It's Snowing

It snowed a lot over the past weekend here in Norman, Oklahoma. Im from Texas and although it lies just South of the border, it snowed up a blizzard these past few days. Enduring through this arctic blast being as ill-prepared as I was allowed me to realize a lot about snow survival.

First of all chances are your car is going to transform itself into a quarentine-like state. Quarentine meaning every door is sealed shut by the death grip of ice. Additionally, all windows will be blanketed layer upon layer with ice topped off with a few inches (depending on your region of the country) of fluffy white powder. To disengage the ice from clamping the doors shut, you need to break up the ice and peal it away either by hand or with a skinny utensil. Once you've completed this, the next step is to get inside the car, turn it on, and allow the defrosting period to take place. As your car warms up get any standard ice scraper and begin forceibly rubbing off the ice on the windshield, finishing up by the trunk window. Once those few tasks have been handeled, drive slow.

Your main goal for a freezing cold week: stay warm. Nothing is worse than being "out in the cold" so make sure you stay warm like you're hydrating through a summers day.

College Time Management

In any kind of environment it can be a difficulty to manage the abstract concept of time. Time is hard to manage because it's always moving, so in order to make your day the most productive possible I reccomend some simple steps to make your day stacked.

1) Make a "To Do" List

It's too easy to get wrapped up in something miniscule for an hour or more, so to ensure that does not happen make a list of what's most important. If you wake up, brainstorm in bed about your days priorities, and just "go with it" chances are things wont get done effiecently.

2) Use Spare Minutes Wisely

Trust me one this when I say the that littlest things in life end up being the most important. If your class doesn't start until 9:30 and you're ready by 8:45... read or study. It may seem easier to or even more "productive" to hop onto facebook and aimlessly click around for 20 minutes, but it's not. Stimulate your mind.

3) It's Okay to Say "No"

Sometimes the hardest thing is to say no to somebody, especially if it's the end of the day and you have nothing left of your plate. But overdoing yourself is no bueno. If it's a Thursday night, there's a party, yet you have a test Friday morning: Do not go to the party. Temptation is your greatest enemy.

4) Reread Your Notes Everyday

Reinforce what you've studied or writeen down, which will prepare you for any pop quizzes or just give you less study time for later.

5) Get a Good Night Sleep

Running on empty makes the days seem longer, and causes your attention span to decrease significantly.

I've compiled a list of things every up-scale dorm room should have in it, here you go:

1) Futon

A futon is essential to the dorm room for many reasons. For one you can avoid a long-winded climb to the bunk by collapsing onto the futon. The futon offers a "neutral zone" for guests to sit on so that they do not feel like an invasion of privacy. The futon is essential.

2) Command Strips

Nobody feels like getting slapped with a $200 fine for damaging dorm walls with nails, so be smart and use command strips to hang up anything from posters to life size mirrors.

3) Poster/Poster Artwork

It is a known fact that dorm walls, if left bare, can make your room resemble a mental asylum. Bring life to your dorm room by hanging up posters of your favorite celebrities or express yourself with a cheap piece of modern artwork.

4) Refrigerator

You will wake up in the middle of the night with a throat drier than the sahara. You will have guests over that would like something to drink. You will be too lazy to run to the campus market while working on a paper. Get a refrigerator.

5) Stereo System

For music. Nuff' said.

Spring is Near

To all inhabitants residing in the United States of America it's obvious from all four corners of the continent... it is cold.

Now this isn't so much a problem for white collars who are shuttled to work in their heated leather seats, or stay-at-home mothers that "work" around their cozy household throughout the cold day.

No. It is the collegiates who scurry their stiff bodies from one edge of campus to the next, freezing their heads off all while trying to get an education. No material benefits for walking through a blistering Oklahoma wind storm on the daily. It's all for the sake of an education.
