I spent the last 365 days living and breathing animals! From caring for my 30+ exotic animal rescues including Soni and Chompers the alligators, Shere Khan and Buddy the giant Burmese Pythons, my large Sulcata Tortoise family, snapping turtles, and my pet emu, Napoleon. To traveling the world to exotic places full of wildlife including South Africa for wild lions and leopards, to the deep forests of Uganda searching for the rare Mountain Gorillas. 2025 has been one incredible year! In this end of the year recap, my wife and I sit down in the Alligator House (with the alligators) and go over our highlights, month to month. I share never-before-seen footage AND for the FIRST TIME EVER we share some exciting updates, including a top-secret film project and our goals for the animals in 2026. On July 1st the new bill will allow hunters to kill wolves and their puppies using traps, snares, dogs, snowmobiles, poison, etc. Maggie discusses how there is absolutely no science to back up the claims that wolves take a devastating toll on livestock (less than .004% average in Idaho) and elk populations, which are at an all-time high. ***Please listen and share with friends and family! National Geographic Photographer Joel Sartore

In this episode, I interview world-renowned photographer, speaker, author, and conservationist, Joel Sartore. Joel has been working with the National Geographic for over 30 years. He has visited over 40 countries and photographed thousands of different species. He founded the National Geographic Photo Ark. It’s a multiyear effort to document every species living in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, inspire action through education, and help save wildlife by supporting on-the-ground conservation efforts. To date he has photographed 11.500 species. His goal is to reach 20,000 species!

As you’ll find out in the interview, Joel initially reached out to me to photograph two of my animals. “Irwin” my Solomon Island Tree Skink and my Blue Panay Tarantula. It turns out Irwin, my skink I’ve had for 13 years, is quite rare! A taxonomist came back and said Irwin was a Solomon Islands Tree Skink, Corucia zebrata, ‘Malaita form’. Irwin is likely a southern form of this skink with possible mixed heritage.

He goes into detail what it was like working with two of the world’s remaining Northern White Rhinos and how that experience motivated him to sell everything he owned, and move to Africa to become a ranger. In this episode, I interview Henry Kacprzyk, curator of Reptiles and Kids Kingdom at The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. We discuss his exciting 38 year career at the zoo working his way up from keeper to curator.

Henry talks about his early beginnings in the 80's during the zoo's transition from old victorian style exhibits to more naturalistic. We then discuss his early days as a Big Cat keeper and why he prefers working tigers over lions. He then talks about the zoo's groundbreaking breeding programs and how they are helping to save endangered cats like the Amur Leopard. Other fun topics include his humorous outlook on being a midwife for a giraffe, his "dream" exhibit, and advice on anyone who wants to pursue a career in the zoo world.
