This small group size allows for maximum flexibility in obtaining all types of shots including portraits, behavior, close-ups and special requests where possible. You’ll also have the flexibility to easily move to different positions to get the shots you are looking for. You will be able to benefit from my years of experience photographing at Triple D and scouting the various shooting locations. This will help make sure you go home with the best photos possible.

I was the President of an Internet services company for over 10 years where I developed an extensive history of working with and educating adults. I am currently a contributing editor for Outdoor Photography Canada magazine and a professional nature photographer. Some individuals seem to run workshops in order to subsidize their own photography shoots. But, unlike those workshop leaders, I am exclusively there to help you get the best shots. You won’t need to worry about interrupting my photography to ask a question or get advice. This workshop is more than just a series of photo sessions with the wildlife models. It is a full featured workshop offering a complete educational experience.

The staff members at Triple D are simply tremendous and they’ll work with us to help get you a tremendous series of shots. Jay and Kim Deist, the owners of the Triple D, are tremendously generous hosts who provide a terrific service to photographers.

Each participant will receive a copy of my book, Triple D Photography Tips, Tricks and Techniques. Familiarizing yourself with the book in advance of your trip to the Triple D is an excellent way of preparing for your visit. The Triple D Photography Tips, Tricks and Techniques book forms the basis for the educational portion of the workshop.

If you are wondering where to stay in Kalispell, options range from the very affordable Triple D Guest Cabin to one of the hotels that offer discounts for Triple D guests. Situated right on the placid Moho River and surrounded by lush, tropical gardens, it has easy access to stunning waterfalls, Mayan villages where you'll see tortillas being made by hand, ancient ruins, an organic cacao farm, river scenes, and the flora and fauna of the jungle, including Scarlett Macaws, all of which you'll enjoy photographing.

In the process, we'll encourage you to seek your own vision, teach you how elements of composition and the magic of light work in concert to make wonderful photographs.

Because we are headquartered in a small, intimate lodge, we only have room for 10 participants (plus spouses and guests), so it is really important to book your cabana early and make your deposit if you want to join us during this special week. In fact, February was fully booked last year, thus the urgency in making your deposit early!

In the Mayan villages, we'll be invited into people's homes, and with English being the language of Belize, you will have no trouble communicating with these lovely people. You'll see them in their traditional dug-out canoes on the river or their children scampering alongside you as you enter a village.

The Mayan people near the lodge still live as subsistence farmers in small villages of 15–30 families. While it may seem like nothing has changed for hundreds of years, as you observe, you’ll see various outside influences at work, such as the men's clothing, childrens' school uniforms, and the occasional gas stove. The villagers mostly live in board houses with thatched, palm-leaf roofs.

Some families are still cooking tortillas and roasting cacao over traditional mud fireplaces with comals, round, cast-iron griddles. Most families are still making corn tortillas in the traditional manner by hand. You’ll see this, including stacks of dried corn, husking, boiling, grinding, shaping the tortillas, and cooking them in some of the homes that you’ll visit.

photo adventure workshops digital photography Belize people culture Barefoot Contessa Photo workshops © 2006 Joanie Alexander for Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Even if you have visited during any of the other seasons, winter transforms Yellowstone into a true winter paradise.

Because of the altitude of the Yellowstone Basin, winter can be specially challenging and the weather very variable, but this is good news for us photographers. Why? For two reasons; one there are no crowds, that is right, the crowds at Yellowstone in the warmer months are legendary, fortunately for us the park is almost desolate in the winter and sometimes you will feel like we are the only ones in the park; reason number two is that wildlife is most active during harsh weather, because they need to find food in order to stay warm.

However this harsh weather will have also an effect on us, so it is important that you have the right cold weather gear. Not to worry though, we will provide you with a list of recommended equipment and clothing to keep you cozy and comfortable, additionally our vehicles will never be far away, so you can always warm up if needed.

