Westwood is beginning a revitalization process with City to City. What it is, who's guiding it, and five ways you can take part, starting with the survey.

Westwood is heading into a season of listening. Over the coming months, and through the end of 2027, our church is walking through a revitalization process with City to City: praying, listening and discerning together where God is at work and where he is leading us next as a church in Prince George.

In this video, Steve Chase and Mike Ray, who lead our revitalization working group, share what the process is, why we’re doing it, and how you can be part of it.

What is City to City?

City to City helps churches grow, thrive and plant new churches. Their heart is to help each church do the work God has for it right where it is, sharing the gospel in a way that is meaningful in its own community. We’re working with City to City Australia, and Jamie Bester is walking with us as a trusted outside advisor.

Westwood connected with City to City through Pastor Rob Thiessen, who helped us navigate a season of change over the past year. He heard stories from other churches, including Mennonite Brethren churches in the Lower Mainland, that came together around common prayers for their community, a common vision of what God was calling them to, and a shared understanding of how they would work together to invite people into a relationship with Jesus.

Everyone is invited

This is an inclusive, invitational process. One phrase from our early conversations with City to City has stuck with us: helping each person locate themselves in the local ministry of their church. God has gifted and equipped so many people at Westwood, and we want to hear your story: what he is doing in your life, and where you see him leading us.

And God is already at work. Rose and Moses recently shared how people are coming to know Jesus and being baptized through our apartment ministry and Oasis, as newcomers find a home in Prince George. Our youth are sharing the gospel boldly, and with love and compassion, in their schools. These are the kinds of stories this process will help us gather and listen to together.

Over the coming weeks, Jamie will listen in a few ways: one-on-one conversations, meetings with leadership teams, and a survey for the whole church. From there we’ll set goals together for the months and years ahead, building on the mission, vision and DNA we recently launched.

Five ways to take part

Pray. Pray for Westwood and your family, for our pastors, and for the ministry leaders and serve teams who give so faithfully.

Listen. Pay attention to what the Spirit is saying, on your own and with others. Ask each other: what are you hearing from God, and where do you see him moving?

Share. Tell the stories of what God is doing in your life and where you see him at work around you.

Be excited. God is moving. Westwood is an exciting place to be, and Prince George is an amazing city to serve in.

Take the survey. The survey is open now. Please add your voice by Sunday, November 1.

The survey is open now

Whether you’ve been at Westwood for decades or you’re just getting to know us, we’d love to hear from you. The questions will help you look back at what God has been doing in your own life, celebrate it, and ask, “God, where to next?”

It takes 10 to 20 minutes. Do it online, or pick up a paper copy at the booth in the foyer.

It’s fully anonymous. City to City runs the survey and puts together a report for us; Westwood’s team never sees names or individual answers from the survey, interviews or meetings.

Our goal is for 80 to 90 percent of our church family to take part, about 400 to 500 people.

Get your survey link on the Revitalization page →

Who’s guiding this?

A revitalization working group of 19 people has been prayerfully put together from across our church family, including elders, pastors, staff and others who serve throughout Westwood. Steve and Mike lead the group alongside City to City. Chances are you know someone on it, and you can see the whole team on the Revitalization page. Reach out to them with your questions, or if you’d like to share part of your story and what you see God doing.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Proverbs 16:9

Please pray with us that the Lord would establish our steps, and bring us together to reach Prince George with the good news of Jesus. We’re excited for what’s ahead, and we look forward to doing it together.

Home after 29.5 hours of travel: saying goodbye to our family in Lampang, and why this trip feels like the start of a partnership, not the end.

