In twenty nine days sharp, the Vineeth Sreenivasan film ‘Thattathin Marayathu’ has crossed the ten crore mark, grossing approximately 10.15 crores. The film might even be

considered the biggest hit of the year, and Vineeth and team has every reason to be glad.

Anwar Rasheed’s ‘Ustad Hotel’ is right behind, and has grossed 8.4 crores from thirty six days. The film has managed to rake in the moolah despite ‘Thattathin Marayathu’ and its super success. There have only been two film that crossed the ten crore mark this year – ‘Mayamohini’ and ‘Ordinary’.

Meanwhile, the Shaji Kailas film ‘Simhasanam’ has taken a poor opening at the box office, and the mixed reviews and somewhat negative word of mouth might hamper the chances of the film being a winner, even further. With Onam releases arriving with a bang next week, ‘Simhasanam’ stands to face some tough competition as well.

മികച്ച സിനിമ ഉറുമി, നടന്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാല്

കൊച്ചി: ജേസി ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ ഒന്‍പതാമത് സിനിമ-ടിവി സീരിയല്‍ അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ഉറുമിയാണ് മികച്ച ചിത്രം. മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ (പ്രണയം) മികച്ച നടനും ഭാവന (ഡോക്ടര്‍ ലൗ) നടിയുമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 'അറബിയും ഒട്ടകവും പി. മാധവന്‍ നായരും' ഒരുക്കിയ പ്രിയദര്‍ശനാണ് മികച്ച സംവിധായകന്‍.

സോള്‍ട്ട് ആന്‍ഡ് പെപ്പറിലെ അഭിനയത്തിന് വിജയരാഘവന്‍ മികച്ച സഹ നടനായി. 'വെള്ളരിപ്രാവിന്റെ ചങ്ങാതി' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ അഭിനയത്തിന് സീനത്തിനെ സഹ നടിയായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. രാജീവ് പിള്ള (സിറ്റി ഓഫ് ഗോഡ്) പുതുമുഖ നടനും നമിത പ്രമോദ് (ട്രാഫിക്) മികച്ച പുതുമുഖ നടിയുമായി.

'ചാപ്പാ കുരിശി'ലൂടെ സമീര്‍ താഹര്‍ മികച്ച പുതുമുഖ സംവിധായകനുള്ള പുരസ്‌കാരം സ്വന്തമാക്കി. സോള്‍ട്ട് ആന്‍ഡ് പെപ്പര്‍ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ ശ്യാം പുഷ്‌കരനും ദിലീഷ് നായരും മികച്ച തിരക്കഥയ്ക്കുളള പുരസ്‌കാരം നേടി. സോനാ നായര്‍ (നാടകമേ ഉലകം), മല്ലിക (ഇന്ത്യന്‍ റുപ്പി), അനൂപ് മേനോന്‍ (ബ്യൂട്ടിഫുള്‍), ജയസൂര്യ (ശങ്കരനും മോഹനനും), കുഞ്ചന്‍ (ഇന്നാണാ കല്യാണം) എന്നിവര്‍ക്ക് പ്രത്യേക ജൂറി പുരസ്‌കാരം ലഭിച്ചു.

ചാപ്പാ കുരിശിലൂടെ ഫഹദ് ഫാസിലും രമ്യ നമ്പീശനും മികച്ച താരജോടികളായി. 'പയ്യന്‍സി'ലെ ഗാനങ്ങള്‍ ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയ അല്‍ഫോണ്‍സ് സംഗീത സംവിധായകനുള്ള പുരസ്‌കാരത്തിന് അര്‍ഹനായി. മുരുകന്‍ കാട്ടാക്കടയാണ് (രതിനിര്‍വേദം എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ ചെമ്പകപ്പൂങ്കാവിലെ ) മികച്ച ഗാനരചയിതാവ്, ഈ ഗാനം ആലപിച്ച സുധീപ് കുമാര്‍ മികച്ച ഗായകന്‍, രശ്മി സതീശ് (ഉറുമി എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ അപ്പാ നമ്മടെ) മികച്ച ഗായികയുമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ബാലനടിയായി ബേബി അനഘ (റേസ്), ബാലനടന്‍ മാസ്റ്റര്‍ സിദ്ധാര്‍ ത്ഥ ് (ഓര്‍മ്മ മാത്രം) എന്നിവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.

