6.55 Polzeath: The good news is that for the moment the wind has eased a little and so it is possible you could catch a couple this morning, but the tide will be high at 8.45 so best to get in early. Then the day goes a bit weird as we are going to be slap bang in the middle of a low pressure system the wind is going to go around the clock, it could even be offshore for a while around the middle of the day. Then as the depression sweeps up the Bristol Channel the wind will settle and strengthen from the North West. Expect heaps of rain and a dropping temperature, but you may get some waves if you don’t mind the adverse conditions. The rest of the week is not going to be quite so radical with the wind blowing more cross and even offshore we may get some good sessions. Low tide will be a nearly 3.00 this afternoon. I'll update tomorrow on the prospects for the end of the week and the weekend. 6.35 Polzeath: Looks a bit grim this morning with the wind still blowing onshore and the atmosphere is somewhat damp. The waves are chopped up and tightly packed together, so not really that inviting, so you may want to look for shelter. The good news is that although tomorrow the weather is going to be a bit radical with very heavy rain we should be moving into a better weather pattern of lighter Northerly winds by the end of the week. For today high tides will be at about 8.00 this morning and 8.15 this evening with low water at 2.15. While you are out and about today come and see us in the unit and talk about your new board for the summer, we’ve got a huge range to of surfboards all made here in Rock with polyester tints and epoxy resin laminates, on boards of all sizes ranging from 5-4 to 10’6”. 8.45 am Polzeath: Still not much to shout about this morning but at least the wind has moderated enough to make surfing ‘Zeath a possibility, it won’t be brilliant though as the waves are pretty chopped up and slack. The forecast is for the wind to strengthen a little today and swing a touch more Southerly towards low tide at 1.30 high water will be again this evening at 7.45. There will be waves to be had at any sheltered beaches such as Harlyn , Newquay St ives. 8.00 am Polzeath: Totally horrible this morning, strong onshore wind and rain greeted me as I struggled to stand up and take a picture. There is going to be little change in wind strength or direction today, but the rain may ease off later. So best to head for shelter if you want to find a good clean ride, look to Harlyn or Town Beaches of Newquay. I will be in the unit all morning from 9.30 until around 12.30 come in and talk surfboard, custom surfboard and repairs. 7.00 am Polzeath: It looks like a rerun of yesterday with masses of windblown white water tumbling into the bay. I’m afraid that is how it will stay for a least the next 24 hours as the wind is set to stay blowing from the same direction and there will be some nasty showers about as well. Low tide will be at about 12.30 so lots of the sheltered spots will be working later on and you will be able to get a surfing fix if you are prepared to travel, check out Harlyn or the town beaches of Newquay. Come and see us about your new summer board and get that old one fixed, I’ll be in the unit from 9.00 to 12.30 and then from 2.00 to 4.30 call 01208 863962 or email surfescape@gmail.com

Blue sky and onshore, but gonna cut it up rough later 1.2 stars

6.45am Polzeath: Contrary to the forecast this morning sees blue sky and sunshine with a fairly strong onshore breeze but no sign of rain. The sea state is chopped up with white water breaking a good 150 yds from the shore, so the paddle out will be challenging without much of a reward. The tide will drop to be low at midday and the onshore wind will strengthen to gale force and the rain will arrive apparently this afternoon. Lots of the sheltered spots will be working later on so you will be able to get a surfing fix if you are prepared to travel, check out Harlyn or the town beaches of Newquay. The outlook for the next few days is that the wind will ease back a little during the next couple of days but staying onshore so that will wipe out any chance of a clean surf here at Polzeath. Summer has arrived, sunshine small clean swell 2.8 stars

Polzeath 9.45 Just in case we had forgotten what summer could look like, we have one of the best days for a long time. Blue sky, and a small swell groomed by a light offshore wind. Loads of guys already in the water which is now warming up to the extent where you can ditch you hat and gloves.. Low water is about now with high tide this evening at 4.00. The swell will drop today to be pretty small tomorrow with a new onshore front arriving on Wednesday chucking a big swell, wind and some rain at us. Already next weekend is looking interesting. 7.00am Polzeath: Damn it’s horrible this morning! I’m sure the forecast wasn’t for the weather to quite so rubbish today?? Anyhow too wet and misty to get a good photo, so you’ll have to take my word for it. There is a strong onshore wind driving a swell giving some faces of about shoulder high maybe a bit more on the sets, very tight period with a fair amount of white water to paddle through. The wind is going to ease back a few notches during the day and hopefully the sky will clear a bit and give us some sunshine. Tomorrow is still looking good for our Demo Day at New Polzeath so do come over and try something different. I’m going to be in the unit for this morning 9.30 – 12.30 then this afternoon from 2.30 to 4.00 at least but if you want to see me outside of that time give me a call on 01208 863962, or email surfescape@gmail.com

Flat today but there is hope for the weekend

Polzeath 6.15: As we expected the sea is just about flat calm this morning with just a few ripples arriving on the beach which I guess will be okay for the learners on big Swellies but I think most surfers will find a little frustrating. Fear not though guys as there is a big old low scampering across the North of these Isles which will be sending us down some swell for the weekend. It’s all looking quite rosy for the bank holiday with some sunshine, some warmth and as I mentioned some waves. High water today will be at 11.00 ish this morning with low tide this evening at 5.30. Don’t forget that we are open today so come and have a look at our selection of surfboards, demo and board, or get the old one fixed, and order that special custom surfboard. The Advantages of Surfing through the Winter

The main consensus on this winter is that 'It's been a long cold winter' ; for us surfers in Polzeath it's been one of best that some of us can remember for consistent waves and offshore winds. However as far a winters go the numbers of surfers in the sea have been lower than past years. Talking to others it seems that those of us who have been braving the cold have also never enjoyed so many empty sessions as we have of recent times.

The weather forecast for next 10 days it seems to set for more cold weather; So many surfers who normally return to the water at this time of year may be postponing their return but with the swell forecast looking good and offshore winds predicted the rewards for those who do get in should be good. And you never know the sun may just decide to make an appearance at some point.

Here's a short video from a day in February at Polzeath. With only myself and Matt Sutherland out. Who incidentally has spent the whole winter surfing without a cap on !!!