Growing up, all of my family lived in Canada. Some summers were spent travelling through parts of Alberta and southern BC to visit family members. I remember long car rides, especially the 8 hour drive to and from the Edmonton area. For long trips I would always make sure I had plenty of activities to do: reading, crafting, listening to stories, and lots of great snacks. The first couple hours were so fun, switching to and from activities, watching the scenery go past, and eating snacks. But the last couple hours of that travel felt like torture, especially on the way back; all the books were finished, it wold often be dark outside with no view of the scenery, all the snacks are gone, and everyone is just trying to get home to our own beds and some space from one another. Our recent trip back to Canada was the longest trip I have ever taken to come home. From the moment we left the hotel in Chiang Mai to stepping on the tarmac at the Prince George Airport, which both moments somehow happened on March 27th, we travelled for 29.5 hours (shoutout to Ava for keeping track). As much as it was sooooooo nice to sleep in my own bed and take some time on my own the last 24 hours, it is bittersweet. As a kid the most I would have to travel to visit family was 8 hours; now to visit family it will take 30 hours of travel.

That is how the last couple days with the Lampang church and saying goodbye felt, like family. It is hard to put into words how we all feel about our brothers and sisters in Lampang, all the memories we have together, and how we are now counting down the days till we are together again. The goodbyes were filled with equal amounts of laughter and tears and steeped in prayer for one another. Getting onto the plane in Chiang Mai did not feel like the end of the trip as much as the start of this partnership. I am so excited for all of you to hear more about our family in Lampang in the coming weeks, through stories, pictures, and prayers. I hope you all the Lampang church is avidly praying for Westwood, even by name, every week. The investment in this relationship is not one-sided for either of our churches, we are going to walk forward as partners in God’s kingdom on earth and as family for eternity.

Though we are still early into this partnership this trip has given so many ideas and opportunities for us moving forward. In the coming weeks we all hope to share more with all of you; what we learned, who we met, and what we saw God do. If you see a team member anytime in the next couple weeks, please ask them two things: What did you learn from the Lampang Church and how can we pray for the church members? Thank you for following along in the journey. Though the trip may be over, the partnership is really just getting started, so continue to follow along in prayer as we discern as a church how to continue to move forward.

More stories and pictures to come, getting some rest for now – Thailand Team 2026.

Koinonia means fellowship. How the Lampang church has welcomed the team as family, and why everyone at Westwood is part of this partnership too.

“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”

– Philippians 2:1-2

Each new day has brought different adventures and deeper community with the church in Lampang. For those reading from Westwood, I hope you know that you are a part of this community as well. Speaking with the church members, they feel as if we are their family. Though we each have personal relationships with the members here, we are also representatives of you and your relationship with our sister church here. It comes up frequently how they are praying for us, praying for Westwood, and are encouraged by the stories of God at work in Prince George. As a member of Westwood I am so blessed to be a part of our church community there and here with our Khmu brothers and sisters in Thailand. Our team is committed to building relationships with this church, as they are with us. I am so grateful and encouraged by the way many of you have joined us, through prayers, through financial support, through messages of encouragement, and through even taking the time to read these updates and get a glimpse of what God is doing. Whether you were on the 12 hour plane ride here or not, you are a part of this partnership, included in this relationship and fellowship. This is koinonia, a Greek word in the Bible which means: “fellowship, sharing in common, communion.”

Though it may seem like there are many differences between Westwood and the church in Lampang, we share the most important thing; Jesus. In hearing testimony, praying together, and worshipping together I have seen how God is at work in each of their lives, just as he is at work in Prince George. We all first have koinonia with Jesus;

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” – John 1:6-7

We are united through Christ, having the same purpose and serving alongside each other. What a gift it is to have Koinonia with believers all over the world, to learn from each other, encourage each other, and love out the gospel together. Our trip is not the start of this relationship, it has been built upon the foundation of past relationships and teams, and we are tasked as a team and a church with carrying it forward.

That has been on my mind lately. I have so enjoyed the fellowship with the church members here, being in their homes, meeting their children, and sharing meals together. But what does fellowship look like once we step onto that plane next week? What does it look like for Westwood? I don’t have a full picture of that, but it is on my heart and mind. Right now I am committed to continue reaching out though social media, to continue praying, and to continue to listen to the Holy Spirit for how we are to move forward together. What does it looks like for you to engage with our sister church in fellowship? I don’t have a great answer for that either, but both you and I can be in prayer asking the One who knows more than we can ever comprehend. Please join me in prayer over this together

