For some homeowners, pool landscaping involves nothing more than green grass and blossoming flowers in the summer. Others however, may want raised flower beds and dividers built into the driveway and yard to accentuate certain areas of their outdoor living space. Installing trees, shrubs, flowers and retaining walls can be expensive, but with many landscaping DIY stores, the cost of labor can be reduced by doing the work yourself.

Most of the full-service landscaping DIY outlets will have all the materials a do-it-yourselfer needs to make their lawn look as good as they can afford to make it look. They should also have pictures and suggestions on ways to landscape lawns of nearly every size and shape and many offer free services by using landscape computer programs to help customers plan the best appearance possible. While a few of the landscaping DIY stores may be more interested in selling more products than in how your lawn looks, arming yourself with a little knowledge about what you are looking for can keep you within your landscaping budget.

Knowing which flowers to plant and when can help you maintain a full color assortment in all areas of the yard and a landscaping DIY professional should possess the knowledge of how to best accomplish this. Suggestions should always be welcomed by the landscaping DIY homeowner, even those with preconceived notions of how their yard should look.

If You Ask For Advice, Take It

One of the most difficult aspects of a landscaping DIY project is knowing how to achieve the best results. Unless you are a professional landscaper, you might need to ask for advice about installing certain parts of your project. While the advice may have been free when you bought everything, it becomes worthless if you ignore the advice. Many folks that own or work for a landscaping DIY store are knowledgeable about the trade and can offer hints to get the most out of your expense.

No matter how good you think you are, there are those working in a landscaping DIY store that can help you get the most out of your flower patch or how to make sure the tree you planted stays in the ground. Many of the landscaping DIY homeowners, for some reason, are reluctant to ask for advice. Sometimes they get lucky and everything grows according to plan, but in other cases the yard does not appear as planned. Remember, that with any landscaping DIY project, it is going to be a lot of hard work, paid for by the savings of doing it yourself.

In the past, many of us often view our patios as simple slabs of stone and concrete that is attached to the back of the house. However, things have changed and patios are no longer boring places. With a good pool landscaping patio design, you can actually make your patio into one of the most beautiful areas of your home. To get you started in the right direction, here are some points that you need to remember when doing your pool landscaping patio design.

Decide On A Function First

When doing your pool landscaping patio design, you need to think of what purpose your design shall serve. There are times when you can indulge your artistic side, but do not let your imagination run away with you when designing your patio. Remember that your patio should be both functional and beautiful. For instance, if you plan to serve tea for your afternoon visitors in the patio, design your patio according to this purpose.

Choose The Right Stones

You need to consider the types of stones to use when doing your pool landscaping patio design. No, those old and colorless slabs of stones and concrete are no longer in fashion. Forget about using those hideous looking things. There are a number of colored stones that will suit your patio well so do some research in this area.

Find some nice patterns for your stones, too. Nice patterns will give your patio a more vibrant look. If you can afford it, you may also use those traditional marble floorings for your patio. Yes, marble flooring can be quite expensive but if you want something that looks really elegant and last for a long time, marble flooring is your best bet.

Consider The Lighting

You need to include good lighting as part of your pool landscaping patio design. Lighting is not only essential to help you find your way around your patio at night; it can also give your patio a more beautiful look at night. There are many types of patio lightings that you can choose from.

To know more about patio lightings, read some landscaping books and magazines, which can give you a wealth of information. If you do not have time to go out and find some landscaping books and magazines, do your research online. There are a number of online resources that can help you choose the right types of lights for your patio, as well as show you other types of stones.

No matter how much hard work you place into home improvement, the job is not complete without the pool landscaping. Many people are content with the standard grass and trees, maybe some flowers or shrubberies around the house, but many people want so much more than that. They want lighting, flower beds, gravel paths, contoured land, and generally every aspect of the yard to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible. To make your yard beautiful, prepare yourself for some very heavy duty pool landscaping.

Just Like On Television

Recently seen any of those pool landscaping shows on television? They can be absolutely great for ideas about where to start. There is literally so much to do to improve your yard that it can be a daunting task just to figure out where to start! A good suggestion is to develop a budget of how much you are able to spend. Several hundred dollars can go a long way, but a few thousand are almost sure to cover the entire yard.

The next step of pool landscaping is to look at pictures. Several fantastic magazines in print contain some of the most beautiful examples of yards, and television shows help you figure out a way to go about fixing up the yard. As always, the Internet is also a great source of ideas. Because you’re going to be spending hundreds or thousands of dollars, you want to make sure any investment you make is the right one which you’ll be happy with potentially for decades. It wouldn’t make much sense to pour thousands of dollars away only to realize that you’re not happy with the results, would it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGLFmLQOhmo

Get Some Help

So when it comes to getting around to actually landscaping, another good suggestion would be to hire some friends and family, especially if it’s a big project. Placing too much work on your own shoulders will not only take longer, but it will also increase the chance that you’ll get burned out and will leave the project go for later, and we all know what that means. Just because you spent the money to buy tons (literally) of dirt, gravel, and mulch doesn’t mean that you’ll want to move all of that by hand when the time comes. It can be a very daunting task, and one that you shouldn’t tackle on your own. Especially when you’re just setting out on landscaping, the road can seem very long ahead of you.

