I have a pet chameleon.
He's great at hide-and-seek.
We played a game and now
I haven't seen him for a week.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

My Kiwi Is the Captain

My kiwi is the captain
of a supersonic plane
that doesn't fly to Switzerland,
or Singapore, or Spain.

It doesn't fly to Jordan,
or Jamaica, or Japan,
or Serbia, Somalia,
Samoa, or Sudan.

It doesn't fly to Nicaragua,
Norway, or Nepal.
It's safe to say it doesn't fly
to anywhere at all.

But that's the way it goes
when you're a kiwi, as you've heard.
It's true that he's a pilot
but he's still a flightless bird.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

An Awesome Opposum

An awesome opposum
with stripes on his fur
ran past me this morning,
a bit of a blur.

It wasn't because
he was speedy, I fear.
My glasses were dirty.
Oh, look, he's still here.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

Whenever Yaks Play Basketball

Whenever yaks play basketball
it isn't any fun at all.
Their games are always such a snore.
They never shoot. They never score.

It seems they don't enjoy the sport.
They never run around the court.
Instead they simply settle back
and yak, and yak, and yak, and yak.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

My Dog Plays Invisible Frisbee

My dog plays invisible frisbee.
He catches invisible balls.
He rides an invisible skateboard.
He hurdles invisible walls.

My dog has perfected the practice
of doing invisible tricks.
He jumps with invisible jumpropes
and fetches invisible sticks.

He barks at invisible mailmen.
He growls at invisible cats.
He'll bring me invisible slippers
and even invisible hats.

He chases invisible squirrels
whenever we go for a jog.
He's clearly the greatest dog ever.
I love my invisible dog.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

I Have a Triangular Kitten

I Have a Triangular Kitten

I have a triangular kitten.
He has a triangular face.
He traipses triangular pathways
through any triangular space.

He plays with triangular cat toys.
He dreams of triangular fish.
He'd like to try angling for tuna
to fill his triangular dish.

Whenever his relatives visit
he's pointedly pleasant and nice.
And, also, my kitten's unequaled
at catching triangular mice.

My kitten is clearly a cute one,
though often obtuse and oblique.
He hasn't a parallel out there.
He's plainly and flatly unique.

The point is we're right for each other.
He's simply the finest I've found.
I like my triangular kitten.
I think that I'll keep him around.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

Toby the Snowboarding Doberman

Toby the Snowboarding Doberman

Toby the snowboarding Doberman Pinscher
is king of the freestyling dogs.
Toby can turn and McTwist in the halfpipe,
and ollie off boxes and logs.

No other Doberman's ever been known
who can slalom and slide on a rail.
Never before has a dog been discovered
to cartwheel and back-flip and flail.

Toby can even leap into the air
and then spin through a 360 flip.
Sadly his talents are never enough
that they'll win him a championship.

True, he's the world's only snowboarding Doberman,
still, I expect you'll agree,
no one has ever been given a prize
when they're stopping to sniff every tree.

While Lying On the Grass Today

While Lying On the Grass Today

While lying on the grass today
and staring at the sky,
I saw the strangest animals
in clouds that drifted by.

I saw a cloud that looked just like
an elephant on skis.
Another one reminded me
of dancing manatees.

I saw a duck on roller skates
play jump rope with a snake,
and monkeys in a monster truck
drive right into a lake.

I watched a bungie jumping cow,
and pigs on pogo sticks,
and beavers on their BMX bikes
doing gnarly tricks.

I spotted donkeys driving
demolition derby cars,
and spied a pride of lions
climbing giant monkey bars.

I even saw a surfing turkey
crash into a tree.
When you watch clouds go drifting by,
do you see what I see?

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved

When Pigs Fly

When Pigs Fly

I've heard it said that pigs will fly
and someday soon they'll rule the sky.
That may sound strange but, if it's right,
I don't suppose they'll fly a kite.
I'll bet, instead, they'll have to train
so they can learn to fly a plane,
or join the Navy where they'll get
to learn to fly a fighter jet.

Or maybe they'll grow piggy wings,
or put on shoes with giant springs,
or fly in huge hot-air balloons,
or seaplanes with those big pontoons,
or biplanes like a flying ace,
or shuttles into outer space,
or rocket ships for trips to Mars,
or flying saucers to the stars.

However pigs decide to fly,
as long as they are way up high
and busy buzzing all around
instead of grunting on the ground,
I think it's safe to say I'll love
to see them soaring up above.
I'm sure I won't be shocked or shaken.
Still, I'll prob'ly miss the bacon.

Copyright © 2009 Kenn Nesbitt.
All Rights Reserved