Thank your for all the messages of encouragement and prayer, it has meant so much to the team, especially on the long full days. Today I would ask that if it is on your heart, take a couple minutes to lift up the prayer requests below and send a message of encouragement. This could be a message for the team or a message for the church. It would be wonderful for them to hear how the church in Canada is supporting them even from a distance: https://westwoodthailandteam2026.blogspot.com/p/prayer-support.html?m=1

Prayer Requests:

Pray for Sombat and his family – his son is starting an internship for computer science in Bangkok for four months. His son will not get to see his family during that time and they don’t know if he will be with any other believers. Also pray as Sombat and his family are planning on building a roof in the backyard of their house so that they can host more people at their house for outreach events even in the heat of the day. Also pray for his younger son as he is still in school.

Pray for Somkit and his family – his wife is expecting their third child and had developed diabetes with their second child. Please pray for a healthy pregnacy. Also pray for Somkit in his job, pray that his boss will be kind to him.

Pray for Sompon and his family. Sompon has been mistreated at his job, but through that God has given him opportunities to share the gospel and pray for them. Pray for his daughter Faa, as she is getting ready to go to university in the fall. She will be pursuing a degree in communications – she does not know other believers at school and is nervous for how that will go. Many of the parents with kids going off to university have asked for prayer as they are worried about their kids faith as they go off to school.

Pray for the family of Simtam. Him and his family were kicked out of their village for turning to Jesus. They now live separated from the village and are also outside of Lampang. They are a bit isolated and it is not easy for them. Also pray for their oldest daughter as she is trying to study the bible while going to nursing school and working as an assistant nurse.

Pray for Gong and Jeep. Jeep has been in a lot of pain after having a c-section with some complications afterward. Pray that she would be relived of the pain and for their safety as they preach the gospel in Lampang.

Pray for Faa as she continues to translate both Thai and English. Pray for good rest and for a clear mind as she continues to bridge the language gap for our team and the Lampang church.

Pray that we would be able to find diesel for the church van and for church members as they try to find it as well – there is a shortage in the country due to panic buying and the war in the middle east.

English lessons, Google Translate chats and Westwood's famous bus game: a Tuesday with the kids and youth of the Lampang church.

Yesterday, when I asked one of the girls if there were any games she liked at school, she just shook her head. I then asked if she liked any games at all, which she enthusiastically nodded to. She explained that they do not play any games at school, all they do is study (probably why she is so smart and picked up the English very fast). I told her that in Canada we like to play lots of games when learning at school, she was very excited to learn English, but more excited to play games at our “school”. And of course you can’t have “school” without a school bus. Since a big yellow bus would not fit into any of our suitcases, we used the chairs at the church instead. If you have been to Junior Youth Group at Westwood (which I may be biased but I think everyone should be there, leader or youth, it is so much fun – shoutout to any youth reading this!), you may have played the bus game.

This game involves seven rows of chairs, set up as the “bus” and each row is assigned a day of the week. We start with sunday at the front and then call a day of the week and all the rows have to reorder according to the order of the week if that new day is at the front of the bus. The last people to sit down in the right row are then eliminated. I was not sure how this would go, it has been a little overwhelming coming up with English activities on the fly as we have been asked to teach more English than we prepped for, but God is good and has been working through the whole team to come up with fun and engaging ideas. As soon as we started playing they got so competitive – chairs and people were flying at some points. When you are rushing against 20 other people to learn the days of the week by switching chairs faster than your friends, you pick up the days of the week pretty fast. Playing together was such a fun way to quickly review and put into action (literally) the English they are learning.

We got to chat with many of the kids and youth through Google translate – when you see a team member back in Prince George you will have to ask them about their google translate conversations, some of them are hilarious. For me, I was chatting with two of the younger girls, Fami and Phi, at lunch. They wanted to know several things about Canada: If we have beds (maybe we looked very tired to them), what drinks I like to have, and if I have a pet Squirrel. I told them I did not, though I had considered it as a kid but had not figured out how to get a squirrel into my house (probably a good thing I never figured that out). The connections have been easy and quick, which shows how the Holy Spirit has been at work, in the moment of connection, in preparing the individuals for this trip (the youth on our team are so natural and seek relationship in every spare moment), and in the past relationships that have been built with other members of our church and other teams that we get to leverage now and build upon.

