This is probably my most favorite topic and I have wracked my brain many times trying to find something good to say about politics and how inequitable it is for the ordinary man but nothing seems to move and no one seems affected by what I write here. This is not a problem for me. I realize so many things from having done this many times. This stays as a personal journal and about the only person who could be reading this is me and of course, the robots that patrol the information superhighway.

I have come back to Cagayan de Oro and that in itself is a wonderful thing. I have done a bit of planting and dabbled in experiments involving plants and how they grow and what they need. Some very important discoveries I have found and it could portend something beneficial but then again, it could just go the way of all things thought to be great and wonderful.

Some of the best discoveries in my life happened here in Cagayan de Oro City and I am glad it is that way.

People are stupid

I have come to the conclusion that people are stupid and the biggest fools are the so-called leaders. Take for instance the government of the Philippines. These people have no shame and even when they are caught in corruption and lies they still perpetuate the fiction of being honorable people. Corruption is only going to bring down the very country that they so passionately say they love. And the are killing the country slowly.

This is the Philippines. Beautiful. Lush. Stupid.

I do not want to do this but it seems to me that all I hear about politics and politicians are things we would want left in the toilet after we do our morning rituals. Forgive me but everyone (politicians of all colors) has really dealt me what little hope I had of ever considering that anyone would do something good for the great majority of people. Barack Obama has fallen flat on his face and has shown himself to be a good talker with little or no substance.

Where have all the good leaders gone? I am sure that they have fallen in the sh*thole. Is there any hope at all for us?

Anyway, here's Cagayan de Oro City with another one: Cagayan de Oro City. My Cebu City site has made pr1, surprise, surprise. Dumaguete is still in the boondocks as far as Google goes but Dumaguete has made some headway.

Power. Everyone wants power. Give a man a little education and he is going to exploit his neighbor. Give him a gun and make him a policeman and he is going to get money from the drug dealers and the gambling lords while oppressing the small people. This business of power. Power corrupts they say. We are so easily corrupted. We crave to be corrupted. Do they not learn from history? Do they still keep on doing what they do? No one has power forever. The power of their loins will disappear with every woman that they do their business with.

Money? Does money have the capacity to stay still? Will it not leave you never to return? They crave for power the way that moths make for the flame.

Conspiracy Theories

I wonder why it is that conspiracy theories abound in modern society. I wonder why so many people find it easy to believe that the government or some other powerful organization is capable of doing things that the law cannot touch, as though the law is only to curb the masses and don't apply at all to the rich and powerful. This is a big contradiction to the very core of democracy which states that power emanates from the people. The government is supposed to be the guardian of the law and yet people are wary of the government and consider it to be a dangerous force not to be trifled with. In simpler times, people had no illusions about those in power and never dared to stick their noses in politics.

The sad fact regarding democracy is that people are considered supreme only during elections only to be trampled upon once the politician comes into power. This is a confusing affair and my simple brain cannot compute these data properly. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy has never been satisfactorily explained even though the U.S. Government has decreed that a lone gunman did it. Someone somewhere knows the truth and believers in conspiracy theories believe the truth is still out there.

There will always be kings

The world needs order. The world needs to be organized. If the world were without social order, someone is sure to come along and line everybody up according to some criterion or other. There are those who enjoy the world as it is and there are those who cannot sit still if something is not properly ordered. This is part of the order of the universe, to have those who will keep everything ordered. Kings are an inevitability. If they did not create themselves, then other people would create them.

I guess we all crave order. We must have kings. We must have somebody telling us what to do and when that somebody we ordain as king becomes oppressive as he often will, then we rise up and kill him and his family and plunge our world into chaos and disorder. Such is the way of the world. The great pine forests of the temperate zones need fire for the old trees to give way to young stock. This is why they are as matchsticks, easy to ignite with lightning.

Ching's World does not seek to create order. That is the job of kings and politicians of ministers and armies. Ching's World is just that, a world where Ching lives, where everyone has a right to live free.

Will there be a World Government?

Ever since tribes were formed and tribal feelings were engendered in the hearts of men, battles and skirmishes have been fought to increase one tribe's territory and possessions which might include captured tribesmen forced to serve and perform slave labor, not to speak of raping and debasing women. This is not isolated to one or just a few parts of the globe or even to olden times as we can easily find graphic examples today. We find this even itoday. Ethnic cleansing as it was practiced in the Bosnian War was not really a new concept. A new term perhaps but not a new concept. What made it more appalling was due to the wide and open coverage by the press and television showing the brutality and gruesomeness of the atrocities committed during that war.

