Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic is apparently still alive!

He denies 11 charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, dating back to the Bosnian war.

Certain charges are related to the 1995 massacre of 8,000 people at Srebrenica.

Karadzic, who is defending himself, was arrested in Serbia and brought to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia last year, after more than a decade in hiding.

Just when the world had forgotten about this nasty little man he's back in the news claiming his defence team aren't ready to defend him in court. Well to be fair to them it can't be easy to come up with a defence for a monster like him.

I see that Jesus has been spotted on or in a toilet door in Glasgow.

Why would jesus appear in IKEA and why in a toilet door? But then again our lord does work in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform.

But then again does Jesus look like this? There are no photos of him and its been 2000 years since we saw him last. Times change and so do hairstyles.

Besides its clearly the image of Osama Bin Laden.

I see the loonies are at it again.

This time they are trying to stop another looney from speaking on the BBC.

Some loonies want to stop British National Party leader (and looney) Nick Griffin from appearing on Question Time and have lodged appeals with the BBC's governing body to prevent his appearance.

Earlier this week Nick Griffin called for two British Generals to be hung as war-criminals for their actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, though Nick only called for them to be hanged after they criticised efforts by political parties like the BNP to hijack military heroes and pride for their own political purposes.

Also appearing on the show are Justice Secretary Jack Straw, shadow community co-hesion minister Baroness Warsi, Lib Dem home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne and black writer Bonnie Greer; though no-one has tried to shut them up.

The move to ban looney Nick Griffin from the programme began after an academic warned Mr Griffin's appearance could boost support for the BNP as happened when French far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen made his prime-time TV debut in the 1980s.

Well, in this blogger's opinion you have to have Nick on because 940,000 people voted for his party, because he has a right to be heard and his appearance gives the others participants the opportunity to hold this looney up to public scrutiny so we can all see how ridiculous and horrible he and his followers really are.

Good news!

The Greens have succeeded in renegotiating the Programme for Government and among some of the hidden delights of the new programme is a €175 water tax on every home in the country.

Just what we need in a recession, another tax, but wait it seems this isn't a tax because according to a government source "It's not a new tax. It's a charge for a service,"

So its a case of "Read my lips, no new taxes! (just lots of new service charges)".

David Fallon a Labour Party candidate for Westport Town Council, has condemned as hugely wasteful the €1.2 million which Westport Town Council spent on the controversial second bridge over the Railway Line Walk in Cloonmonad.

Calling the development, "a bridge to nowhere" David Fallon says the construction of the bridge marked "a high point of hubris for the councillors and officials who backed the plan which saw €1.2 million of ratepayers money spent on the bridge and road that goes nowhere and serves no purpose.

"I am appalled that such an amount of public money could be spent on a project which had no guaranteed return for the council in the short to medium term. This project should never have gone ahead without a proper safety net for the council's finances.

"The 7 councillors who backed it played roulette with the town's finances and have lost and now the town is out of pocket to the tune of €1.2 million.

"This bridge was supposed to be about housing but what it really was about was keeping the housing boom going in Westport. It was built by the council with the single purpose of opening up lands to development and the cost was met by the council, who were supposed to re-coup the money in development levies as the area was developed.

"Well there has been no development and there have been no levies and there won't be for years to come, meanwhile Westport Town Council and the citizens it serves are €1.2 million out of pocket as we enter the worst recession in our history. But there will be no complaints from the 7 councillors who backed the project nor from the Chamber of Commerce who lobbied strongly for it.

"So it is important to note, especially when one hears Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein councillors and candidates go on about rates and waste, to remember that only Cllr Keith Martin from The Labour Party and Independent Cllr Martin Keane opposed this bridge from the start and voted against its development.

"At the time Cllr Keith Martin and Cllr Martin Keane, along with Westport Civic Trust were lambasted as being against development and housing by their 7 colleagues on the council but in the end they have been proved correct and it stands to their credit that they never wavered in the their opposition to this unnecessary bridge to nowhere.

"Now we are left with a bridge that goes nowhere and that section of the Railway Line Walk has been left in a disgraceful state. When elected to Westport Town Council I will work with Cllr Keith Martin and Cllr Martin Keane to ensure this kind of development never takes place again and I pledge to develop the area between the two bridges as a park which unlike the bridge will serve a purpose and will serve all the people of the town!"

Sod off as sod returned to Minister

Sod Off! as Minister sent sod by registered mail

Labour's Cllr Keith Martin has told the Minister for Education Batt O'Keffee TD "to keep his sod until he presents the pupils of Westport's Gaelscoil na Cruaiche with a contract for their new school."

Cllr Martin has taken the unusual step of posting the actual sod turned by Batt O'Keeffe at the school's site last week to the Minister's office in Dublin with a letter asking him to return the sod only when he has secured a contract for the building work.

"It is most unusual that a sod turning ceremony should take place without a contact being in place to begin the building. I think the sod turning by the Minister has more to do with the upcoming local elections than with the provision of a school building.

"The problem is that this school was given the go-ahead in 2006 and the question is why are the pupils and their parents still waiting for their much promised building and why was it only Fianna Fail councillors and the Cathaoirleach who were invited to the ceremony and not all nine members of the council?"

"You only have to look to Davitt College in Castlebar who have had so many false starts to their sports hall to see where this kind of empty gesture gets you. No sod should be turned until a contract is in place. Anything else is just for show.

"I have been involved in the campaign for a new school building since my election in 2004, I attended every rally and protest for the school here in Westport and I met with the parents and management when they presented the petition to the council looking for a site and at that meeting promised them my full support.

"As Chairman of the Pairc na Coille residents association and as the only councillor on the Golf Course Road I facilitated the proposal to find a site on the Golf Course Road for the school and as a councillor I voted to sell the site to the Dept of Education for the school when Westport Town Council granted full planning permission for the site.

"I have also made numerous representations on behalf of the school and the Parliamentary Labour party, have at my request, asked several Parliamentary Questions on the issue.

"I welcome the news that the school is once again back on the agenda after three years of no action what-so-ever but the school has been waiting 14 years for a new building and I think it is just a joke that Minister can swing into my area and turn a sod for a building without a contractor being appointed.

"I only hope that there will be real action on the school but in the meantime the Minister can keep his sod until he delivers a contract. Then he can have his ceremony and I hope everyone will be invited this time!"

The emperor has no clothes!

That's the cry as micandidate.eu launches itself onto the web with a wet thump.

For all the hype and fawning publicity from mainstream media which is often in awe and fear at Web 2.0 micandidate.eu has turned out to be little more than a grouping together of other applications in one place.

Everything on micandidate, for which one has to stump up €300 plus €30 a month to avail of all the tools, is available free elsewhere and any blogger can knock up their own site with all the tools for free as I have done here on www.thingscanonlygetbetter.ie and www.councillorkeithmartin.com

There is no great mystery about online donations through Paypal, Twittering, Blogging, Mass Emails, media emails, photo slideshows or Youtube videos.

Planet Gormley is a very strange place.

On Planet Gormley Fine Gael and Labour are wrong to have rebuffed recent Green approaches about a possible renewed Rainbow Coalition.

On Planet Gormley if Fine Gael and Labour keep going on the way they are, they may not have a country to take over at all.

On Planet Gormley the oppostion are responsible for the economy.
