ChipSociety - one more poker social network

Social networks are opened almost daily. One of them survive through years while others die or is lefto in agony for some time. Actually I do not know if ChipSociety will stand against its powerful competitors. So far it seems to have only fake members and 0 blogs. Even admin does not write here, so who will be the first? ;)

Quite nice features are not used well. For example CHipSociety has got internal groops by brand fans and events. They can be helpful for lots of members, but when I see 50 members it is obvious, that there is nothiung to do in any of the groups.

How the situation can be changed? Just hard work gathering some members. I would organize a few contests with a possibility to win $50 for best comment, blog and most active week in groups. Some people would take that chance to earn some mone. Others who come in accidentaly will immediately notice, that this poker social network is active and would register.

Also there should be some announcements in social media, asking some most popular bloggers to review the social network (not for free if they get confused about the quality of the site). There are plenty of other actions which can be taken to promote ChipSociety and make it one of the best poker social networks.

Now it looks like it is dying :(

New iPhone game - Poker Invaders

One of the classic games which will never die is probably Space Invaders with its thousands of versions. One of the most popular was Chicken Invaders, but now we have a new one called Poker Invaders. Aliens are the same - angry and thirsty of cow blood, therefore we, humans, need to defend the Earth from ords of landing alien invaders.

The game is for iPhone and hopefully iPad users. Poker invaders is yet to be launched soon, so do not miss it.

The game is produced by a new gaming company Moon Sheperd.

It seems that social games are not going to end. Now the cafe-manager type of social games get more and more interesting scenarios. According to TechCrunch article, No 1. iPhone social game now is Mini Tycoon Casino.

\\the game is just like others - collecting coins over the time. Coins vanishes if overdue. Expanding your enterprice buying new equipement, decoration etc. That looks like popular Zynga's Cafe World or PlayFish Restaurant City games.

Poker application for Android phone

The future belongs to Android OS and devices with this operating system - mainly planchette computers (iPad, Samsung Galaxy etc). The developers of various poker applications perfectly understands that an their primary target is to create a cool and nice poker apps.

One of the most popular Android poker app is Texas Holdem King 3. The grafics are not very sophisticated, but the number of downloads says that it is worth to try.

This application also allows playing against live players rather than AI of the application.

There are some more options in the market. Poker applications for Android are free, but some are already paid. We are at the start of huge business. In next 2 years the world will be filled with Android devices, so these applications may bring lots of users and profit to the creators and developers.

WPT launches Facebook poker application

Here comes the N’th poker application in Facebook. This time WPT decided to grab a piece of multi-million social gaming market by introducing a new poker application simply called WPT Texas Hold’em.

It has nothing to do with former WPT poker room or new owners of the brand – PartyGaming.

So far the app has 175K monthly users and increasing. Anyway Zynga Poker is the biggest and still can share it’s market piece to small challengers like this one.

iPad Poker application launched

The newest tech geek toy iPad has already got its first poker application. It comes together with a handy app called Game Table on April 3rd, 2010.

Poker is just one of the games besides chess and checkers. This iPad application costs $0.99, so it’s really affordable. There is no more details about the game, but it seems quite interesting if players will be able to fold or through away chips with finger touch.

Hopefully it will reveal a new touchscreen experience for poker players.

Zynga launches new poker game – Poker Blitz

The World is not enough for Zynga. 3rd most popular Zynga’s game Zynga Poker now has a little brother – flash game Poker Blitz. This is a fast poker game against the house where player must collect as much money as possible over period of time. Of course the game is full of various achievements to be considered a real social game.

So far Poker Blitz game can be played in Facebook.

According to AppData, Poker Blitz has already reached 750K users this month and will be growing.

SEGA launches own poker site SEGApoker.com

Can it be so bad to one of holy gaming trinity members, that executives decided to dive into online poker world? It seems it can. SEGA just opened it’s own online poker site SEGApoker.com (also casino games site SEGAcasino.com). Present players can login with SEGA Pass or register a new user account.

Guess what platform they use? Not too hard to guess because it is a skin of Playtech (other rooms – TitanPoker, TonyGPoker, Bet365, Hollywood Poker and many others).

When Xbox will start its own poker room following SEGA’s example? No idea. Anyway the famous brand and connectivity using gaming platform’s social application guarantee huge activity. Proved by friendship between Xbox and Facebook connect.

If you have SEGA Pass, please try their poker room as well. It is 3rd biggest real money poker operator in the World.

atPoker – poker news aggregator

We have one more Poker 2.0 tool on the web – poker news social aggregator atpoker.com.

