We have been really lucky to have such great community support from our Sponsors.

Wilmington University- home of fantastic continuing education classes as well as a great college education- stepped up to help make sure Podcamp happened in Wilmington. We are very grateful, and excited that they recognize how important events like Podcamp are to our community.

Constant Contact also came up huge for us, and has been tireless in helping folks in and around Delaware understand Digital Marketing. Thank you!

Epic Marketing, with Don & Nancy Dibert, are also event sponsors for Podcamp and were the very first on board. They offer comprehensive, 360 degree marketing and communication services, and are simply a joy to work with. You should give them a call to help you with all of your marketing needs- they do it all, and it is all Epic!

MySherpa also jumped in early to support Podcamp, and understand the importance of mastering technology in your business- Call them- they are on it.

AB& C Creative Intelligence also supports Podcamp- they offer analysis and insight services for all this “digital stuff”- if you want a real leg up on your competition, they are your resource!

Likewise, Hunter Boyle and the folks at A Weber have consistently supported Podcamp Philly and now Podcamp East. They have many great email solutions for your business- check them out!

Del Tweetup also contributed to Podcamp, and we’re really grateful!

O3 World and DJ Waldow also have provided terrific support for Podcamp East- and Paul Muller and Puzzle Piece Productions provided us with great website assistance- Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for all of your support and for making this a truly memorable weekend!

In addition to the great folks and businesses that have supported Podcamp East, a few folks have stepped up to help us out that I need to mention. Andrew and Kendall and LTL Prints have a great business that make large wall decals you can use anywhere and don’t mark up the walls, and printed some outstanding ones for us to help recognize our sponsors. Thanks guys!

Ben and the great folks at LOMA Coffee in Wilmington are bringing us coffee and breakfast at Podcamp- making them my heros. Events run well when everyone has a bite to eat and a little caffeine beforehand, and LOMA is really helping us make this happen. Thanks Ben!

Denis and the folks at Media Components have helped us get our signage together- Thanks Denis- your company does fantastic work, and we really appreciate it!

The Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has been tireless in helping us get things like the hotel rates, transport discounts and more in place. They are also working with local restaurants around the venue to provide discounts and information to Podcamp guests, and will have information available at Podcamp for you. Thanks to Sarah and her whole team for making this truly fantastic.

The Grand helped us out as well by providing its venue for our evening event- Ignite Wilmington 7. Thank you!

Of course, I also want to thank everyone on our organizing team- Ken Grant, Gloria Bell, Melissa Ayers, Bill & Patty Rowland, Paul Muller from Puzzle Piece Productions, Mark Mobley, Jenni Brand, Don & Nancy Dibert, Jessica Kupferman from Social Media Club, Michelle Wolverton and Chris Penn from Podcamp Boston, Alan Chaess, Lynette Young, and Steve Lubetkin. (If I have forgotten anyone, it is unintentional and totally based on being a bit overwhelmed getting everything together.) You guys have been supportive, terrific in every respect possible, and I feel lucky to work with such a great group.

10. It’s easy to get here- right off of I-95, with free parking, or just two blocks from the Amtrak and SEPTA- it’s super convenient.

9. It’s going to rain this weekend, why not learn something new?

8. It’s in Delaware- Home of Tax-free shopping- so you can save tons on buying a new iPhone from the Apple Store, and learn about mobile apps for your business, all in the same day!

7. You will finally be able to answer the question, Dela-Where?

6. Where else can you meet best selling authors in the business and social media world like Jason Falls, CC Chapman, Chris Penn and Geoff Livingston all in one place, for only $20?

5. Your admission cost- $20 for both days, goes directly to support Tech Girlz, a local non-profit helping teens learn tech and entrepreneurial skills.

4. Podcamp East has two full days of killer content- you’d be silly to miss an opportunity not only to meet these dynamic speakers, but to build relationships with other small business and non-profit folks in the Mid-Atlantic region.

3. When was the last time you met a sitting Governor? Governor Jack Markell, Delaware’s governor and also Chair of the National Governor’s Association will be opening Podcamp East!

2. Have questions about social media and politics? US Senator Chris Coons will also be speaking at Podcamp East!

1. It’s the best way to have your questions on Social Media and Entrepreneurship answered- from How To’s to Understanding Search Engine Optimization to Building Online Communities, all in one place. We double dare you to find a better value- even books on social media cost more!
(And we have some great giveaways as well !)

