This week being the holidays I have some time to sit and think (a little). As ever in these moments, when lack of work forces me to try to remember what I’m interested in, I turn to Radio 4. I’d pay three times the Licence Fee just to keep listening to Radio 4.

Two highlights this week were on modernism in literature. The first found me, the second I searched for.

I finished teaching my first (and perhaps even my last!) group of PGCE students yesterday. I’d wish them all calm seas and auspicious gales on their journeys through the future. It sounds cliched to say that it’s been a privilege to work with them, but it has. A more open, interested and committed bunch of learners you’d never hope to find, who not only got stuck with the work at Uni and School, but put up with my buffoonery. I loved (almost) every minute of it, and feel a certain sense of pride that I help launch a talented cohort of teachers into the world.

So, unlike Prospero, I won’t be drowning my books, I think I will at least put my sage’s staff away, and get back to school.
