This time on Book Snub, we read Slated, a book where they live in a Dystopia that seems to be almost exactly like every other dystopia we’ve read. In this one young criminals get their mind wiped so they get a “second chance” at life, but the catch is they are stuck with an Apple Watch that makes them pass out or die if they get upset. You win some, you lose some.

We bring you our first episode where there are no books involved– despite what Potatoes may claim. This time, we’re snubbing a movie, and it’s Sharkboy and Lavagirl. It’s about dreams that become real, but aren’t real (because they’re dreams). Also Sharkboy is a terrible friend who wants to kill Max.

It’s been 84 years… and finally we return to finish Matched. Cassia searches for artifacts in the physical black market and goes on more boring outings with the boys she lusts over, Xavier and Kyle, neither of which have a personality. Ky writes some very bad poetry.

Stick around after we snub the book to listen to Jazz snub the Aquaman movie and then a brief foray into Stardew Valley discussions.

We read Matched by Ally Condie, a dystopia with a love triangle in which the Society uses the famed match.com algorithms to pair every person with a heterosexual life partner, but shockingly the main character Cassia ends up with two (2) possible pairs. Quick to ride on the easy fame, Ally neglected to actually put thought into this society, or put a plot in the story. Or give the characters personalities. Or-

Jazz finally decides to edit a god damned episode and produce more content. Yes, we finish off Uglies, where Tally and Shay start fighting over a boy they just met whose close physical proximity to Tally must mean they are dating. Scott also attempts to dip his hands into scientific explanations again, with disastrous consequences, such as a bacteria-virus that infects (or eats?) petroleum and shoots off spores. The usual. Oh, and pills that reverse brain lesions for people with tough jobs.

We take a break from Uglies to celebrate Halloween with some spooky short stories, The Monkey’s Paw and The Cask of Amontillado, followed by the bad free Amazon book, Vampire Dead-Tective. Listen for Ivy and Jazz persistently pestering Potatoes with Italian accents.

It’s the first anniversary of Book Snub, and we’re here for one of our best episodes yet, in which we reveal part of our origin story AND we read Uglies, in which Scott Westerfeld doesn’t realize that he made his two characters gay for each other. It’s also full of ~fun~ words like “bubbly” and “littlies” and other things that make you want to Die. Plus a side of casual racism.

This “week,” we read Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, in which Celaena is a world-famous assassin, so like, pretty much the worst possible assassin. But somehow she is brought from the mines she was prisoner in to the Capital, made up to look nice, and entered into a dangerous competition with 23 other competitors, an idea we’ve certainly never seen in any other books before, no siree.

On this episode, we read The Hunger Games, which we admit is Actually Not That Bad. Nevertheless, there are still jokes to be made and plenty of opportunities to make fun of the movies and Jennifer Lawrence’s Singular Facial Expression. Listen as we join Katniss as her sister tells her about Queer Eye, her mom whips up organic herbal Zoloft, she dabbles in stand-up comedy, and looks directly into the cameras like Jim from The Office.

As we finish Twilight, Bella continues to fawn over Edward, who does nothing but act creepy and sparkle sometimes. She also goes down a dark path of drug abuse where she takes Nyquil to help her sleep once. Then, during a loud game of baseball, Stephanie Meyer remembers she forgot to put a plot in her book and shoves it in at the last second with a dangerous evil vampire who wants to suck Bella’s blood.

We’re finally here, snubbing Twilight. This book takes us to meet Bella Swan as she complains about moving to the town of Forks, WA. There she meets the Cullens– which she describes as beautiful but also repeatedly says that they are deathly pale with super dark circles under their eyes so that doesn’t match up. She starts to hang out with Edward, who is totally not manipulative and creepy towards her at all, and she learns that he might be a *spoiler* vampire.

In this episode, we finish up Ready Player One. Wade tries to flirt with Art3mis via creepy action-describing asterisks in a chat, and ultimately she says she isn’t interested in him while jiggling on the anti-gravity dance floor. Unfortunately, Wade does get back in contact with her and his other friends as he races to solve the nerd puzzle.

This time on Book Snub, we read the ultimate greasy gamer bro book: Ready Player One. In a world where society is falling apart, one billionaire dies and decides to donate all his money to one singular person because no one cares about improving society I guess. Whoever solves his video game easter egg riddle based on 80’s nerd culture gets everything. Luckily for him, the person who gets in the lead is a like-minded individual who also doesn’t give a shit about society. Let’s go.

Jazz finally decided to edit an episode and now you may witness as we continue to read Divergent and follow the adventures of Tris as having more than one personality trait starts to be more dangerous for her and her boyfriend, whose real name is definitely not Angus.

Finally we arrive at the YA Dystopia genre to snub Divergent by Veronica Roth. We meet Tris, who has the amazing, unique quality of having more than one personality trait in this world where everyone is divided into snitches, nerds, hippies, hot topic, and depression.

We finally finish Paper Towns, following the insufferable Quentin on his repetitive journey through not being able to interpret Walt Whitman.

This week, we finally live out our dream of complaining about John Green and one of his manic pixie dream girl novels, which is to say one of his novels. Join us as we read Paper Towns and see inside the minds of characters who are so above it all, on another level of deep thinking no one else can achieve– such as still thinking you can suck the venom out of a snake bite.

This week, it’s smell or be smelled with Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Follow the Smellman through the stinkiest country in the world, France, and witness as he tries to finally go from only smelling others to finally being smelled. Take a fucking sniff, babes.

This week, we trash Ray Blueberry’s “Classic” Fahrenheit 451, which includes terrible world-building and spider toasters, but books are forbidden! Never fear, though, loose stacks of paper are totally allowed!

This week, we finish up The Great Gatsby and wonder why Gatsby buys all the books he keeps in his library but never opens a map to figure out where San Francisco is.