During this workshop we will travel via a privately chartered snowcoach to Old Faithful via Yellowstone Lake where we will then spend two nights in the Old Faithful basin, making images of the geysers, thermal pools and the wildlife that take shelter here in order to take advantage of the warmer temperatures the abundant thermal features provide. We will then travel back up in the privately chartered snowcoach back to the north side of the park via the Geyser Basin. The private snowcoach will give us the control to stop along the way where and when we want, in order to take advantage of the best photographic opportunities.

This workshop will provide great opportunities to make images of Bison, Wolves, Coyotes, Elk, Pronghorn, Big Horn Sheep, Eagles, and some breathtaking winter vistas.

It will be sad but it is all good too! Now I can turn my focus back toward the marketing and the other projects I have running. I had a blast this season working with TCM.

So whats on the books for me, well I need to map out the remainder of the images in the two photo books I want to do. In doing that I hope to map out some of the trips I will be taking in the spring and fall. I alos have to new front end ready to go live and will be moving on that in the coming week.

I am alos taking a long hard look at what I do and developing a more cohesive marketing stance. This may mean that some of the photography I currently do may be moved to the wayside. I would really like to promote the wedding side more and move away from sports, at least that is what I am think at the moment, however that is just first draft thinking. More on it all later. For now enjoy the duck and the thoughts.

Moab is the epicenter of red rock country with its famous arches, balanced rocks and spires in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. If you have never photographed in the Moab area, you owe it to yourself to witness some of the most famous geological formations in the American West. The area is also famous for mountain biking, motorcycling, and offroading. April is arguably the nicest month of the year to be in Moab and we have planned this workshop to take place after all the big offroading festivals that descend upon Moab in the spring. These medium altitude, ~4000 foot (1.2 km) locations will be between 50F (10C) and 80F (27C) degrees during the workshop. Combined with low humidity, we will be quite comfortable. If you’ve never been to this part of the world before, you are in for a surprise. Moab and the surrounding areas have far more then one can possibly experience in a weeks time. Tanzania This workshop will be packed with both field and classroom instruction. We will be in the field early in the morning and early in the evening to catch the dawn and dusk light with classroom time in between. We will have discussion and assistance while out in the field each day. Advanced techniques will be constantly discussed, demonstrated and put into practice. We will all work closely together, sharing our knowledge and experience. During classroom sessions we will focus on photography workflow from capture to print using Adobe Lightroom. Participants will be encouraged to perfect their workflows and incredible detail will be paid to every aspect of importing files, organizing them, keywording, image development and fine are printmaking. This workshop will be a great chance for photographers to fine tune their workflows while making new work. We will all work closely together, sharing our knowledge and observations. Each day will have a critique of the previous days work. This workshop is specifically for photographers who want to learn photography techniques all the way from exposure to image processing and printmaking. Light, composition, equipment choices and subject matter are some of the specific things we will discuss. Everyone will have”exposure” with two instructors with complimentary approaches to photography. All participants will be able to work on their own images and will go home with a print of their favorite image from the workshop. We expect that amauters and seasoned digital imaging professionals alike will benefit from the course. Participants should expect to share some of their images for review, as the goal of this workshop is to enjoy the creative process, learn from each other and to grow as image makers. Tanzania About the instructors Andy Biggs is an avid adventurer, conservationist, teacher, and outdoor photographer whose photography celebrates the African landscape and its rich wildlife, people, and culture. With a deep respect and understanding for African wildlife, Andy unfolds the world of the Serengeti onto our doorstep with striking emotional depth. His photographic safaris allow the traveler to not only enhance their understanding of photography, lighting, and wildlife, but to develop a life-long admiration for Africa’s beauty and culture. Andy’s photographic interests also encompass the landscapes of the American Southwest. Andy makes it a priority to shoot when the light is most dramatic, notably the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. Scott Martin is the owner of Onsight digital imaging, which is a capture-to-print training and consulting business that helps digital imaging professionals optimize their workflows for quality and efficiency. Scott works on location with photographers, pro labs, artists, designers, prepress professionals and software developers perfecting the techniques and color management needed for top notch work. Scott holds the first ever known degree in Digital Photographic Imaging, is an Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert, and serves on the board of the Texas Photographic Society. His grand format fine art prints are shown in galleries and included in many public and private collections. Tanzania Registration The price for the workshop is $995. Transportation, lodging and meals are not included. For a workshop with two great instructors and a small number of participants, we hope you’ll find this to be an excellent value. Use the button below to reserve your space for the workshop. $995 will be charged to your card on April 1st, 2010, at which point it is non-refundable. Well this is it! This photographic safari will be conducted in the east African country of Tanzania, home to the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro. It will combine an exciting photography workshop in one of the world's most outstanding wildlife, landscape and cultural locations together with a luxury vacation in fascinating Tanzania. Tanzania Tanzania, south of Kenya on the African continent's Indian Ocean coastline, lays claim to the title Home of the Safari, since the word itself is taken from the Swahili word that means "journey." While Tanzania's Kenyan neighbors may dispute that claim, there is no doubt that Tanzania offers one of the best environments in the world for an enriching wildlife experience. The country's game viewing opportunities are considered by many to be the best in Africa. Its game parks are populated with many of the world's most exotic creatures, including all of the "Big Five." Its lakes are huge and bountiful with fish. Its cities are relaxed and friendly. Yet, to a greater degree than is true of many of its neighbors, this sprawling county, the largest in East Africa, remains untouched by the vacationing hordes. It's About Photography — Lots of it! This workshop will be very informal and fun. Andy Biggs will be shooting alongside you at all times. We will have discussion and assistance on specialized topics such as, for example, long lens technique, projection flash usage, action shooting, wildlife observation, field craft and east African animal behavior. Advanced techniques will be constantly discussed, demonstrated and put into practice. This workshop is about shooting. Lots of shooting. There will be no classroom sessions, no lectures, no slide shows, and most importantly, no unnecessary egos. We will all work closely together, sharing our knowledge and experience. Because of the unique location of this workshop, and the luxury accommodations, this workshop adventure is open to spouses as well as photographers. Even non-photographers will find the locales visited and the wildlife viewing opportunities to be thrilling. The cost for non-photographers is the same as for active participants.

