In terms of gaming-oriented features, the current information suggests that the 12 Pro utilizes the first mass-produced dual-loop cooling system, which should keep the phone from getting too toasty during even the most demanding play sessions. If this model is anything like its Chinese counterpart, we'd also expect it to come with the classic REDMAGIC shoulder buttons, which are particularly useful for fans of racing and FPS games.

While I like a JRPG from time to time, turn-based combat isn't my favorite thing ever. I'd prefer to be fully involved, brain whirring and button-mashing skills combined. When I saw how the recently announced game Eternal Anima shakes up the format a little bit, I was pretty excited, and that excitement feels justified after my recent experience trying out an hour of gameplay. I was left feeling satisfied that the game would do well with both JRPG fans and more casual players like me. As seen in the trailer, which the devs unveiled at September 2026's Nintendo Direct, Eternal Anima is a top-down, turn-based RPG that utilizes both the fantastical parts of magic and the time travel elements of sci-fi. In the preview material for the upcoming Switch 2 game, which was about three hours into the game, the theme leaned more heavily towards the fantasy side of things, with the exploration in an area called La Boset focusing on a forest with rivers.

Nintendo announced an expansion pass, and the first part is available right now. That's right, fellow weavers of fortune, there's now a three-part expansion pass for the game. The first wave is out now, October 15, and in it, you can get shiny new weapons for the four heroes - Cai, Dietrich, Leda, and Theodora. If you've played Three Houses, you'll recognize the design, as they're inspired by Heroes Relics from the previous Fire Emblem game. We don't have exact dates for when parts two and three release, but we know what's in them. Part two, due to release in the winter, will allow you to recruit Aurora, Jurah, and Smyrnos in the last act of the game, and bring in some alternative outfits for characters on your team.

I grew up alongside Link and Zelda on the Nintendo 64, spending some of my best weekends riding through Hyrule Fields on Epona's back and dealing with a sore thumb from the janky N64 joystick. I then felt those same warm feelings playing Ocarina of Time on the 3DS as a teenager, laughing at the absurdity of the 3D before never using it again. Now, I'm brushing up against my mid-30s, and Ocarina of Time is back in my life, this time with a gorgeous remake on the Nintendo Switch 2. I was lucky enough to receive an invite from Nintendo of Europe to preview this upcoming Switch game in Frankfurt, and my inner child jumped for joy. Walking into the preview room was a sight to behold; the area was almost pitch black, with nothing but twinkly fairy lights and TV screens glowing alongside some big leafy green trees. The mood was very well set, to say the least. Sitting down, I loaded up a save from the start of the game and made my way around Kokiri Village to find a sword and shield.

Despite the rising prices of components and tricky market conditions, 2026 has been a surprisingly stellar year for Android handhelds, with new devices from Retroid, Ayaneo, and others. However, we've not had anything fresh from Ayn so far. That's about to change, though, with the introduction of the Ayn Odin 3 Portal. For those who don't know, Ayn is behind some of the best retro handhelds in recent years, including the massively popular Nintendo DS-style Thor. Ayn shared the Odin 3 Portal teaser on Discord, and while we don't have any spec details yet, the tagline alludes to "flagship power," so we'd expect it to be pretty competitive in gaming performance. As for the design, the Odin 3 Portal looks pretty similar to the Odin 2 Portal, with a flat glass display, an analog stick on either side of the screen, and a curved body. In fact, it looks a lot like the Steam Deck, and given how expensive Valve's handheld currently is, plus the recent breakthroughs bringing SteamOS to some Android devices, it could be a future pick for our list of the best Steam Deck alternatives.