Your garden consists of the cumulative effect of the plants in it. Hence, if you want a stunning garden you would need to know what type of pool landscaping plants you need to choose for it. Your choice here would be governed by what you ultimately want out of your garden, i.e. simple scenic beauty, beauty and privacy, beauty and utility, and so on. Each one of these aspects would dictate different types of pool landscaping plants.

The Critical Factors That Determine Your Choice Of Pool Landscaping Plants

Amazon.com Widgets

People normally have a garden because they love gardening or because they love the sight and smell of fresh flowers. If this is what you want a garden for, you could choose any perennial flowering plants that would make your garden come alive with a riot of colors. This would help you feel good every time you walk into your garden because it would be so simply stunning with the different sizes and shapes of flowers weaving a most lively and unusual canopy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLDE0sKH614

There are others who look at pool landscaping plants as a means for building a live fence around them – for privacy and territory demarcation at times. For this purpose, you would need to choose one or more types of robust hedge bushes which could stop small animals from filtering into your yard, while at the same it would give you a good deal of privacy.

You could also use the pool landscaping plants for creating a definite and unusual impact in your garden. For example, you could create a stunning bonsai garden with all types of fruit bearing miniature fruit trees plus miniature water bodies and bridges making the whole thing look like something totally out of this world. In this case the landscaping plants would be that type which would respond well to the bonsai method of growing plants.

Lastly, watch out for the unwanted and unplanned events with certain pool landscaping plants, such as vines. Planting a vine starts with the wish to have a live wall in a certain region of the garden – it could be a favorite wall in the garden, or the wall outside your bedroom. However, it might not turn out the way you want it to be unless you are actively watching and guiding its growth. The vine is the fastest growing plant and you absolutely would not realize how fast this plant could grow.

To sum up, when you are about to landscape your garden ensure that you take the right steps and use the right tools and inputs.

Most low voltage lights still require an electric line to run from a transformer somewhere in the home to each light, taking time to dig a trench in the yard in which the line is buried.
Additionally, many of the low voltage systems will show a drop in power after the first few lights, meaning that the ones placed further away from the transformer will be dimmer than the ones closest to the house. With solar landscape lighting all of the lights will be of uniform brightness as they draw their power from the sun and not the transformer.

One of the downsides to using solar pool landscaping lights is they need to have exposure to the sun during the day to charge their small batteries so they can light up in the evening. However, external solar cells can be used for lights installed in shaded areas with the cell placed in the sunlight and a short wire extended to the charger built into the lights.

Who wants to run all those wires?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVzK72KrNY0

Installing solar pool landscaping lights in remote areas of the yard only requires mounting the lights on their poles. Making sure the solar cells face to the south to take advantage of the sunlight eliminates the need to have a contractor install a cable several hundred feet into the yard. Around swimming pools, patios or just to mark a path located away from the home, solar pool landscaping lights can provide the desired illumination in a much shorter time.

Most solar pool landscaping lights are designed to turn on after dark and turn off at sunrise to save the battery power. The solar cells charge the batteries, which operate the lights in the evening. It is like having a flashlight set along the path with rechargeable batteries that are kept at peak charge by the power of the sun.

From a safety standpoint, solar pool landscaping lights have no wires running underground and can save pets and small children from a minor shock if they become too curious about what is in that pole sticking up from the yard. Additionally, the power for charging the batteries comes from the sun and not the electric company, saving money on the electric bill.

Stones are Readily Available

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv39laBy7gc

If you are a new property owner and you’re digging up areas of your lawn as part of your landscape plans, it’s possible you may uncover some interesting rocks. Put them off to the side until you decide how to use the rocks in your pool landscaping plans. The rocks you find may become the focal points of your entire pool landscaping project. But if you’re not lucky enough to find the rocks you need, check out your local garden center or a landscaping supply company. There are even artificial rocks that you can purchase online, and some companies will even engrave them with your family name or a phrase of your choice.

Although rocks are in everyone’s yard, it takes a special touch to place them in an appealing way. Pool landscaping with rocks involves the basic principle of making the rocks look like they belong there. Don’t just scatter them around, decide on interesting locations and place them in those spots. Try contrasting the hardness of a rock with the softness of your flowers, or use stones as edging to walkways or around the flowerbeds.

To make the rocks appear as if they were always part of your landscape, be sure to bury them slightly. Dig a shallow hole, only a few inches or more, depending on the size of the rock. Place the rock in this indentation and push the dirt back around it. They seem to offer their strength and stability to the life of the plants and shrubs around them when you landscape with rocks in this way.

