Star Trek: The Next Generation® – A Celebration of Season 2

On Wednesday, November 29th, NCM Fathom Events and CBS Home Entertainment hosted another theatrical presentation of two newly restored episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Similar to the Season One event in July promoting that season’s Blu-Ray release, this event coincides with the Blu-Ray release of Season Two on December 4th.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is, of course, the second live-action Star Trek series which premiered in 1987. (There have since been a total of five.) It’s set around 80 years in the future from Captain Kirk’s era and follows the adventures of a whole new crew aboard a much larger Enterprise – NCC-1701-D. Originally offered in syndication, this new series outlasted the original series’ 3 year, 79 episode run. The Next Generation ran for 7 years with 178 episodes plus 4 feature films.

The Stars Of 'Firefly' Discuss The Shows 10th Anniversary

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Firefly. A science fiction series created by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) that aired on FOX for one season. By now, fans of the show know the turmoil that happened while it was on the air. From airing episodes out of order, to moving the days that it was on, these were all things that would have killed a show from the conciousness of TV fans. After Firefly was cancelled after one season, fans did everything they could to soak it all in.

From VHS copies shared and sold at conventions, to the DVD set becoming one of the most collected, it wasn't long before someone took notice. Universal Studios then stepped up and decided they wanted to take the failed TV series and turn it into a movie, with the hope that it would become a new franchise. Serenity came, and then quietly faded out. Many believing it could be the last time we would hear anything about the Firefly franchise.

Trailer Premiere For 'World War Z' Starring Brad Pitt

Let me preface this with saying that I have yet to read Max Brooks' novel, so I only have this trailer to go on right now. From what the trailer for World War Z shows, this zombies are superhero fast, and they seem to work together. UPDATED: Disney Purchases Lucasfilm For $4 Billion Dollars, New 'Star Wars' Movie Slated For 2015

The force is strong with this one.

Out of the blue today it was announced that The Walt Disney Company was purchasing Lucasfilm, Ltd for $4.05 billion dollars. (Whhaaaaaat?) You read that right. Mickey Mouse now owns the Skywalkers. Along with this news came the announcement that a new Star Wars movie - currently called Episode 7 - will be released in 2015, Episodes 8 and 9 to follow.

G4 Cancels Fan Favorites 'Attack of the Show' And 'X-Play'

Earlier this year Comcast/NBCUniversal announced that G4 TV would be getting rebranded to appeal to a much more different audience. More of a GQ meets Wired Magazine is how we heard it described by a former G4 host this past summer.

When this announcement was made, many wondered how Attack of the Show and X-Play would fit into the new programming idea. Today we found out that they don't.

G4 has announced that AOTS and X-Play will have their last shows in December of this year. Take the jump to read their statement.

Telltale Games has been making zombie gamers go nuts with the release of the new episodes of The Walking Dead. There are also those that don't want to wait for new episodes to be released in between game playing, so they're waiting for the retail version. (I'm one of them.) Felix Baumgartner Breaks Records With Red Bull Stratos Space Jump

Today, millions of people around the world were glued to their TV screens and computers as Felix Baumgartner became the most bad-ass person in the world! Baumgartner jumped from a capsule 128,100 feet above the earth and we watched the entire thing play out as it happened. (Many of you watched here on POParitaville.) The drama that unfolded in front of us was something that this generation has never experienced before, and it was f'n intense.

Prior to the jump happening, there tension got really high when it looked like a problem with his visor's heater could cause them to abort the mission. It was decided by the mission team that they would still be able to do the jump. He made was way outside the capsule and said, "The whole world is watching. I wish you could see what I can see. Sometimes you have to get up really high to see how small you are. I'm going home now." With that, he gave a salute to the planet and jumped.

Full Trailer For 'Zero Dark Thirty' Shows The Tension Behind The Hunt For Bin Laden

Today we get the first full trailer of Oscar Winner Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty. Zero Dark Thirty gives us a look at the hunt for Bin Laden, the decision to send in Seal Team 6 and the eventual raid that took him out. In some circumstances this could have just turned into a simple war movie. Watching this trailer we get to see that it is something more. While we know the outcome of the story, the drama behind the biggest manhunt in history is what looks to make this movie an Oscar contender.

NBC Will Air 'Mockingbird Lane' Pilot As Halloween Special

We've been looking forward to checking out Bryan Fuller's adaptation of The Munsters, Mockingbird Lane, for a while now. It was then rumored that NBC was not going to pick up the series and the pilot would be shelved. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fuller and pilot director Bryan Singer had differing opinions on the style of the show. This, allegedly, is what led to NBC being disappointed with the pilot and passing on it.

NBC Delays 'Community' Premiere

Just as Community fans (us included) were getting ready for the approaching season premiere, NBC decided to pull the show from the schedule. According to HitFix.com, NBC pulled Community - along with Whitney - from their premiere dates in order concentrate on the shows currently airing.

It looks like the delay could be happening so that either Community or Whitney can replace shows that may be cancelled soon (looking at you Animal Practice). One of these shows could also be used to plug the 30 Rock slot when the show ends its final season.

UPDATE II:
The Stratos Jump is currently on track for tomorrow morning at 5:00 AM PST. (UPDATE: Weather is delaying the launch again. They're looking at closer to 8:00AM PST.) We'll keep you posted of any changes that may happen.

UPDATE I:
Today's jump was cancelled due to high winds. After delaying the initial launch, everything seemed to line up. Winds then began gusting as they were filling the balloon up and it was decided to cancel the launch/jump once the balloon touched the ground. They were also plagued with radio problems that led to delays as well.

Once a new day and time for the jump have been scheduled, you'll still be able to watch it here. We'll keep you updated.

Early this morning (9:00 AM EST) - when many of us are still asleep and others are starting their day - Felix Baumgartner will be the first human to jump from the edge of space. That's 120,000 feet/23 miles above the earth. From that altitude he will reach supersonic speeds and could be the first human to break the sound barrier with his body!

The Lone Ranger has been on Disney's slate since Johnny Depp appeared at a Walt Disney Company meeting as Jack Sparrow with a feather in his hair. Since then, people wondered when the movie would finally begin shooting.

Production finally began earlier this year and is still underway.

Seth MacFarlane To Host 85th Academy Awards

It's official. The 85th Academy Awards will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane. This is a move on the Academy's part to, once again, try to bring in younger viewers.

This looks to be the right person to do it.

For those that do not know, Seth MacFarlane created (and voices) several of the characters on Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show. He also directed this year's hit comedy, TED.

Along with those credits, he also hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago to some great reviews. That performance probably helped seal the deal for Seth.

Earlier this year, AMC was dropped by DISH during very public contract negotiations. This meant that fans of Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Hell On Wheels were out of luck. They would have to resort to other means to watch their favorite shows. With the third season premiere of The Walking Dead coming up, many of them are frustrated again. AMC wants to help those fans.

While there may be some kids who really believe that Abraham Lincoln hunted vampires, there are many that may not fully understand how important of a person he was. Steven Spielberg has stepped up to the plate to tell that story with Lincoln, giving us an epic biography that we've not seen for the man yet.

Lincoln has been in the works for several years, and originally had Liam Neeson attached in the title role. Cameras finally began rolling on the movie last year and today we get the first trailer. After watching it we can say that it has Oscar bait written all over it.
