Technique: three layer image assembly from low resolution source image (800 x 547). Apply a line traced vector to an adaptively resized jpeg to create a blended background image and then composite a third layer on top providing accent detail.

Also worth noting this image is a rehash of an older series — http://popartmachine.com/blog/?p=88 — featuring several Porsche images using a strictly raster based technique. That technique has largely been abandoned in favor of the newer vector / raster composites such as the one seen here.

Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese animated television series directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto. It consists of 26 episodes (called “sessions”) produced by Sunrise, and follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop, in the year 2071.

Cowboy Bebop was a commercial success both in Japan and worldwide, notably in the United States. After its commercial success, Sony Pictures released the Cowboy Bebop movie, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door to theaters worldwide and followed up with an international DVD release. Two Cowboy Bebop manga series were adapted based on the anime, as well as two video games, one each for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles.

Cowboy Bebop has been strongly influenced by American music, especially the jazz movements of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and the early rock era of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Many of its action sequences, from space battles to hand-to-hand martial arts combat, are set and timed to music. Hao Ping was born in Yunan, China. In 1980 he graduated from the Department of Fine Art of Yunan Art College. In 1986, he fulfilled studies at Central Fine Art College. In 1990, Hao Ping became a member of the evaluation committee of the National Youth Print grand exhibition. And in 1992 he became jury member of another important print and painting exhibition committee.

The impressiveness of Hao Ping’s print works are underlined by their large sizes - from 60/60 cm (23.4/23.4 inches) to 90/90 cm (35/35 inches). The artist seems to prefer quadratic formats. All prints are limited editions with edition sizes from 30 to 200. They are signed, dated and numbered by the artist and were made in woodcut technique with multiple color blocks and personally printed by the artist on offset paper.