While visiting Tencent's headquarters in Shenzhen, China, I got to sit down with the Art Director for Delta Force and discuss the process behind making this unique extraction shooter. Thanks to my visit to Tencent's 3D scanning and mocap studio, as well as a Delta Force eSports match in Chongqing, I truly got a feel for the passionate team and community behind this young mobile shooter. In case you're unfamiliar, Delta Force is a cross-platform FPS game for mobile, PC, and consoles that started as an extraction shooter, but has since added other game modes. Whether you want some Battlefield-style tugs of war to fight for territory or PvPvE tension akin to Arc Raiders, Delta Force is unabashedly throwing everything at the wall. The team recently celebrated the game's 2nd birthday with Anniversary: Season Reorientation, and announced a bunch of upcoming content for its third year, including Detonation, a bomb diffusal mode, the Siege: Valkyrie Operations map, and the addition of tons of Unreal Engine 5 features. During this very exciting time for the game, I got to sit down with William, Delta Force's Art Director, and pick his brain about the more creative and aesthetically-driven elements. One of my favorite videogame franchises of all time is Resident Evil - one of my earliest memories is watching my mum play the first game when I was three years old. No, she didn't know I was there; it was way past my bedtime, and I snuck behind the couch as she and Jill tried to handle that infamous room full of bees. Was I terrified? Yes. Did it give me nightmares? Also yes. Is this where my deep love for Capcom's iconic horror series began? You know it is. As a longtime fan, I've loved the strong slew of RE games over the past few years, including three remakes. At launch, I had serious questions about why we didn't get a Resident Evil 4 Remake Switch port, or 2 and 3, for that matter. No, the cloud versions don't count. Luckily for me, Capcom saw fit to bring all three remakes to the Nintendo Switch 2 natively, and I've played all three. Being extremely familiar with these Resident Evil games, I knew exactly what to expect from the story and gameplay. What I didn't know, however, was how well they'd perform, though I had a pretty good inkling after my Resident Evil Requiem review earlier this year. Since the RE 2, 3, and 4 remakes are already seven, six, and three years old (not to mention how old the originals are), I'm going to focus more on how they perform rather than how good they are as games overall. Still, I'll take a minute to gush over them. Without question, while 2 and 3 are excellent, Resident Evil 4 is one of the most influential horror games of all time, and the remake lets newcomers experience its greatness. However, it falls short of 2 and 3 in one area: Ashley. Granted, the President's daughter stops calling Leon a perv every five seconds in the remake, but she's still unbelievably annoying. I'll take Ada, Sherri, and Carlos over her any day.

The announcement trailer on YouTube gives us a good look at what we can expect from the fantasy game, and it's safe to say that fans are in for a treat, particularly if you're a fan of Azur Lane. The Azur Promilia website also offers some extra details, giving us a look at the world through journals that provide vital little details and anecdotes. Naturally, the site also gives us a look at some of the characters you're to meet on your journey, including Nono, Terara, Han Youyou, Shalle, and Pepei. Each character has a mini bio, offering insight into who they are, what they do, and what you can expect from their personalities. We certainly think there's a nice variety here. We can even discover some Kibo, who appear to be lovable creatures; one even reminds us of our very own Xiao.

Handheld gaming giant Anbernic could be in hot water with the US government

Sometimes a new story can come along and completely shock you; other times, it makes complete sense. The development that the Entertainment Software Association has posited that Anbernic is a 'superfake' company falls into the latter. For years, the handheld gaming brand has been packaging its devices with pre-loaded memory cards packed with games the ESA believes are pirated, and now, it could be facing the consequences in the US. This update, via Retrohandhelds, details that the ESA is suggesting that the United States Trade Representative, a federal agency, classify Anbernic as a brand responsible for bundling and selling 'superfake' products and that it should occupy a spot in the USTR's 'Notorious Markets' list. In simple terms, a 'superfake' is a high-quality counterfeit product. This suggestion is less about the hardware, though, and more about the games that come pre-installed on a lot of Anbernic devices. At the time of writing, this is just a recommendation from the ESA, and the USTR doesn't necessarily have to take any action. If the USTR does acknowledge the ESA's request, the worst-case scenario could see pressure on US retailers to not sell Anbernic products, at least, until it stops packing devices with microSD cards jam-packed with games.