In the afternoon, we took a break from the games that required lots of movement as it got up to 34 degrees here (sorry to those who were shovelling snow in Prince George today – I will say I don’t miss that at all). So in the afternoon we tasked the kids and youth with designing at least 10 stickers, using paper, markers, and some creative use of packing tape, we officially had a sticker market. The team had prepped some paper dollar bills in the morning. After reviewing the denominations we handed out the “money” to everyone in the room. We started the market and though shy at first they became shrewd business people very quickly (including some of our team members).

It was so fun watching even Pastor Jan and Nolan going around trying to get the best deal from the kids – while the kids tried to upcharge them as much as possible. One of the kids, David, charged Faa 50 “dollars” for one sticker, but offered me one for only five. He did very well and ended the fake market with $389 after only starting with about $100 – when I need business advice in the future I will definitely be seeking his advice.

The whole day was filled with laughter; during the games, at some of the mistakes of google translate, at the team eating spicy food at lunch, and during the rush to sell and buy stickers in the afternoon. There is lots of learning, worship, prayer, testimony sharing, and much more, but there is just so much fun and joy in every part of our days. From teaching line dancing to playing a game with the days of the week and all the small moments of connection in between it is evident how powerful and important joy is in the community of the church. As Paul writes to the church in Rome:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Thank you all for the continued support through words of encouragement and prayer! Here are some things from the last day to be in prayer about:

For the church member Jeep, she serves the church with her husband Gong, she is recovering from a C-section and is in pain.

Please pray for the team today as we are heading out to Jan’s village – pray for easy connections.

Morning studies in Acts, the encouragement Paul shared with the early church, and how your messages from home have been encouraging the team in Lampang.

Each morning our team starts the day with breakfast and scripture study together, squished around the one large table in the hostel breakfast area. We have been reading through the book of Acts and there are so many practical lessons from the life of Paul and the stories of the early church. In reflecting on the early church and Pauls relationship with them, there is a consistent theme of encouragement. In his various letters to churches Paul often gives encouragement to the church and tells them of how he is encouraged by their faith, as he mentions in Romans chapter 1.

“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.” – Romans 1:11-12

At the end of the meetings we have been sharing with the team the messages of encouragement that have been sent in. It has meant so much to the team to hear from the church at home, to be prayed over, and to be encouraged. This morning we got several messages, including one from a youth leader who sent a word of prayer. In this prayer he wrote “… I pray that they might feel like they are able to love out the gospel, despite the language barrier.” He noted in a follow up message that he meant live it out, but that love it out might be even better. After a full day of seeing this team interact with the church members in Lampang through ESL, Kids Camp, sharing meals, and meeting together for worship, I would have to agree that the team was loving out the gospel, despite the language barrier.

As much as you all have been an encouragement to our team, I hope that these stories are also an encouragement to you; that you would be encouarged by the faith of our Khmu brothers and sisters in Lampang, that you would be encouraged by the way the Holy Spirit is continuing to foster relationship between the Lampang church and the church in Prince George, and that you would be encouraged by the faith and servant leadership of the youth on this team who are humbly following Jesus and boldy sharing the gospel. There are too many stories to be able to share them all through these posts, but here are some of the highlights from today.

Today was the first day of doing kids camp at the church. The kids from the church family all came to the church to spend the day with us, they are currently on their summer break. We started off the morning with some songs, first learning a song in Thai with actions – getting to shout “Hey” as loud as you can is fun no matter what language you are singing in. Then we introduced the kids to the VBS songs that we know from Ness Lake Bible Camp, in addition to the camp classic – Pharaoh Pharaoh.

We then did some ESL activities, starting with simple introductions and moving up to being able to ask some basic questions and give answers. I was so impressed with how quickly the kids picked it up and what they knew already – they are definitely faster with English then we are with Thai, though they are very gracious with us. Though as Silas said, “Language is Local, Memes are Universial”. As we learned throughout the morning and afternoon, 6 7 is popular amongst kids all over the world.

