Loads of great stuff to quote, I choose this one. Thankfully, my boss sees it almost like this.

I usually get to work between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Of the 16 people at the company, eight of us live here in Chicago. Employees come to the office if and when they feel like it, or else they work from home. I don’t believe in the 40-hour workweek, so we cut all that BS about being somewhere for a certain number of hours. I have no idea how many hours my employees work — I just know they get the work done.

Aufgrund der Lage zurzeit habe ich weniger Zeit und Muße zu bloggen, vielleicht ist das der Zeitpunkt mal ein neues Experiment zu starten. Irgendwo hab ich auch mal gelesen, dass es gern mehr Videoblogs geben könnte. Mal schauen, was für Tips, Trends, Ideen oder sonstigen Schmarrn ich so in 3-5 Minuten quetschen kann.

Mal sehen, wenn ich das 30 Tage einigermaßen regelmäßig hinkriege, vielleicht gibts dann auch einen Feed etc.

heißt eine Zeile aus einem RHP-Song. Nun mag das für jemanden, der in der Kommunikationsbranche arbeitet vielleicht etwas unreflektiert klingen, aber bevor das hier in einen (möglicherweise hervorragenden) Rant ausartet möchte ich anmerken, dass es unter 5 Kommunikationsarbeitern 10 Definitionen für alles gibt. Daher lediglich ein Zitat aus einem Blog, das mir leider neu ist, aber ganz hervorragende Gedanken ausdrückt:

Die besten Kommunikationslösungen sind für mich die, die den Kunden erreichen. Und wenn ich mir vorher darüber Gedanken gemacht habe, wie ich meinen Kunden erreichen kann, kommen je nach Produkt oder Lösung auch die richtigen Kommunikationskanäle heraus. Und das ist manchmal ein Plakat.

Scobleizer: Foursquare, Gowalla maybe bigger than Twitter revisited

About five weeks ago Robert Scoble wrote a blog post wondering whether location-based service/game Foursquare could become bigger than Twitter. After listening to the 10/15/2009 Gillmor Gang (video) I am inclined to at least give in to “Twitter is nice, but we ain’t seen nothing yet.”
Here is the money quote, from one of the guys behind drop.io if I remember correctly:
“Checking in to a spot is easier than tweeting.”
Read that again and consider how – once you grokked the concept – how easy Twitter works.
And keep in mind that checking in to a location contains much more contextual data, like frequency, which friends go there, what actions where undertaken.

Are you getting the picture?

Are you keeping in mind the metadata deals Twitter did with Google and Microsoft this week? Are you keeping in mind that both Foursquare and Gowalla let users update their Twitter-streams with one click?

As of now, Twitter data as such is still pretty stupid. What I mean by that is is unstructured, not very semantic. Consider adding location info, not only via GPS but structured and with knowledge about who else is there…what could you do with that?

One guest of the show mentioned that his new scale can now automatically send weight and bmi via wifi to a server. Think of nike+. Think of what kind of food suggestions you might get when you next stop at a restaurant, using all of this data.

I am not sure if it will be Foursquare or Gowalla, it doesn’t matter. What matters is: “Checking in is much easier than sending a tweet!”

Espn mobile site adds video – plays on iPhone

Espn’s NHL site has been poorly updated during the off-season and the mobile version was still kind of lame content-wise compared to e.g. tsa.ca/nhl. To me, an NHL-app would be king, like MLB-app that livestreams games. I’d pay 15 euros to watch games on my iPhone easily, considering here in Germany NHL hockey is not available on free-tv.

Sometime this week though, they espn updated the mobile site though, enabling video reports of games. See the small symbol next to the headline.

Click that and the clip comes, quickly and crisp. Well done. But i still want the app!