Various ways have been developed to avoid the annihilation of a conquered race or people or tribe. A very effective technique involved giving up the daughter of the king to become the bride of the conqueror. While this is a little better than just simply allowing the women to be taken force, a fact that becomes inevitable when the men fight to the death thus leaving their women defenseless, it nevertheles results in the same thing: the assimilation by subjugation of the conquered people into the mainstream conquering hordes. The Chinese turned the tables on the marauding horsemen of Genghiz Khan by embracing the barbarian hordes and giving them wives and introducing them to the decadent pleasures of a vastly advanced civilization.

Wherever we look and whatever time or era we turn our attention on, this recurring theme can be discerned: people want to be dominant over as much real estate and over as many people as they could. When the Japanese military machine lost the Second World War , the Japanese transformed their army into an economic Juggernaut that has overrun much of the world. Even the mighty Hollywood movie empires are now owned by Sony. Godzilla has even invaded the big screen of the Good Ol' United States.

When the October war of 1973 proved to the Arabs that Israel could not be destroyed militarily, they embarked on a different kind of war which involved using their unmatched surplus funds from oil revenues to buy up as much businesses in the United States and much of Europe and the rest of the world. Banks and real estate were a prime targets for this enterprise.

These days, the landscape has changed a little bit and the greatest area where conquest can be made is in technology, more specifically, information technology. More and more, businesses and governments have become vastly dependent on information technology to maintain their smooth functioning. Battles and wars are being waged right now on who would emerge as the conqueror of the Internet. This is no different from the other wars and battles that were fought before. The aim is the same.

Is it conveivable that a World Government can emerge from all of these wars and battles? The United Nations is not a likely candidate as it has lost much of its credibility owing to the many financial scandals that have emerged in recent years. Besides, the UN is easily manipulated and duped as shown by the Bush Administration's discredited reason for invading Iraq which was hinged on the search for weapons of mass destruction. Poor Saddam Hussein, having lived by the sword, has to live today with a sword above his head as he battles to preserve his life and past glory.

War on terror: geopolitical hegemony

The war on terror, as it has been dubbed by the Bush Administration, is no small matter of a few men bent on sowing terror in the heart of America. It is a much more sinister plot to over-run and install a brand of Islam which is brutal and un-Islamic in nas many countries all over the globe. Waving the banner of Holy War, or Jihad, these unholy warriors wreak havoc not only on their enemies but also on their hapless supporters. Brainwashing new recruits, impressionable, hopeless young boys and girls into becoming carriers of suffering and human misery, the masterminds of destruction lure their victims with promises of money for their families as well as a special place for them in a fool's paradise, into performing the ultimate of foolish self-sacrifices.

Al-Qaeda has managed to wage a small propaganda success with their successful sorties into the various parts of the world targetting especially U.S. Warships like the Cole and the personnel apartment complex in Saudi Arabia as well as the U.S. Embassy in Kenya. Brutal attacks successfully carried out in Bali, Indonesia and Manila, Philippines has emboldened these terroristic bands into more daring attacks culminating in the big blow to American security in the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center Building in New York.

This was a daring, calculated move on their part and this has backfired immensely as it galvanized the Americal will to fight, and made patriots of simple citizens. The American debacle has resulted in a vicious retaliation which ousted the Taliban and Al-Qaeda from their Afghanistan base of operations. Next to fall was Saddam Hussein of Iraq who unsuccessfully waged a hopeless campaign to convince the United Nations to stop the United States from invading his country.

Although there was a bit of failure on the part of America to contain a burgeoning guerilla war from becoming a full-scale civil war in Iraq following its successful invasion and occupation, a measure of success was attained by American might with the targetting and death or Al-Zarqawi, the chief Al-Qaeda terror mastermind in Iraq. This was a lucky break for the Bush administration who has increasingly taken flak for a botched job in Iraq. Die-hard Bush apologists were being effectively silenced by their deafeaning lack of success in Irag on the months prior to the killing of Al-ZarQawi.