Pool Landscaping with waterfalls…the Ultimate Effect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbTAmdt6P68

There are many factors that you need to check out when you are planning to introduce pool landscaping waterfalls into your garden. What you would need to consider to ensure the best possible results would be:

The locations of the landscape waterfalls or water bodies – you need to find such a location that offers protection from sun during the day time as under the direct sunlight the water body would evaporate fast leaving behind the proof of bad planning. It would also be important that the landscape waterfalls are not near any particular shedding trees because this would have the drain constantly clogged damaging system that promotes the circulation of the water.

What are the roles of the landscape waterfalls – have you thought why do you need the water bodies in your garden? You might put it in because you were advised to do so by feng shui or vastu shastra masters so it would bring prosperity and goodwill for you and all those around you. If this the proposed role, the waterfall would be installed according to the cardinal points – according to feng shui principles a water body placed in the correct direction would bring extreme happiness and prosperity to its owner.

Another proposed role would be to simply add to the aesthetic beauty of the garden. In this case you would need to find such a place which would offer both privacy and scope to be used as a picnic spot by the family members. This is one of the commonest roles for the landscape waterfalls. You could also use the water pool created to enhance the overall visual impact of your garden by adding aquatic plants and even a few exotic fish to it.

What is your budget when you choose to introduce into your garden these landscape waterfalls – this is one of the most important factors of all. In case the plan you are having for your garden exceeds your available cash, try to pay for it in easy installments over a fixed period of time. Alternatively, plan the installation of the landscape waterfalls in phases so you could pay for each step over a given period of time.

You have spent months or years and thousands of dollars into making the perfect outside for your beautiful home. Then, you realize that you work during the day, and when you get home, there’s only an hour or two of daylight left to enjoy all the hard work you’ve put in outside.
Low To No Maintenance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSZ8UZjc0vg

A garden is more than enough work on its own without having to worry about maintaining exterior landscape lighting. What can you do to ensure that you never have to worry about the lighting once you’ve installed it? One of the newest developments in landscaping technology is the invention of the solar powered lighting fixture. Once you install this fixture, it draws all the power that it’ll ever need to run from the sun, and once the sun goes down, these landscaping lights will automatically turn on and run off a battery that has been recharging all day. Not only that, but they are incredibly easy to install. In many cases, all you have to do it plant them in the ground, and they will run automatically with no further activation or installation.

A solar powered landscaping lights saves you money. It doesn’t run off the power grid, so you don’t pay a dime for the electricity that it uses. It’s a great idea for lining pathways and flower beds, and when the power goes out, you don’t have to worry about not being able to see your way to or from the car in the driveway. The light bulbs that they use have also been improved, and now they last many years before needing to be replaced.

Not only that, but solar landscape lighting is environmentally friendly. Solar energy is extremely efficient, and it doesn’t generate any pollution. If you do choose to go the more traditional route, then you will have to dig up the ground to install wiring, and you’ll also have to worry about rodents chewing through the wires.

Ultimately though, landscape lighting is not about money or the environment. It’s about enjoying in the night all the hard work you’ve poured into your yard during the day. Landscaping lights is also a security measure some people use to discourage thieves and other disreputable characters from coming near your home. However, what’s the point of throwing thousands of dollars into a landscaping project if you cannot enjoy it after dark? Enjoy your yard with pool landscaping lights.

You have already started on your pool landscaping project, but unless you invested in some lawn edging you still have some work to do yet. Lawn edging comes in many varieties, including brick, stone, aluminum and plastic. Depending on what look you are trying to achieve will also factor into what type you end up using. However, the basic plastic lawn edging will be sufficient for most jobs.

Why do I need Lawn Edging?

<A HREF=”http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Fstretcroutin-20%2F8001%2F79d663cf-4599-4fe3-8af9-2c997a5afb87&Operation=NoScript”>Amazon.com Widgets</A>

Design software helps you design your project with many other useful tools. With beautiful image previews, you can see how your project will look once completed before you’ve even begun working on it. Some software even comes with a three dimensional view so you can rotate the scene to see it from many different angles.

Perhaps this tool is the most effective at making your landscape project exactly what you want it to be. But who said your pool landscape design software couldn’t show you plants and other life? If you plan to have a fish pond in your yard, it will even show fish swimming. Many come with plant encyclopedias so you can further ensure that your flora choices are perfect for your climate.

Spend your money wisely

Ultimately, you don’t want to be spending tons of money just for landscape design software. You can get this software for as cheaply as twenty dollars, and with a bit of searching around on the Internet, you can find freeware and shareware versions of the software. However, you do get what you pay for, and the most complete design software can run you fifty or sixty dollars, but when you look at their advanced tools and features, you’ll find that it would be money well spent.

If you’re thinking about fixing up the yard, be sure to check out landscape design software. It might help you save money, and you’ll get a great idea of what the project will look like once completed. A plant encyclopedia will make sure that any plants you buy are perfect for your climate, and overall, landscape design software will help your pool landscaping project go as smoothly as possible.