What social news aggregators usually do? They take some trustworthy news feeds and adds some categories, tags to them. Also they works as social bookmarking sites where registered users can submit their own RSS feeds or single articles.

In order to be more social, the user rating system is introduced, so most voted articles go up in the list. atPoker.com seems to be developed like this kind of social tool.

I did not find any widget which could be customized and added to any blog or site, however they have RSS feeds by category available.

I wish very good luck to the creators of this site in fierce competition battle with PokerBlips, RoundersBuzz and PokerUpp (please let me know if there are more competitors in poker social bookmarking market).

Broadway Poker – newest Facebook poker application

The new year brings all poker players (those, who use Facebook, of course) some hope, that poker will never die. Despite of Zynga Poker popularity and 10-100 times bigger size than any competitor, new players arrive to the market.

Recently we have announced about PlayFish’s Poker Rivals arrival. Now there is another player with 1,200 monthly users – Broadway Poker. It has been developed by 2 quite famous social games (Scrabulous) developers brothers Jayant and Rajat Agarwalla. It is still quite empty in comparison even with Poker Rivals or Poker Palace, but it is worth to try.

The design is quite simple and nothing too fancy. Brothers Agarwallas created different games on the launch, not like other Facebook poker applications when they launch Texas Holdem in the beginning and set “Coming soon” for Omaha games, which are getting more and more popular among advanced players.

Beginners has a nice hint in the bottom of the table, so i could call this room quite a good place for the people who are just learning poker before leaving to real money level.

Hopefully this room will become more popular and will be developed to a higher – tournament – level.

PartyPoker launches player staking

PartyPoker launches an unusual feature in their software – player staking. It allows players to stake the other players in the tournaments. It is still in beta, but it can become really huge.

Why are we writing about it here? Well the poker staking is usually a social interaction among the players, because people must trust other players before buying some shares of their buy-ins. Present staking sites are great poker communities (StakeShark.com, ChipMeUp.com, IstakeU.com, Nordicstaking.com etc.)

PokerTime launches a new blog

When I have been doing the investigation of GOOD quality poker blogs by pros I had lots of troubles finding them. The poker room blog situation is better as more and more serious poker rooms do the social media research and start their own professional blog. I am very glad, so are the readers and players, because reading about newest promotion is soooo boring.

Let’s congratulate PokerTime with the launch of new professional Blog called MyPokerTime. The blog writes about various interesting poker issues, including news from sponsored poker pros. Hopefully it will keep that way and will not become like Poker770 blog – the promotion news only.

New Facebook poker application – Poker Rivals

Zynga is the social games company which produces the biggest and huge success social games for biggest social networks. It’s main competitor is PlayFish which always try creating similar games.

Zynga has FarmVille, Playfish has Country Story, Zynga – CaffeWorld, PlayFish – Restaurant City. Zynga has Texas Holdem, so PlayFish just launched new poker application called Poker Rivals.

It is a nice poker room with similar features such as daily chips lottery, achievements, friend invitations and gifts etc. Flash client is much nicer than Zynga's (personal opinion).

As you can see it has some interesting and nicely designed features. Hopefully it will become popular and good competitor to Zynga’s Texas Holdem.

$45 million for shoutbox? That’s insane!

Bwin engineers are updating the software to integrate a first social media feature in the poker software. That will cost $45 million.

The future features are described vaguely – something like shoutbox or instant messenger which should help social interaction and communication among players.

Guys, just invest a couple of million to community building in most popular social media like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace and you will be much ahead of your competitors! :)

UltimateBet changes the name and logo to UB.com

Major poker rooms have and had a short names since years. Full Tillt is called FT; PokerStars – PS, PartyPoker – PP. UltimateBet was always called UB. It became so popular that management of UltimateBet decided to change the name and the logo from UltimateBet to UB.com.

With the new logo they should develop a cool social media presence. Also the URL is so short that can beat any popular URL shortener.

So far ub.com redirects to ultimatebet.com, so all the changes will be in the nearest future. What else social media guru (definitely he is the best among poker players) Joe Sebok can do?

It seems that 888.com with all its gambling empire finally decided to use the advantages of social media and guerrilla marketing and started their profile in Facebook.

Big poker rooms usually have lots of interesting promotions, tournaments, bad bead jackpots and other interesting information which can be posted using any RSS to Facebook application, but 888 seems to have a live person behind the Facebook updates.

