Hey gang.
So I'm in the process right now, as we speak, this very minute, of transferring to Wordpress...
I like it. It is neater and slightly more challenging so therefore actually giving my brain a bit of a workout.
SO. popthatshit, the wordpress era is going to go live very soon... It has all of the posts that I have written on here, so I will be completely deleting this blog.

It's actually pretty 'neat', I'm adding people who's updates are actually relative to me, apart from Stephen Fry maybe. BUT, Little Boots, Annie Mac, PopJustice amongst others, are regularly updating with their news.

The Great Escape Festival which is a yearly May event in Brighton are (is?) also one of my friends, I'm just debating whether I'm going to get a ticket this year. Designing the new blog isn't exactly going that quickly... You'll have to excuse me. I've been running a pub, more Pat Butcher than Peggy Mitchell, and far less glamorous than you think.

To keep you going whilst I'm away, intrepid fans, a new band for you from LA, Music Go Music. I have slightly fallen in love with their dreamy, Kate Bush sounding vocals and their slightly camp backing tracks.

Norwegian duo Röyksopp, Svein Berge & Torbjørn Brundtland, announce the release of a new album for Spring 2009.

Following their million selling debut ‘Melody A.M’. released in October 2001 and the acclaimed 2005 ‘The Understanding’, Röyksopp will release the new studio album on 23rd March 2009.

As always the Bergen-based band have written, performed, arranged, mixed and produced the new album themselves. The album features vocals from the band as well as guests: Anneli Drecker, Karin Dreijer-Andersson (The Knife), Lykke Li and Robyn.

Titled ‘Junior’, this 11 song album is a remarkable, energetic masterpiece. The first single ‘Happy Up Here’, a joyful romp, will be released on 9th March 2009.

The Jessie Rose Trip hail from our very shores, another brilliant band to come out of Manchester. Fronted by Jessie Rose who has a strangely mesmerising combination of Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse, with as much passion as Adele at her best.

Thank goodness she joined a band as they seem to have drawn her out of hiding and straight into the spotlight. Phew.

The BPA

Brighton Port Authority (or BPA for the cool kids, as I was informed by someone obviously far cooler than me..) are made up of what seem to be Fat Boy Slim's good friends. To name drop - Thomas Gandy AKA CagedBaby, Lateef, Martha Wainwright, Olly Hite, Dizzee Rascal and on their latest single Seattle, Emmy The Great.

Their song Toe Jam was featured on this very blog a while back now, I don't think it received the airplay it deserved but I'm sure that Seattle will, with beautiful vocals from Emmy The Great will be heard a significant amount more.

It's sometimes (more often that not) a complete disaster when members of a band go on to have a solo career. However, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip has squashed this theory of awful side solo projects with a brilliant cover of Paul McCartney's song Coming Up.

Cliqu club in Manchester is something that i'm dying to go to. It's been going for almost 3 years and packs 600 trendy young things into the club every month.

They did a nice little mix over the summer that you can get the tracklisting right here. It includes Santogold, CSS, Interpol, trailmix, Soft Cell, muscles and The Shoes. It's just over an hour long and is perfect for loading onto your iPod and wondering around town/sitting in a park/on a train/you choose.

In 2006, Dance Nova asked you to imagine Blondie jamming with Can, New Order and The Sugarcubes, The Cocteau Twins and Slowdive adding the sonics, with Daft Punk and Quincy Jones at the controls of Paisley Park's mixing desk with the result sounding everything and nothing like Cicada.

Mixmag have got it spot on in November's issue, with their front cover highlighting some of the music scene's biggest new(ish) talents:

Little Boots, Surkin, Goldielocks, Friendly Fires and The Martinez Brothers. It almost seems to be missing someone.. FrankMusik maybe?

So from the end of this month there are some pretty amazing acts confirmed for Brighton, the 30th October brings Neon Neon and Yo Majesty to Digital which somehow we have blagged some free tickets for.. VERY exciting.

On the 31st October, New Hero presents Surkin at their Halloween special at Somewhere in the Universe. The last thing I saw at this club night was Little Boots a couple of months ago on her first ever live show. It was rubbish for live music, she was great but the place is not good for any sort of live shows. So Surkin should be pretty fucking immense in this sweaty little club built for DJ's.

THEN. Which is going to make my absolute year, Annie Mac presents at Digital on the 20th November with Little Boots... AND FAKE BLOOD. Yes, Fake Blood. How GOOD! We are currently trying to work out (like everyone in the world) who this is and how he/she/they are going to DJ and remain hidden.

Woodpigeon are described by the Guardian today as "Canada's best-kept secret … the most unjustly overlooked band in Canada" which I completely agree with. Their melodic and instrumental Indie music can easily be compared to Belle and Sebastian or Arcade Fire with a huge group of people playing a huge amount of instruments to create some lovely music.
They recently played at End Of the Road festival near my parents home in Dorset in possibly the most amazing setting for a folk/indie festival that you can imagine, check that out here and book your tickets for next year if you're into that kind of genre. I highly recommend it.