Your ticket to Podcamp East will go to this year’s charity recipient: TechGirlz. What is TechGirlz, you ask? Gloria Bell, one of the TechGirlz volunteers, shared this with us:

Having grown up with an interest in computers, but no real visible path to a career in tech and no one to really encourage me to head that direction, TechGirlz is the organization I wish had existed when I was in middle and high school. The IT field is the nation’s largest industry, but startling research shows that although there are many tech-savvy young girls in America many are opting out of pursuing a career in technology, making women the minority in the IT field. TechGirlz is here to inspire young women to shatter the statistics.

TechGirlz provides adolescent girls with programming to show them that a future in technology does not necessarily equate to a “boring computer job” but instead transcends the cubicle into nearly every field imaginable. By encouraging young women to participate in science and technology today, as well as providing a solid foundation of peers, mentors and positive role models, TechGirlz hopes to spark innovation, exhilaration and motivation in young women to become tomorrow’s tech leaders. In addition to their local, in-person programming, TechGirlz is building an online community to reach more young girls regionally and beyond.

When Founder, Tracey Welson-Rossman first began talking about TechGirlz, I, and several others, committed to doing anything and everything we possibly could to help her make this endeavor succeed. And succeed it has, already beyond anything we could have imagined in those first few conversations. One of the teams going to the FIRST robotics World Invitational Open consists of five TechGirlz. The girls in the program have built their own websites, learned 3D gaming and built their own electronic jewelry. The girls are learning that gender barriers do not have to exist in any industry. They can love and learn anything. More importantly they are learning that there are no limits to what they can do. We can not give our young women any more important lessons than these.

It is hard to find the words to describe watching a young woman’s face when they solve a problem on their own, find the perfect theme for the website they just built or get to play the video game they designed. It is like they know, they can feel, that all the doors in the world have opened for them. The only thing holding TechGirlz back from impacting more young women’s lives is more funding and awareness. Since the Delaware Valley is one of the fastest growing tech communities in the country, we are calling on that community and everyone who believes in empowering young women to be the future tech leaders, to rally around TechGirlz, raise money and awareness for them.

Our call to action is simple – Invest in the future of the next generation and the future of technology.

One of the best things about being part of the Delaware community is that it’s easy to get to know people – even our government officials. You see them at events, in the grocery stores, when you go out to eat- and they come to events that go beyond ribbon butting ceremonies. You get to know our leaders as people as well as icons or names in the newspaper. At a recent Tech meet-up this summer, Governor Markell stopped by and spoke to the group for a few minutes, remembering his time working at Nextel when he was Employee #13- when Nextel was a start-up as well. He understands entrepreneurship, start-up culture, and what it takes to grow a business, because he’s been there himself. He also knows it takes a mix of spirit, ideas, and support to help make a community and its businesses flourish. The Governor has been a supporter of the social media community in Delaware and has gotten involved in digital media ever since he signed up and sent his first Tweet from a “tweetup” in Newark, DE a few years ago.
I’m not sure the tech, digital and social media communities could ask for a better leader in government or one that understands the challenges ahead, more than Governor Jack Markell. It speaks volumes that he is coming to help us open Podcamp East on Saturday, September 29, and I know you will be as impressed as I am with his knowledge and commitment to our community. Many thanks to Governor Jack Markell and his staff for making Podcamp a priority. It speaks volumes, and we look forward to seeing you there!

We’ll be putting together a guide for Podcamp east shortly, including everything from the “itinerary”, places to grab coffee and/or lunch, to sessions, to What to do In and Around Wilmington during your stay. (Don’t forget to check out VisitWilmington.Com for more information on that as well.)

After having a great walk-through of the facility yesterday with the folks from Delaware Tech, I know we’re going to have a great event- they could not be nicer, and are working hard to make sure everyone has a good time and the wifi is good. (Every tech conference I have ever been to- even the big guys in NYC- has had the wifi slow down due to the number of people accessing it at any one time, so we’ll say it now and at the event- be polite. Don’t stream live video, so speakers have a chance to get wifi for their presentations, and share, but don’t over-share, so others can use it, too. That way, we’ll all be happy )

I annotated a Mapquest Map below, so you can see how close the Conference center is to the hotel, Amtrak, Parking, and The Grand Opera House, where Ignite Wilmington, our evening event, will be held. You will need to get tickets for Ignite Wilmington, and if you want to speak, that has a separate sign up as well on the Ignite site. We are working on a buffet style dinner option at The Grand Opera House before Ignite starts, available for an additional charge to just cover the costs, making it a nice option for those wanting to sit, eat and not feel rushed.

You need to make reservations for this buffet by calling The Grand box office directly- (800) 37-GRAND or 302.652-5577

In addition, please note that the Grand does sell beverages, alcohol and snack type items that are allowed in the auditorium, making it a casual, fun night for everyone.

If you have any questions, please email us at podcampeast@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to get you the information you need.