Bad poker bloggers – pros who neglected their blogs

This just sucks! I was searching for top level poker pro blogs and had so many troubles collecting the Top 10, because the majority of poker pros have neglected their blogs. That’s a shame, because nowadays having a blog may be a highly beneficial brand-building tool for any person or company. It is actually not that hard to write what are your up to once a week. Even if English is not your native language.

I now present you some poker pro blogs which should not be followed.

Let’s start with the 2 sexiest poker players in the World. Former model and tennis star from Finland was just able to lament “Hello World” (actually this is a standard Wordpress post title). It could be forgiven if it was some amateur blog on Blogger.com, but in this case it is the official Blog of Patrik Antonius at his official webpage which is run by the FullTilt team. Patrik Antonius himself is busy playing poker live and online, but it seems that no one at FullTilt Poker cares either.

Another sexy poker player is the lovely Cindy Violette who had closed her official blog and moved to Facebook and Twitter. I do not understand how are Facebook Notes with almost no editing options better than any Wordpress blog at the official website. Hopefully she will accept my friendship request and I will be able to read what she is up to on Facebook.

Phil Ivey – one of the best poker players in the World – does not have his own blog either. His official page philivey.com only provides some basic information. The non-official blog run by his fans does not provide up to date information about this 21st century poker legend either. Pity, but FullTilt again did not move a finger for their top pro at the web 2.0 realm.

I guess you don't have to be a genius to understand that the majority of FullTilt pros do not have their blogs. Let’s check some of the players from the PokerStars team.

Lovely Vanessa Rousso kept updating her blog only till the end of her WSOP Europe play. And then she stopped. I hope she will continue, as the main page had been under construction for some time now. Her Myspace Blog has not been updated for a long while as well.

Clonie Gowen wrote a blog post with a bit more than just “Hello World”, but that was her first and the last one. Her personal website looks quite good, but who manages it? Clonie is still in the top poker players elite despite her lawsuits and the ups and downs in her personal life. I bet people would like to read what Clonie thinks about poker and the gambling business.

There are much more examples how poker pros start and abandon their blogs instead of spending 15 minutes per week and writing something longer than 140 symbols (they more often tend to use Twiter). Anyway, let’s read and subscribe to what we have best and hope that the pros mentioned above will understand, how important can a blog be for their personality branding. Or at least they would consult Phil Hellmuth who knows about it the most (remember Caesar costume's WSOP entrance? That was the best personality branding act ever!).

Alternative Poker 2.0 Blogs

Poker 2.0 is getting some speed and boost in the internet. In order to spread a word about Poker and web 2.0 technology junction, I have created some other blogs and write a unique content for them. Yes, i do not copy-paste, because it would be bad for reputation, and, of course, for SEO.

One of the most successful unofficial blogs is hosted in one of the best poker blog engines PokerKnave.

Another one is in a blog aggregation service which allows original blog writing - PokerWeblogs.

Short notes with some interesting considerations or any other poker related stuff is run in Posterous (their main competitor Tumblr hates me and bans all the time for poker content. Probably these guys do not play poker and do not imagine how much content poker players can generate).

One more blog is managed in one of poker social networks PokerNations. So far this is the best social network for poker players. Blog features can be improved, but all the rest is brilliant.

Of course I continue writing articles to various article directories about Poker 2.0 (for instance in one of the most popular article directory ArticleDashboard). I will continue in future once I will come up with some ideas about general issues.

The life goes on and Poker 2.0 gets more and more fans. Please follow us in Twitter and become the fan in Facebook page!

Moving Poker 2.0 to OnlinePoker20.com

I wish every blog could have such fate - getting domain and having own design. Yes, I am moving to another domain and will continue from there. As you may noticed my Twitter account @poker_2_0, I have a new professionally made logo (thanks to my designer Toma; she made a great work!) which contains web 2.0 style and colors.

I still have not decided what to do with all my posts, so so far I left them here. From now on all the blogs will be written in another Poker 2.0 version:

All Poker Pros in Twitter

Just got the idea to collect all the poker pros in Twitter. Twitter does not have the requirement and the manner to collect real information about the person, sometimes it can be hard to distinguish the real poker pro from the fan who loves him/her so much that puts on their picture and tweets "on behalf". Some call such fans "squatters", but I would rather consider them as too zealous fans :)

I would need some help from the readers, so if you know some poker pros which are not on the list, please let me know either in comments or privately.
