“Next week, Yesh Atid will submit a bill on the dissolution of the Knesset for consideration at the plenary session. Everything that the [current ruling] coalition has brought to the people of Israel is pain, catastrophes, tragedies and crises,” he said, speaking at a meeting of the parliament.

According to Lapid, a “coalition of hope” should come to power in the country, which will “heal the wounds” of Israel.

His statement came amid a sharp escalation of contradictions within the ruling coalition due to disputes over the issue of conscription of Orthodox Jews into the army. Ultra-religious parties have threatened to leave the government due to dissatisfaction with the fact that a bill that would provide yeshiva (religious schools) students with exemption from military service has not yet been approved by Parliament, contrary to the promises of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Earlier, The Jerusalem Post reported that a number of influential Orthodox rabbis are ready to urge their associates to leave the coalition. We are talking about Ashkenazi Orthodox parties that are members of the Yahadut ha-Torah parliamentary bloc, together they have 7 deputy mandates in the 120-seat Knesset.

According to the newspaper’s sources, if they decide to leave the coalition, they may be followed by members of the Sephardic Orthodox Shas party, which has 11 mandates.

The current Israeli government, led by Netanyahu, was formed at the end of 2022 following the parliamentary elections in November of the same year. The coalition was created around the right-wing Likud party, which is led by Netanyahu. It won 32 of the 120 seats in the Knesset and formed the largest faction, and Netanyahu, as its leader, received a mandate from President Yitzhak Herzog to form a government.

The Cabinet also includes far-right and ultra-orthodox political forces. In total, the coalition now controls 67 of the 120 seats in the Knesset. If Orthodox factions withdraw from it, it will lose its parliamentary majority, which in itself may lead to the dissolution of parliament and the calling of new elections.

“The EC proposes to extend the temporary protection measures for another year, until March 4, 2027,” the commission’s press service said in a statement.

In addition, it is proposed to develop a strategy for the period after the termination of these measures, which so far allow residents of Ukraine to receive asylum automatically.

“The EC invites member states to prepare in a coordinated manner for the transition period regarding the termination of temporary protection measures by developing recommendations from the EU Council,” the document says.

These measures should meet the interests of Ukrainian citizens living in the EU, as well as take into account the needs of the country’s reconstruction. In particular, the EU can support the voluntary departure of refugees from there and their reintegration in their homeland.

According to the EC, there are currently about 4.3 million Ukrainian refugees in the EU, they enjoy the status of temporary protection. The EC’s proposal has yet to be approved by the EU Council.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, suggested that EU countries think about the future of Ukrainian refugees, taking into account the limited European resources, as well as Ukraine’s own needs for human resources.

The Grevin Museum on Montmartre Hill in Paris was founded in 1882 following the example of the British Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. There are about 450 characters in his collection, mostly reflecting the history and culture of France.
