With Super Tuesday just around the corner, some pet enthusiasts are hitting the campaign trail to encourage voter participation. Dogs, cats, and their owners now have a vehicle to show their party preference thanks to Political Party Pets. This website offers pet-friendly political gear including “Repuppycan” and “Democat” t-shirts, food bowls, buttons and bandanas. Owners can also jump on the bandwagon by purchasing bumper stickers, magnets, lawn signs and other accessories. This organization is working to make politics fun and to give pet owners a way of expressing their political affiliations.

In addition to selling merchandise, Political Party Pets even has a link to the “Pets Choice Presidential Primary”, which invites voters to Bark for Barack, Howl for Hillary, Fetch for Fred or Hiss for Hucakbee.

As we clarified in the comments, the bumper stickers, magnets, buttons, lawn signs and other accessories Darcy mentioned are sold by our friends at My Dog Votes. Those items feature My Dog Votes’ unique Stars-and-Stripes pawprint logo and such catchy slogans as “Help lick voter apathy.”

Let them proclaim their affiliation with the help of My Dog Votes and Political Party Pets, online companies that sell all sorts of clothing and accessories for your campaigning pet companions.

Political Party Pets (politicalpartypets.com) has dog and cat bowls with party symbols for $29.95 and $34.95. The T-shirts for dogs range from $14.95 to $17.95. That site also has a political blog and a place you can vote for candidates. Among the choices: Howl for Hillary, Bark for Barack, Ruff for Rudy, Mew for McCain, Hiss for Huckabee.

2006 was the year of Doggles.

2007 was the year of doggie beer.

Political Party Pets and My Dog Votes have banded together to ensure that 2008 is the year of politically active pets.

Georgia’s presidential primary election is only a few weeks away. If you still haven’t made up your mind on who to support, ask yourself, who would your pet vote for?

Political Party Pets asks people to classify their pets as Repuppycans, Doggie Democrats, Republikittens or Democats and offers bowls, t-shirts and bandannas that proudly display your pet’s political affiliation. Even though the logos are super cute, I can’t imagine paying $10 to $14 dollars for bandannas that my dogs will destroy within days.

My Dog Votes, whose mission is “Saving Dogs and Democracy,” offers postage stamps to “lick voter apathy,” in addition to stickers and pins. If you have friends north of the border, they also have a Canadian campaign.

Although I don’t know the breeds of writer Trisha Klein’s dogs, I’m not quite sure how a dog could destroy a bandana that’s tied around its neck. As for our pricing, remember, you get free shipping on all bandanas and t-shirts at Political Party Pets. Many other websites that sell dog bandanas offer only costly Priority Mail or Express Mail shipping options. So the total “in your hands” cost of our bandanas (and t-shirts) is very competitive.

The article, which described the products we offer and recounted the story behind Political Party Pets, was accompanied by a photo of Ellie and Louie modeling their Doggie Democrat and Repuppycan t-shirts, while I tried to get them to sit still long enough for the paper’s photographer to get a good shot.

We’d link to the story, but the Enterprise doesn’t have a website . . . .

My Dog Votes and Political Party Pets have announced they’ll hit the campaign trail together in a joint marketing effort to promote their lines of politically-related products for pets and their owners during the 2008 election season.

My Dog Votes, the world’s only company with a mission of Saving Dogs and Democracy, and Political Party Pets, maker of unique gifts for politically-minded dogs and cats, share their passion for pets and politics with clothing, accessories, and real campaign gear.

“With the 2008 presidential race in full swing, our goal is to make politics fun and inspire greater voter participation among people who own pets,” said B. Haywood, My Dog Votes founder. “Pet owners are sharing more and more of their lifestyle choices with their animal companions,” observed Political Party Pets owner, Lisa Solomon. “In an election year like this one, political party affiliations play an important role in defining the self-image of many pet owners.” The company’s products provide a creative outlet for pet owners to express their political preferences.

The idea for the two online retailers to share marketing efforts came from Political Party Pets owner Lisa Solomon. Co-marketing makes sense for the two woman-owned small businesses. “We want to build an effective marketing campaign strategy, and at the same time help to engage more Americans in the voting process. We can have a much greater impact working as a team,” noted B. Haywood, owner of My Dog Votes. Both women are working mothers with families and pets.

Political Party Pets’ products allow owners to identify their pets as Repuppycans, Doggie Democrats, Republikittens or Democats, with a full line of dog t-shirts and bandanas, as well as food bowls for both dogs and cats.

The My Dog Votes branded line of patriotic t-shirts, hats, pet collars and leashes, car accessories (magnets, window decals and bumper stickers), greeting cards and even real U.S. postage stamps feature the company’s trademarked Stars and Stripes paw print logo. The company’s online campaign store stocks lawn signs urging citizens to “Vote Dog-Friendly” and “Lick Voter Apathy.”

Both companies’ websites feature political polls and surveys for pet owners. At the Political Party Pets site, pets can even vote in the Pets’ Choice Presidential Primary, which asks site visitors if they Bark for Barack, Howl for Hillary, Ruff for Rudy or Meow for Mitt, among others.

My Dog Votes polls pet owners on their preferences of candidates, asking, “Is Your Candidate Dog-Friendly?” In 2006, My Dog Votes sponsored the first national political survey of over 1,000 pet owners, which tracked political trends among pet owners.

About My Dog Votes
My Dog Votes is a specialty retailer of branded clothing and accessories and the world’s only company with a corporate mission of Saving Dogs and Democracy. The company, known for its trademarked line of “voter inspiration” t-shirts and nonpartisan campaign gear, also runs the My Dog Votes Campaign to Help Lick Voter Apathy, the country’s only national GOTV (Get Out The Vote) campaign for dog owners.

According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association’s 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, pet owners are sharing more and more of their lifestyle choices with their (mainly) furry companions, whether that means feeding Fido only organic food, signing up Spot for spa treatments or dressing Daisy in designer duds. And with the 2008 presidential election race in full swing, political party affiliations are naturally becoming more important to the self-image of many pet owners. Now, a new line of clothing and accessories from Political Party Pets lets pets mirror their owners’ political preferences.

Political Party Pets sells dog t-shirts and bandanas, as well as food bowls for both dogs and cats, that identify the wearer (or eater, as the case may be) as a Repuppycan, Doggie Democrat, Republikitten or Democat. Prices range from $9.95 for an extra-small dog bandana (with free shipping) to $34.95 for a large dishwasher-safe ceramic dog food bowl with a 3.5 cup capacity.

Pets can even vote on the company’s website: a poll asks them if they Bark for Barack, Howl for Hillary, Ruff for Rudy or Meow for Mitt, among others.

Company owner Lisa Solomon says the inspiration for the product designs came one day in September, when she and her husband were discussing a democratic presidential debate with their children, Max, 5 and Zoe, 9. “Max said ‘democats’ instead of ‘democrats,’ recounts Solomon. “‘Repuppycans’ immediately popped into my mind, with ‘Republikittens’ and ‘Doggie Democrats’ not far behind.” Solomon’s three canine companions—Ellie, Louie B(eagle) and Chester Solomon—serve as product models and company spokesdogs.

The products are available at the company’s website at www.PoliticalPartyPets.com. Pets should make sure to ask their owners’ permission before ordering.
