Business Secretary Peter Mandelson, who is said to be increasingly the public face of Gordon Brown’s government at 10 Downing Street, alleged yesterday that the British newspaper publisher News International Ltd and the Conservative Tories had,

“Effectively formed a contract, over the head, incidentally, of the newspaper’s editor and their readers, in which they are sort of bound to one another.”

Mandelson cites as evidence the onslaught of poor coverage British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has received from News International’s The Sun for the mistakes Brown made in a handwritten letter to a mother of a British soldier that was killed in Afghanistan.

“What The Sun can do for the Conservatives during the election is one part of the contract and, presumably, what the Conservatives can do for News International if they are elected is the other side of the bargain. But there is a wider question. When The Sun creates the news in this way, this is then followed up by Sky News, which then puts pressure on the BBC to follow suit.”

Of course, many people would find the poor media coverage deserved since Brown failed to carefully address the mother of a fallen soldier who died fighting for the country the prime minister leads.

However, some may point to a pattern here of world leaders attacking News Corporation, and the Murdoch family which runs News Corp., for its media coverage of world leaders.

Though Gordon Brown’s government is the latest to attack News Corp. over having received poor media coverage this year, the Obama administration was not the first to do so.

The government that has been the most aggressive in attacking the Murdoch family and News Corp. for some time now has been Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s government.

Berlusconi’s complaints mostly surround the Italian leader’s claim that the London Times, a News Corp. owned daily publication, was stoking the flames of his alleged prostitution and corruption scandals.

The conservative leading Italian leader blames Rupert Murdoch’s desire to take down Berlusconi’s media empire as Murdoch’s motivation.

However, in the cases of all three governments, the facts of the news reports being put out by the News Corp. media outlets have been backed by the evidence.

Brown has admitted and since apologized for writing an outrageously misspelled letter to a fallen soldier, tape recordings of Berlusconi cavorting around with ‘escorts’ are on record, and the Obama administration has connections with ACORN, has admitted socialists within its administration, etc.

Instead of blaming the messenger, the government’s led by Obama, Berlusconi and Brown should root out their own problems within their own administrations and within themselves.

And another note, maybe the Labour party should have waited to see how things played out in the Obama administration vs. Fox News battle in the United States before trying to copy the White House playbook.

Today the White House agreed to an interview between Fox News’ Major Garrett and President Obama after the administration said recently that Fox News would be granted no interviews for the remainder of the year.

Likely not by coincidence, the news of the interview comes one day after White House communications director Anita Dunn resigned.

A good lesson for democratic governments around the world to learn is never attack the messenger cause it will just come back to bite you in the ass.

But what does Gordon Brown have to lose? After all, he’s getting creamed in the polls anyway.

As the graph below shows, registered voters prefer Republican candidates 48% to 44%.

According to the poll, independent registered voters favor the Republican candidate by a large 22 point margin – 52% to 30%.

There was a reason that you had a 40-seat democratic majority and the bill passed by two votes. Moderate Democrats, red state Democrats ran away from this bill like it was the plague.

$1 trillion dollars of new spending, $500 billion in new taxes, $500 billion-dollar cut in Medicaid for seniors, on top of that, the government option — it was a bill written by liberals for liberals, and moderate Democrats ran away from it like it had the swine flu.

When it gets over to the Senate, it’s going to meet the same fate.

LT. COL. RALPH PETERS (RETIRED): I thought the president’s remarks were, you know, he delivered them well. But they were boiler plate, clearly written by speechwriters who never served in the military. But one point particularly got to me – offended me – where he said, first of all, that the act for him was incomprehensible. And then later on he said it was hard to comprehend. Host Bill O’Reilly and Coulter then mock the media’s invented explanation that Hasan commmitted the horrible terrorist act due to post traumatic stress disorder, when in actuality the terrorist not only was never sent to war overseas, but also only counseled those yet to be sent overseas themselves.

O’REILLY: He caught it. You missed that Coulter. He caught it. He caught it because he was talking to people who had it. So it’s contagious. You see, it’s an airborne, it’s an airborne thing now.

O’REILLY: I’m gonna call the guy what he is. He’s a terrorist he’s a Muslim terrorist and he killed people because of Jihad. Now, all the people you saw, Schiefer, Roberts, you know all the rest of them — down down – they won’t do that. Why won’t they do that?

COULTER: Because they’re victims. We have a caste system in America with different levels of victim hood. You have the feminists, gays, blacks, Jews. But the number one victims, but only starting on 9/11 when they killed 3000 Americans, became Muslims. And all we hear about is how a bumper sticker was scraped off of this guy’s car. That’s the first story out of Fort Hood.

COULTER: Well it was pre-traumatic stress disorder since he hadn’t been sent overseas. Yet the first recorded case of pre-traumatic stress.

O’REILLY: He caught it. You missed that Coulter. He caught it. He caught it because he was talking to people who had it. So it’s contagious. You see, it’s an airborne, it’s an airborne thing now.

COULTER: Okay, on they’re pre-traumatic stress syndrome, that’s what everybody kept saying: “oh, he’s talking to people coming home.” I just read in the New York Times yesterday, he wasn’t counseling them when they’re coming home, he was counseling them before they were sent overseas –

O’REILLY: Whatever it was he caught it, it’s contagious now post-traumatic – We’re not diminishing the disease, it is real, but this is so – so much BS.

The Washington Post reports that a couple of the slides in a June 2007 presentation read,

“It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims.”

“Muslims [sic] soldiers should not serve in any capacity that renders them at risk to hurting/killing believers unjustly.”

One classmate of the terrorist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, said that despite objections from some classmates, their superiors let Hasan complete his jihadist presentation.

Later, after finding that Hasan had contacted a radical imam that was known to have had a close relationship with two of the 9/11 hijacker terrorists, an employee of the defense criminal investigative service decided that pursuing further reviews of Hasan was not necessary.

So this jihadist was known to have communicated with a known terrorist radical imam, as well as gave jihadist presentations to his fellow Army psychiatrists, yet out of a fear of not being seen as being politically correct he was allowed to stay in the U.S. Army and kill innocent young men and women that signed up to protect our nation.

How many more terrorists are out there and not being investigated out of this political correctness run amok?