ബൈജു പി. സെന്‍ (ചിത്രഭൂമി), ബീന രഞ്ജിനി (വെള്ളിനക്ഷത്രം) എന്നിവര്‍ക്ക് മികച്ച സിനിമ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടര്‍മാര്‍ക്കുള്ള അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ ലഭിച്ചു. വിവിധ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൂടെ ഷാജി പട്ടിക്കര മികച്ച നിര്‍മാണ കാര്യദര്‍ശിക്കുള്ള പുരസ്‌കാരം നേടി.

ബൈജു ദേവരാജ് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത 'അമ്മക്കിളി'യാണ് (ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ്) മികച്ച സീരിയല്‍. ശ്രീകുമാരന്‍ തമ്പി(സൂര്യ-പാട്ടുകളുടെ പാട്ട്) മികച്ച സീരിയല്‍ സംവിധായകനുളള പുരസ്‌കാരം സ്വന്തമാക്കി. ജി.കെ. പിള്ള (കുങ്കുമപ്പൂവ്-ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ്) മികച്ച സീരിയല്‍ നടനായും ദേവിക നമ്പ്യാര്‍ (പരിണയം-മഴവില്‍ മനോരമ) മികച്ച നടിയായും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ജോണ്‍ ബ്രിട്ടാസ് (ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ്) മികച്ച അവതാരകനും വീണ ജോര്‍ജ് (ഇന്ത്യാ വിഷന്‍) മികച്ച അവതാരകയുമായി. 'മലയാളം' വാരികയില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച മോഹനചന്ദ്രന്റെ അരയാല്‍ അഥവ ശൂര്‍പ്പണഖ മികച്ച നോവലും സിനിമാ മംഗളത്തില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച കലൂര്‍ ഡെന്നിസിന്റെ സെക്കന്‍ഡ് സാറ്റര്‍ഡേ മികച്ച ചെറുകഥയുമായി തിരഞ്ഞെക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

ഉസ്താദ് ഹോട്ടലിന്റെ വിജയത്തിന് പിന്നാലെ ദുല്‍ഖര്‍ സല്‍മാന്‍ നായകനാകുന്ന പുതിയ ചിത്രം കൊച്ചിയില്‍ തുടങ്ങി. സസ്‌പെന്‍സ് ത്രില്ലര്‍ സ്വഭാവമുള്ള സിനിമയ്ക്ക് 'തീവ്രം' എന്നാണ് പേര്. നവാഗതനായ രൂപേഷ് പീതാംബരന്‍ രചനയും സംവിധാനവും നിര്‍വഹിക്കുന്ന തീവ്രത്തില്‍ ശ്രീനിവാസനും പ്രധാന വേഷം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഇല്ലെന്ന്‌ താരം തീരുമാനം എടുത്തതായിട്ടാണ്‌ മല്ലൂ പാപ്പരാസികളുടെ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്‌.

കടിച്ചാല്‍ പെട്ടാത്ത മലയാളം തന്റെ നാവിന്‌ വഴങ്ങില്ലെന്ന പേടി കൊണ്ടാണത്രെ വീണ്ടുമൊരു മലയാള ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാകാന്‍ ഇഷ മടിക്കുന്നത്‌. കലവൂര്‍ രവി കുമാറിന്റെ തിരക്കഥയില്‍ ഒരുങ്ങുന്ന ഷാഫിയുടെ '101 വെഡ്‌ഡിംഗ്‌' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ നായികയാകാന്‍ ഇഷയ്‌ക്ക് ക്ഷണം ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ മലയാളപ്പേടി കാരണം ഇഷ ക്ഷണം സ്‌നേഹപൂര്‍വ്വം നിരസിച്ചുവെന്നാണ്‌ കേള്‍ക്കുന്നത്‌. കുഞ്ചാക്കോ ബോബന്‍, ജയസൂര്യ, ബിജു മേനോന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ നായകന്മാരാകുന്ന 101 വെഡ്‌ഡിംഗില്‍ സംവൃതയും ഭാമയുമാണ്‌ നായികമാര്‍.

അങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചാല്‍ 'തട്ടത്തിന്‍ മറയത്ത്‌' ഇഷയുടെ ഒരേയൊരു മലയാള ചിത്രമാകും. മുംബൈക്കാരിയായ ഇഷയുടെ കരിയറിലെ ആദ്യ സിനിമയാണ്‌ 'തട്ടത്തിന്‍ മറയത്ത്‌'. 'തട്ടത്തിന്‍ മറയത്തി'ലെ ഇഷ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച ആയിഷ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം വളരെ കുറച്ചു സംഭാഷണങ്ങളെ ഉരുവിടുന്നുള്ളൂ. അതുകൊണ്ടു മാത്രമാണ്‌ അധികം പരിക്കേല്‍ക്കാതെ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്‌. പ്രമുഖ ഹിന്ദി നടനായ വിനോദ്‌ തല്‍വാറിന്റെ മകളാണ്‌ ഇഷ. മുംബൈയിലെ പ്രമുഖ മോഡലായ ഇഷ 2010 ല്‍ രിശ്‌തേ എന്നൊരു ഹിന്ദി സീരിയലിലഭിനയിച്ചിരുന്നു.

By 15 July 2003, the deadline for interested cities to submit bids to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), nine cities had submitted bids to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. These cities were Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, London, Madrid, Moscow, New York City, Paris and Rio de Janeiro.[14]

Since the United Kingdom hosted the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, three bids had been made for a British city to host the Summer Olympics – Birmingham for the 1992 Games and Manchester for the 1996 and 2000 Games. Preliminary planning for a possible London bid for the 2012 Olympics began in 1997.[15] The United Kingdom had successfully hosted the 1996 UEFA European Football Championships and the 2002 Commonwealth Games which regenerated a large part of east Manchester - both events satisfied the IOC that the United Kingdom as a whole could host large sporting events and generated impetus for the country to have a Golden Decade of sport.[16]

Then-Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said his primary motivation for initiating and lobbying for the city's bid was to develop the East End of London, neglected for over thirty years.[17] On 18 May 2004, the IOC, as a result of a scored technical evaluation, reduced the number of cities to five: London, Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris.[18]

All five cities submitted their candidate files by 19 November 2004, and were visited by the IOC inspection team during February and March 2005. The Paris bid suffered two setbacks during the IOC inspection visit: a number of strikes and demonstrations coinciding with the visits, and a report that one of the key members of the Paris bid team would face charges over alleged corrupt party political finances.[19]

On 6 June 2005, the IOC released its evaluation reports for the five candidate cities. Although these reports did not contain any scores or rankings, the evaluation report for Paris was considered the most positive, followed closely by London, which had narrowed most of the gap observed by the initial evaluation in 2004 regarding Paris. New York and Madrid also received very positive evaluation reports.[20]

Throughout the process, Paris was widely seen as the favourite to win the nomination, particularly as this was its third bid in recent history. Originally London was seen as lagging Paris by a considerable margin; however, the situation began to improve with the appointment of Lord Coe as new head of London 2012 on 19 May 2004.[21]

In late August 2004, reports predicted a London and Paris tie in the 2012 bid.[22] In the final run-up to the 117th IOC Session, London and Paris appeared to be increasingly in a neck-and-neck race. On 1 July 2005, Jacques Rogge, when asked who the winner would be, told the assembled press: "I cannot predict it since I don't know how the IOC members will vote. But my gut feeling tells me that it will be very close. Perhaps it will come down to a difference of say ten votes, or maybe less".[23]

On 6 July 2005, the final selection was announced at the 117th IOC Session in Singapore. Moscow was the first city to be eliminated, followed by New York and Madrid. The final two cities left in contention were London and Paris. At the end of the fourth round of voting, London won the right to host the 2012 Games with 54 votes, defeating Paris's 50.[24] The celebrations in London were short-lived, being overshadowed by bombings on London's transport system less than 24 hours after the announcement.

