature shows, walks, chew toys, a little fetch and then supervising meal preparation with a car ride thrown in to complete his day. He’s fine with other dogs but gets tired of dealing with them if they hang around too long.

Almost forgot, he loves water. Puddles, stock tanks, ponds, baths (which is good since those puddles are muddy).

>

Mo is approximately 35 lb and between 1 and 2 years old. He is a petite, eye catching rough coated red-head. Mo is an intense, real deal Border Collie that is going to need more than a couple of 20 minute walks each day.

Mo was turned into the shelter because of his being too "herdy" with children. Based on what little information I have gotten on him and from what I seen in his reactions, Mo came from working lines, bought as a pup from a ranch, then tossed in the back yard where he received no socialization or training. His "training" likely amounted to the children in the family yelling orders at him. Thus, Mo, being a very sensitive dog with an intense desire to please, is also now very timid. Sometimes Mo just gets so concerned that he might be doing the wrong thing that he cowers and submissive pees. He has shown noticeable improvement over the past two weeks, but will need a kind and consistent leader in his forever home.

Mo gets along with other dogs. However, he can irritate fetching dogs by his constant herding of them. He is said to be okay with cats.

As he apparently comes from working lines and shows an intense desire to herd other dogs and children, he may do very well at working sheep. If there is a potential adopter who has an interest in this, I will be happy to have him evaluated on sheep. While he tends to herd dogs and young children, he isn't all that intense on horses or cars. Agility could be a real boost to his self esteem.

Mo is a lover and quite a snuggler. The couch is his safe haven, better yet when there is someone to snuggle next to. At the vets the other day he jumped in everyone's lap for attention. However, because he is so submissive, he should not be expected to be a social butterfly and should be properly introduced to all new people that come into his life.

Mo is very good being crated and sleeps the entire night in his crate without a peep. Mo is catching onto house training, but is not yet trustworthy. Obviously, he will need some obedience training, but he is showing marked improvement walking on the leash and has a decent recall (if he isn't focused on herding the dog or dropping to the ground thinking he did something wrong). He will also need work in other areas, such as baths, which he finds quite scarey.

Mo is up to date on his shots, including rabies, and is neutered. Mo is SPDR affiliated and his adoption donation $150. Mo will not be adopted into a family with children or where children frequently visit. If you can give Mo a loving, structured, and active home, please send in an application for him, then contact his foster mom Pam at BCandGG@gmail.com

She was taken in by a noted rescuer that works extensively with defense breeds and dogs that no one else would touch. In Queen's case, she was found and taken in. She was a stray, absolutely starving, emaciated and near death. Within a short time, she was nursed back to health, worked with by the rescuer, and found to have great potential. Other exigencies dictated that she come here for foster care and the training foundation that was laid in her initial stay is excellent.

A large number of pictures are available at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/packworks-schumizoo/6258719302/in/set-72157627800994545/

Queen has some of the mannerisms of a proper German Shepherd, and would be an excellent companion dog for someone that wanted a loyal, protective friend. For example, a runner who wanted to feel comfortable in whatever isolated area or situation would be well pleased to have Queen at her side.

Queen very quickly warms up to women and is more restrained with men. She will accept a man, but it takes patience and time. She does not tolerate small dogs at all, and some that would be approaching medium size are a concern. These facts must be taken into account in her handling - she would never be taken to a dog park, for example. Cats would probably be an issue.

SHe likes to play ball, rides nicely in the car and is quiet and comfortable in a crate. Someone worked with her before she became a stray - she knows a number of commands and responses.

She is spayed and her shots aret up to date. Oh, by the way , she has a blue eye and a brown eye, so that you can choose your favorite color.

Lucy is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and will be micro chipped soon. Her weight is around 28#. She has soft silky longer fur which she loves to have brushed. Being with her person is her greatest joy. She will cuddle with you and when it is time to play she runs around the yard.
Jack is shy at meeting new people, but warms up quickly. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t just give his heart to every old stranger, but rather he is waiting for his forever person to really love, and that person will be very lucky.

He has lived on a farm his whole life and does not have much experience in “out and about”, but has good confidence on a leash when I’ve had him come with me into town. But at heart, he’s a country boy and would prefer a quiet place to live. He will not be placed in a city home.

Jack does not want to do the “wrong” thing, so he holds back if he’s not sure of the situation. He REALLY wants to be liked and will ever-so-gently sidle up to your side and ask politely for affection. He needs a little help awakening his “inner pirate” and gaining confidence so he’s looking for a person who can do that.

He is good around livestock and has not been interested in my old horse or the chickens. He is great at ignoring the cats as well.

He gets along great with all the dogs but will “herd” them, which can be problematic. He would do best with a calmer sort of dog buddy, rather than a tweaky Border Collie type.

Jack is a wonderful, easy going dog who wants a fairly simple life. He loves to run and is very fast. His recall is not perfect yet but we have made good progress. Once his recall is perfected, he will be a great hiking buddy. He’s a dog who has had very little direction with regards to human interaction, and he would benefit from learning specific things, like tricks and behaviors, instead of being left on his own all the time.

He is crate trained and rides well in the car.

Captain Jack's adoption donation is $210.00 Besides being neutered, updated on vaccines, and microchipped - it also includes a 42 page adoption packet with tons of information, martingale collar, leash, and a copy of Dr. Patricia McConnell's newest book "Love Has No Age Limit" which has very good information that will help make any adoption a success.