Evercade Nexus review - my new favorite retro-style handheld

As Pocket Tactics' hardware editor, there's nothing I love more than getting to grips with a new handheld. That's why I was so delighted when, courtesy of Blaze Entertainment, I received the new Evercade Nexus to try out ahead of its launch date later this month. Well, it arrived about a week ago, and I've barely loosened my grip on it since. If that isn't an indicator of which way this review is going to go, I don't know what is. First, though, some context. The Evercade brand has been around since 2020, with Blaze Entertainment releasing a few handheld retro-style devices and plenty of compatible cartridges, including four NEOGEO Arcade collections, two Tomb Raider compendiums, and plenty more. The Nexus marks the next step in Evercade's evolution, and it certainly looks the part. The key difference between the Evercade Nexus and the brand's previous handhelds is the addition of two analog sticks, one on either side of the screen, which immediately makes the device feel more modern than either the EXP-R or the HyperMegaTech Super Pocket. It also opens the door to a lot more games, particularly from the PlayStation One era, if Blaze Entertainment can acquire some more licensing rights.

Ratatan Switch 2 review - full of color but lacking polish

When Ratatan showed up in March's Nintendo Direct as an upcoming Switch 2 title, I was excited. I'd heard a lot about this new venture from some of the Patapon devs, and I'm always looking to get my hands on a new rhythm game, even if it's only rhythm-adjacent. Plus, I had a great time with Patapon's recent remaster, so picking up this review was a no-brainer for me. Ratatan is a rhythm action roguelike game from Ratata Arts and TVT Co., spearheaded by former devs from the Patapon team. As a huge fan of the genre, I'd say that Ratatan is less a pure rhythm game and more a game that uses rhythm as part of its combat, but staying on beat is still core to the entire experience. You play as a selection of Ratatans - tiny, doll-like creatures in bright colors - as they lead their armies of Cobuns through various levels to reach The Everafter and meet The Goddess. Gameplay during each of the levels is very similar to the original Patapon games, but I honestly think that taking the formula and turning it into a roguelike has worked wonders. Between each battle, you get to choose Ratakaruta, which are cards that affect your normal attack, Hustle Ability, and other parts of your combat. Different elements offer different buffs, and if you can stack several of the same kind, you'll gain extra abilities, like lightning strikes or poison spheres. This setup makes for a much more enjoyable expedition experience, letting you get stronger as you progress. Plus, your Cobun soldiers auto-revive after a certain amount of time (unlike in Patapon), so you're much less likely to fail super fast.

No Man's Sky mobile is coming, but not everyone can explore new planets on their phone

No Man's Sky has picked its next planet to land on, and it's your iPhone. To be honest, after its Switch 2 release, I never really expected the game to come out on mobile, given its complicated procedurally generated worlds and dense menus. Nonetheless, a mobile port is coming to your nearest Apple device on October 28, 2026, with pre-orders available now. The No Man's Sky dev team may have done the impossible by making the iPhone the game's next intergalactic base. After all, the procedurally generated game is 30.2GB on Nintendo Switch 2, demanding both significant storage capacity and the power to create the world you're standing in, let alone render it. However, it seems like the team has been hard at work optimizing the game for both iPad and iPhone, as the file size will be less than 5GB, and you won't even need one of the latest devices to use it - No Man's Sky will run on iPhones as early as the iPhone 11, and on iPads as old as the iPad Air 3rd gen. The dev team also says they've been working on battery efficiency and preventing overheating, which is welcome news. I'm scorned after some of my other experiences with otherwise great mobile games.