Luckily for you I have been so busy dealing with the Twin City Miners. They had a great season and things will come to a close on it this weekend. The Junior Varsity Team ( M's team) rounded out an undefeated season with a first round win in the championships. This will bring them to the field this weekend for a chance at first place. Yes I said first place. They will face off against M's old team the Valley Rockets.

Cross your fingers for them and say a prayer, with any luck and some good playing they will end the year undefeated. That's saying a lot for a team that only scored one touch down in the entire regular season last year. M is excited but at the same time he is nervous all at the same time!

On a personal note I have been doing quite a bit of reading of late. In the last few months I have read several good books. Ranging from "FREE" (that's the title not the cost) to Tom Ferriss' "4hr work week." I just completed "The Magic of Thinking Big" by David Schwartz and have started "Power Up Your Brand" by Gabriella Goddard. All of which have been good. The only one I was not terribly satisfied with was the one by Dr. Schwarts. Not that it was a bad read, just didn't hit what I was after. Oh well. I have also been looking at marketing resources and working in the revised web site. I read a great marketing resource - in a FREE book. You should check it out. Click Here for your Copy!

Well I won't bore you, as I have no photo candy to share at the moment. I will soon though!

This insider’s tour takes us to remote and exclusive locations, where Jerry and Julie Courvoisier share their deep knowledge of both Australia and photography. Our journey begins in cosmopolitan Melbourne. We then travel to one of the world’s most dramatic coastlines, the Great Ocean Road, where we have special boat access to photograph the breathtaking rock formations of the Twelve Apostles. We then photograph a working sheep shearing station, picturesque Adelaide, and the famous vineyards of the Adelaide Hills. We take a ferry to Kangaroo Island, one of the world’s last unspoiled refuges, noted for its outstanding natural beauty, rare and diverse plants, and wildlife.