The conflict is far from over. Even though Al-Qaeda seems to be on the defensive in many parts of the globe, it is not yet to be counted out. Australian authoties managed a coup when it rounded up a number of suspects who belonged to Australian terrorist cells. The capture and trial of the bombing suspects and mastermind in Indonesia has also caused this terrorist franchise to fall silent in that part of the globe. The killing of Indonesian bombing import Fathur has also crippled the Abu Sayyaf terror organization in the Philippines; the bloody outcome of a failed prison revolt by terrorist prisoners which resulted in the deaths of the chief henchmen of this terror cell has further placed a damper on this wildy exuberant and deadly organization.

Democracy marches forward

The march of Democracy in the Philippines echoes the growth of popular rule in many parts of the world. From careful observation, one can trace the twists and turns that democracy has taken and today its latest metamorphosis can be termed 'rule of the people by manippulating the electoral process'. It can be remembered that after the Second World War elections in the Philippines were fraught with violence and intimidation. These were the times of the Political Warlords who succeeded in gaining the ballot by killing their rivals and the leaders of their rivals. Who had the most guns and goons would have the upper hand in coercing the vote from a hapless public. In many parts of the country this is still practiced but this has been tamed and elections nowadays are relatively bloodless.

The next phase was a little more benign. The ballot was no longer being stolen by the gun but greases with money.Vote-buying became the fad and winning an election became largely a matter of who could lay out the biggest budget per voter. Elections became very well-organized with buzzwords like, 'election machinery', 'coordinators' and 'ward leaders' being thrown back and forth to signify the campaign to win the vote. Needless to say, the politician who had the most money would inevitably win but upsets are not unheard of.

The succeeding stage showed great sophistication and ingenuity. When it became expensive and unpredictable to win an election simply by vote-buying, politicians resorted to 'vote-padding' or stuffing the ballot boxes with ballots already filled up by their campaign leaders.. This tactic would favor the incumbent politician or the one who could gain the loyalty of the people who were guarding the ballot boxes.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Church

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo makes a big deal out of being Pious and asking for God's guidance when facing the big decisions of her career, pretty much like President George W. Bush. President Cory C. Aquino also was very much identified with the Church and Jaime Cardinal Sin, a powerful force in Philippine Politics. In times past kings and rulers arrogated unto themselves the very lineage of divinity. They were descended from God and therefore, supreme on earth. The Pope also claims pretty big credentials with God which is not surprising since he is God's chief priest on Earth. Priests are human beings after all and many fall prey to the weakness of preying on their parishioners.

A friend of mine asked me what I thought of the current crisis in the Catholic Church regarding sexual abuses by priests and even bishops. I asked him what he thought and he answered Satan is vigorously waging his fight against the church and that priests are not totally immune from his persuasive powers. I suggested to him that perhaps the Catholic Church is reaping its just rewards, being exposed for its sins and transgressions and spiritual and temporal arrogance. I cited the many people killed in the Inquisition and how the frailes in the Philippines fathered countless children while pontificating on piety and faith, chastity and obedience.

It is not Satan assailing the Church. It is Power rearing its ugly head and corrupting whoever wields it. JRR Tolkien had a better understanding of power when he designated Frodo who was the weakest of the Fellowship of the Ring to be the chief protagonist and Ring Bearer. His innocence and purity of heart was just what was needed to triumph over Evil which is not just an external force but a reality that also exists in all beings.

Who can resist God? George W. Bush is not a talented administrator or a briliant thinker, strategist or tactician. He has been a failure as a businessman. His biggest success that earned him the presidency of the United States was being the son of an American President, and who also happened to be the Governor of a great state. That he seemed to be malleable, likeable, easy-going, a party animal in college ljas ed his kingmakers to believe that he would be a shoo-in to follow the party line. What they did not count on was that he was his own man and, he talks to God; a powerful combination. On his own, he pretty much blundered his life away. However, with the help of powerful backers, he has stood on top of the world like Alexander, or Napoleon, a conqueror and adventurist.

Many believed that Dick Cheney was the real power in the Bush administration but he has emerged as an apologist for the president and recent events has made him a potential embarrassment to the White House having shot someone in the face. Everyone can see that the Bush administration is in trouble. What has God been saying to him?

America....Missionary for Democracy

Every great religion owed its growth to the patronage of great kings. Buddhism made great inroads into the population of India and neighboring countries when King Ashok embraced it as the official religion. Through his influence the doctrines and practice of the Gautama Buddha rapidly replaced the spiritual practice of Indians who were predominantly Hindus. Nepal and Tibet as well as neighboring China quickly followed suit and invited missionaries to teach the new doctrines. Christianity gained many converts when King Constantine became a Christian at the behest of his mother who was first to convert and Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire supplanting other religions and beliefs within the kingdom. The great Christian push for colonies were carried out by the mighty armies of the Holy Roman Empire.