It's lights out for another mobile game, and this time, Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting its doors. After its global launch in February 2026, the small-screen iteration of Rainbow Six saw ten million Google Play downloads, a collaboration with PAYDAY, and pretty glowing reviews all around. Yet, all of that wasn't enough to keep the dream alive, as the developers posted a heartbreaking announcement that the servers will shut down on January 15, 2027. The clock is ticking. The statement, posted to R6 Mobile's official social media channels, was written by the development team and feels bittersweet. It says, "One of the greatest parts of this adventure has been getting to experience it alongside you. We've loved seeing the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, impossible plays, and all the countless moments that happened because you were here." The team adds that they're "proud of what this team and community have built together." I definitely got this sense from Olivier Albarracin during my Rainbow Six Mobile developer interview, in which he said that he was "hoping to be there for a long time with the team and the game". This is a pretty tragic end for his dream.

Oh wait, it is: a CookieRun movie is in the oven, and it'll bring the story of GingerBrave and co. to the big screen in a couple of years. Tasty, eh? The rights to a CookieRun movie are now optioned to Big Shot Pictures, which essentially means they have the rights to make it into a film. Devsisters (CookieRun's developer team) created the studio in partnership with Brian Robbins. - whose work you'll recognize from his involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog's release, and he's got credits at Nickelodeon, too. The only catch is that the movie is scheduled for release in 2029. That seems quite far off, but it'll come around quickly. The reason it's set for 2029 is so that the film can release during the 20th anniversary of CookieRun OvenBreak, which debuted in June 2009 and is still going strong on mobile.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser is one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time and one of the genre's most gruesome mainstream offerings. For years, I've wondered why we never got a game. Pinhead and the Cenobites are primed to unleash hell on all of us - think of the wonderful sights they can show us. Finally, a studio felt the same way, with Saber Interactive bringing us Hellraiser: Revival. Instead of following the narrative from any of the movies, you get to experience a fresh story, one Clive Barker himself helped create. He's not the only OG to make a comeback on this project, with the legendary Doug Bradley reprising his iconic role as Pinhead, a character he portrayed in eight out of 11 Hellraiser movies. Still, despite the inclusion of these two, I had some reservations - would Revival be as brutal as the franchise calls for? The game begins with the protagonist, Aidan Lynch, getting down and dirty with his girlfriend Sunny, immediately ticking the 'pleasure' box that you typically get in Hellraiser media. He decides to use the Genesis Configuration (not to be confused with the Lament Configuration), a puzzle box with disastrous consequences if you don't know what you're doing), has no clue what it is, cuts Sunny, and opens a door to the dark and chilling Labyrinth. From there, you run through the maze-like hellscape in search of your girlfriend. During this time, you learn some of the basics of the game, including the fact that the Genesis Configuration is going to be a very important item, and not just for the typical reasons, but because you can use it to overcome obstacles in the Labyrinth.

AMD's FSR 4 upscaling tech is coming to more PC gaming handhelds this year

If you've got a Lenovo Legion Go, Asus ROG Ally X, or another AMD-powered handheld, your gaming experience could be on course for a graphics boost. A new report suggests that AMD's Jack Huynh, senior vice president of computing and graphics, has confirmed that a special version of FSR 4, the AMD upscaling equivalent to Nvidia's DLSS, is coming to more devices, but there's one notable exception - the Steam Deck. According to fresh information acquired by the Korean outlet The Elec and further reporting from TechSpot, AMD is introducing FSR 4 support for RDNA 3-class handhelds before the end of the year. That should include both the Asus ROG Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go, which are already two of the best handheld consoles on the market. If this upscaling tech does come to those devices, they'll be even easier to recommend. The special version of FSR 4 is, according to the reports, a lightweight version of the software, aimed at enhancing image quality and issues surrounding low latency. AMD hasn't shared any precise performance data yet, though, so we'll have to wait and see just how much of a boost FSR 4 can provide.

In the recent years of game companies trying to achieve high-fidelity graphics, sometimes with the end goal of photorealism, my heart has longed for a better time. In a lot of modern games, I miss something that only arcade machines, Monkey Ball platforming, and slightly crusty-looking racing games can fill. As it turns out, my preview of Muramasa: Revenant Blades scratched the itch too - in a way I wasn't really expecting. Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a remake of Muramasa Rebirth and its DLC, repackaging the original game into a modern format. Revenant Blades takes a hack-and-slash side-scroller with six character paths, each with their own story and abilities, and improves graphics while adding English voiceover and a couple of new features. These include a new gallery, a character viewer, and replays, so you can jump into any point in the game without restarting.