Though we prepped a lot for the trip, there are some things that have come up that we did not anticipate. One being teaching more English than planned and needing to come up with activities on the fly. Lauren had the brilliant idea to use the Cupid Shuffle to teach right and left. We had learned to line dance a bit last year as a youth group as part of our Easter celebration – not knowing then that it would come in very handy when teaching ESL a year later, God is always working ahead of us! It was so fun to dance and laugh together while learning the steps:

Google Translate has become my most used app on my phone. Though not perfect, it allows for all of us to be chatted with the kids and youth at the same time. It was so cool at one point in the afternoon when all the team, kids, and youth were working on the craft from Lauren’s lesson and chatting with one other. We were debating if we needed to come up with another activity to fill the last 45 minutes of the day. But looking at the team and the kids building relationships through conversation laughter side games, and coloring, we decided to follow the Holy Spirit who was at work and just let the team love out the gospel.

After taking some time to eat a meal together as a team, where yes some spicy food was sampled (ask Tyler, David, and Cadence about it when you see them), we went to the house of the church member Somkit. The church and every member have been so welcoming to us and are very generous hosts – they too are loving out the gospel as they invite us into their homes. We shared a time of worship together were we sang some songs at the same time in different languages, what a beautiful melody. This was followed by the sharing of testimony. We heard how God has transformed Somkit and his family, from being reliant and focused on alcohol, he has turned to God and shares God with his coworkers and family. David and Cadence also shared testimony about how they have seen God at work and what God has been teaching them. The night wrapped up with the laying of hands on Somkit and his family as we all prayed together.

Thank you for following along in our journey and reading out increasingly long updates. I hope these stories are an encouragement to you and your faith and that you will continue to be a partner in loving out the gospel. Here are some quick things from today that you can be praying over:

Pray for Somkit and his family, his wife is expecting their third child. Please pray for a healthy and safe pregnancy.

Pray for Faa, she is doing an amazing job with all the translations back and forth, pray that God would continue to give her the words she needs, both in English and Thai.

Pray for the team as we continue to build relationships.

Our first Sunday with the Lampang church: worship with our Khmu brothers and sisters, testimonies, 14 baptisms at the river, and an evening at the night market.

Sawasdee ka (hello)! Today was our second full day in Thailand and our first day with the whole Lampang church. This morning we joined our Khmu brothers and sisters for church; to worship together, pray together, and learn about the word of God.

Walking in to the church building and seeing the faces of some church members I had met 8 years ago and recognizing each other brought me so much joy. For the first bit in the morning while those leading worship practiced we got to connect with the church elders and their families. We sang some songs together and the kids did a wonderful job leading us through the actions. While we didn’t know the words to the songs we were all worshipping together.

Throughout the service we heard from Nolan as he preached from the book of Acts. Several church members got up and shared their testimony of how they came to know God and how God has been at work in their lives. It was amazing to hear these stories of transformation – how God was at work in their lives before they knew it sometimes. Some of our team members also shared testimony of how they have seen God at work, though there are many differences between our team and the Thai church members, God unites and transforms us all.

Today was also the first day we started teaching some English lessons. As our kids in Sunday school may remember I had shared with them how nervous I was about teaching English when recently teaching them the story of David and Goliath Sometimes it is easy for me to teach the lesson that God is with us in the challenges, but hard to remember it and put into practice myself. But God is gracious and gives us lots of oppurtunities Though we did not cover much English, mostly introductions, some animals, and body parts like eyes and nose, there was so much fun and relationship. We started with a this or that icebreaker where church members the team members would go to one side or the other based on which option they prefer – it was very close between pepsi and coke, but in terms of stores 7-11 won by a landslide over any other store (we Canadians are really missing out when it comes to good 7-11s). There were lots of laughs while playing this together.

