We’ve had a pool for many years, but we’ve never had a problem with it until this year. The main issue we’re having is that we can’t get a chlorine reading when we test. We’ve been to the pool place a number of times and had our water tested. Everything tested fine except for the chlorine, and we had a high number on our copper. We’ve also had some staining that we’ve been trying to get out. It’s mostly in the low places and at the center of the pool where debris collects from the trees. That probably explains our high copper number. We’ve shocked and shocked and shocked—we double shocked three days last week. Still no reading. What can cause this? Please help. I love my pool and have never spent the money on chemicals that I have this year.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts at pool maintenance, situations arise that are just not that simple to resolve. The high copper readings on your water tests could be from a copper-based algaecide. It’s not necessarily the result of debris from the trees. However, this debris (and the tannin from the leaves) could be lending to [...]<div class="feedflare">