Without a doubt, Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the best RPGs not just of this generation, but in the entire genre, period. It's a phenomenal experience, and given its popularity and strong reception, I knew Capcom would capitalize on it through an expansion, especially as it did with the original game through Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. Try your best not to confuse that with Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen going forward, because Capcom wanted to make things more complicated than necessary. Since the base game is now more than two and a half years old, I won't go into much detail on the story here and will instead focus on the expansion and how well the game runs on Nintendo Switch 2. Still, I can't pass up the chance to gush about this epic adventure, at least a little. Immediately, I felt right at home, creating my Arisen and setting off on a grand journey, embracing the Fighter class to begin with, then switching to Thief, at least until I got my hands on the one true vocation for me - Mystic Spearhand. I love the combination of brutal melee and magic. No matter what your preferred approach to combat is, DD2 has a good option for you.

Monster Hunter Rise returns five years after its release, thanks to Netflix

We're less than a month out from Monster Hunter Outlanders launching on mobile, but Capcom has another surprise up its sleeve. According to new App Store and Google Play listings, we're getting a mobile port of Monster Hunter Rise through Netflix's games system. Listings have appeared on the App Store and Google Play in the Philippines (thanks to RPGSite for spotting) for Monster Hunter Rise Netflix, a mobile port of 2021's ARPG that you can download and play for no additional cost if you have a Netflix subscription. According to the description, this version of Monster Hunter Rise adds a Recovery Button that "automatically selects the most effective item from your inventory during a fight" and fully reconstructed controls designed for mobile. We're not sure if the port supports mobile controllers on Android, but the App Store says that a range of peripherals will work, if you prefer to use a controller over on-screen buttons. Back when it launched on the Nintendo Switch, we gave this addition to the series a 9/10 in our Monster Hunter Rise review, so it's fantastic to see it arrive on a new platform, included in the price of a service that many people already pay for. That being said, Netflix Games as a service doesn't have the best reputation, as games aren't guaranteed to stick around. Reddit user HeroOfTheMinish pointed out this issue in a thread in r/MonsterHunter about the port, saying, "Netflix could remove it in six months and all your progress is lost."

Almost three years after the launch of the original handheld, it looks like a PlayStation Portal OLED could be on the way. While Sony's game streaming device hasn't proven as popular as the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck, there's still an active player base, many of whom have been waiting for an OLED version. According to some fresh information, it could be in the works. These new details are courtesy of social media tipster Zuby_Tech, via X, and point to two new Wi-Fi Alliance certificate listings from Sony, under the model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105. That's noteworthy because the current Portal models are identifiable by their model numbers CFI-Y1000, CFI-Y1001, and CFI-Y1016. This update also follows a supposed leak from earlier in 2026, courtesy of Kepler_L2, suggesting an OLED version of the device was on the way as early as this year. Zuby_Tech previously claimed the PlayStation Portal OLED could support a 120Hz refresh rate, while the current LCD model is limited to 60Hz. That upgrade would significantly enhance gaming on the Portal, as higher refresh rates make for smoother gameplay, while an OLED display means more vivid colors and true blacks. Last year, we saw SteamOS, Valve's Steam Deck operating system, roll out to more handhelds to replace Windows 11. Now, it seems it's the turn of Android devices. With Valve recently releasing an ARM version of SteamOS for the Steam Frame, the community is taking it upon itself to bring the software to more handhelds. DroidDeck is a little bit different, though, running Valve's native ARM64 Steam client in a Steam Deck-style interface. Essentially, DroidDeck is an app that enables you to sign into your Steam account, download your favorite games, and play them on your Android handheld. It's not the only app that works like this; there are also GameNative, GameHub, and others, but considering the latest 0.3.0 version only just arrived, it is pretty impressive for an early build, and the ambition is clear. Not only can you load up your favorites from our guide to the best Steam Deck games in Big Picture mode, but you can make the app read the controller as a Steam Deck controller. The latest update to DroidDeck also supports LSFG frame generation, as well as Decky Loader. You do have to buy the plugin and have it in your Steam library first, though.

