I'm currently reading firefly lane by Kristin Hannah. It's about the bonds of friendship between two girls. Originally I was reading Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. I simply had to stop reading after 3 chapters as it didn't hold my attention.

Here's an excerpt from firefly lane, pg. 158:

From the moment Tully did her first on-air broadcast, everything changed. They became the fearsome foursome; Kate and Tully and Mutt and Johnny. For two years they were together constantly, huddled together in the office, working on stories, going from place to place like gypsies.

I'm sorry to say I'll be absent from blogging/ commenting for a few more days as I'm still spending time with John and MyKiah. A Day in December

A cold December wind scuds across my face as I step from my SUV onto the shoulder of KY 11. An abandoned barn with it's faded walls, rusted and patchwork quilted roof is a quiet backdrop to the red berries my camera harvests.

Twenty six eyes stare down at me from the mountain across the road. There. Can you see them? Thirteen turkey vultures clutch a single tree's branches while my feet sidle across the cold, hard surface of the asphalt below.

Around the corner my eyes ingest a small waterfall. Each wave falling away from another. No rest for the weary rocks below it's fury. When I look up I see one, two even four turkey vultures taking flight against this day's winter gray sky. Through my lens I notice one circling vulture peering down. He seems to be saying, "I see you!"

Today also finds me backtracking to say that Poefusion had the pleasure of being featured at She Who Blogs on October 28th. Half Broke Horses

Started reading Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls the other day and so far its not been a disappointing read. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading. Here's an excerpt from pg. 44.

On the way back to the KC, Dad did most of the talking, going on about what great personalities the dogs had and how he was already getting inquiries about them. I sat there, ignoring Dad's prattle about his harebrained schemes. I wondered if buying those dogs had simply given Dad an excuse to stop paying the tuition, so I'd have to come back home. I also wondered where in the blazes was that door Mother Albertina had talked about.

Here's my second locked post. It's been brought to my attention some of you are having trouble viewing my locked posts. First, I'd like to say I'm sorry for this. I wish I could say I'm a genius in computer programming but I can't. I copy and paste most of the things you see here at Poefusion. But, when I do my locked posts I key in the password too. It always works for me so I'm left to wonder what is going wrong for some and not others. My suggestion would be to let Poefusion's page load completely before clicking on the shades of mj link provided. Once it's loaded click on the shades of mj link and key in the password you were given. If you still can't see my posts please e-mail me and I will try to see what's wrong.

Saturday I finished reading The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson. Today I started reading Any Minute by Joyce Meyer and Deborah Bedford. Here's a portion of the blurb from the back jacket.

The Lincoln's nose struck cold water at full velocity. Metal sheered off. She tasted blood. Adrenaline shot through her, numbed her with needlelike precision. I'm in trouble. Her heart pounded faster than it had ever pounded before. When she tried to scream for help, nothing came. Fear clamped her throat, leaving her no voice. The Cross and the Switchblade

Today I finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I'm pleased I didn't go see the movie before finishing the book. It would have ruined the experience I think. Now I can freely watch the movie and make my comparisons.

My next book of choice is called The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson. It's a true story about David Wilkerson, a country preacher, who goes to New York on God's calling. He founded Teen Challenge, an inner- city ministry that today maintains residential and crisis counseling centers around the globe.

I chose this book because I was given a copy while attending grade school at Porter Elementary. I lost the book before I could read it and even watched the film in Porter's gym. Now, years later, I find a fresh copy in my possession and look forward to reading about David's journey. Here's an excerpt from pgs. 11 and 12. The following may not be for all readers so proceed with caution.

"What's the matter with me!" I said aloud, impatiently brushing away a tear. I looked at the picture more carefully. The boys were all teenagers. They were members of a gang called the Dragons. Beneath their picture was the story of how they had gone into Highbridge Park in New York and brutally attacked and killed a fifteen-year-old polio victim named Michael Farmer. The seven boys stabbed Michael in the back seven times with their knives, then beat him over the head with garrison belts. They went away wiping blood through their hair, saying, "We messed him good."