Islam was also spread by the sword and great victories in many battles by the armies of Mohammed swept away the primitive religions of the desert. Islam has always been and continues to be a missionary religion and in its present-day incarnation is carried out more violently by Fundamentalist Islamists invoking the favorite doctrine of warlike missionaries of different persuasions both Christian and Muslim namely, Holy War or Jihad.as it is known in Islam.

America also had its share of missionary zeal for the Christian faith. In the past her armies largely accompanied or followed soon after the forays into the heathen lands by Christian missionaries which established themselves in many parts of the world. These days America is preoccupied with trade and has become a fierce proponent of Democracy. In earlier doctrines America has quietly tolerated and often actively abetted the rise and rule of military Dictatorships if that meant enough peace to enable the Multinationals to operate and flouorish. After the dictatorships became distastefully oppressive to its people and after waves and waves of clashes between government troops and the masses, America was forced to change its doctrine and distance herself from her erstwhile allies and comrades. That these dictatorships were perversely proclaimed as Democratic was an expression of arrogance by those in power.

The Greeks invented Democracy, the Romans refined it

Democracy is a great invention. The Greek Philosophers and scientists had a great thing going with Mathematics, Physics, Philosophy. Geometry and Metaphysics. Music Theory was invented by Pythagoras who saw a correlation between numbers and tones leading to much exploration in Tonalities and Acoustics. Ancient Greek musical instruments include the lyre and the flute which were the forerunners of modern-day stringed and wind instruments respectively. Spiritual thought as practiced then was not really sophisticated compared to India which was more advanced than the Greeks. Their idea of religion consisted of fanciful beings which were more human-like in temperament and actuations than godlike. The Arts and Literature also flourished as with Architecture, Medicine and the practical application of science to war-making pursuits. It could therefore not be helped that these brilliant minds interacting with other brilliant minds would turn their attention to the question of Ruling and Rulers. Of course, at the time it was really the warriors and the kings that held power in Greece and although there was general freedom and people had rights, slavery was also found there.

The idea that the People shouild rule instead of the Warriors and kings was very bold and innovative thinking. It was also difficult to implement in actual practice. This ideal was also slanted in favor of some enlightened, wise ruler who would be much more agreeable than physically-powerful monarchs with less-developed consciences.

The Romans implemented Democracy and refined it in a comprehensive set of laws with which to govern. They instituted the Cursus Honorum which dictates the various steps which a man has to take before he could ascend to the top. This would serve as a training ground for would-be rulers The top position was not a solo gig as in today's democracy but a three-way affair with three men sharing power. This was to avoid a dictatorship. Armies were not allowed to enter Rome in order to prevent the slide into Monarchic rule. Julius Caesar broke this rule when he crossed the Rubicon and established himself as supreme ruler. Although Rome eventually degenerated to Imperial Rule, it did observe an advanced system of Rights which citizens could have compared to other empires and kingdoms. The main power was the senate which could select ruling consuls. This senate was composed of aristocrats so the Roman republic was in reality an Aristocracy instead of real Democracy.

From spiritual thought, scriptures and metaphysical sciences we learn that all men are created equal. This is certainly how I would want to be: equal to everyone else. All would be fine if everyone has the same amount of gray matter, ambition and energy as the next person. However, man being of the stuff of the universe, is not really as homogeneous or orderly as grains of sand appear to be when one takes a walk on the seaside. Man is as diverse a creature as you can find anywhere in the galaxy.

If some electronic equipment were to be invented to tap the different vibrations and electro-magnetic impulses emanating from the different portions of a man's being and were the output to be fed to a stereo speaker we probably will hear a cacophony of dissonant tones battling and wrestling with each other for supremacy and precedence. This, from one man alone. Ha ha ha. What if a few people were each to be strapped to one of these contraptions and be allowed to blare the sonic representations of their beings from individual speakers, would there be a chorus? or Chaos?

When trying to impose one's supremacy over his so-called peers it is always good to have God on one's side. This valuable trick, probably invented by a clever ape to exploit an ever exploding mass of lesser apes (too many perhaps to be controlled by mere physical intimidation alone) has worked for thousands of years and is still being invoked today. Not surprisinlgly, it is still being bought now and swallowed hook line and sinker as it was when it was first invented