Then we moved on to having each member draw some animals, mostly animals found in Thailand and then we also included a moose to represent Canada. It was so good to see everyone so involved kids and parents all drawing together. The drawings were turned into stickers with the help of David who figured out the night before while quite jet lagged the perfect way to tape them to wax paper so they could be peeled off and stuck onto something later. Then everyone had to find someone else with the same animal and practice introducing themselves in English. We did some other ESL activities, but more than that the Holy Spirit was at work in building connections between the team and church members. Even connections through silly moments, like David demonstrating his moose sound to the church members:

In the afternoon we learned that we were going down to the river for some baptisms We all piled into the van and followed the church members down to the river where 14 church members, mostly kids and teens, were baptized by Pastor Jan and Nolan. It was beautiful to see the commitment those individuals have to God and how they share it with their church family.

We got some down time in the late afternoon and had a chance to refresh and rest before going out the evening to a Night Market (something we also lack in Canada but would be a great addition). There were so many stalls with all kinds of food, drinks, desserts, clothes, anime collectibles, and more. We explored around for a few hours, inhaling in the culture (metaphorically) and the food (literally). The team tried so many things, Ava and Cadence tried some bugs (with overall enjoyment – though crunchy). Katelyn, Lauren and I had the best steamed dumplings and refreshing coconut slushies. David, Tyler, and Silas became fast friends with a man at a juice stall, who though lived in Thailand his whole life spoke with a British accent from watching TV and videos on the internet. And for those who I am sure are wondering, Tyler did try some new food as well – grilled pig intestine, the whole team was very impressed

We are so thankful to God for how he has provided this opportunity for us to grow in our individual relationships and overall Westwood’s relationship with the Lampang church. There are many things to pray about, but the connection and building upon relationships is such a key component of our mission and our shared goal with the church. So please be praying for continued connection (even across the language barrier and for friendship as we enjoy fellowship with church members in their homes this week during the evenings.

After 25 hours of travel the team has landed in Thailand. Highlights from the journey to Chiang Mai and how you can pray for the days ahead.

What a crazy 25 hours it has been! We are now a full day ahead of most of you (don’t worry, we won’t spoil what happens in the future – but it was fun time travelling). Our flights went smoothly after an initial delay in the Prince George Airport, thank you for all who were praying for safe travels, the Lord was looking after us for sure, we even got all our seats together on our longest flights with Nolan somehow being seated right in the very middle:

We are just about to land at our last airport in the next hour at Chiang Mai as I am writing this. The journey has been a great time of bonding with tandem napping times, in-flight monopoly (not sure if David has a future career in property management, haha), new food, and tracking down the best and most caffeinated coffee in the Taipei airport.

Some of the highlights include sitting all together on our long haul flight and watching Zootopia 2 at the same time. We also got to stand on a piece of Canada in the Vancouver airport and feel the breeze of the cool Vancouver air – before going inside due to the cool Vancouver rain. Best photo from the trip so far is below, it captures the exact moment David started eating a can of Mixed Bean Congee from the airport vending machine and Tyler expressed his refusal of David’s offer to try some, haha.

We are so excited to be “boots on the ground” as we land soon and get settled in our accommodations and with the church. Some things to be praying for are updated on the prayer tab – but here are some quick ones from today:

Pray for individual team members as we prepare to share testimony and scripture each night with church members. We took some time on our long plane rides to pull some of our notes from the scripture studies we have been doing and connecting them with testimonies of how we have seen God at work. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to be leading us as we listen for what we should share with the church in Lampang to encourage them through God’s Word.

As we land and get settled, please pray for health, we have be blessed so far in our journey there, though adjusting to the heat and cuisine will come with new challenges.

After David's lesson on the parable of the lost sheep, every team member made a sheep of their own. Can you guess who made each one?

Welcome to the Great Sheep Guessing Challenge! This week David led the team through a Sunday school lesson on the parable about the lost sheep. We had a blast as a team going through the lesson and making our own sheep at the end. Some of them have a looooot of personality It has been so good to have some more time to bond as a team and have some fun together. See if you can guess who made each one and share your scores!

Match each sheep to the team member who made it!

Three weeks out from Lampang: sermon prep on how God calls both the unlikely and the likely, and what everyday discipleship looks like for the team.

