Scottish Champions Glasgow City had their UEFA Women’s Champions League preparations boosted by sponsorship from Polaroid Eyewear.The City’s First team and staff have been kitted out with £1,500 worth of stylish frames from Polaroid’s sports sunglasses collection, to help their performance both on and off the field.

Talking about the sponsorship, Rebecca Harwood Lincoln, Polaroid UK and Ireland Sales Manager said, “We are delighted to give our support to Glasgow City. As national Champions they have represented their country extremely well in recent years in the Champions League and we wanted to do our best to support them in their campaign this year. We wish the girls every bit of success in the competition and are proud that they will be wearing our brand on their travels.”

My name is David Phillips, manager of Fat Tire Bike Tours – London. I personally own three bikes, but am responsible for more than 103. Reason being, we provide guide bike tours to private groups and visitors to the city of London on comfortable California “beach cruisers” every day through the Royal Parks. The pace isn’t le Tour de France, but we still cover 7 miles per tour (with a nice pub break half-way through). With wind and pollen an obstacle that can ruin my day…sunglasses are just as essential as a flat repair kit and pump. I was give the opportunity to demo a few different types of Polaroid sunglasses over the past two months. My favourite has been the P7024’s (Mountain FX)– which are essentially an “everyday” pair of shades. Rockin’ these guys, I can sprint across town to work (5.5 mile or so commute from Dalston to Queensway), work around the office all day, perhaps even giving a tour…and they don’t ache against the side of my head or nose (which can be a massive problem with sunglasses). They’re  also versatile enough to wear on the beach (I took them out on a surf trip to Newquay in late June 2010) and professional/classic enough to wear greeting a few hundred guests per weekend. I honestly had two “other brand” pairs which were similar in style to P7024’s…but those “others” are collecting dust. It’s the pair from Polaroid that live either in my backpack or on my face. I just recently started to take this sun thing seriously. Working as a make up artist I have to look after my face and skin. But its more about the crows feet slowly creeping down my face!
Usually I just buy cheap trendy glasses that have no UV protection and frankly change the world to a brown hue.

I wanted some real sunglasses and aquired these beautiful Liberty glasses.

My first reaction when I put them on was that none of the colours had changed with the lenses, if anything they enhanced the colours and made them pleasurable to wear. They also look expensive and are perfect for covering the most amount of face possible for a hangover!

Our family have never been sunglass wearers. My mum has never worn sunglasses but she adored the Liberty style. She especially liked the fact that they don’t change the colours you are seeing due to their high UV protection and polarization. She liked them so much she has borrowed them to go on her 3 month trip round Russia! Hopefully I’ll get them back!!

Sean Curran recently undertook a huge challenge – walking the 37 miles stretch known as the Downs Link, starting in Guildford and finishing in Shoreham-by-Sea.

But this 37 mile hike was all in a good cause, raising money for The British Heart Foundation. The team completed the walk in just two days, achieving 20 miles on Day One and 17 miles in Day Two.

“We hadn’t really a target figure in mind but we were pleasantly surprised to raise over £2,350 between us,” said Sean.  

And of course they were helped along their journey by the Mountain FX polarized sunglasses they were wearing from Polaroid’s sports sunglasses collection. “The glasses were extremely comfortable and as it was mainly a sunny two days, they came in extremely handy to reduce the glare from the pathways,” said Sean.

With memorable stories about multiple blisters and generous pub owners who donated to the cause as the weary hikers stopped for a bite to eat, Sean and his colleagues are delighted with their achievement.

Despite a very wet start to Sunday morning’s flagship event in the 2010 Polaroid Eyewear series, almost 1600 runners entered for the four separate running events. All age ranges were covered by the preschool to Primary 3, Senior primary, 5K fun run and 10k races. All races started and finished at Loch Lomond shores, the gateway to the National park, and the 5k and 10k races run through Balloch Country park on the shores of the Loch.

As always the staff of Polaroid Eyewear are strong supporters of the series, either by running or helping on the day.

And so another year of the Polaroid Eyewear Series passes – at 24 years the longest running sports sponsorship in the United Kingdom!

Or you could go the whole hog, so to speak, and head over to Net-A-Porter for a Missoni bikini – tiny but beautiful.
