with a slugging percentage of .571. Not bad for guy who didn't win a starting spot on the team out of spring training. He has come through in some clutch situations over the last couple weeks, but my question is, how long will the show last? Melky consistently shows the star power he is capable of having; however, it never lasts the entire year. Last year, Melky hit 8 homers by the end of May and that is the same number he ended the season with. Let's hope he's found his stroke for good, and he can contribute to the Yankees winning all season.

The guy is a tremendous outfielder... I'll give him that. Once the hitting comes, he'll be the complete package and perhaps remind us one day of the great Bernie Williams.

4/30: Yankees 7 - Angels 4

Carl Pavano: Welcome Back To Yankee Stadium... NOT!

One of my co-workers showed me the picture below a few weeks ago, and I thought I would share it with you. It's no secret that there is a strong resentment against Carl Pavano by Yankees fans. The guy did absolutely nothing for the team in the 4-years he was in the Bronx. He started 34 games (an average of 8 per season), won 9 games (an average of 3 wins per season)... I could go on, but why not just give you a link to check it out for yourself Carl Pavano: 2005-2008 Check the pop-up box on the page when it loads. It displays only his stats as a Yankee.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone that the crowd reacted the way they did when he was introduced at the stadium on Opening Day below, and I think it's great that the stadium closed-captioned the boo's.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_D4QWWqvJVnQ/Sfm8iKfyZ7I/AAAAAAAAAEs/wHTpjDzPLAE/s400/pavano_booed.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330498929088948146" />

Funniest Yankees/Avis Commercial

7-run 4th Inning

In the words of the great Yogi Berra, "it's deja vu all over again." Phil Hughes pitched an absolutely brilliant game for the Yankees after a tumultuous season last year where finished the season with an 0-4 record and a 6.00+ ERA. The Yanks need to have faith in their young guns. He gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, with 6 strikeouts. I am excited to see how his career will unfold in the Bronx. Despite the year last year, fans still love him. Let's hope the incredible start motivates the others to follow in his footsteps.

Tonight, the Yanks end the 3 game series with the Tigers with the hopes of winning the series 2-1. It'll be Joba Chamberlain facing off against the highly touted rookie from West Orange, NJ, Rick Porcello.

A-Rod, A-Rod, A-Rod, Oh, A-Rod

I must've been stupid to believe that the drama surrounding Alex Rodriguez was dwindling down. I find it very ironic that 3 days after meeting with MLB officials to discuss his use of PED's, his relationship with his cousin, and his relationship with the banned-from-MLB-clubhouses trainer Angel Presinal, that he is injured with a cyst on his hip and could possibly be out for 4 months due to the need for surgery. For all I know this could be legitimate, but with the way things have been playing out, there are rumors surfacing that he might actually be suspended for his off-the-field meetings with Angel Presinal.

I used to have a lot of respect for A-Rod, but over the last few weeks, that respect has slowly begun to disappear. If he does play, I will still support him and cheer for him as I am a true fan and believe he can indeed play a very important role in the Yankees winning. He has a lot he needs to prove to the fans, and by being on the DL (if that is indeed the case), he will not be helping out the situation. I do hope he plays, and that the rumor of him being suspended is exactly what I said it is... only a rumor.

Jeter Defends A-Rod

Jeter is doing exactly what the Yankees need their captain to do. The "Steroid Era" has brought upon much drama in the world of the Bronx Bombers as well as all around MLB. With A-rod coming clean, and Miguel Tejada pleading guilty to lying to Congress in regards to taking steroids, I believe the government will get much more involved in trying to clean up the sport. I'll be completely honest, I was at one time strongly against the government getting involved, but as time is going on, and more information is coming out, I believe it won't be so bad in order to bring back the integrity of the game. I mean if Babe Ruth could hit home runs eating hot dogs and drinking beer, why can't today's athletes. On top of that, the field dimensions are shorter and the mound is lower. Granted the season is longer, baseball players, especially the exceptional ones, should have no problem performing without PED's. What are your thoughts? Should the government intervene in preventing players from 'cheating'?

Joba Tosses Bullpen Session

Joba is working hard to rebound after an injury plagued 2008 season. After starting last season in the bullpen, Chamberlain was placed in the Yankee rotation on June 3rd, and finished the season with a 4-3 record with a 2.60 ERA. If he remains healthy, he will play a very vital role as the #5 starter for the Yanks this year. I personally would prefer to see Joba as Mariano Rivera's set-up man. The one-two punch that Chamberlain-Rivera could possibly be, would be very reminiscent of the one-two punch of Rivera-Wetteland in 1996. I would much rather see Hughes as the #5 starter, and Joba in the pen. His stats from 2007 clearly shows that he can be extremely dominating in this role. If it doesn't happen, I still believe Joba will have a successful 2009 campaign if he remains healthy and in the rotation. Thanks everyone.

Memory 1: Opening day 1999. My mom, grandpa, and friend Jim ditched school and went to Opening Day. We witnessed the raising of the 1998 World Series championship flag, and the Yankees eventually went on to win the rain-shortened home opener. The top memory of that game though, was a foul ball off the bat of Bernie Williams that literally hit my grandpa's umbrella. :-) What an awesome game.

Memory 2: Red Sox vs. Yankees, July 1, 2004. Ranked as one of the greatest regular season matches between the two heated rivals. Started as a game you wouldn't think of as going into the history books. Pedro Martinez v. Brad Halsey... to any non-Yankee fan, a no brainer. Red Sox win. Unfortunately, for them, the Yanks won in 13 innings, thanks to John Flaherty's game winning, ground rule double in the bottom of the 13th and the infamous Jeter catch where he flies into the stands. UNBELIEVABLE!

Leave some comments with your favorite memories!!!!

9/21/2008: Last game EVER at Yankee Stadium...

With October rapidly approaching, it is inevitable that this will be the first October in 15 years where the Yankees will not be competing for World Series glory. Today, September 21st, 2008, will be the final day anyone will ever see the Yankees play in the historic ballpark on the corner of 161st Street and River Avenue in the South Bronx. I am very fortunate to say that I have indeed witnessed memorable moments at the stadium that I will never forget. I hope today brings an unforgettable end to my 2nd home. I wish like hell I could be there, but will not doubt be watching the game from start to finish. We'll miss you Yankee Stadium! The YouTube clip below is from the YES Network that provided an inside look at the famous Yankee Stadium tour.

Mike Mussina to win 20 games...?

Let me know what you all think. Chamberlain confirmed that he is ready to be activated into the Yankees' bullpen, a decision that could come in the next few days.

After Sunday's game, Chamberlain will travel with the Yankees to Detroit, and it is possible that he could be activated as soon as Monday, when big league rosters officially expand to 40 players.

"It's kind of frustrating sitting there and seeing these guys battle and claw for nine innings," Chamberlain said. "You just sit there and you know you're not even in the bullpen or out here every five days. It'll be good to be back and in battle with these guys."