Preparing for Thailand: Team Updates

As the trip gets closer, the preparation process has really picked up, and it’s starting to feel more real. We’re just three weeks away from heading to Lampang, and I can’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come in getting ready for this mission.

This week, I presented sermon material to our youth group, using content I’ll be sharing in Thailand. It was a great chance to work through the ideas with an audience and get feedback. The talk centered on how God sometimes calls the unlikely, but sometimes calls the likely too. God’s calling on our lives can align perfectly with our skills, experiences, connections, and relationships. We explored how this played out in the lives of Moses—a shy speaker who was also the only Israelite to become part of the Egyptian royal family—and Paul, who used his past as a Jewish Pharisee and his position as a Roman citizen to bridge the gap between Jews and Gentiles in the early church.

Sometimes we can overlook what feels ordinary in our lives and neglect to surrender those things to God
through obedience. Sometimes it really is God calling the musician to serve on a worship team, the doctor to
care for the sick, and the teacher to teach. Each one of us has unique positions in life that is not the same as
any other person. .

Nolan has been doing some discipleship training with the youth, and the defintion for a
discipleship has been “Doing what Jesus would do if he were you”. We talked about it last night in the
context of WWJD. I often thought about this phrase growing up, but thought it was kinda silly. I thought well
if I could do what Jesus could do, then my life would be perfect; but it
isn’t about me being Jesus, it is about me being like Jesus in my life. Instead of WWJD, I think about
WWJDIHWY (What would Jesus do if he were you). What would it look like for me to obey God and act like
Jesus with my skills, my relationships, my background, and my position in life.

Getting ready for this trip, it’s been amazing to see how our team is coming together. Each of us brings different skills, backgrounds, gifts, and experiences. While we’ll all be stepping out of our comfort zones at times, we’re also a well-prepared team ready to serve God through obedience. One way I’ve seen this clearly is in our collective skill set. A major focus of our trip is running kids’ camps, and every team member has experience working with children—through church ministry, teaching, or serving at NLBC. It’s no accident that a team with so much expereince with kids is heading to serve the kids in the Lampang church community. God has prepared us in our everyday lives, and obedience means serving Him with what we have and trusting Him to equip us where we’re unqualified.

Preparing Together

As a team, we’re all diving into different aspects of the trip. While some are focused on sermon preparation, others are working hard to put together the kids’ lessons and activities. But the beauty of our team is that we’re not just preparing on our own — we’re coming together regularly to read Scripture, pray, and share what we’re learning.

One of the most powerful practices we’ve adopted is listening prayer. We’ve been setting aside intentional time to slow down, listen to God, and ask Him to prepare our hearts for the mission ahead. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the trip itself, but taking time to hear from God has reminded us that this is about His mission, not just ours.

Getting Practical

While the spiritual prep is vital, there’s also a lot of practical preparation happening behind the scenes. We’re coordinating the materials we’ll need for teaching, sorting through supplies, figuring out how to support each other, and making sure we have everything in place for a smooth and efficient trip.

This preparation process is a reminder that, although we’re focused on serving the people in Thailand, we also need to do everything we can to take care of the logistical side of things before we go. It’s all part of making sure that our time in Lampang is used in the best way possible.

Prayer Updates

We’ve also been keeping the prayer page updated with current prayer requests, so be sure to check that out to stay up to date. We’ll be updating it throughout the trip, so you can follow along with what’s happening in real-time and know how to pray for us and the people we’re serving.

How You Can Pray Today

Please pray that as we continue to prepare, we’ll have clarity on the teaching material. Specifically, pray that the messages Nolan and I are preparing for the chutch will be clear, simple, and impactful for the church. We’re also praying for unity as a team. We want to be fully aligned with each other, so please pray that our relationships continue to grow strong as we prepare.

Finally, pray for open hearts. As we work together, we want to stay focused on God’s will for this trip, so pray that we will be sensitive to the needs of the people in Thailand and stay in tune with what God is asking us to do.

Thank you so much for your support as we continue to prepare. It’s truly humbling to know that we’re not doing this alone — we’re grateful for each and every one of you. More updates to come soon!