Over the last half a decade or so, I don't think there's any game I've played quite as much as Vampire Survivors. With the arrival of each DLC offering, I've hoovered up the new content like Nosferatu at a blood bank for more bullet-heaven goodness. Now, though, something different is coming: an all-new game, combining the gameplay of the breakout indie roguelite with an absolute behemoth of an IP. Yes, I'm talking about Warhammer Survivors, the result of a collaboration between poncle, Auroch Digital, and Games Workshop. Recently, I got the chance to preview some extended gameplay footage ahead of the launch of Warhammer Survivors, complemented by a bit of developer commentary. I should be clear that at this point I haven't gone hands-on with the game myself, but I do have a better idea of what to expect now, as if I wasn't already excited enough to mow down some fresh waves of enemies and put together some mind-blowing combos. I should also caveat here that while I'm not the most knowledgeable about the Warhammer hobby, I have spent well over 200 hours playing Vampire Survivors and am responsible for its place in our guide to the best iPad games. Vampire Survivors' developer poncle has finally revealed a specific Vampire Crawlers mobile release date, and it's arriving in just less than a week. The announcement came as part of an ongoing series of dev posts around the next free content update, Death Parade. If you missed Vampire Crawlers' release back in April 2026 and have no idea what it's about, it's a deckbuilding roguelike game based in the universe of poncle's smash-hit indie title, Vampire Survivors. It initially launched on the Nintendo Switch, PC, and other consoles, but we always assumed it would land on mobile eventually, as card games tend to thrive on touchscreens. As well as the mobile release date news, the latest Dev Update post revealed some more details about the upcoming Death Parade expansion, the first of three major updates that the team has already teased. Kingdom Hearts is easily my favorite game series of all time, and is certainly the one that had the biggest impact on my life since I first picked it up as a kid, kickstarting my passion for the industry that I now work in as an adult. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, either, which is why it's so exciting to see the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] finally arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 at long last. While it seemed unlikely that the original Switch would've been capable of running 2019's Kingdom Hearts III, it always seemed odd that the prior games, especially the 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, never arrived on Nintendo's popular hybrid platform. The series has a history on Nintendo handhelds, and, with the right tweaking, it felt like running PlayStation 2 and GBA games was more than doable. However, it was definitely a 'be careful what you wish for' type of scenario, as Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece arrived in 2023, dashing many of our hopes and dreams. If you hadn't heard, this collection was actually a Cloud version on Switch, meaning you had to rely on a consistent, stable internet connection in order to run it, which pretty much defeats the purpose of being able to play in handheld mode.

Over a year after the hybrid console launched, it looks like we could finally be getting the first 2TB microSD Express card for Nintendo Switch 2. It's been a long time coming, considering the size of some Switch 2 games, such as the 100GB+ Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and 60GB Cyberpunk 2077. However, there is a bit of a caveat. This storage solution isn't going to come cheap. Reddit user Icalivy first spotted the Suneast 2TB microSD Express while looking at the 1TB version on Amazon, with the 2TB model advertised in the banner images on the page. For context, 2TB is big enough to download all the games in our guide to the best Switch games with room to spare. It doesn't appear to be on sale yet, though. On price, we don't know what to expect, but with the 1TB version already at a whopping $299.99, we doubt it'll be cheap. It also doesn't help that storage is currently at a premium, given the ongoing issues surrounding component pricing and availability. Some comments on the original Reddit post speculate that this 2TB microSD Express card could realistically be upwards of $500, if not dramatically more, but we won't know for sure until Suneast launches it.