Chengalloor Ranganathan has entered into many historical events in the erstwhile Travancore Cochin state. He has vacated his undisputed presence as the holder the Main Thidambu (Idol of God) for over nine years from
the year 1906 during the Arattupuzha (Thrissur) Festival and continued till he was wounded in the year 1914 in the same Arattupuzha festival as a coincidence. Ranganathan was the tallest Asian Elephant till date with a height of 11.5 feet which gives him the coveted Title “One and Only Ranganathan”. He could held his muscular trunk with a height of high esteem than any fellow elephants when he carry the Thidambu due to his height advantage. The century old skeleton of the Elephant, which is the only Elephant Skeleton (even with minute bones) in the World, is exhibited in the Thrissur Museum in the Main Entrance hall. Ranganathan had the credit of Carrying the Thidambu in almost all big festivals in Kerala some 100 years back.Ranganathan was previously owned by Sri Ranganatha Vishnu Temple in Sreerangam 10 KM away from historic Rock Fort City Thiruchirappilly in Tamilnadu. The Temple has 21 Gopurams, largest temple in India and one of the largest religious temple complexes in the world spead over 156 Acres of area. The duty entrusted to Ranganathan was to bring water for the temple needs including Abhisekham in big vessels which is tied in two sides of his body. Rice and dry palm leaves are his only food. He could not enter into the Mighty Gopurams of the temple due to the height he attained during the course of time. He has become a liability for the temple authorities since there was hardly any income on account of him from festivals as it was not a custom to use Elephants in temple festivals in Tamilnadu. His condition has become miserable day by day due to the wounds he has received while forcibly entering the Gopurams and he has become very ill and become thin coupled with tired eyes. The temple authorities gave an Advertisement in Hindu newspaper and seen by this Chengalloor Parameswaran Namboodiri went there and purchased the Elephant in 1905 for Rs.1500.

After reaching Chengalloormana at Anthikad, Thriisur district he was looked after very well by giving protein food like rice with gingly oil with ginger and salt. Palm leaves, Chavanaprasam and other ayurvedic medicines was given daily alongwith the Prasadam from Anthikad Bhagavathy temple and Prasadam from Ganapahi homam held at Illam. He has become a mighty and good looking Komban within few months.He has entered the festival scene of Kerala by overtaking Poomulli Sekharan and held the Thidambu of Thiruvambadi side for the Thrissur Pooram. He was tall as well has good temple manners and was never did any problems to anyone duringhis lifetime. Many reputed poets including Mahakavi Vallathol has described him beautifully in the collection of poems titled ”chengallorana”, a collection of poems by eminent poets in Malayalam.

During the Arattupuzha Pooram in 1914 he was standing tall with the Thidambu of Sasthavu. Suddenly he was attacked by Akavoor Govindan(Paliam Govindan), fellow elephant in the Pooram and fell to the ground. He was taken back to the Illam and was given several treatments for nearly three years and finally he succumbed to death in 1917 to the utter sorrow of thousands of elephant fans in Kerala. Foremost expert in Hastyaayurvedam Maheswaran Namboodiripad of Avanaprambu Mana remembers that his father’s younger brother, Avananparambu Krishnan Namboodiripad later became the Udumalpet District Judge has witnessed this gruesome and tearful incident at the age of 16. No body survives now who has seen Ranganathan who died 94 years ago. Late Chengalloor Parameswaran Namboodiri who was born in 1905 reported that he had vivid memories about Ranganathan during his childhood days. British Curators at the Madras Museum after getting news about the illness wanted to preserve the skeleton of this mighty elephant at their London Museum. They arrived at Anthikad and requested Parameswaran Namboodiri to donate the skeleton and he readily agreed and promised all assistance. Curators also requested him to inform as soon as the demise occurs. On getting information about the sad demise they arrived and gave directions to make a large pit and buried the elephant after applying some decaying material. They said they will be back after a period six months. Later they came and opened the pit and by that time the entire flesh was dissolved in the sand by keeping the bones intact. They have given numbers to each bones for reassembly. Meanwhile Thrissur museum officials requested their counterpart at Chennai to donate the skeleton for keeping at Thrissur Museum and rest is history.