Our next stop on this amazing photography tour is the Flinders Ranges, with its renowned mountain views and gorges. Accompanied by an Aboriginal guide, we learn the creation stories about the ancient serpents that shaped the formation of this ancient colossus. Here we experience the true “Outback,” photographing the landscape and the local characters on which legends are based. Jerry guides our small group of adventurous photographers, providing expert advice on digital capture and workflow; Julie, a native of Australia, enriches our experience with her local knowledge.

Who Should Attend:
Enthusiasts and Advanced Amateurs What You Should Know:
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and your digital SLR camera Tuition & Fees:
Land only; includes shared accommodations for 10 nights (single supplement is $750, if available), ground transportation, and some meals. December is light on my calendar, and to be honest that is my fault. Things have been so busy since the move to the new house that I have not had time to crawl through the provider list I have and add more to the calendar. I am hoping to be able to do so soon. With any luck and a bit of time management I will have more in December by the time of the December update.

Also an interesting side note, read a post from David Jay the other day on his blog, you might want to go check it out; here is the link: http://opensourcephoto.blogspot.com/

Starting in Jackson, Wyoming we spend a week exploring and photographing the breathtaking landscapes and very accessible wildlife (bison, elk, coyote, moose, trumpeter swan, bald eagle) of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

We’ll begin our week with an introductory dessert and soft drink/coffee get-together Sunday evening January 24 at our Jackson Hotel where we’ll cover topics that focus on the type of shooting you’ll be doing during the week. The following day we’ll photograph our way north to Flagg Ranch where we’ll be met by snow coaches to transport us to Old Faithful Lodge. Stopping to photograph along the way, we’ll arrive at the Lodge in plenty of time to check-in and have dinner.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be transported in comfortable snow coaches (twelve-passenger modified vans) with plenty of room for passengers and equipment. We’ll spend each full day photographing Yellowstone – from the Madison River to Yellowstone Falls. And, we’ll set aside one night to light-paint Old Faithful after dinner (you say you’ve never light-painted?). Throughout the week, we will be at your elbow to assist you with photo techniques and/or compositional tips.

Friday morning, we’ll depart the Lodge and head back to Flagg Ranch making a stop or two to snag our last photos of Yellowstone. We’ll shoot the Tetons in the afternoon and spend Friday night, January 29, in Jackson. We’ll do a sunrise shoot on Saturday and the event ends at noon that day.

All transportation, lodging and meals at Yellowstone are included in the cost. The Lodge accommodations are modern, quiet and excellent and the dining room features outstanding menu choices for breakfast and dinner (you have your choice of buffet or menu items at breakfast). Box lunches are furnished for the days we’re out shooting and the Lodge offers several menu choices. Except as noted above, hotel, travel and meals in Jackson are at your expense. Because of limited parking at Flagg Ranch, the GAPW will arrange car pooling.

The weather? In short – wonderful! We often shed outer layers in Yellowstone’s daytime temperatures and sunshine. While we can’t promise great weather, we promise you’ll have fun.

Our limit is 18 participants. Total cost for this event including all expenses mentioned will be $2795. Call GAPW now at (866) 747-4279.

It's a perfect time to experience Arches and Canyonlands in late autumn at this three day workshop led by Bret Edge and acclaimed Colorado photographer Todd Caudle.

During our three days together we'll photograph sunrise and sunset at dramatic locations in Arches and Canyonlands, as well as Dead Horse Point State Park. All participants will receive extensive instruction in the field on composition, photographic techniques, filter use, how to read and use histograms, and more. Image critiques and portfolio reviews during the mid-day hours provide you with valuable feedback.

Join Bret and Todd in Moab for this exciting workshop opportunity!
